Looping music is realy unpleasant... Unfortunatly, i didn't understand how to pass the first level :/ could you add a little guide on the inputs on the page? I'll come and test it again later
Okay, thanks for the feedback! I will change the things you said :D
A little rough around the edges but I like the concept! Took me a bit to figure out how to do the first puzzle. Overall solid concept, just needs some bug fixing and polishing. Good job!
Yeah, this game really needs a control guide. The first jump seems impossible so there must be some mechanic I'm missing.
I like you subgames, however, it is good Idea to give some basic tutorial about mechanics.
I like the subgames and the music sounds good to me, however there should be some tutorial about the mechanics of the game. I died 10 times trying to jump across to the lever until I realized you could click on it. Although, you are playing as an AI learning, so maybe the point is just trial and error. Great game submission for you and your brother!
I also couldn't figure out the first level; just can't jump far enough over the spike blocks? Not sure what else there is to do.
Yeah, I think I could add a guide, you actually press a lever in the 1st level, but snowin is right, trial and error is the point of the game, I will try to update it when I have time.
Thank you so much for the feedback, guys, it really means a whole lot to me!
I like the idea interact with the mouse while you move around the level. It paves the way for more puzzle ideas that require simultaneous actions (whether near or far) from the keyboard and the mouse.
Like other people said there's no guide in game for the controls. But I only knew right away how to play because I saw your post about unclear controls. Little images on the background of the first level would suffice which would show arrow keys and a mouse with an arrow pointing to the first interaction.
I think the maze part was out of place.
Thank you marbles for the suggestions and your opinians, I will definately keep that in mind when I next update the game
Unlike the other players, I actually was able to figure things out pretty easily although don't use me as your basis. I'm not so sure why you made the controls for the maze directional buttons while the character is WASD. I would prefer to just stick to one button configuration for both. The game needs a bit of polishing but it was nice to finish! It's great seeing bros working together to make a game. Me and my bro used to work together too
@grizzliusmaximus, haha, yeah, it's not that polished, I ran out of time, that's why I couldn't write the instructions, I will definately do better next time, thanks for all the feedback, it's really great to see people enjoy and give constructive criticism.
Decent game considering you were short on time. Like others have said, some control guides or a hint in the first level would be handy. Great name though hahaha :D
I liked your game my congratulations, I also did one if you want to know, and give me your feedback I am very grateful, this is the link https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/47/resurrection
I think I got stuck at the first subgame. I just kept shooting but nothing was happening.
@ninnec, huh, did you see a platform appear? If so, you had to go and touch the green thing
@etrealjunior, sure!
I liked the idea, it took me a while to understand, I believe that most people also go through this problem, not in itself by the puzzle, but by the movement of the character that should be better worked, so if he dies he will be sure that he made a mistake and did not confuse with a game bug, congratulations and a big hug!
@etrealjunior, thank you ao much :D, it warms up my heart look at all these comments!
The core concept is interesting, and you were clearly eager to do a lot of things. There is a few glitches, I got stuck in platform a lot. Also, the maze is a nice touch, but it's weird that you have to use the arrow keys instead of WASD. Overall it's a nice little platformer with a few tricks. Good job!
I finished the game, nice game, there are some bugs I guess, but is fine
Pros * The music is nice * the levels are interesting
To Improve: * Add some tutorial * Do not have two pair of keys (I mean I can control the main character with WASD, but in the maze I you need to arrow keys)
I feel that this game needs a lot of polishing touches. It is not clear in the first level that you must also use the mouse to play. I didn't figure that out until reading the comments. It is rather jarring to have the music restart when the level restarts, considering that the first level is only 4 seconds long. There are issues with collision detection as the character can get stuck on the end of platforms. I couldn't figure out the maze level either, but I have now read in the comments that you have to use the arrow keys instead of WASD. Why switch? Finally, when restarting the maze level (the last one I tried), why does it go back to the previous level instead of resetting to the maze when every other level just restarts itself?
