LD52 — Harvest

Orchard Archer by icxon 2023-01-09T23:04:26Z

It was super satisfying to shoot around with the arrows. For me, it was the combination of gameplay + sound FX/animation.

I was a bit lost at the beginning wondering what to do after the first objective. I checked the first NPC out of curiosity to get the key. Perhaps I missed it or I'm just terrible at reading instructions, but I could imagine a lesser-experienced gamer getting stuck longer.

Great game!

Harvest Timing by Pennycook 2023-01-10T04:14:34Z

Reporting from the nudist colony:

Cute graphics and very stardew-feel (as you've described!). It is quite difficult and the movement may be a bit slow for impatient gamers, but for those willing to calm down a bit, the idea can be quite rewarding.

Thanks for also being very thoughtful/helpful with your comments on my game

Grow Golf by torcado 2023-01-10T02:48:30Z

This is so cool, innovative, smooth and easy to get into. Big fan of it :sunglasses:

Boat by pndaa 2023-01-10T09:22:51Z

This was fun, and soothing :)

A Day in the Life of Death by DDRKirbyISQ 2023-01-29T00:11:19Z

This was so depressingly hilarious, loved it!

Mermaid Treasure Quest by gamerjenn 2023-01-10T18:26:34Z

Lovely art and music!

One thing I noticed - the collision for the treasure chests weren't consistent. Sometimes I was hitting them a bit further away, and sometime I was clipping them, but didn't get a score for it.

Flavors of Victory by Kyrio 2023-01-25T02:39:25Z

Very fun, and one of the more unique concept playing well with the theme. Art and music really stood out!

...Also, not said enough, but A+ for the concise, clear instructions in the description, with the diagram too! Makes it so much easier for a new player to get into the game.

Harvest Day by Linus Lindberg 2023-01-09T19:11:23Z

The level selector cracked me up XD

For some reason, the inability to stack the fruits closer frustrated me as a player. But once I got around that, game was fun and quick enough to get into.

Grim Gardener by xfinktion 2023-01-10T09:25:20Z

Scythe-blink so cool! Epic music too.

Would be nice to have some words or tooltips to guide a new player at the beginning. But your description does a decent job atm.

Petra Rabbit's Carrot Chase by TheseusInABottle 2023-01-09T20:33:39Z

> My only gripe with this was the fact the there wasn’t more levels to play

Totally agreed

Loved it all, gameplay, audio, camera control. Only thing I would suggest is if you can update the description to emphasize playing game in full screen. Was frustrating when clicking off game-screen accidentally and wondering why my camera wasn't moving.

Music stuck in my head now thanks...

Lovely art. Agree with first commenter about the tutorial being a bit unclear.

Also bug reporting: In tutorial, hitting 'S' will bring up another dialog (maybe it restarts the first dialog?)

Cookie Typer! by Minos_L2b 2023-01-10T09:18:56Z

Wish I had this instead way back, learning how to type lol

4 Souls 2 Reap by Kepsert 2023-01-09T22:55:48Z

Wow. Amazing game, loved pretty much everything about it from top-to-bottom.

What stuck out to me: The level design. Esp in such a short amount of time. I knew I was in for a treat already by the 2nd level. Do you have any strong recommendations on level-design guides or tips? Or was this just a matter of experience?

Have to be really nit-picky for criticism, but if I dig deep, here are a couple: - For some reason, when transitioning from left<->right movement, it doesn't respond intuitively. It is slightly fast. - The black load screen. For a long load, instead of a black loading screen, perhaps add something to create an illusion of a faster loading time. - When getting scythe throw, it didn't mention slow-fall. Perhaps I missed the screen that taught me how to do it, but if I wasn't an experienced gamer, I wouldn't have tried out diff key combos or checked the pause screen.

Again, amazing, I think I'm gonna hop back on it later to try more

> Mind sharing what engine you use? Perhaps I can give you some pointers! I’ve actually been thinking about doing a little level building tutorial- for the last 2 years, but never got to it. I should do that one day.

@kepsert I am just starting out with Godot, used it for this jam. I'm trying to be engine-agnostic so any pointers are nice. A level building tutorial would be sweet!

> For the transitioning movement, I’m not sure what you mean?

Sorry it's a bit hard to describe, but it's just when I'm moving left, and then switching to right (right away). So the switching of the immediate movement.

> Short yes, but a really nice foundation to build open. There isn’t much, but I like what I see.

Agreed with this comment! Did you draw the art and make the music yourself? Enjoyed both.

Bearly Fitting by jamdong15 2023-01-10T17:58:16Z

This was nice to quickly jump into and exercise the puzzle-solving muscles :) esp with the relaxing music, kind of envisioning this style as a daily-crossword replacement every morning. Nice job!

Reap What You Sow by Ninten7 2023-01-09T23:00:01Z

Fun gameplay. The green reaper adds some (good) stress.

One thing I found was sometimes I was wondering why I died. It didn't seem like I was being hit or was too far -- perhaps the hitbox is too lenient?

Dice Wheat Me by Joe Eric 2023-01-10T04:21:32Z

Wow this is super impressive. I'm not sure if you've ever played the ported version of Agricola, but I got those vibes immediately with the music, soundFX, color theme, popups.

I'm not sure if I can provide much constructive criticism here -- perhaps with more time, you would have been able to have more tooltips/animations to make it more apparent for a novice gamer on where to go + what to do? But that's asking for a lot more on top of what's already delivered

Imp by Savidiy 2023-01-10T18:35:06Z

Cool concept! Easy to grasp and jump into.

- Would have liked to see the required ingredients somewhere accessible or visible, so I didn't need to remember from the sorceress. - Some soundFX + music would have given it the extra "oomph" unless it wasn't playing for me

Alien Fruit Harvest by kossnocorp 2023-01-09T19:14:21Z

Loved the music, sound fx -- those stood out to me amongst other things like the colors, art.

It would be more fun and slightly less frustrating for me as a player to be able to control movement mid-air. Wonder if that would affect your intended difficulty though. Great game!

Honey Harvest by Lukas Boersma 2023-01-10T02:40:03Z

This is such a cool concept, and my competitive blood is already boiling. Did you borrow any inspiration on creating this?

Thrown Harvest (for LD52) by matimat 2023-01-10T02:42:41Z

Very cool and creative concept. But I was a bit confused at the beginning. For some reason, it felt like I was supposed to wait for something to load. And then it wasn't immediately apparent I had to go down to grab the colors.

Once rocking, the game is pretty intuitive.

Heartvest by jaonewguy 2023-01-09T20:36:12Z

@kossnocorp thanks for playing :laughing:

@linus-lindberg thanks for the feedback! What would have made it less clunky? Movement speed was at a constant rate without running, perhaps a small lead-up acceleration?

@Fromage thanks for the feedback! The lose condition smoosh is unfortunate, probably sleep-deprived and didn't notice it, but I swear it wasn't smooshed while testing...

Heartvest by jaonewguy 2023-01-09T20:37:34Z

@lukas-boersma @matimat thanks, glad you enjoyed it

Veggie Harvester by NaNixDev 2023-01-09T20:26:09Z

Poor veggies :(

Echoing the sentiment that some direction at the beginning would be helpful. Perhaps an arrow guiding the player to the left. SoundFX would've added that extra oomph to eliminating those veggies XD. But the music vibes helped with the enjoyment.

Dreizehn: Grim Harvest by ScriptMage 2023-01-10T18:22:48Z

Hey this was the coolest game preview image I've seen so far. So I already came into the game page feeling pretty good about it  Love the art, music; gameplay is crisp. Easy to jump into!

Some feedback/observations: - I got to about 2k, but there were a couple of long periods without red souls. Perhaps I ran into bad RNG, but perhaps ensure that doesn't happen? - I'm sure you've thought about this already, but the difficulty needs to be up'd at some point. It took quite awhile to get to 2k, but I was waiting to see if the difficulty progressed. Guessing it didn't have time to be implemented :P - Having a keyboard button other left mouse click would have been nice for attacking! Didn't wanna leave the keyboard to attack
