LD38 — A Small World

Space Turtle by Sebastian Lague 2017-05-01T19:42:04Z

The game was felt relaxing with the music. It has some good atmosphere. It's a simple but good idea. It gets pretty challenging too if you go after high scores.

It would have been nice to be able to control the turtle with a mouse. Can't really find more complaints as this was a simple but pretty well executed game.

Also, it's nice to see that my distant relatives have some important work to do.

Humanity Simulator by RabbitTortoise 2017-05-06T18:32:51Z

@jason-kennedy Thank you for testing the Linux build. The game's idea is to get as much money as possible while you pollute the planet, polluting the planet to certain level being the main goal. We wanted to have a hidden message behind that. About that camera: We knew it wasn't too good, but snappiness was better than bad smoothing and delay (First time trying to animate a camera).

Humanity Simulator by RabbitTortoise 2017-05-12T11:54:00Z

@sgstair Thank you for the feedback, it was interesting to see how you reacted to the game. Higher cost buildings generate more money and pollute faster. We didn't get the descriptions ready in time for submit. And yes, this game needs a LOT of polish.

Global Disaster by Jamesy012 2017-05-02T09:05:49Z

This was really fun to play on Android. Great entry. Audio was good, music was good. It's hard to say any negatives. It's simple, but fun. Graphics fit nicely together and it has a good feel to it.

They Dance With Asteroids by TurnWolf 2017-05-03T18:09:08Z

I liked the idea but the game was too fast to get hang of. The elements came so fast that I didn't get time to analyze what they did. Maybe you should make two separate gamemodes, slower one for learning and faster one for playing more seriously. Visual are good. Good job.

Bazooka Freaks by Neato 2017-05-01T16:24:18Z

This was more fun than I expected. I really liked the idea that the game takes place inside a planet and that the core attracts the missiles. Bugs that I encountered in the Artillery mode: Sometimes a player glitches trough the ground. I once got blasted partly under a rock and after that it was hard to see around with that player.

ANTIVIRUS by KappaIX 2017-05-01T18:54:55Z

Very good game, I hit retry more times than with any other game yet. It would be very nice to be able to just hold the button to shoot, my finger was pretty tired after playing this for some time. Audio is good, the game feels polished. Size change was a very nice idea and I like the the theme you chose.

The game was very challenging and, as a result, I chose run and hide, too hard for me :)

Stepggedon by Barbaarian 2017-05-01T19:26:22Z

I think you had a very good idea but I was a little confused about what to do. There was this map at the top left corner with an exclamation mark and I thought that I had to go there. But when I tried to go there I would get Game Over before I got there even if I trampled nothing. And there's no happiness meter in the corner at least for me. I liked the graphics and the audio but the music was too repetitive for me.

Proxima Centauri b by Goncalo Monteiro 2017-05-02T19:14:09Z

I think that this game has a lot of potential. Currently it just has too many bugs to be playable. Hopefully you have time to explore the possibilities of this game. Fix the bugs and add more buildings. I have to say good job, I have never made a game that runs on a website :). Few bugs that I had: The cursor is offset. Explorer starts exploring the space if I try to move it outside the planet (i.e. disappears completely). Music stops playing.

RETROHACKER 1993 by Flatgub 2017-05-05T19:17:45Z

Very good concept. Unfortunately there's not too much content. It feels good to play. The tutorial is very good, we just need more content, maybe some background music too. Those keyboard sounds are amazing, there are own sound for press and release.

Core Breakdown! by Firstdream 2017-05-01T15:56:25Z

A nice little game. Few problems that I had while playing: For some reason I got stuck to the end of a dialogue the first time I launched the game. It didn't happen second time so I don't know what happened there. The sheep herding minigame was playable, but I got a little frustrated when some sheep were just outside the red box and when I tried to herd them, they would just overshoot the box from the other side. Sidenote: Should you opt out from the audio ratings since you don't have any audio? It's kinda hard to rate it when there is none :) And sorry if I leave too harsh ratings, I tend to do it sometimes :)

Little Unsuitable Journey by Lukuluk 2017-05-01T16:52:10Z

Nice little journey you have here. Looking around felt little bit shaky. Checkpoints are good as I constantly run out of food :). Maybe you should opt out from audio ratings since there is none?

It's a Small World by NedMakesGames 2017-05-12T13:02:14Z

A very good entry, art and sound were great. At first the jump mechanic felt weird but it got much better when I learned more about it. Maybe you should introduce the mechanics gradually. Otherwise I had fun playing the game.

A Mind Is A Small Place by Juju Adams 2017-05-12T13:27:51Z

Great job! Atmosphere was very good. The graphics and sound fitted together well. At first I didn't get a lot of the symbolism behind the game but after reading some of the comments my eyes opened a little. I'm happy that you chose this difficult topic to tackle, it's something that we should pay more attention to.

