I love the art and animations. For a simple mechanic it really does feel polished! Nicely done!

stupidpawn 2017-05-05 11:19

First of all I really like the art style and the music is nice. But it wasn't clear to me what I was supposed to do. I started the game at first and I tried different keys and the mouse but nothing happened. Then I started the game a second time to check if I had skipped a tutorial by accident but that wasn't the case either. After that I went online to find a video. I discovered I had to wait. This could have been easily avoided if there was just a small tutorial at the beginning saying what I should do. The mechanic wasn't hugely complicated, this doesn't have to be bad of course but the game didn't hold my attention for long. Still, I think this is a well made game with some small flaws. Well done!

bunnery 2017-05-05 11:25

I LOVE this game! It's so funny and random and the music gives it a really cool vibe. I liked the varied characters and the naughty things they did (poor cat!) :-) I'd keep playing again and again! Very well done!

thirsty 2017-05-05 11:25

Nice simple concept and well executed.

lebull 2017-05-05 23:15

This game made me loose hope in humanity. The world was perfect at the start of every single level. But some *** had to go and screw things up. WHY ALEX, WHY DID YOU KNOCK THE VASE OVER? JUST LET THE CAT SLEEP IN PEACE.

I'm seriously impressed at this game, and I honestly have trouble finding critiques of it. One of the parts I found especially neat was exactly how diversity is used as a game mechanic. I though the difficulty was incredibly well tuned, and it's very hard to make a point and click program feel clunky... ok, excepting all of those Point of Sales programs, but still... I'm glad I was able to find this through the random link.

See you next year, and I hope this game goes far.

smiling-cat-entertainment 2017-05-07 18:03

I'm not sure if it was intentional or dumb luck, but I kept getting near-twins trying to frame eachother, which was pretty funny. "No, Clyde, you were the one wearing blue shorts when you poked the cat. Your doppleganger Frank was wearing black pants."

Overall, good job. The graphics were well-drawn, and the music selection complemented everything nicely.

rixud 2017-05-07 18:29

jajaja the game was funny and has a good mood! maybe one of the more polished games that i play today, nice music and cool random generated people... really don't much fun playing, to much time waiting just for 1 click of play but definitely a nice and polished entry! nice job!

davidthelazar 2017-05-08 13:18

This was fun. While playing, I was thinking the first couple levels felt too easy, and I was coming up with a list of complaints/suggestions... then all of a sudden I realize I'm darting my eyes around the level from vase to cat to cat to vase to door to vase to door in a panic. The progression is great, where the same mechanic goes from trivial to overwhelming just by scaling it up.

Just out of curiosity: I had one level where I swear two of the people were exactly the same, and one of these two were the culprit. Was I wrong, and everyone is guaranteed to be different? If they can be the same, was I just lucky that I picked the right one of the two or would they both have counted as correct?

IF nothing stops people from being identical but the game still counts them as separate people, then that would be my only complaint.

Well done, unique and polished game. (A high score table might have been cool for this too! Mine is 3594)

blaster391 2017-05-08 15:20

A very polished entry, I like it! The transitions between the world and the picking people menu is very slick. I like how the difficulty ramps up. With curveballs like people who are identical except with different shoes.

(Maybe this happens at later levels and I wasn't good enough) But maybe a neat extension of this would be have multiple things happen in one level (e.g both a vase is smashed and a cat spooked) and you have to remember who did both, it would certainly add to the difficulty.

danman9914 2017-05-10 05:46

Great art, great animations, great polish. The experience is very smooth all the way through. Nice transitions! I was curious how the game was going to get more difficult but spotting and remembering minute differences did become challenging. The pacing could have been a bit faster.

digitaldude555 2017-05-12 13:55

Art was good, music was good and pleasent to listen to. Gameplay I think was executed perfectly. The difficulty ramp was very gradual, and the fake outs when they jumped or raised their hands was a nice touch. Most importantly it was fun to play. I lost when there was 14 people on the planet. score was 4400 something.

rabbittortoise 2017-05-12 14:03

Well polished game. Transition to people picking was great, I liked the effect to the music. At the start it felt slow but the difficulty ramps up fast after certain point. Graphics were pretty good, the choice of music was good. At the start there should be a little tutorial window or something to tell what to do. The only complaint I have is that once there were two people in front of a vase and the one that was rendered behind the other broke the vase. So I had no idea what he/she looked like. Muutoin, hyvää työtä.

veralos 2017-05-12 15:01

Really nice game! It seems simple at first but quickly gets quite challenging. It's pretty fun trying to keep your eye on all the different objects at once. The graphics are cute and the music/sounds were well chosen. All these things add up to give the game a really charming and fun feel. My score was 4388.

bomb-x 2017-05-12 22:37

Well this is a really funny game ! I was so surprised by the simplicity of the concept at first, and how you managed to make it very interresting by feedbacks, sound effects or animations. I surprised myself giving little nicknames to the characters like Mustachio, or Ethnic minority (sorry couldn't help it) in order to remember better who did the "crime" ! The art is very nice and the music is super relaxing ! Great jobs guys !

gulyasarni66 2017-05-13 08:54

Strange but interesting concept! I like the AI too, and after 3 minutes of playing, the game quickly transformed into 'Don't blink: the game' :) Well done!

garethiw 2017-05-13 12:51

This was really fun. Full marks for presentation - the screen wipes, confetti particles, little incidental animations all make for a high level of polish!

I managed to get up to door tagging, and it got real hard with 10 possible culprits and 3 possible items.

