Fighting zombies is not a very original or interesting idea, but the gameplay in here is amazing! And I love the art and the music!

proxy-games 2022-04-05 08:16

I really like the gameplay here. The mix of tile-based gameplay with card deck building is interesting, and it works well here. In addition, the graphics and audio are very nice, and the music ramping up when enemies are around is a nice touch.

alurian 2022-04-05 08:20

Love the game. Nice mechanic with the cards. Zombies is indeed the usual, but you gave it a nice twist. Nice visual and audio.

mdx 2022-04-05 08:30

nice gameplay

joscco 2022-04-05 08:30

Looks very appealing from what is to see in the screenshots! (Not a windows user unfortunately though)

save-sloth-studios 2022-04-05 08:31

Lovely game! I really like the mechanics, the visuals, the ominous but catchy music. Great work!

snory 2022-04-05 08:43

I like the idea behind the mechanis, the graphic and the music. Cool game. I bet it took some time to make it happen.

Ares for improvement:

- I am not sure how the dmg from enemy works, sometime they gave me dmg when they came close, sometimes after some of my actions

- I had one card to heal myself, but apart from that i didnt know how to heal. With combination of the point above it was hard for me to be in control of the game

Thanks for the entry, it was a pleasure to play it. :)

escapade 2022-04-05 08:44

Very nice and polished game, impressive audio and graphics. Although I do feel that escaping from zombies is quite hard when you are on low health due to the grid-based movement and the AI movement system. But I still had a lot of fun though.

rickylee 2022-04-05 09:13

Love it! Once I'd figured it out it was quite easy, My guy was focusing in the corner, eating up health cards and +dmg before slicing a simple knife for 1000DMG :') Great submission and goes well with the theme!

tadas-migauskas 2022-04-05 09:35

Loved the game! Very polished, great effects, appealing gameplay. Ony issue I has was readability of the font when some texts are smaller. All in all great entry.

vera-babchenko 2022-04-05 09:36

Great graphics and an interesting approach to gameplay! I liked the animation, how we and the opponents die! Very atmospheric music that is with you the whole game and you can listen to it endlessly!

fidrik 2022-04-05 12:05

really cool game. would like to see it expanded on. and I love the effects with the cards. the style kinda reminded me of Inscryption. did confuse me at first about using the health and + damage cards but I figured it out in the end

golin 2022-04-05 15:30

Man this game is so complete. There is so much potential in this game! Great work!

anhievus 2022-04-05 16:40

I thought I was burnt out with zombies and card-based mechanics, but you proved me wrong with an unusual, light twist on both. With a few more card options, I can see myself losing a lot of time to this game!

andrground 2022-04-05 20:03

Amazing game, I was fascinated with graphics from the very moment I turned the game on! Hard to believe it was done in 72 hours, although I think some balancing would not hurt. Some additions could turn this game into a full-fledged one, I'm willing to see it growing!

bogden 2022-04-06 07:24

Really great game! Awesome graphics, gameplay, and sound!

Would definitely love to see this game continued further and released on steam!

These are nitpicky, but I played this away too much: * You can infinitely kite a zombie around a block, getting infinite cash

Screenshot 2022-04-06 001503.png

* You can just die if you start a level on the edge of the map without any warning * You can move as much as you want between levels, which is cool but maybe unintentional. The zombies don't animate in right away though, so you can end up with the "spawning" way into the middle of the board because they made a bunch of moves * If you use the destroy all card, you don't get the benefit from destroying cards in the shop, which I thought was the whole point of the item * It didn't seem like there was much point to picking up health after a certain point in the game, damage was way more important * If you use a card and destroy it while it is attacking, it breaks stuff

cakts 2022-04-06 08:13

@bogden Wow, great feedback. I definitely need to keep balancing the coins to prevent the infinite coin strats, and also work on zombie spawning and pre-round moving to stop them suddenly surrounding the player. A lot of the card descriptions are vague (like the destroy all card), so I'm currently rewriting every card now to be completely accurate and better understood. I agree that health is basically useless in this version, which is why I think adding a ranged enemy will give it a bit more use. Also your final point just solved that bug for me, as I wasn't sure what was causing it, so thanks haha. Really appreciate the time you put into my game :D

yellowkamel 2022-04-06 10:29

You should totally do a full game out of this. Very polished animations and art style. Really cool experience. Fantastic entry!

erikengineengineer 2022-04-06 11:38

Very cool round-based strategy card game! The setting reminded me of zombieland

cakts 2022-04-06 11:40

@yellowkamel @erikengineengineer Thanks for playing! :D

roikku 2022-04-06 11:50

Nice artstyle!

