I Wanted A new Tower Defense Game by Lerc 2022-04-06T03:54:23Z
I enjoyed this, simple but very fun and lots of granularity in the different kinds of turrets and enemies
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → Users → Fromage

I enjoyed this, simple but very fun and lots of granularity in the different kinds of turrets and enemies
Undeniably an amazing game to play! New weapons and the combos...super satisfying. Great job!
Might be me but I felt like there was very little I could do to effect the results at all, heh. Judging by the end perhaps that was the point? I liked the music and the text was pretty funny, all told.
Nice! I would definitely love to see this expanded, maybe abilities for the different animals, regular results for combining them, that sort of thing.
I like this! The crafting was unexpected but I found it a bit hard to pull off. Controls too I would have preferred jump maybe be spacebar? Alt to pick things up?
Thanks for letting me know, I had no idea and I keep giving this suggestion, heh.
Some really funny stuff here! Made sure and followed every path!
Very great take on the theme! I wish that there were more variety in the shapes of rooms, maybe arrows to show which way the heroes will walk when they enter to throw in a few wrenches.
Also, since all the questions are in money for time things can get pretty easily optimized. I'd see about throwing in a few extra resources/wrinkles.
All in all though, really enjoyable!
Very binding of Isaac in a very short time. Very cool. Some unlocks of some sort would be a cool addition.
Though this was cool, the jump being your lifeline is a cool idea, and the music was unique.
I will admit I had a hard time figuring out what to do. I liked the sounds and the visuals, though
Great one! In a full release perhaps a bit more of a build up, like perhaps the ball starts slower and speeds up as the game goes on as a sort of gradual tutorial.
Or like classic tetris you can choose a speed to start to amp up the challenge if you want it.
First off, game looks great, plays smooth. The rewind time mechanic is cool and in theme. Nice work!
I think the systems here are cool, and I could tell at a click how many soldiers the enemy had, but it really seemed like a big investment to send my people against them, as they are used up in the attack, especially as there is just gonna be another skull popping up soon.
It fits the theme but man, it's rough, heh.
Still, love the mechanics and the general vibe. Good stuff.
I think all the ingredients are here! It seems a bit slow to me at the moment, and some sort of indicator of where you've clicked would be super useful, but the base is solid.
Looks really good, took a bit to figure out how to actually convince the others to follow me, but was enjoyable.
That eldritch mantis, though!
Very nice! I really like the graphics and the humor is sparse but solid! Would be cool if you could level up as you went somehow.
Escaped with 7 researchers. OR DID I?
Very nice one! Kept you busy but was not overwhelming.
The voice work was well done! The game itself was fun! Not sure what I was supposed to do with stuff I highlit, though, heh.
I liked the look of it, and I think there is the germ of a great story here, but honestly I was pretty peeved I couldn't surrender to the revolutionary, heh.
Art is really good! I couldn't make a jump and I'm not sure if it was me or if it was actually impossible. Still, love how well you have captured a classic 90's mascot platformer.
I think the bird looked great! I think I'm detecting worry circles around it's eyes and that looks great! The movement does look a bit floaty though, I agreed with Gotova.
This was a great idea! Loved the look of it and the controls were smooth!
Very glad to hear you can just hold and sweep in the new version, liked this a lot!
Really good! I love the natural tutorializing you did here, and the graphics are real nice! I think it may not have been intended for the wheels to make it a lot harder to climb rocks though (I got them and then went back down for a battery then couldn't get back up).
definite sunless seas vibes out of this. That's a good thing.
I enjoyed the puzzle, but I definitely second that having to look at the buttons is a bummer.
Also the heat mechanic at the moment is pretty low stakes.
Have to agree, apparently my expectations for when I would have a dash did not meet reality, so some indication would be nice. I do like the twists on standard platforming (only attack is a dash, you must kill all the badguys), and the music was pretty solid
@sillyman987 No worries! Just a suggestion, I know there's plenty of stuff in ours we couldn't get to!
This is really good! Kinda give me Starflight vibes! I could see the exploring be a bit more dangerous
Enjoyed this one, hard as nails but the voice acting does the job and is pretty funny, though it does wear after a bit.
This was really cool! The hot air balloons are my new best friends.
I was gonna mention the music but then I see that you explain how to fix that above.
The movement was confusing for me. I figured out how it worked, but instinctually I just expect the engines to push the thing so I was often going up when I meant to go down.
