LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Cursed Hotel by mvasko2 2022-10-05T20:37:03Z

I really liked the core concept, and I appreciate some of the polish. What I felt was missing was either a sense of progression or rising stakes. Maybe if there was another task the employees could be doing when they werent fixing things. Once I got to 4 employees, I pretty much had the whole place covered and the income wasn't increasing.

The music was nice but got a bit grating after a few loops.

Really great bones here. This concept certainly has a lot of potential. Solid entry!

Chicken farm by Hadik 2022-10-03T04:40:06Z

The graphics are cute and the concept is pretty solid. I love tiny animal games but deniz-aras was right, it does get a bit unmanageable - which can be cool, but there's no benefit to the chaos, it just makes the game less pleasant.

Also, it seems like my game froze but I don't know why

Oxylunky by daandruff 2022-10-03T05:42:47Z

Easily the best game I've rated today. Took me 20 minutes to beat (and that required cheating). If I didnt have access to the source, I woulda played it all day.

The sound effects were sublte and set the mood nicely. The art was great. I loved the little roll effect on the diver to simulate swimming.

Such a great game. Jeez. No notes.

Second Chance by vipbasil 2022-10-03T01:59:40Z

I didn't expect to be reading! The rewind mechanic threw me a bit. Obviously I took the heaven option first (cause who doesn't want to go to heaven) but it was the end of the game. I restarted and tried the other option and also died. But I got to rewind! Pretty neat implementation of the concept.

Lots of room for expansion on the concept. I know it's a text game and maybe that's not really my thing but I would definitely play a more expanded, graphic novel version of this game!

Sheeple by Jonathan Holm 2022-10-03T01:20:28Z

This reminds me of a game from my childhood (in graphics/style, not concept obviously haha) but I can't remember which. I wasn't exactly sure what I was going for. I DID have fun bowling sheep!

Viam in tenebris by Bewelge 2022-10-03T17:49:44Z

I actually abandoned an idea because I wasn't sure I could pull it off and you pulled it off. The sound and lighting created a solid mood, but it did get a little repetitive after a while. I stopped at maze 6 or 7 so maybe there was more interesting stuff later. If so, it was a pacing issue.

1000 Meters to Shade by PBG 2022-10-05T20:15:03Z

The dithering in the sunset really made it feel hot. Magical.

Bug Out by wavertron 2022-10-03T02:46:27Z

I actually abandoned an idea like this early because I didn't think I could pull it off, and you Pulled. It. Off.

Very neat. The art gave me old Duke Nukem vibes.

The only gripe I had was that some of the exits felt nigh impossible to reach in 10 seconds, and then they'd move on reset, so it really felt more like I was just 'surviving' until an exit spawned near me. Or I missed something obvious.

Freight Frenzy by lbrande 2022-10-05T21:47:38Z

I REALLY enjoyed this game. The controls took a bit for me to master, but I found myself playing over and over. I know its a compo game, so Im okay with no sound, but I'm a huge fan of any game with dock/ocean sounds. I might play again and find a YT video to play in the background haha.

Solid entry, I'd love a full version of this game to play on the bus !

The CyberZapper by Vhalenn 2022-10-04T05:35:48Z

What a beautiful, confusing game! I had no idea what was happening at any given time. Was I damaging the enemies? Why did my weapon keep changing? What were those crystals I was picking up.

That said, I played for 16 levels because the controls were so smooth and the game was so pretty. I hoped I would figure it out before I won/lost but I also wasn't sure how to do that.

You have an incredible kernel of a game here and its clear you have a talent for ambience and graphics! Keep up the good work

Lab Rat by fnelix 2022-10-04T05:24:17Z

Very neat concept and I appreciate you going 3D for the compo, but the gameplay felt very slow. I got to level 6 and I barely did anything. I would love to see this concept expanded on! You've got a great start here for sure :)

Also, the character looked way too much like me, glasses and all!

