I think this is a typical really difficult game: everything kills you instantly.

gabbeeder 2021-04-26 19:50

@jeremia That's pretty true. I started off by making the enemies and then realized that they didn't really work at all with a health system. And now i didn't have enough time to redo enemies to fit a health system like that... It's getting late in Sweden, and I have school tomorrow.

gimbalock 2021-04-26 19:52

Good job for your first jam ever! smooth controls and good level design. I enjoyed playing.

gabbeeder 2021-04-26 19:59

@gimbalock Thanks! I started a bit late so I didn't have time to come up with a more fitting game for the theme. But at least the jam encouraged me to make a game!

hilkojj 2021-04-26 20:10

Nice work, the shooting sounds and feels satisfying. However, respawning with Z does not work for me, and the shooting sound still plays when I'm dead and pressing X

gabbeeder 2021-04-26 20:13

@hilkojj That's weird... I'll have to look into that.

robbzenone 2021-04-26 20:18

Nice game but hard. Noticed that the Enemies seems to be different fast on different machines :)

luciddh 2021-04-26 20:25

I feel like this game is way too hard right away. There isn't really that much of a difficulty increase since everything kills you right away and the camera is too zoomed in to see anything that's going to come and attack you. I think what you could do to to improve is make the enemies a little easier to see and make them a little slower. I'm a huge fan of platformers but the jumps that are super spaced out are too far apart. I really liked the movement and smooth camera movement though, so I don't have much to say about that.

gabbeeder 2021-04-26 20:30

@luciddh The enemies are faster on some computers, I'm working on fixing that now. I'm curious, on what level are the jumps too far apart?

adrien-dittrick 2021-04-26 21:09

This game is very cool-looking but I died a lot due to things I couldn't see below me, which is kind of a big deal in a game where you constantly go down :/

luciddh 2021-04-27 02:24

@gabbeeder I think some of the jumps in the beginning of the second level, and the huge gap in the third. If you were to make them easier, you should make one of the platforms one or two tiles longer in length.

gabbeeder 2021-04-27 07:18

@adrien-dittrick DId you enter fullscreen on itch.io? The viewport is smaller when not in fullscreen.

locustjin 2021-04-27 15:21

Good game, everything want to kill you hehe. Its even more intense when venturing deeper. Shooting is very smooth but game is quite hard.

szymon-ogd 2021-04-27 15:24

Dude, the animation of gun was amazing. Rest of the game is also crazy. Good job!

etrealjunior 2021-05-01 07:57

Congratulations on the delivery of the project within the stipulated time, I will make some observations when playing your project, 1 strong point your character he is very nice and charismatic, 2 shooting was very well done, 3 blood particles were good, 4 points to improve you can make a "Rage" style game of the player dying only for one hit, but after his death there has to be some action, be it reset the phase, go back to a checkpoint, because making the player have to reset by the browser does he gives up playing because he will die quickly and will not have the patience to do it all the time, continue his studies and evolve his project and soon he will reap good results, I was happy to find another user of the construct, a big hug at all, and I await your feedback regarding my game.

gabbeeder 2021-05-01 09:20

@etrealjunior Thanks for playing! The user can restart the current level by pressing Z when dying. Did that not work for you? I'll be sure to check out your game.

Nice game, got a lot of nostalgia from one of the first platformers I ever made. I can see the effort you can put into this, and despite the super fast bats on fast computers which I think you are aware of, I'll give you some polishing tips :) - Keep the music playing on level reset, it keeps a nice flow to games like these and considering how much I died, hearing the intro over and over was a bit jarring. - Smooth/fixed camera: Although I pretty quickly got used to it, the cameras movement was very fast for me, especially in the starting level. - Whenever the player is on the right side of a bat, they fly upside down, you can fix this by just flipping the sprite depending on if the players x value is greater or less than the bats x value.

Overall, this was a really fun experience, really liked the sound effects of the gun as well. Congrats on your first LDJam dude :D

triastase 2021-05-07 10:16

Congratulations on finishing your first jam! This is a fun little game! And a lot of content, with beautiful pixel art. Some more work on the controls (they seemed a bit indirect to me) and polishing that others mentioned, like the bats flying upside down or keeping the music playing when restarting a level would make it even better, but it's already fun to play. Well done!

mza 2021-05-07 10:27

A simple tried and tested formula thats a tonne of fun. The last boss was a good one with the right difficulty. The speed of movement is just right too. You could make it more challenging by adding more reload time, tougher enemies or more difficulty tiers. Hope you expand on this game with a tonne of more levels.

gabbeeder 2021-05-09 19:46

@cakts Thanks a lot. I fixed the fast enemy problems but I seem to have missed it on the bats. The bats also fly upside down as I didn't have time to fix that even though its a simple fix.

Again, Thanks for playing my game, It was a blast making it and I'm really happy that people are enjoying it even though it's far from perfect!

Really fun, challenging game! I liked the boss (the design and the fight itself) especially! The sound and music was great and the gun felt really nice to shoot, especially with the subtle screen shake.

Here some suggestion if you plan on working on it more! -coyote time jump -remove player sliding -more sound effects especially for enemy actions -variable jump height (maybe? it didn't seem necessary for how you set up the platforms, but I think it's still nice for platformers in general) -Timer + number of deaths shown at the end for ez replayability -the explosion of the lizard guys is awesome, but it looks dangerous. (reminds me of the wandering vagrant aoe attack in Risk of Rain 2 shown below)

Very straightforward and solid gameplay!