Very funny, would be a solid start for a typing of the dead sorta thing with more words. Or maybe there are more words and I'm just terrible at typing.
Sorry, might be just me but I had a hard time getting this to run at all. Said that I needed unity installed first.
Great puzzler! Kinda lemmings meets that vikings game. Quite clever!
Really like the concept here, and the attempt to mind palace everything in the place is taxing in a cool way.
I feel like it is both too easy and hard in the jam version, too easy due to getting the lay of the land, too hard because the space is so large to take in at first.
I don't think a tone is the best way to help...maybe the phone could have a detector that gives you the rooms that have anomalies?
Also, I am not sure what an object anomaly is, heh, I never found one.
I like a good puzzle game and this works well...some of the puzzle seemed a bit easy (I completed them with pieces left over) if that was a special challenge that might be cool!
Really enjoyed it! The various powers gave it a zelda like feel.
Enjoyed it! Only, what is happening upriver?!
Enjoyed this a lot! Saw the same weapons and upgrades a lot but maybe that's just me, heh. Good work!
Yup! Fell in a couple times to be sure. The graphics are nice and I thought the sound worked well
Liked the art and the simple controls (though I had a devil of a time throwing sometimes, for some reason).
ENjoyed it!
@100th-coin Heh, yes, sorry. A bit of an homage to old Sierra games there. There are a few subtle hints, though.
@steve-dragon Thanks so much for the in-depth thoughts!
Yes, totally agree about branching dialogue. Our hopes and dreams list looks a lot like your suggestions, heh.
@andre-dasie The idea is that you can't save the human, only delay his inevitable doom as the protagonist in an adventure game. Thanks for the feedback in any case!
Oh, and the bit where there was no ending is a known bug, but it's intermittent, sorry.
@dj-depressive It was a goal we thought we could hit. The original intent was to have you start with fewer items and if you pick just the right one you would get a new one, but we didn't have time to implement.
Appreciate the kind feedback!
Thanks @kazuonomura ! Definitely on our list of wants for a new build!
@joeloliveras Hopefully someday!
@lcrabbit Yup, sorry...it's a known bug. If we get more time to go back it's at the top of the list to fix! Thanks for the heads up though and for playing!
@theblitz The blanked out text is a known bug, yes. Thanks for reporting it though, appreciate you giving our game a look!
Spoilers:
The human dies no matter what, as befits the theme. If we expand it outside of LD we might give him a slim chance to live, but no promises.
@hekateras Sorry you keep running into it, but thanks for checking it out! Yes, we'd had a whole thing planned with extra items at the start but....heh, well you know what happened.
@borabee thanks so much for trying out our game and for all the great feedback. Definitely agree, due to time constraints we wrote most of text before we even knew what the items would exactly be, heh.
We hope in the next iteration to give more hints and, crucially, individualized text for each of the items.
@angiemon Thanks so much! We appreciate all your great feedback and we'll definitely take it to heart if we are able to do a post LD release!
@0x746564 Thanks for the feedback! We may institute some way to "win" beyond what we've got so far in future releases, but the inevitability of the human's death was how we aligned with the theme.
Appreciate your thoughts, thanks for checking our game out!
I can say I was engaged well enough to play several times trying to win! Would be nice (and a cool add on) to get some stats on each of the troops beforehand as it seemed to me they were different
I liked this, kinda dungeon lords....y. Would be nice to be able to confirm and move to next dialogue at the start, and I agree that moving walls could be cheaper (since it doesn't actually even kill anyone) I moved one since the tutorial seemed to be suggesting it, but then I was bankrupt, heh.
Music great, challenge is really good. There's some weird bumps and corners but good stuff!
Great one! Very impressive! Liked the subtle menace of the blanket slowly lowering.
Perfectly executed little roguelike. Very fun. Would love to see this with a bit of story and maybe tipping a bit into a more roguelite territory, but otherwise no complaints.
As a cat owner, I feel this. Graphics are great and the gameplay is fun!
Agreed, couldn't get this to work, let me know if it's in a playable state and I'll check it out for sure!
I enjoyed this, solid start to the game to be sure! Liked the sound and the atmosphere
Enjoyed this a lot! Now sure I noticed too much of a difference between the weapons except the tank which had the explosion effect, but I had lots of fun.
Granny's true foe, angles!
So I think the arena can end once all the competitors are gone. It seemed to wait the same amount of time no matter what. Also, I think since the opponents are infinite your best strat is probably to just choose one at a time. ANyway, I like the general concept...maybe you could add powers, or even just a formation to put your "troops" into?
