dunno about the loop but it sure broke my brain, it's neat!

ninnec 2020-10-05 21:36

Really great game! Very cool idea!

nbumgardner 2020-10-05 21:42

As a programmer I like the premise, and the programming seems really robust for displaying the correct console output for wrong answers. The music fits in well to with that zen feel, and I got stuck at level 3, but it was fun none the less.

@xedur From an Educator, really liked your concept, great work :)

keithswanger 2020-10-06 08:36

Really interesting game! The learning curve is a bit sharp right now, but it could really turn into a great educational game! Great job.

I loved this game. I was a bit burnt out on programming after Ludum Dare so I don't think I was the best player. I love the concept.

Great game about programming and loops. Nicely done.

ponywolf 2020-10-06 14:28

That's great. A fun little introduction to Lua!

saering 2020-10-06 15:39

Nice game! Just completed it, I wish there were more levels but the ones you've done were neat and had be think for a few minutes. I especially liked the one with the "Sub" function, I don't know exactly why I had trouble getting its point because I already knew "SubString" in C#, but that was fun to find out myself by trying things!

Really neat entry :)

hjalte 2020-10-06 15:52

Super fun! I feel like this could be a great learning game :).

Maybe you could've included a comment for some things. I got stuck on the sub-method, because C# uses a start index and length, while yours seems to use a start and end index.

Either way, great game :).

I loved this game. Even made me search what sub in lua does :D We were also considering a similar game but weren't sure how many non-programmers would understand how it works :/

turegrappa 2020-10-07 15:33

I love this game with programming lexicon. Good job

paulhocker 2020-10-08 01:30

i had to play this because my game had the same title. i really like the idea for a programming game and it was fun figure it out. nice job on the game.

raoz 2020-10-08 16:03

That was fun, wish there were more levels

jarvisp99 2020-10-08 16:07

You should build these games for mobile.....Very good format for students to learn and play with programming.......Loved it...

This!!! Is!!! So!!! Cool!!! Reminds me of Baba Is You, but only the puzzle part. It's actually kinda impressive that the code runs correctly for every wrong combination of code possible. Even if I never used Lua before, it was easy to understand what the code did and how to break the loop (having the programming language's name in the game itself was a great touch), the difficulty and fun was trying to fumble around with the pieces. This is really solid, I loved it a lot!

fluffygamedev 2020-10-08 16:39

Cute little game. The chill music is just perfect to solve the puzzles. I wish there had been more. But as you mentioned, making them was probably time consuming. ^^'

guimoliveira 2020-10-08 16:48

Nice idea. More levels pleeease. :)

tomate-salat 2020-10-08 16:51

Really cool game and it is really nice that the output matches the code. Was really fun to play! Please make some more levels :-)

madbeagle 2020-10-08 16:55

Ah, I got as far as the 'while do, end' premise and couldn't think how to make that into a game, nice one! I recognise you from the Corona forums (nick sherman), I haven't really been over to the Solar forums much, mostly been doing C64 games for the last year! :D

wendel-scardua 2020-10-08 17:45

Cool way to match the theme, there being even a "meta loop" from the last level back to the first :)

It just took me a few moments to get the `sub` function, but that's more a "me" problem; my first thought was substitution instead of substring because I use Ruby at work. Playing with the arguments and checking the output made easy to solve the level anyway (in hindsight I could've googled for lua docs )

aligator 2020-10-08 17:48

That's a really nice idea and implementation. This is definitely one of my favorites!

xedur 2020-10-08 18:10

Thank you all for your feedback, it's been a delight reading them!

@madbeagle Hey Nick! It's been a while! You should really pop by the Solar2D forums/Discord. Things have been picking up quite a lot since the engine went fully open source and there's a lot of interesting stuff going on. :D

That invitation applies to everyone else too!

cliffracerx 2020-10-08 22:09

Solid little programming game! Graphics were nice and retro, code easily readable, and the little wiggly snaps as you move blocks around were lovely. Music was low-intrusiveness and makes for a surprisingly zen atmosphere to debug to, and the little bleeps of success were nice.

Learning curve is definitely liable to be tricky if you've not spent years programming, but I had no trouble with it, and appreciated the meta-loop when you beat the last level. Great work!

kridotsuk 2020-10-11 10:56

I really loved how you took the word loop and turned into the while(true) loop. Great puzzles! I just got stuck at level 3 :P

narom42 2020-10-22 18:03

Nice game, made me think of baba is you :)