cakts 2022-04-06 12:27

@roikku Thanks :)

marcenat 2022-04-06 14:24

Best game I've playerd so far. Really poslished, great art and audio, everything is on point and work well. The game is really addictive and I kept playing it, which means a lot for a jam game. The only complaint I could have is that I don't really see the connection with the theme, apart from the "you'll lose eventually";

cakts 2022-04-06 14:30

@marcenat Thanks so much for the feedback. I'm glad you enjoyed

jeanne-rossat 2022-04-06 15:35

Very nice graphics ! I really loved the gameplay, the concept is really fun

wegpast 2022-04-06 20:25

I really liked that game. Not very innovative but really well put together. I like the fact that you put a "collector deck" in the title screen to motivate the player to continue playing to unlock new card :p Clever ! A little thing to say here : Sans titre.png All zombie appearing at the top, we can't know their stat because it hidden...

Good job anyway !

stin 2022-04-07 17:06

Gameplay is amazing. Graphics is very beautifull i like it

okamit 2022-04-08 00:35

Interesting take on the card/board game genre! Worsk well and feels polished. The graphics work very well as well and makes it more engaging, and the combination of pixel art, 3D and moody light looks great, kind of similar to the HD2D-style square enix uses for some of its RPGs these days.

Good work!

cakts 2022-04-08 03:05

@stin @okamit Thanks :)

milq 2022-04-08 23:25

Oh, I'm on GNU/Linux and I haven't been able to test it since it's not my platform neither the Web. Do you plan to release it on other platforms? I really want to play it!

sasquatchbstudios 2022-04-09 00:20

This was a really solid entry! Well done!

Loved the audio, mood, graphics, and the unique take on killing zombies. Would love more cards to choose from (obviously this would be a post-jam thing since 72 hours goes by so fast!) - my only thing was I found the difficulty scaled a bit quick for my liking, and I didn't see any options for upping my health, so I died very quickly.

Nicely done!

ronanrory 2022-04-09 00:37

This game looks so good I bet no one would guess it was made in 72 HOURS! **BY ONE PERSON!!**

I don't have much experience playing card games, but this was a mixture of frustrating AND fun. I was able to survive 8 waves max. As I'm typing this, I see @sasquatchbstudios's comment, and I agree with all of their points.

This is one hell of an entry, perfect for Ludum Dare's 20 year anniversary!

cakts 2022-04-09 06:25

@milq I unfortunately haven't tested any other platforms and won't be able to for about a week as I am out of town and don't have access to my computer, but I will definitely look into it. I will most likely blog post here and on itch.io when I do port the game.

cakts 2022-04-09 06:29

@sasquatchbstudios Thanks so much for the review, really appreciate the kind words. I have a list of about 30 new cards I plan to add, as well as some more enemies to keep the later waves fresh, and am still trying my very best to keep the game balanced as I do agree that it is quite hard. Thanks so much for playing

cakts 2022-04-09 06:32

@ronanrory Thank you! I'm really glad you enjoyed the game . I also have little to no experience with card games and decided to make one for some reason. Thanks again for the kind review! :D

666savior 2022-04-10 03:06

extremely solid entry, very impressive for a solo build. Definitely needs balance as after about round 10 or 15 you can spam click the deck until you get what you want. I did this a lot on boss battles

dreamscale 2022-04-10 07:45

Love card games so this was really fun to play, and the audio/visuals are great! The only thing I would maybe change is the movement system, it seemed like there wasn't much point in moving as you can't really juke enemies by running away and moving too close to them will just give them a free attack on you. Other than that the core mechanics are really solid, there is plenty of room to add more cards/enemies and make this into something really special.

ehon 2022-04-10 10:43

The mood and music was awesome, I just couldn't belive it was made by just one person, wow! The elvel of polish is extreme, the graphic sits very well with the overall mood and the gameplay is interesting. 5/5!

teammonumental 2022-04-10 21:08

Love the art style! It's very satisfying to shoot and slice the zombies to pieces. I think you have a really solid gameplay loop here. If you decide to continue working on this game, I think it would be cool to have larger levels and maybe multiple characters to assign moves to. (Maybe this is already in the game but I just didn't get far enough) Great job overall :)

cakts 2022-04-10 22:31

@666savior Thanks for the feedback and for playing the game on stream with @outfrost. I really appreciated the kind words while you guys played.