Fight The Darkness by Ryan Ackermann 2022-10-03T01:54:22Z

I'm a sucker for games that play with light, so I was already on board.

One minor note, without reading the instructions, I saw "Press Space to Start" and assumed Space was a important key. I didn't realize I had to click to shoot.

Also, was it just an endless/highscore kind of game? I couldn't tell if I was progressing toward anything.

Love the character (both the player character and the game's "character" in general). Well done!

Radar Rider by 3LSTMsInATrenchcoat 2022-10-05T19:26:03Z

I was hooked. I ended up just counting my steps and managed to do alright until the target started moving haha!

I agree with some other comments, I'd love a subtle music track. The beeping got aggressive after a while, especially when there were more stars.

The graphics were great and really set the tone. Movement was smooth. Solid entry!

J-Menuing by nyxkn 2022-10-03T20:45:59Z

I recently started watching GDQ and they talk so much about menuing. I am blown away that you made a game just about menuing and it was still fun. The intro levels were good, the feedback was helpful.

Satellite commander by Henrik Ganard 2022-10-04T04:59:08Z

I don't know why you opted out of Audio, that was my favourite part ahah (unless it wasn't custom for the compo).

I found the controls really hard to navigate, but still I played like 20 times. So you must have done something right!

Great concept, definitely something I would have played with my friends back in the coffeebreak arcade days :)

Needy Pixel Kitties by Aaron Smith 2022-10-05T19:13:32Z

Pretty cute! The only thing that I found jarring was the apparent randomness of the items. I found myself cycling through wildly in a way that didn't feel like it added to the experience.

The tutorial was great :)

Cute Little Spider by BukkakeTears 2022-10-04T05:50:34Z

You must have bought the upgrades in RL because its insane how great this game was for 48 hours. The graphics, the sounds, the mechanics. All so smooth. I had a lot of fun.

second interval by ty_ 2022-10-03T01:48:06Z

I actually found the controls to be a bit sticky sometimes - which was hard for me because I'm bad at platformers, but despite that I really enjoyed playing. I love music-themed games that aren't guitar-hero/ddr-like rhythm games.

The chalky art-style was fantastic. Lots of potential, of course, but also just such a great game for 48 hours.

Time To Live: 10 by Lancival 2022-10-04T05:04:20Z

The core mechanic was pretty cool, but the basic mechanics were confusing. Was I sticking to walls? Sometimes I couldn't jump if I was too close to a wall and I'm not a good enough platformer to not do that, haha.

Also, I would have loved a mute button for the sound effects.

I love a level select screen! Both for skipping past levels you've already played or (in my case) for levels you can't figure out. Lots of LD games are very punishing in making you restart the tutorial every time you die. So I thank you!

Pincolour by Haydads 2022-10-05T20:45:41Z

I love a good pinball game. The theme usage was solid, the aesthetic really worked. I found the flippers were a bit unresponsive so I had to anticipate more than I wanted. But its hard to make a real-life feeling pinball game so kudos. This is a great entry!

Disco Roller by owca 2022-10-05T20:18:17Z

The visuals are fun, the music is great (love me some disco), but I had no idea what was happening. I assume some of the panels were bad and you shouldn't stand on them, but it wasn't clear which. I ended up just bouncing and it got me to 500. This definitely seems like it could be polished into a great casual game that I'd play on the bus !

BUN-hop by bqq 2022-10-05T20:42:31Z

I'm not the biggest fan of platformers, but I'll play anything with a rabbit in it. I love how you included the simple graphics in the plot/theme to make them a plus. The music felt good.

I really liked the level where you had to turn back. Solid level design!

Acid Rain by osh.studio 2022-10-03T01:16:24Z

I'm not much for platformers but I loved the vibe. If you haven't seen Sequelitis: Megaman X then I commend your innate godlike ability to teach the player exactly what to do without too much handholding.

I liked the idea of giving players single-user powerups close to, but not necessarily next to, where they are needed. So I did have to plan a little

Lighthouse by rickylee 2022-10-04T04:53:12Z

Ive said it before and I'll say it again, I love games taht play with light. Add in the Rainy Mood and I'm down.