Them guys shouldn't have tried to fight me carrying all that jam
Quite fun! I especially liked how the sound queues would tip you off to the danger.
Great one! Adding my voice to the chorus for a station indicator once full, also, maybe upgrades and more enemies? As is I got to a point where I didn't feel I was in any danger
Love the art! When he grabbed the sun I melted as if I were in contact with plasma.
I felt super boxed in super quick. I liked trying to find the combos though, and the graphics are pretty fitting
That music was really good! Minor grpahics gripe the flame looked like it was positioned wrong. Enjoyed the minigames too
Enjoyed this. I liked that there was a bit more to it than it seemed with the turrets. Would like something where you could collect coins and try to rebuild, stuff like that.
The art was great! I do wish there was more connective tissue between the choices, and I noticed a few cut off before the end. Also I got stuck once because I didn't have enough resources to choose either option.
Crazy amount of work on all that text, though, very nice.
Enjoyed this a lot! Very nice core driving feel. I do think it feels hard to damage anyone without hurting yourself just as much, I went on the hunt for others and kept blowing up, but that could just be me.
I loved the lines from the snail, and the gun, even if it is only for moral support.
I saw this being streamed and missed the name, glad you commented on my game so I could find you (to be fair I probably could have anyway by google LD Giraffe, but still). Great stuff!
Music is really cool!
I though the dance dance portion took such a different skill set that it was a bit jarring to me, but the penalty was so small it didn't really matter.
Graphics were great, got rescue ranger vibes from this for sure.
I really like the idea of this, and would love to see you expand this!
Great gameplay loop, very fun! Really enjoyed chaining jumps on cars.
Sounds like you know just what you need to do to improve this, I will say what is here works well, my only hopefully unique addition would be as a research facility, having upgrades they can bash out to help defend/repair/mine would be cool
Nice! I would say maybe the prof's voice is a little too low.
@superpokeunicorn Shhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
Game started for me but each time I was below the sand somehow?
Works great! Felt a bit hard to get a hold on what I am doing over time...though that was an issue I had with reigns too, to be fair.
I liked what I saw of it, but there seemed to be a delay in the controls so my jumps were off. I also didn't see that z,x, or c actually did anything, but maybe I wasn't to a point that they came into play.
ahhhhhh, ok!
Seems like it's been picked up by others, but it doesn't seem like there actually is an exit, heh. Not much to do but walk around. I thought moving the boat was kinda fun though?
Very cool one! Art is great and the music fits really well. Amazing 48 hour fun ware game!
I got the same issue as Bohmann, clock is just a ring. I like the general feel to the graphics and the sound is solid.
Agreed, getting a 404
I enjoyed this! Got overconfident with the crazy fast distribution of rocks and tried to save up for something bigger which meant my doom.
This game has a great message and some cool tactical options, though none of them seem to do as much as the rangers (and I have no idea what poaches losing morale does, though I am all for it, heh).
I just wish I had more info...a comment here helped me with understanding how ranger positioning can stop poachers, but especially early game with few rangers and randomly (as far as I can tell) moving elephants, it was rough to feel like my choices made much impact.
I liked the art, but I do wish I could have skipped it on subsequent plays
I never saw a monster, and I couldn't figure out how to do any crafting. It was VERY menacing though, so great atmosphere.
Very sweet little game. Graphics and sound work great together. Just a slight hitch which seems almost petty to mention, but it was hard to tell what was a heart item to grab and what was a skull item (in game of course, I can see you listed them above). I mean my dog loves bugs, heh. Anyway, quite touching
I liked the concept, but the attack being q and e is a bit awkward. Also got a bug with the attack tutorial chest where it would close out before telling me how to attack, heh
Very smooth! Only thing I can think to recommend would be a way to undo, or a phase before the game where you build the boat.
OR, if you wanna go on with it from here, some sort of buy pieces/upgrade them as you go mechanic and a story to go with it.
Great stuff regardless!
I feel like there is something I'm not doing, heh. Graphics were cool and it was fun to watch that thing fly, though.
Enjoyed it! Maybe it could have had some kind of timer per level as the enemies eat at your bones? Maybe even if you're not careful your bullets can damage them as well?
The art is very cool! I killed a lot of gnomes too...
I found the move and shoot to be a bit awkward, perhaps the mouse would be better as the fire.
Nice! lots of choice and very depressing, in a good way.
Cute art and the game is fun! I'd like to see more upgrade options, maybe something you can add to the home?
