Super impressed you managed to put out a tactics game like this for comp. Really love all the artwork, the characters are all super cute.

harrison-dunn 2021-04-26 13:16

That art is spectacular. The gameplay... needs work. But you knew that. I'm guessing this would sing with some SFX. Good job! Needing to hold space to advance more than one turn felt weird.

pookipoot 2021-04-26 15:42

Such a bold and big game to undertake in 48 hours. The fact that you put together a playable and polished cohesive TRPG in 48 hours is tremendous. The art style is fantastic. I enjoyed the overall theme and the ability to pick between characters. There's only so much you can get done in 48 hours, I think you made the most of it with the time allotted.

As far as game mechanics go: the only small things I imagine you could've added with the time you had was maybe to add damage numbers? This could help make the level progression stand out more as you progress further in the game. Can't wait to see more games from you in the future.

I was watching some of your streams as you made this, very very impressive work especially given the time constraints. Some notes from playing it: - The graphics are downright amazing. You sir are an excellent pixel artist. - Controls were definitely a rough point for my enjoyment. Hard to command granular orders. - Would highly benefit from visualization for your unit's action plans. - Camera panning felt awkward with mouse alone, keys were much better. Would've loved WASD controls. - Ability to dismiss notification overlays would be nice, they felt very "in my way. - I couldn't understand why some units could be recruited and some could not. - Holding space to move was nice, but the onset of the motion felt to slow (ease-in/ease-out felt wrong. A sharper attack that only has ease-out would feel better imo). - Having units show interactability on hover would be huge. - Seeing the remaining time before a unit can attack would be a nice-to-have. Overall, very well done given the constraints. I'd love to try the game out again when the playing experience feels more polished :)

I'm impressed this was made in such a short period of time. Some music would be nice, and the game feels monotonous after a while, but overall good game!

shawn-moore 2021-04-27 02:40

The graphics are amazing. But one thing I have to ask - what's going on with the arrows in Throneless? ;)

I think the idea very much has potential, I hope to watch you continue developing this game on twitch!

arya-s 2021-04-27 09:28

The art is amazing, as expected. I watched your stream and despite being thrown together fairly quickly I actually enjoy the opening theme a lot. The UI/UX is a bit confusing. The gameplay has a lot of potential, I'm looking forward to where you're going to take this game.

goldenevolution 2021-04-27 14:38

Apart from the issues, I'm still very much impressed with what you've managed to accomplish within the 48 hours here. Super cool entry!!

selenephy 2021-04-27 21:36

The game is amazing and I really love the idea of mixing a tactics game with a roguelike, you did a really good job! The art is great as expected from you and the game is a fun concept, but the controls are a bit rough (the camera panning could be faster and sometimes its hard to select units) and there's some bugs with the pathfinding of the enemies sometimes, but overall a really nice job in just 48H!

keithswanger 2021-04-27 23:48

Fantastic art as always. I really love the logo, and the intro presentation is great.

So many systems implemented... pathfinding, leveling, damage scaling, recruitment, spells... there's a lot to appreciate. Super impressive to include within the time frame, let alone implementing it in a freakin' 2D isometric game. Nice job.

pkenney 2021-04-28 04:26

You got an impressive amount done, and take heart that you made it playable! My head spins thinking about all of the features you completed: the ability to click into units, select spaces, issue commands, cancel back out of the menus, highlight the paths, the turn-based combat system, recruiting the party, map generation... it's just a ton of features, all done to a point where it can be played. Plus all of the very nice isometric pixel art!

Sorry the LD didn't go how you wanted, but it's a badass display of your skills just to get as far as you did.

This shit happens. I've done 19 of these things, and just a few LDs ago I overscoped badly and ruined myself, making my worst game ever.

cakts 2021-04-28 07:33

Enjoyable experience, wish there was some more audio so I could get more immersed

rawb 2021-04-28 08:59

Really cool concept and the art is fantastic

buyas 2021-04-28 09:03

Some of the best art in the whole jam!

poboy 2021-04-28 09:03

This is an incredible amount of work and the end product was quite good. Very beautiful game and I respect the ambition. There's just so much here.

I ran into one of the softlocking issues unfortunately, accidentally killing and recruiting someone on the same square as my crown holder.

softlock.png

Really quite an impressive game overall. On a side note, I learned a ton from your Youtube videos and wouldn't have been able to make my own Ludum Dare game without them, so I really appreciate all of the work you do there :)

corporation 2021-04-28 18:53

Pixel art is amazing without a doubt, very pleasing to watch. Controls are pretty hard to understand and maybe too minimalistic. Tactics games should probably come with more explanation of what is hapenning. Also I got stuck at some level becuase recruited units blocked me)

rob-parker 2021-04-28 19:38

This game is absolutely beautiful and the music sounds great. It's a shame that you weren't able to finish it in time but still what you produced is really well made!

andrewkennedy 2021-04-28 19:46

The controls were a little esoteric at first, but I caught on after stumbling through the first couple levels. After that, I really enjoyed it. I love the isometric design, and recruiting your enemies was super fun.