World Keep-Away by dracominer 2017-05-01T17:30:50Z

The idea was nice. It was more fun and challenging than I thought. Also first game that I have rated and that had self-made music :) It got a little repetitive after some time but hey, there was some! The jumping felt surprisingly good.

The turrets sometimes felt a little weird because when they shoot an astronaut it spawns again ahead of you and then its harder to dodge his shots.

Few bugs I encountered: Sometimes an astronaut spawned inside a wall. You can do these "super jumps" when you are close to a wall (intended or not?). I never finished the game because in the 3rd level (I think it was the third, maybe final level?) I got outside the map or something and the game crashed.

Bug Attack! by Gurbx 2017-05-02T17:32:25Z

Good entry. This felt somehow familiar, maybe it was close to all those online games I played when I was little. Different resolutions would be nice and adding features like zoom, repairing, maybe healing would have made this better. But for a 48h game I think this was very good. I got to level 16 and then died. I think its good idea to continue develop the game further.

The Space Explorer by UnidayStudio 2017-05-03T19:27:48Z

Nice entry. The game has good art and background music. The planet feels much smaller than it is in reality. There were some glitches in the animations but otherwise it played great. Little short but good game for 72 hours.

Little bug by Altron 2017-05-01T17:08:58Z

I liked the idea. For me the intro text was visible but I agree that it could have been a little bit brighter.

I also would have liked if the glowing had stopped when I'd try to move again. For me it felt a little clumsy that I had to press space bar again.

Colorfly by Zelos 2017-05-02T16:53:22Z

The visuals and audio are great. It really payed off to focus on music and the mood. Sure, the gameplay is simple and easy but all games don't have to have complex mechanics to be good. Still, I would have liked it even more if there was a little more to do. For negatives, the build sound doesn't mix well with the background music.

A very good entry.

Floppy McFloppyface by Mars 2017-05-03T19:02:18Z

Flopping arms to write this comment. That was.. different. Not in a bad way. The humor, programmer art and the music fitted together well. The music was pretty annoying at first but for some reason it got "better" when I played more. Thanks for the fun little game.

Shrimp Tank by slash_random 2017-05-04T17:26:16Z

Camera needs some work, but the music was implemented nicely. It was a very good way to warn the player. Snails were fun, using them as elevators to get to the top. And then to be eaten by a fish. Dying seems a little bugged in graphical way, the shrimp flattens to a long thin line.

Why Go Outside? by epiplon 2017-05-01T18:23:03Z

I had some fun there. The concept was nice but there wasn't much to do. I liked the effect when energy goes to zero and the game had some humor too. I think you meant to add more to the view from the window. There are some visual bugs there at least for me.

Some bugs that I encountered: For some reason the game went black when I slept in the bed and then went to flick the light switch. Didn't test if this was the exact path to produce it again. Because of that I never played past day 2 evening and I don't know if something happens after that.

If you go insane, restart the game and then press escape to the menu the mouse cursor does not appear.

Something Something by sgstair 2017-05-12T12:38:50Z

I'm impressed how much stuff you got ready in 48h. RTS games are hard to do (at least from my experience). It's unfortunate that you didn't get more features in. Camera felt pretty good and the choice of simple graphics was good. Also, multi-unit select, please. Good job.

Daily Routine: the smallest worlds are the ones we get stuck in by Samurai Spark 2017-05-02T18:34:29Z

Very nice game, it had a really nice twist that I was not expecting. The graphics looked good, maybe you should have added music and more audio. At first I almost closed the game without noticing that there is more to it. I like the ending message, its something that we all should try to remember. Thank you for this game, rating all these games has been more fun than I expected.

Asteroid Harvester by YourLocalSavior 2017-05-02T06:20:37Z

A good small game. At first it seemed that you had to be just lucky to get those asteroids hit your planet, but there were ways to get them closer. Aliens seemed to be just a nuisance, I found out that the best way to get big is just to ignore them and try to direct the asteroids to hit you. If you tried to attack them it would often just result in asteroids getting blasted away from you.

I liked the music, it didn't feel too repetitive and the sound effects were nice too. Physics worked well enough. For negatives, My planet once decided to go outside the screen. And even if you wanted, it was very hard to defend yourself from the aliens when the planet was on the bottom side of the screen and the aliens attacked from the bottom side.

PS. I played the web version.

Let's Be Happy in Our Small World by Tuomo 2017-05-12T14:03:19Z

Well polished game. Transition to people picking was great, I liked the effect to the music. At the start it felt slow but the difficulty ramps up fast after certain point. Graphics were pretty good, the choice of music was good. At the start there should be a little tutorial window or something to tell what to do. The only complaint I have is that once there were two people in front of a vase and the one that was rendered behind the other broke the vase. So I had no idea what he/she looked like. Muutoin, hyvää työtä.