@dreamscale Thanks so much for playing, I feel like experimenting with the movement system is something I'd like to look into in future builds. Thanks for the kind words :D

@ehon Thanks for playing and for the kind review! It was definitely a lot of work and not a lot of sleep being a one-person team but I'm glad so many people have enjoyed it.

@teammonumental Thanks for the kind words! I do have an idea for multiple characters that I might begin working on soon, and I will keep that larger level idea in mind. Thanks for playing

drentsoft 2022-04-11 15:52

Very nice entry! Loved the graphics and the music. Interesting move/card mechanic.

itsboats 2022-04-12 06:58

Woah one of my favorite entries I wanted to keep playing forever xD

left all my feedbacks on stream here: @ 1:04:30 https://www.twitch.tv/videos/1453391907

cyzaine 2022-04-12 12:49

OH man this was really fun! Presentation was great, and I like the pixel art that you have in here.

Game and effects felt polished and 'juicy' and the mechanics and strategy was high. Audio emphasizing size of the hoard was a nice touch. Digging through the deck as your money dwindles while you hope for another baseball bat is also a great feeling.

As far as more nitpicky critiques go, only one I really have is. - I seem to get a lot of doubles from the draw deck. Not sure if that's intended but it happened enough for me to question it - Some more board variety besides blocks, maybe even dynamic hazards that pop every x turns - Can you set traps? That would be a cool mechanic

I would LOVE to have this available on my phone for quick plays during free times, and you should really consider it I think.

cakts 2022-04-12 13:23

@cyzaine Hey thanks for the great feedback! Each draw is completely random but I do plan on experimenting with unique cards from each draw to stop the double ups, but I don't think it's something major I need to change atm. I do like the idea of hazards spawning, and there technically is already a fire hazard in the game that spawns from a BFR kill, but that card is super rare so most players won't actually see it. I'd also like to add some "base building" cards of sorts, including placeable spike traps etc. I feel like this could be a cool mobile port as well at some point in the future, so we'll see :) Thanks for playing.

zimny11 2022-04-12 17:40

Awesome art style. The game design is super well done. I like the card list in the menu, too. Great job!

cakts 2022-04-13 00:17

@zimny11 Thank you!

vixenmink 2022-04-13 02:33

Thanks for keeping me company in so many of these Ludum Dare streams @cakts!

Seeing this game played and actually playing it is soo much different. As you already know, I love what you did with the music and how it is connected with how many enemies are on the board. I can definitely see myself getting very lost in this game and I appreciate that so much.

+ I really like your tutorial at the beginning of the game. It helped me know the mechanics you put in. + It took me 3 tries to really get used to the games features but it helped me understand and appreciate the gameplay mechanics, because I sure didn't before lol.

- I was attacked by an enemy that was off of the grid so unsure if that is a part of the gameplay vlcsnap-2022-04-12-22h29m03s138.png - Also maybe mention the little box things that show up over time are just bricks and not treasure boxes. I totally used my 2 extra movement spaces to uncover it's just a brick X-D

I have seen 12/15 cards but I hope to be able to uncover them all soon! Highest wave won: 6

Do you have any plans on doing a mobile port?

Much appreciated and see you on the next stream we cross paths on!

cakts 2022-04-13 03:02

@vixenmink Thanks for playing even though you've already seen it in about 100 other streams haha . Really appreciate your kind words about the music and the graphics, I'm glad you enjoyed it! The zombies walking off the grid was a temporary fix for their pathfinding freaking out about boxes and getting stuck on edges, so I just allowed them to walk off the map, which I don't think is too much of a problem gameplay-wise but it definitely looks unintentional so I will most likely implement the ability for them to break barriers in a later update. Definitely want to make a mobile port and also get back into the YouTube scene so I might make one of those "Making a mobile game in 48 hours" videos that is tradition for every gamedev channel lol. Thanks again for playing and I will most likely see you in another stream chat haha.

vixenmink 2022-04-13 03:10

@cakts The work around definitely works! Looking forward to seeing more progression on this. I have followed you on itch.io and if you let me know your YT, I'll subscribe as well. Good luck and see you around!

fromage 2022-04-15 14:22

I really enjoyed this a lot! Gameplay is puzzly and fun, would just like to see more items and enemies, and maybe a story or some sort of carried over bonuses between loops in a full version. Well done!

cakts 2022-04-16 07:11

@fromage Thanks for playing, I’m glad you enjoyed! I will most likely keep working on this game and have already started planning a story of some sorts and a bunch more items. šŸ˜„

potkirland 2022-04-18 13:49

it is a very very polished entry. i think there needs to be an ending as well. i really hope to see a story mobile version! i think the game is very very well balanced!
