Hah interesting game but it seems it's like a pure random what will your opponent get. Just like real RPS. Good graphics and overall design. It will have a potential if you add some new mechanics Rate my game pls too

Neat idea - I liked the persistence between rounds of what was available to you. Fun to watch it play out. I think with some post jam polish this could be an interesting mobile game - all the best with it!

spice-cabinet 2022-04-06 01:05

An interesting idea for sure. I found it really confusing at first because all the champions pile on top of each other in the center. But if you only do one or two at a time then you can almost tell whats happening. Could be a great time with a little more polish.

frozenfire92 2022-04-06 01:07

Interesting take on the classic. For 12 hours you got a decent amount done! The camera at the start was disorienting (and the shake as it moved to center annoying). Otherwise it seems like you could expand upon this as a dice/gambling/idle-group kind of game. Keep on making games \o/

So I think the arena can end once all the competitors are gone. It seemed to wait the same amount of time no matter what. Also, I think since the opponents are infinite your best strat is probably to just choose one at a time. ANyway, I like the general concept...maybe you could add powers, or even just a formation to put your "troops" into?

conduit-games 2022-04-06 03:04

Neat idea. The timer based ending could be addressed, but the idea is cool and I didn't get sick of the booming "Begin".

silverlybee 2022-04-06 14:11

Liked the concept and idea. I didn't understand what was the goal or what was happening at the start but once you get the hang of it it's easier. Maybe making it more clear or having them separate instead of bundling at the middle would be nice.

b3b0 2022-04-06 18:35

Very interesting idea. This could be a really fun concept when it gets a bit more refined. I didn't feel like it was communicated very well whether or not I was winning, or when the rounds would be over. Overall this game has a ton of potential as a mobile game. Cool stuff!

samburton 2022-04-06 22:06

It became monotonous quite quickly but I liked the concept and the camera movement in particular

andreia 2022-04-07 05:00

I liked the base concept. It was fun to play for a few rounds but I wasn't sure when I was winning and if there was an end game? Would be interesting to see where you can take the core idea. I think it could be an interesting mobile game like you mentioned. Great work!

bastienre4 2022-04-07 12:40

Interesting concept, lacks a bit of polish but it's a smart take on the rock paper scissors.

trigrab 2022-04-07 19:24

Liked the idea, but did not understand how I can win. The champions seem to be in a random order. So I can never know how to win. But maybe that's the unevitable, that you cannot win :D

dangerbleistift 2022-04-07 19:26

Did not really get it :(

zozol 2022-04-08 09:50

funny idea, wish there was some conclusive ending to the game though (or maybe there is?)

hmightypirate 2022-04-09 18:25

Well, I wonder if there is a best strategy that being completely random. Maybe adding some information of what comes next would add more depth to the game.

piotrax 2022-04-09 18:32

Funny concept, don't get the gameplay completely, but for game jam it's nice.

skleembof 2022-04-09 19:06

This seems like its really close to being fun but its just short of being a fully realized game. Since all the fighters just meet at one point in the middle of the arena, it's hard to tell whether you're winning or losing, especially since they're all the same color. Maybe making the enemies red and your units blue would remedy this. The total lack of a score counter also doesnt help

There's also no real strategy since the enemies are just completely random which I guess makes sense since its rock paper scissors.

With some polish you could turn this into a unique autobattler where you pick your troops and their lane before each match. You would essentially be playing multiple games of rock paper scissors at once, but you could allow the player to upgrade their troops, or maybe buy more troops per lane to increase the chances of winning.

Also, I was going to say that I liked your logo but it looked familiar so I checked your LD page and saw that I already commented "Awesome logo!" on your LD 47 game lol

Thanks to everyone (@skleemboffor, @zozol, @trigrab, @bastienre4, @andreia, @b3b0, @silverlybee, @spice-cabinet, @frozenfire92, @lachlan-james) for the comments so far. I'd like to address a few of them.

Being that it is rock/paper/scissors, it is going to be random for your opponent. Since the theme was "delay the inevitable" I set the opponent to have unlimited resources to fit the theme. You are always going to lose, it's just a case of how long can you hold out.

If I wasn't using that theme then you and the opponent would start with the same pieces and depending on how well you do there very well could be winning scenarios for you as the player. There will still be the random element however in the "non theme version" you would be able to work off that randomness to determine a pattern. For example, let's say you send in mostly rocks and you win most of the fights. That means that you went up against mostly scissors (wins) and rocks (draws). So it's safe to assume the opponent might be heavier in papers (since they would have won any of those fights) and rocks (draws) and lighter in scissors (since your rocks would have beat them). The strategy now becomes trying to select from your pieces in later rounds in order to have an advantage. If I think the opponent is now biased in pieces towards paper I'd be better off sending in scissors.

Of course right now it's just a simple AI, but if in an online version you're up against a human opponent, then they would be considering the same with your pieces and might go all in on rocks assuming you're going heavy on scissors.

There will still be randomized match ups but what I really envisioned was everyone rushing to the center, then just one from each side "entering the ring" to fight it out. Basically a quick animation on each side with one being attack and the other being losing. For example when the paper snaps to attack the rock might crumble to a pile of dust. After that few second long fight the next two would enter and repeat until that round is over. You get back any pieces that won or drawed, and lose any that lost.

The whole vision is not possible for a single developer to create in the time limits and constraints of a jam but I find these very useful for testing out core ideas for possible future fully polished games.

Interesting idea.. I like the model for the scissors and the ominous "begin" at the beginning is entertaining ! The only thing it is missing is any type of strategy. The game has potential for sure but in the current state it feels a little dull. It is just a game of chance. It is a little entertaining to watch them all rush at each other, but they all meet in the middle and you can't really tell what is going on. Sorry for the overly critical review. Thanks for the game !

This was an interesting concept! Rock Paper Scissors games are always a really fun concept, I love seeing how people can change such a simple game. Like what everyone else said, I would have enjoyed having a little bit more strategy, by the end (round 19 for me) it really felt like I was just doing the same thing over and over, and having that little bit of strategy would be nice. I'm unsure how to incorporate that with RPS, but I'm sure there is a way. The other small thing was that having everyone rush to the center was a really nice visual, but I think it would have been nice to have some variation in where they run to, as it ended up being a visual clump of models and I couldn't quite tell who won or lost. Overall though this was really interesting, and I think you could develop it and make something really nice!

fredrik-rosell 2022-04-11 12:45

Neat idea! I kept thinking that there was more strategy to it, that I was simply do dumb to grasp. Would love to see where this could end up with a bit more work.

robbzenone 2022-04-15 18:39

The enemies should have different colors :) At all it is a fun idea