Definite StarFox vibes, I wasn't sure if I should be just shooting things or collecting some...
I won! Controls are great! only thing that I can really say is that I would like more! Oh, and something on the main menu to tell you what to hit to select things.
I really like the theme, and I just generally like the idea of flying a ship like that, but a few things:
If it is a ship, then it would be cool to have some sort of solar wind mechanics, or some enemies to fight on the way (that might be the plan in future, to be sure, or might even have been in the game I just didn't get that far, see below). Right now it might as well be clicking on the star to go there.
On that note, the view as is is a bit annoying with the mast directly in the way, especially if there really is no need for it to be there, mechanically.
Lastly, I couldn't work out how to lift the pipe.
Anyway, liked the audio a lot and the premise!
Oh, I know. Just couldn't get it to work, sorry. Might just be me, though.
I enjoyed this! Would be cool to see some sort of more puzzley challenges using this system, somehow.
I did it! 82 on hard!
I had a lot of fun with this. I wish there were some more options, but what is here is solid! Great job!
Sure! I'd love to see either level up bonuses you can choose from, like more health, different weapon mods, faster soul sucking, that sort of thing (just stronger or even side upgrades like a bigger sycthe that moves slower) that just pops up when you level or like a store you can spend souls at?
Nice! I agree a timer from the start would be nice, but fun little game!
It was tough with a keyboard, I agree. But you did warn us at least, heh.
I will say there were sometimes I felt as though I had pressed the flight button and it didn't go off.
Also, for keyboard play at least it would be nice to be able to have flight be press and hold.
You have nailed the basics here, it works great!
Would love a bit more spice here, beyond just attacks and defense.
Pretty solid! I do wish there was a way that you could skip forward a bit after restarting. Sound, especially music, is great, and the loop is good!
I got the good ending but to be fair I did ruin their front door for no reason so I'm not exactly a peach.
Fun concept! Most I'd just say be a bit more forgiving on the timer, or have other places to steal from but of course that's about time that I am sure you didn't have, heh.
I enjoyed this a lot! Most of my critiques have already been said up top, but I do have a different suggestion that I haven't seen others make, and that would be to have some up notes in the piece.
Right now it's all down, right from the start. It would help sell the relationship if we got to see a bit of this family in better times, I think. Even if it was just on a start screen.
Think of the impact of seeing them happy, then hitting start game and it cuts to the bleak winter, for example.
That queen should thank me, that is WAAAAY too much blood for one person, heh.
Fun little game! Liked the mechanic of the shield guys being bloodbags you have to break down a bit to harvest
Yeah, game didn't load for me, sorry.
let me know if you get a working version up and I'll take a look!
Thanks! Obviously not finished but you know that, I do like the primary mechanic, and honestly seeing the standee style avatar fly off into space is pretty funny, heh.
My son and I had a lot of fun with this!
I think the harvesting theme could be better integrated (we didn't even realize it was a thing until our second playthrough)
Also we played the itch version but there was a bug where at the start of the node selection it would error out and auto move to the next battle. We didn't get to fight the last boss as a result.
Anyway, great stuff!
Thanks for letting us know what he says it was driving me nuts, heh.
FUn pac-alike! The cats are super cute on their scooters!
THis was lots of fun! I pelted off toward galactic southeast and just held it down till the stars were a blur, heh, not sure I even topped out on the speed.
Oh, interesting!
(I mean I knew I wasn't really flying through space, heh)
I was terrible at this, but I enjoyed it!
The tilt was a bit wonky, I feel, and the "you got the right mushroom" sound seems a bit flat, but great idea, well executed.
I had a rough time understanding how to get this to work, probably a me issue.
I do really like the idea of building a life flow chart, though...kind reminded me of cult simulator?
Worked fine for me but I didn't get to see any other players unfortunately. Felt like the upgrades were pretty slow, and I was a bit disappointed the puddle didn't have cool secret fish, but everything worked and I liked the art style!
Came down here to second the HTML link is down
Ok, downloaded it!
So I have some issues, maybe the downloaded version is older?
Anyway, I can plant one seed who grows into a pretty cool walking carrot, but no other seeds ever appear.
I can watch him wander around or leap off into the atmosphere, but that is it.
Also character is like turned toward the left and the wasd assumes you are directly behind so it’s a bit tough to control.
Let me know if you get an updated build up and I’d be happy to revisit!
Thanks! I was able to get that one going now, and it is better (camera is over the shoulder) I was able to plant a few more carrots and it said I harvested enough! But I still got fired, heh.
Very nice one! Definitely could use something to change it up a bit but the sounds are great and the action is fun. I will say with the range on the chains I didn't see much point in moving, besides getting out of the holy light so I could see better, though perhaps that was the idea!
Really cool idea!
I think there is a lot of room to expand this idea too.
I love how many puzzles you came up with using the base concept, though!
I did have a bit of trouble with the controls but I've never been good at asteroids. I will say the few times pushing was needed I had a hard time with it.
Thanks all!
@fc85057 Clearly not just you on the tutorial, heh. Gonna try and sharpen it up a bit for sure.
@aoxian Lots of writing too, and pathing...ye gods. It was a LOT of work. Thanks for playing.
@jaonewguy Thanks! Yeah, working on the tutorial, really appreciate the heads up!
@SirLich Solid point about making it clearer when the game is starting, and glad you enjoyed! I had the same bug and it's apparently been a bit of a nightmare to track down. Thanks for the feedback!
@kodingnights Glad you enjoyed it, really appreciate it!
This is a real cool puzzler! Could use a bit of an intro, though I think I figured it out eventually!
I liked this a lot! Cool idea, well executed! Would like to see a version with some more twists if time ever allows for you!
The tutorial is quite good indeed. I did also have the sizing problem though so I couldn't actually get to things to actually play. Do let me know if it gets correct and I'll come back and rate!
Took me way too long to get past the first puzzle, heh.
Really captured the feeling of having a spyware infested computer in the early 2000s, heh.
Hmm....I got a 404 trying to pull it up here, is that just me? It ran on itch though
Anyway, I played it through to the end, it was fun! Not much of a point to the movement I have to agree.
And the story was kinda disconnected from the gameplay, and I will say I would have liked something to break up the waves of farmers.
But the controls are great, and I like the idea, maybe just something that would force you to move, like the soil can only sustain you for so long?
Very funny, voice work was actually decent, and the game was papers pleasey but very well done to be sure.
Pawns do not that work that way!
Otherwise I really liked this, as above, could use a you win screen for sure (and fix pawns!)
Really liked the balance of having to choose when to harvest things! The trick in the third level with no paths really threw me for a loop!
I liked the concept but I was having a hard time. I am still not sure what the jump drive does (it seems to just restart the game) but once I learned I could pick up monkey dusk I started to have a much better time, heh.
I like the concept here, though I honestly there's a bit of a disconnect between the idea that this is a reaper bot and your complete inability to do anything but stand in the way of tomatoes, heh.
Not insurmountable, but as it is it doesn't seem to mesh with the narratvie
So I like the idea here, this is really my type of game! But there is a lot missing, of which I am sure you are aware, heh.
- Need a way to attract more farmers.
Seems a lot of the upgrades are a bit pointless with otherwise. I know you said you can get them from events, but I didn't see any, and it wouldn't be as satisfying anyway.
- Game was too easy until it wasn't
I played through year 1 with no major issues, got several bad events but they just lost me a bit of wheat/coins, but then late in year 2 I got a single event that outright killed a pretty leveled up farmer dude.
- Nothing to do with resources
Maybe add a monthly cost to feed your people? More upgrades that people might actually want? An enemy outside random events?
Anyway, I did enjoy playing, just some thoughts on some improvements that you probably have already thought of, heh. Have a great one!
...no idea why it changed all my numbers from above to 1...changed to dashes, heh.
Nice story! A few minor errors and some misses on the rhymes, but super cute and funny!
Cool cookie clicker sort of vibe, but it felt really slow to me, and the upgrades seemed not to be terribly impactful.
Some more transparency would be nice, like more info on if there is a limit to how much fruit can sit waiting, and how much you have waiting.
Also, maybe have it increase the speed of the truck to click on the crops to load them, so there is something besides click on the crops to worry about.
Sorry if the above seems harsh, but just saw some areas it could improve. I really liked the work you did here!
Nice! Simple but smooth. I love the feel of the controls, just slightly confusing but definitely masterable.
I gotta say things escalated quickly, though, just straight to nukes. oof.
The camera was the true enemy here.
But I love the idea for the control scheme!
I dedicated myself to a certain approach early on and then regretted it later (though I stuck with it).
Well written, really enjoyed it!
Like the graphics a lot and the gameplay is fast paced and easy to understand. Definitely would like to see more complications, but really enjoyed it.
