LD38 — A Small World

Wrong Delivery by g12345 2017-05-16T21:18:06Z

Maaaan, this game begs for music and sounds! =) Adding Adlib SFX and Music and could easily see this as being a early 90's VGA shareware hit! The challenge was on the right spot!

Unfortunately, doesn't work. When I tried running from terminal, got this error. Mac Mini late 2012 running OSX Sierra Captura de ecrã 2017-05-16, às 23.33.04.png

Earth Invaders by MrGussio 2017-05-16T11:06:37Z

Java needs more games like yours to dispel it's bad name on multimedia. I really enjoyed it! That being said, I had some weird issues with input on OSX; sometimes, it would not answer to key presses. Other than that, a fun arcade challenge!

Snoozle Pooz by mathijs750 2017-05-16T22:07:15Z

I was alone in this small world =( Also, somehow, I managed to cross the road, but when I tried to cross back, I was flying! Loved that you took proper care to give it an Icon and splash graphics!

Hello my old tuga friend! Solid entry! Nice to bump into you around here! Interesting idea and very well executed - congratulations!

Also, play my game - I hope you will recognize some landscapes =)

A Small Planet by rayriver 2017-05-13T15:44:28Z

At first it looked like it wasn't playing with theme, until I came from the other end of the world and realized it was a small world, after all. AMAZING game! My favorite so far!

TerminAnt by davikin92 2017-05-16T22:31:25Z

Took a while to load, but eventually worked =) Nice job - feels like a proper game!

Naarrow by Ace17 2017-05-16T21:02:02Z

Very nice...but dashing over the spikes are hell on earth (or whatever world this is)! Enjoyed the audio quite a bit!

WebGL link seems to be broken?

Tiny Asteroid War by Hackingroelz 2017-05-16T22:01:47Z

Very nice game - but man, it's brutal! =) Solid and very well made - congratulations!

Quantum Frustum by nusan 2017-05-13T15:23:04Z

To play it on mac, I had to go inside the .app and give it execution permissions. Other than that, works fine =) Very well made, but I must admit it's not my thing. Congrats

DUCKTRON by neontropics 2017-05-16T21:22:52Z

Solid entry! Well worth the download - and played out of the box (contrary to many Unity entries). Loved the simplicity in the effective graphics and audio.

Hives (Gameboy ROM) by refreshgames 2017-05-16T21:31:43Z

Holy mother of god! You went legit with the retro vibes! Now I feel like a farce haha!

Anyway - nice job! Feels very well finished and polished. But damn it's hard! =)

Wake Up ! by GoZz 2017-05-16T21:46:55Z

Very nice style and experience! I had some camera bugs and it took me some time to figure out how to play - but it was a very surprising ride! Congratulations

Paper Jam! by danhett 2017-05-16T21:37:08Z

Very nice idea! But unless you took a slanted picture of a blank paper, you probably had your pens go over the paper and into the table. Oh, wait... ;-P Good job - very solid and brisky. Handles very well.

Smoke, the machine keeper ☁ by Plumepox 2017-05-16T22:38:56Z

Damn, that was a sick parallax scrolling! Very nice game!

Karma is a Bitch by drmargarido 2017-05-16T22:42:51Z

Keyboard controls doesn't seem to work on OSX? It's not the first GDX game to fail on this here. Still, loved the concept and the name!

Tiny Planet by Tiny Planet Studios 2017-05-16T22:22:22Z

Hah! Amazing intro! Nice game! For a while I thought you would make us sit trying the entire spectrum of combinations - thank god for the tip! Contratulations!

My World by C4TFLY 2017-05-16T21:53:03Z

Man, those monsters are fast! Please make the guns fire faster =) I only wish the hit was more evident - sometimes it felt the monsters were so close to me the bullets were spawning behind their hitspots? But quite entertaining!

Adventure Owl Meets the Mole Men by fenwick 2017-05-16T22:48:38Z

5/5 in every category! At first, it seemed like yet another "crash landed on a small planet, gotta collect ship pieces", but then I understood the concept at play and man...what a unique twist! loved it! Also, very well executed! Congratulations!

Stable Orbit by mrspeaker 2017-05-16T20:32:08Z

Simple but quite fun - and very well made!

Run the World! by Monty 2017-04-27T21:22:57Z

Updated the game to better handle keyboard events

Run the World! by Monty 2017-04-29T13:09:08Z

Updated again. The Ludum Dare version is finally on par with native versions.

Run the World! by Monty 2017-04-29T13:57:14Z

Updated to make it playable on mobile, with touch controls.

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-02T07:34:23Z

Thanks! I will eventually get back to it and fix this aspect. I was so displeased with the collision that I even considered removing the other cars. the amount of work put into rendering those convinced me to keep it, tho.

I had more courses planned - I might get back and add it. and a proper ending? yeah, lots of plans :)

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-07T15:49:15Z

Did some tweaking to address the issues still plaguing the game. Now the enemy cars are grayscale sprites and collisions will make the enemy car leap ahead with more room to the player to manouver away from it.

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-09T22:18:25Z

@takusan maybe a temporary glitch? seems to be working fine for me. What browser did you use to try?

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-09T22:20:34Z

regarding the "doing in C++" thing, I might even try to port it to MS-DOS eventually :-)

Gotta admit that while Outrun was the main inspiration, I was really aiming for the graphical style of TopGear

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-16T22:09:45Z

@rubel-nmb - that's weird! And you're not the first person to tell me this, but I can play it fine from the link...

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-16T22:10:43Z

@gozz - my original plan included a "select your music" screen, just like in Outrun...but then I realized I have exactly 0 songs I could use with this game ;-P But yeah, music would certainly help making the mood!

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-16T22:12:20Z

@jeremy-ryan and @symmsaur - since the rendering was all homebrewed, like in the old days, it's kinda of wonky to properly position things where they were supposed to be; thus, the grass, your car and other cars are *almost* where those were supposed to be, but not quite...

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-17T06:50:41Z

@izunah, at first, I thought about adding a proper ending, but after a while I said to myself "meh, it's a small world!"

@guitarbro if I were a guitarbro, maybe the game would be more musical ;-P

@joemid thats quite bizarre! also surprising that it runs on Safari at all - I didn't test it (despite also using a Mac). And the 7800 is such a underrated machine...

Thank you all, guys!

Run the World! by Monty 2017-05-22T21:34:16Z

As promissed, I'm porting the game to MS-DOS. And it's coming along quite nicely!

Solid 5/5 in all aspects! Such wacky game, I LOVE IT!
