I tried playing it but the itch.io page says that the developer hasn't uploaded a game yet ;_;

zacharypinkham 2023-01-09 23:36

@artofluba Sorry about that! Give it another shot, it should be working now!

boxedmeatrevolution 2023-01-10 02:03

I couldn't figure out the rules, so wasn't able to get past the savoury knight. I was sure that my watermelon celery lemon should be able to beat it, but it couldn't, and any other combintaions I tried didn't seem to work either. The presentation was really good though, I loved the little comic that led up to the reveal of whether your knight succeeded.

murmure 2023-01-10 09:15

Good game ! I had to take note about the different types for the button help don't work. It's a little bit difficult to know which knight will do the job. For the first fight I just put two tomatoes and a coconut, but I didn't get the logic for this fight. The others are easier.

Eveything else is just so cool. I really love the visuals, the animations and the music. Good jobs guys, go on !

kultuk 2023-01-10 15:14

Great Art, Great Audio, and overall great idea!

The only problem I had is that it's not really clear, from inside the game, how to win.

Still had a lot of fun. Awesome work!

huozhedexiaoc 2023-01-10 15:20

The perfect circus music and novel painting style make me constantly try different combinations.Got a bit confused at the start, but once I understood what’s going on, it’s rather good.

tevin 2023-01-10 15:20

Great art and audio! Its really hard because at first you have to learn the rules described here. My suggestion is to add more tooltips or other indicators to show what could beat the opponent.

durkagames 2023-01-10 15:21

It's pretty cool game, where you should be able to logical thinking. Be ready to spend your time to improve your... soup-Knight?

Thank you, authors, we like it.

togo-sepultraut 2023-01-10 15:21

fun sort of math-y game. once you get the hang of it, it just takes a minute to find the winning combination. i like that you get a different vegetable knight depending on what you cooked, i wonder how many there are.

yamzho 2023-01-10 15:28

Great game ! The overall ambiance of the game is great ! :) The combination of art, music and sound design is nice, and it does serve the story well. The gameplay concept is nice and well implemented. Great job !

morpheyz 2023-01-10 15:30

I love this game! The art and the music are incredible and I love this twist on rock-paper-scissors. My favorite parts are the customized characters that depend on what you build. The game feels very polished already, especially for a jam game! I could imagine more levels and mechanics, like buying new plants at a market, which you can use in subsequent challenges. Really good job, I had so much fun playing this!

P.S: I first had the explanations of what beats what open on another screen, but then I noticed that the order in the UI shows that information too, nice!

lerg 2023-01-10 16:12

Really nice concept! And the art is beautiful!

kyrio 2023-01-10 16:22

@togo-sepultraut Thank you for noticing! There are 16 knights, and the one you get is determined by the stats of your soup. That wasn't easy to do but it's worth it!

kyrio 2023-01-10 16:29

@morpheyz Haha you're right, I made sure to put the stats on screen in the right order. The Help button was supposed to show the rules, but we ran out of time - that's also why there isn't a proper tutorial to ease you in. I'm glad you enjoyed it regardless!

ss9 2023-01-10 22:27

I thought that was a really cool game! Very unique, and definitely requires a bit of thinking to do well! I loved the music, and thought it fit very well! Overall, quite a fun game, nice job!

chlu 2023-01-10 22:35

Great combination of the art style with the game concept.

stevencolling 2023-01-10 22:38

Both the illustrations and the music are amazing, well done! Especially those little comic strips representing a battle are just great! :D

thesmellofoxygen 2023-01-10 22:42

Love the music and art, as well as the idea of cooking up a warrior with custom stats, but the gameplay was pretty boring since it just involved always picking the food to beat the enemy stats with no way to influence it after. I did very much appreciate that the grid layout of the food selector and stat page aligned with the rock-paper-scissors layout so I didn't need to consult the tutorial page more than once.

serpo 2023-01-10 23:04

Awesome game! The art is fantastic and the paper-rock-scissor puzzle game play is fun. I would've liked more UI sound effects the music completely makes up for it. It is fantastic and evokes kitchen prep sounds and the fanfare/reveal audio is superb!! I love all of my weird little food knights and the sweet taste of victory! I did it.PNG

exofrenon 2023-01-11 00:11

This was extremely professional. One of the most polished LD entries I have tested, ever. The visuals are out of this world, several leagues above anything else. The music was also really fiting. I loved the world that you created with the vegetable knights.