Well done!

ptsnoop 2017-05-13 13:01

The music and artwork really help tie together the mood for this one. (Should there be a rating for Audio for this game? I feel like there probably should...)

jungle 2017-05-13 16:52

Very nice entry. In the first turn I was confused what to do, but a few seconds later I understood the game mechanics. I think that a simple text can be placed in the first turn to advise players, something like "watch carefully pleople behavior". I was able to score about 2800 points, the dificulty curve is very nice. It seems too dificult when many people are in the same spot. It is a funny game, I like it! Congratulations

nathan 2017-05-14 15:11

Hard to say anything bad about this entry, because there is literally nothing wrong with it - it has a simple premise and executes it incredibly well. The further you get, the more subtle the difference between the potential culprits get and the addition of more people and items, which adds a nice little curve. The music and sounds suit perfectly and the whole game was easy and fun to play!

Great job!

terryg 2017-05-14 15:34

It's a simple But challenging game. though I would like to see the point system fleshed out and the game to let you retry a level you failed

juju-adams 2017-05-14 16:23

Difficulty curve is a liiittle bit gentle, but the rad music makes the time fly by. Lovely aesthetic too, and graphically well executed. Though the idea of a singular omnipotent moral executor is ethically troubling...

ididgame 2017-05-15 19:54

Really neat entry, super pleasant to play. Extra thumbs up for dimming the music in decision time, thought that was a really nice touch.

Got to 3753

neontropics 2017-05-16 08:55

Charming little game, it was fun to play something were your ability to focus was the important thing. After a while it did feel a bit random if I managed to see the culprit or not when there are many people in the same area.

gurkenlabs 2017-05-16 12:18

Once more, justice has been brought to the world. Vases and Cats are avenged. Very nice game with lovely art and polished mechanics. In my opinion, the text screens were displayed a little too long, but overall, the game was really fun.

somnium 2017-05-16 14:10

A fun observational puzzle game!

The art is quite nice, especially the animations, that work quite well in causing a distraction.

The difficulty progression was very satisfying, as the number of intersections, people and distinct characteristics increase steadily. And all it takes to fail, is a single mistake in observation...

>Who is the culprit?! >Through observation powers, >point out the guilty!

hellodangochan 2017-05-16 17:36

The art was really cute! I liked that there was more animations than only a walk cycle. It could be a fun idea to have a game mechanic, that when there are more things that can be broken, you have to guess in the right order.

Thank you all for the really nice and wonderful feedback! I had blast making this game. I’m really happy you all liked the art and animations. I just wished I had more time make even more diversity in characters (some lower body option are too similar at moment).

As many of you have pointed out the need of some kind of tutorial or instruction in beginning. I guess the gameplay is so clear for me, it didn’t even cross my mind to add one.

Also due to randomness of this game there are cases where characters bunch up in front of “the incident” and pointing out right person becomes unfairly hard. Same random nature causes the slow build up before something happens. In worst case scenario the characters could just idle/jump/wave in place forever. Definitely something I would fix if I’m going work on this.

@stupidpawn Thank you for giving my game some much time and effort!

@davidthelazar There is a mechanic preventing identical characters. Game creates characters by randomizing their gender and skin tone and then picks randomly head, upper body and lower body from library for that gender/skin tone. After that they are given a “name” which is something like gender + skin color + head graphic name + upper body name + lower body name. That name is then compared to existing characters, if that one already exists process is repeated.

@ptsnoop I opt-out from audio category because music wasn’t by me (it’s royalty free piece from site mentioned in description) and I didn’t make any of the sound effects, just did minimal editing (like combining sounds and cropping).

@juju-adams Now that you mention it, it looks bit like you are sniping people out of rows. Makes it so much more grim.

@gurkenlabs My idea was to make transitions last bit too long so that your memory would start to fade. Makes choosing the right person bit harder.

ketchupcoke 2017-05-16 19:52

Really interesting guess-who type game - my highscore is currently 2441 but I'm sure I can go high (is there a limit to the no. people?). Love the graphics, they really fit the theme as well as the music. Overall, great entry and I'll definitely be keeping this on my desktop!

rodrigo-denubila 2017-05-17 04:34

It's an interesting concept, I liked a lot. The graphics are great and it was a excellent choice for the song. I had a lot fun playing this, well done!

pascalman 2017-05-18 14:23

Good idea, funny implementation, good art. Great job!

hunttis 2017-05-18 15:02

Ok, that was something unexpected :D Nice pick on the music for the mood, even if you didn't compose it.

The gameplay is perhaps a bit simplistic for long term engagement, but I could see this as a part of a mini-game-collection! Or maybe if it had different things in the "world" that could go wrong. Like someone eating a whole cake while the vase is also in the level, so you have to keep your attention on several things at once.

tuomo 2017-05-19 07:24

@ketchupcoke Glad you liked my little silly game so much. Yes, there is a limit at 30 people and 6 possible events (4 different types) (if I remember correctly). After that game just generates the same level until you make a mistake.

@rodrigo-denubila @pascalman Thank you for nice comments!

@hunttis Did you play until there was more events than just the vase? After level 3 (I think?) cat event is introduced. There is total 4 different possible event types after you get to levels with 20 people. The last event which I don’t think anyone has mentioned yet (no one got that far I assume) is bit evil on game design side:) Interesting you mentioned mini game collections, games like Mario Party or Warioware were some of the inspirations for this game.

sgstair 2017-05-19 18:53

Really nice game - simple but pretty refined. I'm a big fan of filtering the music in the selection screen. I would love to see some persistent UI with the score and stage number. After a while it starts to get pretty tough to tell people apart as you get gloves, and people with just slightly different pants colors, but it doesn't seem unfair, just difficult. All the false flags of someone jumping in front of a vase and waving, or something, are brilliant. The level I finially missed, I wasn't really able to see the character clearly because of everything else going on, and the ending is pretty amazing too.

I played this on stream at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/143780402 - time 2:40:25

2017-06-07 20:27

Nice little game! I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jMCwacAGwrA