I didn't entirely get what was happening with the beam though, a few times it flew past and didn't show anything in my way only for me to immediately run into a rock. Sometimes it worked though.

I loved the rowing animation. And I made it safely to the dock so all in all a good experience!

Sprint10 by Ben Parisi 2022-10-03T02:57:26Z

I love the concept and I'm always tickled by a Naruto run.

The graphics were super cool, but there were points when it was hard to see where I was going.

I don't think the lives thing added any stakes for a game like this; it was tedious to go back and restart the 'tutorial' levels and I would have tried that craggy wall 100 times before I got it.

Otherwise great first entry!

Last Defense by Pixelydian 2022-10-05T20:21:16Z

The graphics are charming and the music set a nice tone without being annoying.

I didn't really understand what was going on. Why was I destroying the buildings of the people I wanted to save? Also I didn't catch how the timer came into it.

It felt like a great new take on an old classic and I'm down for it. Solid entry.

The book of time magic by Senso 2022-10-03T02:30:33Z

I really enjoyed the 2048 type game. It was pretty intuitive and I found myself playing it for quite a while.

The enemy progression wasn't super clear and I did have some questions.

All in all, this felt more like an unfinished "finished" game than a completed game jam game. And I mean that as the greatest compliment. I would expect to see a game like this in an app store and play it when I was bored, overlooking any minor issues. Doing it in 48 hours is bananas.

The opening was funny, but I did get worried at one point because I didn't know how long it was going to be and there was no timer or skip.

Birdwatching by Iguanana 2022-10-03T04:59:57Z

Love birds. Love typing. Had a great time.

I did end up taking my headphones off because the music got really drony after a few loops and there was no mute button in game.

Catagochi by Kosmosael 2022-10-03T20:52:42Z

I had no idea what I was doing and still had a good time. It makes me wonder if when we were feeding, etc our tamagochis as children, if they weren't in there going on crazy adventures!

3 minutes in hell by Castitatis 2022-10-04T05:15:42Z

What a neat game! I didn't totally get what was going on with the "zones", I assumed I got a bonus while I was standing in them but that wasn't clear. Regardless, I love a game with "zones" haha.

The music set a nice tone in the main menu but became something of a bother midgame. I wish I was better at these bullet hell kinds of games because I would have liked to see more of the mechanics. but I died at the demon fairy/succubus character and didn't care to try again.

The graphics were great and honestly the whole game seemed SUPER polished, even if it wasn't my cup of tea. Gotta recognize good when ya see it !

In the Basket by J4cko16 2022-10-03T05:12:12Z

Dude. I don't know how you add so much variety in such a simple game. It was literally just fruit dropping. And even with the events, I knew it was just gonna be more fruit dropped and I still looked forward to it!

I also appreciated how forgiving it was, I definitely caught a few "with my body"

The screen shake on movement gave me the impression Tanner and the Fruit are huge - which made it extra fun for me. Clomping around.

Pillagers Plague by bcollins0000 2022-10-03T17:37:08Z

Big fan of tower defense games. As an expansion of the concept, I wonder if zombies could maybe be stronger but slower? Or have some kind of resistance to arrows, or maybe resistance to the thing that killed them?

There's a lot of cool places you could go with this. But well done!

Back for Seconds by Bit Flipz 2022-10-04T00:19:41Z

Started a little slow, but once I got my first wizard, shit TURNT UP. The music was really subtle and not overwhelming. Sound effects were solid. I really enjoyed it and would play more!

Feed the Deep by Matt Green 2022-10-03T02:51:20Z

@j4cko16 Yeah, I did most of my testing on desktop and then, for some reason, thought I HAD to post an HTML version which turned out to be a nightmare with resizing and stuff.