The idea of the game is quite interesting, but I couldn't quite get the rules of the game. How does a stat attack another one and how is the rock-paper-scissors logic played into it? Does each "taste stat" of my champion attack all the other "taste stats" of the other champion (3x3 comparisons) and then we add up how many times I won and lost? A better explanation with a fully explained example of a battle with all calculations taking place would be welcome.

Overall, the art and music of the game are outstanding, and the idea is solid. I would say that this has the potential to become a full fledged game, or even a mini game for a larger game.

v0odo0 2023-01-11 04:34

Everything is so smooth it's hard to believe it was made within three days. 5/5!

eddrw 2023-01-11 04:56

I absolutely love the food/kitchen themed music and the art. And the comic strip fight sequence. And waiting and looking forward to what kind of knight was cooked up!!

chompdev 2023-01-11 05:20

Excellent work on the art and music! The gameplay is solid and I really like the strategy of choosing the best ingredients but trying to have enough left over for the next round. There are a lot of cooking games out there, but yours feels unique with the chef-vs-chef competition and rock-paper-scissors rules. I also like how satisfying it feels to just grab food with the mouse and throw it in the pot. Very simple and intuitive. Great job on all of it!

kyrio 2023-01-11 11:27

@exofrenon Thank you so much! It's a balance we had to hit, the game might not be very surprising if we break down the entirety of the battle system. It was supposed to ease you in by having a few simple fights with only certain ingredients, then moving to the full system and sometimes not giving you the full intel on enemies. More importantly the battle screen was meant to have a scoreboard. Unfortunately time got in the way, so it's a little more opaque, which is why we explained the rules in more detail on this page. Basically, every stat of your fighter attacks only the stat it "beats" in the rock-paper-scissors, if the enemy has that stat. Then it's the enemy's turn. Each stat victory gets you a point, and we compare your score to the enemy's (a draw is considered a defeat). Hope that clears it up!

@v0odo0 I'm really glad to read that, because it took time to develop the system so integrating the visuals to make it a "real" game really happened in the last few hours!

@chompdev I was actually worried people wouldn't think of dropping ingredients above the cauldron, which is the most fun way to do it! You can also drag it all the way to the pot, but it's less bouncy.

Thanks everyone for the feedback!

lex 2023-01-11 11:33

Isn't there an ending? I played like, a lot of rounds waiting for something to happen then I realized there might not be one :P

Still the game was fun, it's well polished and executed. Congratulations!

lawrence 2023-01-11 18:12

I fount this on itch first, and didn't read the rules, somehow managed to win a few rounds going by gut feeling  But then read the rules and it made a lot more sense  Very innovative and pretty game, good job!

artofluba 2023-01-11 19:42

Really nice visuals and gameplay, though I was confused at first because I need more coffee apparently. Haha.

roroto-sic 2023-01-12 17:54

Great mood , very funny knight ! Arts and Audio are fantastics :) Interesting remaster of Shifumi :)

pikkufighter 2023-01-13 08:32

Took me a good while to actually understand the mechanics, would have been nice for the help button to work. Otherwise its a really really good entry.

annie-owl 2023-01-13 08:40

Great game! You've done a great job on all the art. Experimenting with different ingredients and looking at all the different results was lots of fun! The music and sound effects are also fantastic. All the noises, stove clicking, clanging of knives and sounds of vegetables getting cut made me feel like I'm on a real cooking competition

hayricakir 2023-01-13 17:59

5/5. Perfect graphics, audio, game design and musics. Good job!

martenscedric 2023-01-14 19:30

The graphics are just amazing, wow

sakura-magika 2023-01-14 20:06

excellent job! i think you've hit all the marks here. the visuals are especially delightful, gameplay is the perfect balance of simple to understand, but engaging.

i only wish your rock paper scissors charts could be integrated into the game itself somehow, even just a little hotkey to bring it up as an overlay for reference, but that's a minor nit.

also, maybe showing a bit of the math behind what determines the win or loss. for example, in the battle that got me, i really thought i hard crafted a proper recipe to beat the opponent, and i'm curious to know why they defeated me.

anyways, great work!

i got clobbered by this guy... Screen Shot 2023-01-14 at 12.02.50 PM.png

gizmolo 2023-01-14 20:18

What a creative twist to the rock paper scissors formula! I was struggling at first but finally got the hang of it. It seems like the "Help" button in game didn't seem to do anything? But I was able to refer to the manual from the LD page. Great work!

kyrio 2023-01-14 22:10

@sakura-magika Yeah sorry, showing the rock/paper/scissors model is exactly what the Help button is for, but we ran out of time to make it happen, as @gizmolo noticed. That's why I made sure to show the stats in the right order from top to bottom, it serves as a reminder.

For the details on who won and why, I actually made a simulator that prints all the calculations for a battle (so we could test our formula). But we weren't sure how much we wanted to tell the player, and in the final rush we just went with the assets we had and made a more simple battle screen. Actually in some cases the battle ends in a draw, but it's considered a defeat.

sakura-magika 2023-01-14 22:20

@kyriom mm yeah I can understand wanting to hide details from the players, my game also has a somewhat complex simulation running behind the scenes, but i hid too much from the player in the first version which lead to misinterpretation, confusion, and frustration. It’s a hard balance to strike especially in a jam with so little time to test.

vidarn 2023-01-14 22:39

Fantastic art and presentation, the game felt super polished and professional. I especially liked the cartoon presentation of the battle results, and the fact that there were characters for so many of the combinations of ingredients.

she-wrote 2023-01-15 05:43

Every fighter is adorable and creative looking, the fights are awesome. The mood is wonderful! The art is great! Well done!

shess 2023-01-15 10:17

An incredibly entertaining game that put a smile on my face thanks to its sheer cheekiness :3 The graphics is right on the crossroads between wholesome and haunting (reminds me of early 2000s cartoons), and the music was RIDICULOUSLY good. I mean, seriously, what the hell, that's pro tier!

I know you probably had to cut a lot of corners, working in such a tight time frame (I understand the pain of it all too well, trust me), but the final result is still amazing, so please don't worry about it!

sephowepho 2023-01-16 04:41

Real nice entry, good job! I'm gonna keep it simple, because it looks like my suggestions have already been suggested multiple times, so instead I'm going to bring up my *personal* findings for the game -- Already, the idea of a strategic multi-layer game of *"rock paper scissors"* sounds amazing, and in practice, it works really well! Though I also found an exploit that made it impossible for me to lose ()! The game itself is super well done, with my only problem with it being the simplicity of actually *winning* the fights themselves. I found that because I can see exactly what the enemy is composed of, it's really easy to (instead of looking at the finished stats and deciding what combination of veggies to choose) look at each individual ingredient and putting it's counter into your ingredients list; like tomato always beats celery, carrot always beats lemon, etc... As long as you counter each ingredient *specifically*, there's no way you can be beaten; and while I'm not sure *exactly* how this problem would be fixed, I think it's an important one to bring up! But that's it from me, I think; have a nice day!

matank 2023-01-16 05:32

Really cute game! I loved the art and the concept was fun. I wasn't sure about the game itself - given the chart of who beats who I pretty much managed to beat the opponent every time so I wasn't sure what the challenge was (maybe I was supposed to find out the chart by myself with experiments?) Still had fun with it!

deathbysnail 2023-01-16 13:23

Great audio work, sounds fantastic. Really interesting take on the theme, and the whole mood and theme comes together really well!

asfdfdfd 2023-01-16 17:33

I had an appetite while playing, ha-ha

caeonosphere 2023-01-16 22:21

Great art, love the character designs! And man, I do love a good food-themed game. It was quite easy, since you can always see exactly how to beat your opponent. I wonder how to make it harder though... always tricky to make a rock-paper-scissors game harder without just making it more random. Well done! :)

tweekstudios 2023-01-18 21:32

Absolutely incredible art for this game! It's such a clever idea, using rock-paper-scissors etc.. really well done!

kikiriki367 2023-01-20 02:31

It has amazing graphics! Really jazzy music! An innovative gameplay that i really liked! It also reminded me of my old days before i became famous on that show! Ahhh the simple cooking days! It was a bit hard to understand the recipes and how they work. But as a professional chef i am i figured a special recipe of mine! It seems that the best strategy is to copy your opponent but just do it 1 level above.. So if they have "savory 2" and "crunchy 1", you go "sweet 2" and "squishy 1". Its a shame that once figured out its all simple cooking, that i hope gets to be a bit more complex. But god knows i still played just to see all the different meal looks! Great game i enjoyed it very much! :))

weefairyfabi 2023-01-20 11:47

This is amazing! From the music to the mechanics it all goes so so well together and the amount of detail you have put into the art is absolutely amazing! I do love me a good food themed game hehe~

robobarbie 2023-01-23 00:39

this is a neat twist on a classic game. the art really is killer here -- mad props to the artists for really making this fun game shine!! i especially loved the bg in the cooking section. great energy!!

jaonewguy 2023-01-25 02:39

Very fun, and one of the more unique concept playing well with the theme. Art and music really stood out!

...Also, not said enough, but A+ for the concise, clear instructions in the description, with the diagram too! Makes it so much easier for a new player to get into the game.
