well that was different :P neat idea. Played right through to the end too... i think, does the game end suddenly when you defeat the thing in space? Could be interesting with more polish. In saying that I have to admit though its a very creative idea.

@radmccool, yup the whaling boat at the end is the final boss. Thanks for playing all the way through!

Good job with the graphics (the joint on the whale's tale is a nice touch), and I think there's promise with the gameplay. I found it difficult to make progress though, because the whales were either too far apart to jump between, or there were too many blocking the way. The jumping is also a tad unpredictable - sometimes I jumped really high without meaning to. I like the idea, and was curious what the backstory was behind the whales (before reading the spoiler)!
I'm not the best at platformers so I had a bit of a hard time with timing the jumps to make sure I could get on the whales. Interesting idea for a game though - I didn't get to the end, but I can appreciate what radmccool said the final boss was as well! I think I'll try it again and see if I can get there. Nicely done.

There's ether too many whales or too few, why can't whales make up their minds!?!?! I had a very hard time progressing, there was a real feast or famine situation happening. In either situation progressing was simply impossible for me.
I also had a problem where RNG just kinda screwed me. Also had a tough time getting stuck on the head & tail of the whales without being able to jump. Overall, a pretty frustrating Doodle Jump clone.

Early on I found it quite hard to get higher, but it seemed like once your reached a certain point, a ton of the whales would flood down. Although the game is quite simple, I was driven with the desire to see where the whales were coming from. I was not expecting the little twist at the end, and it definitely summed up the experience.

It is very difficult to reach the surface, the whales are, or very separated, or close together. It would have been well to have included other objects or to vary spawn ratio. I cant understand why that man can breath under wather,...hahaha Try to think some short screenplay next time. Well done.

Cool challenging little game, the platforming worked well and pushing whales out of the way to climb higher was weirdly satisfying.
Sound effects did their job as well, jumping and the 'explosions' toward the end all fit nicely with the art and gameplay.
I didn't defeat the boat, I got to it twice and wasn't sure what to do and died, so that's disappointing on my part, but good game!

Wow this is really addictive, I spent too much time jumping whales. Just as a suggestion, the spacing between whales can lead to some frustating moments, and it would be nice to have a minimap to know where you are exactly.
I like this idea. One thing that bugged me was how long the guy took to fall down, obviously it's underwater, but I still think he could fall a little bit faster.

The physics parts could use some work. Falling down felt floaty, which makes sense given that we're playing underwater, so I won't complain much about that for obvious reasons except for the occasional bouts of frustration when I had to resume ascending again . Jumping felt harder than it should at times, specially when hitting a stack of dead whales coming down together. Whale spawning seemed to be glitchy at times.
Despite this, I liked the concept and felt intrigued about what was happening. Also, exploding whales? :D
Nice job!
Cool idea, I like the idea of a constantly dropping platform level.
That said, this is a bit challenging for me (I'm not much of a platformer myself), and I kept finding myself stuck, and unwillingly riding a whale all the way back to the bottom...
I like the idea of falling platforms but unfortunately I'm really bad at it :see_no_evil: I never managed to get higher than 2 or 3 whales.

The idea is nice with the falling platforms. The way it is now it is very difficult to get to the surface; I didn't manage to jump on more than two whales. Either there were too few whales such that I couldn't reach the next one or there were too many such that I didn't get past them.
The sounds were kinda annoying, sorry.
Hey, the game is fun! You did a great job, however, I didn't like how hard the whales could be pushed away. It is rather hard yo get the required angle. Maybe they should be physically lighter? Besides thank you for the idea and your created little world. I gave it a rate :) Check up ours, if you want to find yourself in the hand-drawn world https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/stardust
Interesting game, not sure I truly enjoyed the slow jumps and pushing of dead whales, but it made me want to keep going until I'd reached the surface. Once I did, I didn't realize that I shot up into space and still controlled my character - I assumed it was some kind of end sequence. I also don't know if I then died there (after realizing I could fight) or if I won, since it immediately went back down to the seafloor without clear feedback what happened. I also wish that you could quickly swim down somehow, cause waiting to drop down got a little tedious.
I would like to see some sense of progression while you jump up. I had no idea if there really was a surface or if I was getting trolled. I tried remembering the seaweed/vine shapes to check my progress, but failed to do so to a useful extent. Maybe the volume of the corpses exploding on the seabed going down the higher you go.
The art is a little inconsistent with different resolutions for different elements, resulting in different pixel sizes. The audio was basic and a little shrill, but served its purpose functionally.
Overall an interesting concept that could use a little polish.

Had some bad RNG I think, but I liked the art! The sound of the jump was maybe too happy for the mood?

nice idea, i think the game need more space between some whales, in some moment are 5 whale's all together and make impossible to pass them, i cant finish the game because of it jejejeje...anyway nice entry was fun

There are some jumping bugs, the protagonist is often staying on the whale and can not jump, it should be fixed.
But I like the idea of game! It reminds me of Adams Douglas' "Hitchhiker's guide"
LD never stops surprising me.
An improvement would be to change up the background more. It's hard to get a sens of upwward progress since the the whales/platforms constantly descend.

This is a really fun game. I like the simplicity of it, and it's pretty addicting, if not a tad bit frustrating (but in a fun way). There are a couple of issues when you land right on the edge of the whales, and I had more than a handful of impenetrable cascades of whales, but despite all that, in my opinion, this is an excellent game. Great work!
Nice art style and I liked being able to manipulate the placement of the whales. Great graphics and the drama of avoiding falling all the way to the bottom, with the inclusion of the exploding whales made for a compelling game. Nice work!

Neat game. I included it in my Ludum Dare 38 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLywFLMDPJc
