overall pretty good
cute little game! good job
Nice and simple. The world scope and list of abilities is just small enough to be manageable but a little stressful when there are a few too many enemies (good stress!). The three abilities are a nice mix, and I definitely found myself switching back and forth based on the situation. I would have liked some better indicators of when my towers are under attack so I could shift strategies, but that's something that you can get with some post-jam polish if you're so inclined.
Enjoyed playing it, lost the first round, won the second time. The defence spell seems OP, needs a longer cooldown. maybe each spell should have its own cooldown rate similar to warcraft/mobas. I'd prefer to press 1,2,3 to actually fire the spell at the current mouse location rather than switch to it and have to click. Some indication when you're under attack and how many towers you have left, something dramatic should happen when you lose a tower. Art needs a lot of work, the lightning was particularly disappointing visually, could be really cool. Not a bad start though!
This is a nice effort!
The graphics and concept are nice. The idea of tower defense on a curved space is very cool, and rotating the sphere was very satisfying.
- The basic lightning spell is very hard to use. The hitboxes seem a bit small, or tricky. Perhaps giving it a little splash would help, as I found myself unsure at first if it even worked. I really had to spam to hit anything. - The UI is not really clear on what's going on. Reading the tutorial text cleared it up but it would be nice if this was made clearer in game.
Beyond that it's great! you can add more abilities and enemy types, adn I think this can be a really fun little game!
GOOD JOB :D (try my game? https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/38/$18103)
Boy, your entry is SO similar to my LD#36 entry called People of the Sun!!!! I like the idea, but the game is not ballanced, you can find a way to rotate the planet until you can see all three monuments and then just use the shield (3rd spell) on them.
Simple game but quite fun, I didn't really have an big gripes with the game, it played well and I had fun. The few things I can think of are that it would have been nice if the game didn't let you heal your monuments more than max. I found the game a bit too easy with your mana regenerating too fast; resulting in what could have been a strategic game, lacking strategy. This could be a really cool concept if fleshed out into a more complete game.
All in all a pretty solid entry. I would have probably nerfed the defense spell a little bit, but in general it was fun!
Interesting game. it's pretty fun, though the lightning is pretty hard to use. The 3rd spell is super powerful, just keep that on the towers, and heal them as needed for an easy win.
Thanks for all the ratings, the good and the bad opinions :) I realize the game isn't balanced that well. I didn't what I could in that amount of time and if I'm going to work on it more, balancing spells etc will be the first thing I will do.
To all the people who are having problems with shooting the enemies - have you tried zooming in the camera with mouse wheel?
Also a big question... who found the Easter Egg? ;)
Nice game! Though it's a compo entry, it's a lot more solid than a lot of jam entries!
And if you could check out my game I would really appreciate it!
Nice game. Here are my thoughts:
From an enjoyment standpoint, I liked playing. I could easily see this becoming a more feature-complete game with some more work. Gameplay-wise, you do need to balance it a bit better. Mana recharge is really fast which is cool, but given how long the 3rd spell lasts, it's super easy to just have all 3 towers constantly defend themselves with the occasional 2nd spell thrown in. You could also perhaps make the 1st spell consume less mana as well to make it more viable against the 3rd spell.
The graphics are relatively straightforward but could use a bit of polish to make them shine. Most notably the UI could use custom panels/fonts and the spell icons could look a bit cleaner (perhaps thicken the stroke on them a bit to help them stand out too). The ruins are a nice touch, but there could be some more detail models here and there to help set the mood. Also if the enemies were actual characters, that would be pretty cool.
The audio is nice in the sense that it's unobtrusive and clean, however it would be nice if the enemies made some kind of movement and attack sounds so you know where they are (I had no idea when there were ones on the other side of the planet). Additionally, UI sounds would add a bit more polished feel to the game. On top of that, the music was pretty quiet, you could probably turn it up a bit more.
Overall, a very decent start IMO.
There actually are sounds for enemies moving and attacking. If it's too quiet, it's because Unity normal sounds were pretty loud during development so I turned the volume down. Turns out in the web version it's too quiet now.
I like the idea. The constant spinning of the globe to cover all the monuments was initially a novelty, though in reality was more of an annoyance by the end of it. The three spell system covers all bases fairly well, though in general are too strong and mana regenerates so quickly that you aren't punished for missing lightning or healing a monument that is already at full health. I had a surprising amount of fun, and wished that there was some sort of endless mode to see how long I could keep going!
Great gameplay, I enjoyed it a lot. The feedback from using the lightning wasn't too obvious so I wasn't sure if I was hitting things, but I managed to beat the game anyway. Great touch that the color of the monument is the health of it :)
Good game! The only suggestion I have is to make the instructions a bit more clearer! Otherwise, awesome. This is a very innovative idea!
BTW, this is actually very original, as the title says!
Game lacks proper control instructions. Took me a while to figure out I could rotate the world.
Also, clicking on enemies with the lightning bolt seemed to be random as to whether or not you'd hit them.
Alright! Great idea, and great execution. It's very simple but could be extremely addicting, at least to me. I really like these kinds of games. My only complaint for gameplay is that it's a bit too easy. With more time I'd like to see some game difficulty polish so it'd be actually a challenge. With even more time this would be a perfect game for some character progression. Level up and upgrade lightning to hit 2 targets? Make the healing last for a period of time? A little nice skill tree where you can upgrade your spells. But for a LD, great work.
Not a big fan of the power-orb mechanic. I'd rather see a few planned out levels with perhaps an end boss. And the mana was uncessesary, I NEVER ran out of mana and I was never in any threatening position.
Nice little game. It was fairly easy, but I think if you added some sort of upgrade system where you could purchase spells then it would make it more enjoyable. The spells refreshed too fast so they could be spammed with not much penalty. Graphics could be improved, especially the lightning and enemies.
Apart from a few balancing issues the game was fun, well done!
Thanks everyone for the reviews! Let me answer some of them: There are instructions in the "tutorial" section. To most complaints the answer is simple: time limit:P
Balancing the game and endless mode were on my list but sadly didn't make it. If I will work on the game after the competition, I will start with those (and apparently people are interested so why not?)
Seriously, I was thinking about almost every idea you mentioned. Endless mode, upgrade spells etc... But the idea itself was a bit new to me and I just didn't have the time to implement all. Thanks to everyone.
PS. Still no one found the easter egg?
