@adrien-dittrick Thanks for the notice, it should work now!
I like it, it is short but I had fun. At the end I was like I killed all those people to find nothing? The only think I would improve is graphics :)
I really like how the game looks. Reminds me of Gods Will Be Watching, which is about making sacrifices as well. I'm sad I can't give it a higher overall rating, but I'd like to encourage further development.
Again, a thumbs up for the choice of perpective and artstyle.
Game is suprisingly atmospheric. I think is the lack of bckground music. I like where your going with this game. However, running out of bullets is way too common. Dunno if it is a bug. Then again you did say it was "unfinished". Pretty solid work nevertheless.
@mza Thank you for your feedback and you can reload with R.
Hi there! I really like the graphics and writing/intro of the game. The shooting also feels really good. The last few weapon upgrades did not really feel better than the shotgun, it would be great for a strong progression. In the end i traded for a pretty bad weapon i fear and had to face the boss with half my life - died 20 times, but finally managed to off him :D
I like that you offer a bigger screen resolution, i'm running on 3440x1440. The only thing that does not translate well are the speech popups, but i could still read them. s1.png
I like it, good job :) (and also, thanks so much for playing our game :D)
@rongo-matane Thanks for the feedback! There was no time left to balance any of the weapons, so you are very right on that. I myself noticed the dialogue system not scaling too, but there was barely any time to fix it and I knew all pixels would still be drawn, so you could still read it if you hugged the screen. Thank you for the kind words and again, your feedback is very welcome and helpful to me!
I enjoyed the game quite a bit and liked the graphics a lot. I found it a bit short, and I also found it quite difficult, I think a laser sight would have gone a long way, the drone fight sequence felt awfully punishing after the first room. Overall thought it was well done, good job on the game.
Whoa, dug the atmosphere and the attention to detail especially how those folks aim at you as you walk by if you chose not to fight them! Short, but made sense with the story you were telling. Now please... Setting this debate i'm having with my friend; was the guy you had to kill at the end the friend who's in the picture hanging in your house? Great work on this!
The color scheme in this game is really nice, and really nails the dreary post-apocalyptic look. The story bits are nicely done, too.
This was an experience, The mood and story are interchanged with intense action and it all goes so well together and creates that feeling of helplessness. I like the combat a lot, it feels like I am in control, though, one of the times I started shooting at the boss before starting the dialogue with him - so we are fighting, but as I approached during combat, the dialogue opened anyway and I was stuck in it, while the boss killed me in the meantime of course. Minor thing. Did not really care as I got my revenge right afterwards. Nice touch with the half broken drones having a bad aim. What a great start, I can't wait to see more!
@jeffrey-newton-evans I am sorry I did not get back to you earlier, but I wil reply on here so that perhaps others can read it. About the picture, originally the intention was to make a portrait of the player and his wife. She is not there however, very strange indeed. There is no definitive answer to what the dark figure might really refer to, but the name of the final boss in reverse might give you another clue. I won't make you play through the whole thing again, so his name was 'Noisulli'.
Got on a Windows machine and played this now! What a grim outlook… Very nice work on atmosphere!
The graphics are really well crafted and play right into the mood. I like the rough, textured feel of it all. The UI is very non-intrusive and neat, to the point that I actually didn't understand what to do at first because I didn't see the label prompting me to press Q to get the gun out, haha. Maybe you should add that to your list of controllers in the game description anyway? :p
At first I worried that the controllers would be a bit cramped but once I played the game and realised most of them aren't used intensively at the same time there was no issue and it worked out really well. Never seemed to feel a need for that sprint button tho! I did crouch behind the crate on the drone level, but I'm not sure if it did much, wasn't quite able to tell?
The title screen music was nice! How come you didn't use it in the gameplay as well? Sound effects were good too!
The open-ended finale was perhaps exactly what this game needed. Poor fellow… I did play the game a few times to try different options—did I miss something or did it make no difference to the ending whether I gave the wedding ring up or not? Just making sure!
It did confuse me a little on the final screen that pressing E at the house or walking right to what looked like yet another screen both led to the interior of the house, so just want to make sure there isn't supposed to be another optional screen that didn't work out for me for some reason? c:
Overall a very polished entry with lots of personality. Great work!
@ava-skoog Thanks for playing, since you took your time to play, you of course deserve some answers! Crouching only increases accuracy. I wanted to add functional cover, but in a 2d game like this, it's hard to set up the hitboxes in a way that makes it feel fair and natural whether a bullet passes or gets blocked.
The music was added to the all levels initially, but it felt kinda out of place with the action phases. My composer did not have much time that weekend, so could not manage to make a soundtrack for combat as well. To keep the game consistent, I either had to use the soundtrack all the time or not at al. The last option was chosen, but perhaps it was not the best decision.
The part about the wedding ring is interesting, I wanted to add a screen at the end with the names of the people you killed + the things you lost (like the ring) to show the player what they had sacrificed. However, time was running out and the game itself needed to be finished first. I think this is an essential element that I should have spent more time on, since now it leaves players confused. There is however another way to look at, does the ring really matter if you never even had a wife?
Final screen always leads to inside the house, if there was an arrow leading to the right, that is a mistake and I must have missed it due to sleep deprivation. Personally I was not too happy about the final product, since mayor elements are missing. Simply did not schedule well enough, which caused me to lose a lot of time on the less important details. However, I am happy you still managed to get the vibe me and my team were going for!
@hare-software: Thanks for taking the time to reply so thoroughly! Definitely empathise with you when it comes to not being able to quite churn out what the initial vision was. Happens to me basically every LD (not the best at scoping!) and I'm still not sure how to combat it, but as long as we make the best of it it generally turns out well enough to demonstrate what we had in mind anyway~ Good luck next time too! c:
@psychedelia About the final boss thing, thank you for letting me know! I rushed that part and must have missed to add a variable to prevent that. Sorry for letting you get gunned down like that! It's good to know you also felt this feeling of helplessness, I guess I conveyed my emotions during that weekend really well ;)
Man, the particles effects really stand out to me. The gunplay was really good, but the boxes didn't seem to provide much cover. The story was nice, although a bit confusing. Nice job, good entry !