Some clearer controls and more signaling as to what the enemies were going to do would have gone a long way towards making this easier to pick up. I tried playing through a second time to level up my death rabbit, but alas, he was too squishy to survive.

Great job, I enjoyed playing this!

tom-robson 2021-04-28 20:06

I was really enjoying this, but ended up getting a pretty nasty bug where I just couldn't do anything? I guess my hero and the unit I just recruited were on the same tile and it bugged it? I really don't know.

But, from what I played: the art is incredible, as expected; the intro was nice; and the emchanics were interesting, and absolutely stuff I'd like to see more of.

Nice job!

rubiia 2021-04-28 20:32

This is really impressive considering the amount of time provided to create this. The game is pretty fun and great once you get the hang of it but I did encounter a couple of technical issues when it came to recruiting units (recruiting one caused my game to softlock sadly.) Furthermore as beautiful as the game was I felt there was a lack of sound effects to make the experience really.... pop? Aside from these few minor gripes it is still bloody impressive what you managed to achieve in such a short space of time ^^ Great work

thatmanrobin 2021-04-30 05:20

Loved it! The style was great, graphics were beautiful, and always been a fan of the genre. Did take a bit to figure it all out.

interface 2021-04-30 05:26

As usual the pixel art is outstanding. I can't believe the amount of content you put in during the jam (the art, the levels, the mechanics). My character had some lazy moments, when I selected an enemy for attack, a path lit up and I hit space, he would just wait for the enemies to come to him lol. I'm happy to see you're doing a post-jam game, this is very promising.

deadmanjw 2021-04-30 08:51

This is pretty amazing given the time taken although i did find a few issues right from the start. I was able to leave 2 of my party members behind and go to the next area with my night. Enemies seem to stack on top of each other. You had to unselect your character to select another character. Even still I would still play this game and would definitely be interested if you further develop this...nice work.

elendow 2021-04-30 18:59

The game is awesome, the idea and the visuals are cool. A bit hard at first because of balancing, but that's normal.

But I'll never forget that Reginald the Bunny died in such a gruesome way.

cekitian 2021-05-01 15:13

The art of the game is amazing! The only issue is the bug, making the game at times unplayable unfortunately. But for 48 hours this is a lot of work, congrats!

petitpois 2021-05-01 15:27

beautiful art, I watched a little of your jam progress on Twitch. You were able to accomplish so much in such a short time. you really have a gift for pixel art. Nice game, loved the isometric style, controls were simple and easy to understand. The only issue is at the beginning there was a nice atmospheric sound for the game but in the game there wasn't any sound at all, not sure if that's a bug or not. Anyway still fun to play. well done

sadsmile 2021-05-01 19:01

overely ambitious for a 48h. The graphics are awsome but the gameplay def. has suffered. Still a nice try!

my-name-isnt-bob 2021-05-02 18:24

Really cool idea, kind of hard to play.

purpledartfrog 2021-05-03 11:04

Came from your YT video.... to me this has huge potential  I do see your point that there are flaws in the mechanics - but again for 48 hours... impressive :thumbsup_tone1:

digital-bacon 2021-05-03 11:48

Great little game! Loved the graphics and gameplay. Opening music was nice, unfortunate that there was no sound in the game itself. Terrific entry!

automatonvx 2021-05-05 19:17

Great Art, couple of classic Unity weird tile seam issues though, not sure if you were using the Pixel Perfect Camera but I recommend it if not. Sadly the gameplay was a bit of a weak point, as others have said feels a bit clunky to control and the lack of options for what kind of attack to do took away from the strategic possibilities. As it stands there is not much point to the different level layouts since they play the same, run up to the enemies kill them, run to the exit, repeat. Maybe some sort of use of terrain to add strategic gameplay would be cool. Also really a shame you didn't get a chance to add more sound after title screen would have helped a lot for the atmosphere which to me is a quite a big part of a turn based game. Anyhow great work for 48 hrs but probably a bit on the ambitious side for the time.

animatrix1490 2021-05-07 05:32

I can see how much effort went into this. It's gorgeous to look at. I did run into gameplay issues, but game jams are like that :P

franklins-ghost 2021-05-15 14:23

The graphics in this are great and makes the game look so polished. Did have issues with the controls and selecting and moving my units.