Having said all that, these are all things that could just be tweaked a little and likely wouldn't take much to fix. I did like the concept and am actually okay with the exploratory nature of discovering controls as long as they don't change once I have discovered them. Perhaps adding a hint that appears after the player has failed a certain number of times?
Regardless, the important part is finishing the game. The rest is just growth!
@toulou @james-dunlap @thomas-volpato, thanks so so much for the advice, I am not able to edit the game anymore, but I am so happy thar you all commented, I will keep that in mind next jam!
The core is layed down in a interesting way, however the game longs for polishing and better gameplay execution. I got lost on the 3rd level and couldn't accomplish it because I just didn't know what to do after labirynth stage and, because of probably wrong timing, I always only had 2-3 seconds after labirynth to do anything else. Apart from that rather easy bugs to fixes like non-blocking colliders on the edge of the screens or jumping and sliding collisions. I didn't know why you put maze-minigame in the game itself. It seemed out of place completely. Keep up the work though :)
Thank you =D, I will keep that in mind next time :)
Does your brother have a name, or does he have "mrchickenboy's brother" in his ID? :) Considering your workflow, it is actually rather an achievement that you have at least something playable, when you went with a new engine just for the jam :)
Getting platformer feel good is a lot of work even for skilled masters of craft developing full length game, so at least for me the platformer, though very popular, isn't an easy go-to genre, just because though it might seem simple, the proper, or at least plausible execution is pretty difficult. On the other hand, you have to start somewhere, you have to start somehow, what better place than here, what better way than LDJam :)
For further research I recommend GMTK's video about Celeste https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yorTG9at90g (but the whole channel is just superb).
As my playthrough went:
I was pretty confused what was going on in the beginning, as first I couldn't jump over the spikes, then I realized that there's a lever I can pull with mouse (that is not very common in platformers, mostly you have to get your character to the lever), so I pulled it, but it was too late and me and the box disappeared in the middle of the jump. Then it took me a while to get in sync with the timer, so I looped in the middle of the jump a few times over. But I calmed down, waited a bit and then got the timing right. Still I felt a bit confused, as the loop wasn't signaled in any way except for the change of the position. Some VFX would really help with this in my opinion.
As the first level was a pretty rough practice, I had no problems with succesive ones. I got stuck in the last one, where I thought there was a bug that I looped back from the maze, but soon I realized that the level is a tad bit different and that it is supposed to happen, then I waited again to get in sync with the timer and finished the game. What didn't cause me a problem, because I read the instructions, but cannot understand the reasoning behind, is why you have different control scheme for platforming and different for labyrinth?
Once it occured that the timer went to negatives and nothing happend. Also the character is able to do a wall hang, when you cannot make the jump on the first try, and then kind of wall jump again on the platform. As the character is lacking any animation, I couldn't tell, if it is intended behaviour, or just some weird physics/collision bug. It helped me to finish the game though, so I went with it :)
Solid entry, congratulations!
The timer was running faster than it was supposed to for some reason, so I could not finish the level with the maze. Nice game otherwise
@honey, Thank you ever so much for your detailed comments. I love the feedback I'm getting. As for your advice, I completely agree. However, not only was this a new sofware for me but also my first jam, so it wasn't 100% on spot. I mainly did it for practise and fun. As for my brother, well, he preferred to be anonymous :)
@kuviman, thanks! Yeah. I was in the stream, really confusing...
@mrchickenboy Maybe if you like the feedback, consider hitting the heart in bottom right corner of each comment to give some of the love back! :) And hope to see you next jam as well!
Thanks for submitting your game for me to play on my livestream!

Haha! Thank you a whole lot, means a lot to me!
@honey did it :)
Well done! For your first time using C3, you did really good!
(I'm not afraid to admit it, the first game I ever made with C3's ancestor, Construct 2, was really basic and not as good as this game!)
@peace-of-cake-games, thank you for the nice comment!
My wife liked the music, I started the game up and she came over to check it out :)
Haha, thanks!
Nice work! tell your brother I like his art
@pee-thief, thanks! I will do that!
