awesome sound design! I liked the idea of navigating what you can't see using sound feedback. Very cool. p.s. darqy might see better if he wasn't wearing sunglasses indoors :p

This was really fun to play! You don't see games of this type that often, and in my opinion, this was really well executed! I had a blast playing this one on stream, and thoroughly look forward to whatever else you may make in the future! It was a little confusing at first, but once I got into it (and stopped trying to brute force through the darkness) it was a blast! Also I loved the pac-man face!

Interesting concept, sadly my headphones suck, so I couldn't really distinguish where things were

natrist 2023-10-03 04:28

I enjoyed the game but I think the gameplay could have been more satisfying if I had been able to hold the keys down to move more easily.

castitatis 2023-10-03 10:59

you nailed the sound design, really good game!

jesse-j-jones 2023-10-03 15:04

Really fun idea! I had some trouble knowing when a monster was above or below me, but a really unique concept and cute pixel art! Nice job! :)

neon-kuroasa 2023-10-03 17:09

It's definitely something. The idea and concept sound nice, but once in game i found myself to be meandering either in no particular fashion, or i was going through the map very methodically. I would recommand adding some clues as to the position of the key and the door so that the player can progress towards an objective.

The mood was top notch, tho

Thanks for letting me play this on stream, it was awesome!

Cool stuff! I believe I reached level 4 or 5... it seemed as if the game looped, although maybe not. At any rate I liked that sort of "minesweeper in the dark" vibe I was getting. My ears are pretty bad at guessing how it was all panned, but nothing really felt unfair. Good work!

Thank you for making this. I finished the game and feel like I am on top of the world now! Was fun to play, interesting concept.

I did it. WARNING. This map is NOT accurate.

Cool game - made it to the end after a bunch of fumbling around :D Graphics felt like an early pokemon game but smoother, sound effects were great and the idea was really cool. Really really dug the locational sound - it was cool playing with heaphones. Kind of wish there was non-grid-based movement so I could ping around a bit quicker 'cause I'm impatient.

coro-yy 2023-10-04 16:55

Enjoyed that one, even though I've gotten a bit angry in level 4 (or 5?) :D The idea of the sound is nice and new, although it didn't always fully work. It sounded like left but it was right above or underneath me. But besides that, it's a really great concept and well done!

spike-studio 2023-10-04 18:43

Cool concept, was quite difficult lol. Overall nice entry!

juliestrator 2023-10-04 18:46

really enjoyed the main mechanic! loved the art! so stylish! really good audio! overall a very enjoyable experience! played the game on stream (twitch.tv/juliestrator)

I liked the idea behind this, however I do think the execution could be improved. It seemed to me that by the time you realize that you're walking into a monster, it's too late. I would have liked the audio cues to happen sooner to give the player enough time to react. That said, congrats on making your game! I look forward to seeing you in future jams!

spacecadet 2023-10-05 06:41

Simple yet satisfying gameplay mixed with puzzle elements. I liked it a lot

jvdwijk 2023-10-05 14:23

Hey hey, I really recommend using a tracking system like in minesweeper, for the rest very nice game!

flyingkaida 2023-10-05 15:28

HARD but fun game. I LOVE the, "MMMMM DELICIOUS" monster. I'll find all the doors and keys soon!!!

I feel there's a slight glitch with some walls? Feels like I'm walking outside of the map?

hawkin 2023-10-06 02:00

I really like the idea behind your game. Avoiding monsters you cannot see by using sound was a fun challenge. I would suggest two improvements.

1) Make the monsters audible from farther away This would increase the speed of the gameplay. Walking step by step, especially when you have to search the entire room for the key, is not as fun as it could be.

2) Indicate where the key is. Avoiding monsters in the dark is already a good challenge. If the key was always visible, the player would know where to go, just not how to get there. That would prevent them from having to search every square, which is not very fun.

An interesting concept but I found the lack of guidance for objectives pretty frustrating, the game is essentially trial and error with no direction or meaningful input from the player other than listening for foes and avoiding them.

Some neat variety in enemy sprites is nice, I saw a lot of unique enemies in my playthrough and the sound behaviour works pretty well.

Thanks for submitting the game to the stream! If you wanted to watch it again in the future heres the vod timestamped to your game

ricardobusta 2023-10-08 14:42

Haha super interesting concept. Loved the funny sounds the enemies make. It's a bit difficult to figure out the proximity just by sound tho, since the visuals are simple 2D.

matt-green 2023-10-08 18:10

Love the graphics! the sounds design is great. I think I ended up off of the map a few times by queueing up movement too quickly, but not a big deal.

I also found that the sounds sometimes didn't play at all until I was already on the creature.

But this is such a neat idea. There is definitely something amazing here.

adamcyounis 2023-10-09 07:00

Heya, thanks for sharing! I didn't understand the concept at first but once it clicked, I really liked this idea. I think the core design is pretty good, but struggle with some of the execution choices. Particularly, I think the levels could have been a lot smaller, with fewer enemies. As it is now, it's very hard to have the patience to explore a whole level looking for the key. One alternative could be to show in a very dark grey the areas that the player has visited, just to help eliminate the remaining space.

Other than that, I really enjoyed the sound design and the "jumpscare" element of running into a monster. Thanks again!

notinatal 2023-10-09 17:07

The idea in itself is very cool, but I don't particularly enjoy the execution that well. For me it is maybe a bit too frustrating to search on every single square to not find anything. Anything simple such as simple hints would do the trick for me. At the end, I just found myself going randomly and not even listening anymore. I believe though that with a little bit of tweaking, this could be a nice and interesting game.

Always a fan of audio-centric games like this. :) Nice job!

The sound design was really stellar!
