Ok so I went to quickly rate one game during my work break and now I spent over 30 minutes playing your game.

I'm now at wave 41 and I'm gonna let it run just out of curiosity, how far can I get with my current setup :D

Interesting game. I liked the realistic AI, but it seems like it is trying to walk in between my towers, which makes it easy to build out a 'gauntlet' and slaughter them -- strange behavior considering they can damage/remove my towers when they touch them! And yes flamethrowers OP.

xjcl 2023-01-10 01:39

And a hint to other playtesters, the game is infinite, don't waste your time :)

Who doesn't love a good tower defense game?? These are so addicting. The art style is so cute (the goblin design is my fave) and I love the way you incorporated the theme! I can't believe you did this by yourself; this is so awesome. It would have been nice to have a bit more UI or a tutorial so that I didn't have to figure out controls/how to play on my own, but it wasn't that difficult. Overall, lovely game jam game!

junglerally 2023-01-10 14:44

Thank you all @xjcl @morgie @vrerabek ! Your feedback is much appreciated! I am so glad you enjoyed my game. The art is what I am most proud of, since that's usually my weakest skill. And the game definitely needs balancing, so currently it is extremely easy once you know how to play. Again, thank you!

jujus 2023-01-12 14:26

Nice little addictive game, nice graphics too. My only critic is that it gets a little repetitive too fast :(

junglerally 2023-01-12 16:09

@jujus Thank you for your feedback! Yes, the game is really repetitive and easy. Once the voting is over I will try to release an update with better balancing and more content.

matank 2023-01-13 05:52

Very nice tower defense game! I enjoyed my time with it but it got a bit repetitive after a while. Would be nice if there was some clear objective (e.g. "survive until wave X" so I would feel motivated to get to a specific target). The game UI feels very good and the art is really nice for a jam game!

junglerally 2023-01-13 14:43

@matank Thank you for playing! Would boss battles every x waves count as a good objective? I am thinking about how to improve the game by adding different towers and enemies, as well as balancing the game a ton. If I add some bosses that have scalable difficulty would that work as something to work towards other than the high score? I could also try to add an online leaderboard.

matank 2023-01-13 15:26

@junglerally yeah boss battles would've been great! Especially if it was communicated in the game somehow that the next boss battle is coming in X waves

Feedback

Game

A well made and polished tower defense!

It initially seemed pretty weird that money is deducted when a tower is picked up from the shop, instead of when it is placed, but then I noticed that towers could be sold for their full price, and it started making sense.

The gatling gun feels a bit weak compared to the flamethrower, especially for that price... Please buff it? ;P

Is it intended that the more towers you have, the less wheat grows and the less income you get? It feels a bit unusual for a tower defense game, usually you get more money the further you get in the waves...

Distribution

Thanks for **providing a HTML5 build**! Since I am playing on Linux, I appreciated it!

> Warning: Widescreen monitors not supported, play in a 16:9 aspect ratio.

What do you mean by this? A 16:9 monitor IS a widescreen monitor! Perhaps you meant to suggest the opposite (no 21:9 or 4:3)?

junglerally 2023-01-15 03:08

@steffo Thank you so much for the well-formatted feedback! I am glad you had some fun, and the points you made are valid and will be changed soon when I make the post-jam update.

The getting less money late-game was intended as part of a strategy, but with not enough time to make a bunch of towers it didn't really play out well I guess. (You were supposed to be able to sacrifice some towers to open up land for wheat to grow to get the better towers). And it is known by every player that the flamethrower is OP and the gatling sucks. I will be doing some heavy balancing soon.

And I am honestly not sure what the enemies are, I originally started with the shape of a medieval knight when drawing, and when adding detail it turned into some sort of gremlin-goblin thing. Devils is an interesting idea! Maybe I could add those in the next update as a boss.

About the resolution thing, I am honestly not sure. I have a widescreen main monitor that is 3440x1440(21:9) so I guess you are correct. I thought that mean widescreen, if 16x9 is widescreen, then what is 21:9 called?

Again, thank you so much for playing and leaving some great feedback!

steffo 2023-01-15 09:00

@junglerally 21:9 usually is called ultrawidescreen!

wendel-scardua 2023-01-15 16:06

Other than the balancing issues already mentioned, I liked a lot your idea of the resource (the wheat blocks) doubling as a weak wall, so the player has a reason not to always harvest them.

junglerally 2023-01-16 05:17

@wendel-scardua That was the goal! Thank you for playing.

chompdev 2023-01-22 01:48

Cool TD game! Allowing the enemies to destroy both towers and walls was new to me, and definitely a fun idea. I've played a lot of other TD games but usually they let you create a maze that the enemies just have to snake through instead of actually being able to destroy anything in their path, so this was a refreshing change of pace and really made me plan out my base and tower positions a bit differently.

I also liked that while enemies *could* destroy things, they'd still prefer to take the path of least resistance and essentially rush the far wall, if possible. The harvesting/money system was cool too, sort of like a variation of the PvZ sunflowers that you need to protect so they can keep producing. Great work on designing a TD that's fun, stable, and feels complete for a jam game!

junglerally 2023-01-23 14:49

@chompdev Thank you so much! I really appreciate the feedback and kind words.

Untitled.png Untitled1.png It seems like there some problems on the middle grid. The sprite on that will change scale sometimes which I thought is a durability before. Anyway, It's fun to play!

don-fouts 2023-01-26 04:39

This was a really cool take on the theme but also an awesome twist on the 'tower defense' genre. This was probably one of favorite entries to play for LD52.

kikiriki367 2023-01-26 11:19

I would suggest adding more hp to the enemies as the waves progress since they get one shot no matter how many of them there are. Also reduce the players money after placing a turret not buying, because if the player buys it and then right clicks to cancel placement, he only loses money. Apart from that its a fun game and the music reminds me a bit of Age of Empires which is great! Oh and also, i did it, he he...

junglerally 2023-01-26 16:32

@wendy222 Thank you for playing! The scale issue is known, it has to do with how the animations were made.

@don-fouts Wow, thank you so much! I didn't think the game would be good enough to be a favorite.

@kikiriki367 Thanks for the feedback! I already have a balance update ready for after the jam just so it's more fun to play for anyone who were to find the game on their own. Enemies will have more health, projectiles don't one-shot, and prices on things are different. I hadn't thought about that money thing though, I will see what I can do. Also... nice :)

xjcl 2023-01-28 16:41

Congrats on 447th! :)
