Really great game! Had a lot of fun trying to get everything to fit correctly, and the challenge of beating the scores is really hard! That's a very interesting take at the theme, UI could be improved a bit (I had a few pieces stuck when moving them on the bottom) and adding some sounds/music would be great. Congratulations!

daisychubb 2017-05-01 12:15

Very innovative game, I am super impressed at how polished the game is in such a short amount of time. Love the art style & the variety of difficulty!

izunah 2017-05-01 16:27

Wow! This was quite the unique concept, and I really enjoyed this idea. Congratulations on accomplishing all this is 48 hours. I didn't have any issues with the game as I playing it. The only thing I would have liked is if the score stayed visible on the tiles as you tested out different layout; however I could see why that may have been a design decision not too. I was able to get 2 coins on levels 1-5, however I didn't dive into the hard levels; definitely saving this to come back and play more later on.

Good job!

Interesting idea! It's very hard! Would've loved some music with it. There was a minor mistake in the text, it says left click on a block for turning while it is right click.

holgk 2017-05-01 20:05

Nice little puzzle game. Some music or sound effects would help the atmosphere.

thedoodleguy 2017-05-01 21:22

OMG I love this concept! so simple but works so well, great in game graphics. Very addicting. :-)

neontropics 2017-05-01 22:56

Welp, Tetris and Sim City are both in my top 10 game lists, this game does them both proud. Really clever mechanics.

Both Tetris and Sim City did have great music and sound effects - if you add that this would be so cool.

james-dunlap 2017-05-02 00:46

That is a very interesting take on a city building game. I would have never thought of mixing it with Tetris like you did. Music would have been nice and would have helped to add to the Tetris feel. Graphic style was good and the game was likable and fun. Could be interesting as a mobile game.

ladybenko 2017-05-02 10:28

Very clever take on the theme! This game is fun. A bit of more guidance into the rules would have been helpful, but fun nevertheless. As @james-dunlap said, I'd love to play this ad a mobile game.

roberto-romao 2017-05-02 12:14

I like but i feel it needs a tutorial or something like it, it takes me a while to understand

Good job on the overall! :D

huvaakoodia 2017-05-02 12:56

A well thought out puzzle this one and I even enjoyed playing it, to a point. There is one design aspect that I don't exactly agree on though.

There are two separate challenges in each level. How to fit all the puzzle pieces together to win and how to maximize your score? Problem is these two challenges don't overlap much at all. You first need to figure out how to fit enough pieces in, memorize the order or write it down and then play again this time matching the best scoring pieces in the right order. The scoring itself is a massive optimization problem as well due to the vast amount of possible combinations created by the rotations.

I'm not a big fan of brain melting puzzles. Managed to get 1300 in lvl. 10 which is most certainly enough for me. Otherwise a well made entry, some people will like it more no doubt.

slowian 2017-05-02 16:55

Great game, I like the fact that the gold that will be awarded for blocks placement is calculated on the fly.

raogs 2017-05-02 16:58

Nice little 'reimagining' of Tetris (grat name btw), just lacks music.

kasarun 2017-05-02 18:44

@Shurty @DaisyChubb @Izunah @thedoodleguy: Thank you ! Can you post your score for the level you played ? I have to know if 2 or 3 stars are easily achievable or if highscores is way too high.

@Sparrow : Nice i didn“t see it (I always mix up right and left click).

@roverto-romao : Didn't have time for, but a tutorial is a must have for a puzzle game. I won't do this mistake twice.

@james-dunlap @ladybenko : I'll try to port it after LD, with everyone suggestions.

@huvaakoodi : i should have found a way to display all available blocks. I prefer games with multiple solutions possibles ; the main challenge is to place enough blocks on the map. The gold mechanism is a way to reduce the possible solution (in hard mode, blocks cost 25% more to reduce possible solutions even more). If you run out of gold, it means you took the wrong decision in placing your available blocks.

izunah 2017-05-02 22:18

@kasarun My scores are 1658, 1639, 2314, 1456, 1958. I'll be honest I focus more on fitting my pieces in than trying to optimally put buildings in, so I could probably nab a few three stars if I played a couple rounds.

somnium 2017-05-03 16:16

That was an innovative take on the classic Tetris gameplay!

The combination of a spatial puzzle with a rule-enforced optimal way of solving said puzzle works pretty well, especially as it ties into the mechanic of unlocking additional pieces of the puzzle.

However, ultimately I felt that the large amount of possible combinations, and the fact that the unlockable pieces are unknown at the beginning of the round, meant that finding an optimal solution (or even a good one) was a matter of "brute-forcing" the puzzle, rather than solving it. As you mentioned, having the upcoming blocks visible would mitigate this somewhat, but potentially at the cost of making the spatial part of the puzzle (too?) easy to solve.

The graphics were very good, and the interface felt pretty fluid as well. I had fun playing the game, it was definitely the most challenging puzzle game I have played so far this LD. The final "coin awards" gave an nice extra incentive to try improving the score.

Oh, and I loved the punny game name!

>Planning my city. >Profit optimization! >Alas, just one coin.

rick 2017-05-03 17:18

This was waay more fun then I thought it would be. I had to stop myself from playing it, really fun!

It's awesome to see how well balanced the game is for just 48 hours. I say, polish it up and turn it into a little mobile game.

Seriously, I could play this on the toilet for hours

fiote 2017-05-03 22:59

About your comment on my game: Yeah, we envisioned a lot more features including flooding, fire, outside attacks etc, but time was short, lol. Thanks for playing my game for so long! I guess people enjoy the style, maybe i'll turn it into a real game.

About your game: I made past a few levels but could never get more than one star lol #poorskills Loved the mechanics tho!

2017-05-09 21:38

The concept is indeed interesting but I felt like I needed more space to put blocks on.

japes 2017-05-09 22:15

Great mechanic! The interactions between tile types, the satisfying feeling of slotting shapes together tetris-style, the tradeoff: do I need more points or do I need to optimise space? Really enjoyed it, will come back to it and play it some more.

One thing I would change if you work on this more (and maybe this is just me) is the graphics. It's quite intimidating at first to be presented with this intricately detailed map with number overlays. Looks almost like a computer motherboard. I would simplify them a bit just to ease a player in.

rnlf 2017-05-10 11:53

I didn't understand the concept at first but won anyway :D

The later levels made that impossible, and I had to understand the concept. Very clever!

bunnery 2017-05-10 14:34

Nice mixture of game ideas here - easy to play and quite hard to master. I think it could become very addictive though...

fangzhangmnm 2017-05-11 06:56

Addicitiving and brain-burning game.

erkberg 2017-05-11 20:46

Great idea and execution! The gameplay is very challenging and fun, though it was still hard for me to grasp how many points I would get even after playing for a while. I could very well see this be turned into a full puzzle game. I was just missing some relaxing background music, but apart from that good job overall!

kalm004 2017-05-14 15:03

It took me some time to understand the controls, but the idea is great. You have done a good job.

superbusyrobot 2017-05-17 02:53

I like what you've done with the idea of city building as a puzzle game. As a fan of both Sim City and Tetris as well, this one immediately feels comfortable to play and I enjoy the challenge of trying to build a more optimal city each time.