Feed the Deep by Matt Green 2022-10-03T02:52:22Z

@ben-parisi Thanks Ben! I actually also found the game tough, and I made it. Balance is certainly hard in gamejams :)

That said, you DO get to see the monster when you win. But you're right, it's pretty hard to do with the controls and everything the way they are!

Feed the Deep by Matt Green 2022-10-03T23:39:52Z

@vimmagic haha! I made the splash effect as a test right near the beginning and it made me laugh every time so I kept it. Then leaned into the voiced effects with the sand, cha-ching and timer boop :)

Feed the Deep by Matt Green 2022-10-04T05:29:17Z

@payaosito I really like the idea of having one farm loaded in already! I wrote it in the description that it's basically step 1 (even tomatoes take too long to grow for the first feed) so it woulda got things going. I made the game and I still die on the first feed because I dont get the farm down fast enough, haha.

I wish I had lined up some play testers in advance because everyone I know was busy. The UI looked great on my screen but Im learning that different monitors display different (which is an insane thing not to think of because Im a web developer. yikes!).

I wasn't super happy with the theme at first, but now that LD is done, there's so many things I wanna add!

Feed the Deep by Matt Green 2022-10-05T03:46:33Z

@sean-esopenko The carrot farms will ultimately create more food than is needed to feed the beast early on, so you can sell extra food at the market (the building next to the castle). Which you can use to buy more (and better) farms, the mine and the sand pits.

Feed the Deep by Matt Green 2022-10-06T02:54:18Z

@busisen Thanks! I really appreciate the kind words. As far as the bug goes, I did witness that a few times during testing and to avoid putting a whole global lock on the timer once it ticks down and freezing the whole scene, I just added ~.5s of grace period.

The timer still resets, but at least I don't feel bad about it anymore, ahah.

Switcheroo by Prologi 2022-10-04T05:54:04Z

I love the 3d pixel art thing, it really made the simple models pop and feel exciting. The mechanic was cool. The music was a bit aggressive but it added to the mood (the mood was panic!).

I had a great time and I think I won, unless Rewind was just setting up a second level. Solid entry all around!

Soul of Seasons by shimmerscale 2022-10-03T23:52:18Z

When I was kid, my brother and I saved up our money and bought the oracle of seasons/ages zelda games for the gameboy color. So this was a nice blast of nostalgia.

I love the concept and the art, theme and mood were great. However, Im a terrible platformer and had to try a few times to get up on the block there and 3/4 times, I got trapped in the pile of leaves? Weird collision issue.

Just Right by VimMagic 2022-10-03T17:53:48Z

Okay, at first I was like "this is dumb." Until I lost for having TOO MANY points? Then I was in it. Dodging tiles, grabbing negatives. Such a cool idea.

I think the player token could have been a little faster. It was hard to dodge the hexes, or get the ones I wanted. At some point I was just standing in the corner. That said, maybe changing up the spawn points too.

Seasonaut by EvilMurlock 2022-10-03T04:19:16Z

I'm not sure if you edited something, but the download isn't working for me.

Monster's Dungeon Shop by Deniz ARAS 2022-10-05T20:25:03Z

Definitely innovative, I've never seen a game quite like this one so that's a plus. The game looked incredible but the items were a bit hard to see sometimes.

I'd definitely give this one another go sometimes. Lots of cool things you could do with it!

TimeStick by Jonathan HETEAU 2022-10-03T05:20:11Z

This took me a second to 'get' but holy cow. I had a lot of fun. Also, congrats on the Megaman-level tutorial stages! Very intuitive,

There was one weird bug where my dudes were double jumping and then flying out of the arena.

In terms of suggestions, I'd love the ability to restart a mode without restarting the whole game. There were some buttons I just sat on and then I couldn't "unsit" on them.

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-05T20:49:12Z

This game is so beautiful. I appreciate anyone who tries a 3D game for LD, but especially a 3D that actually looks semi-realistic (and not just pill shooting other pills).

The game concept was cool (although I am bad at it) and the music was nice. What a wonderfully elegant entry.

Bloodthirst by dollcoded 2022-10-04T04:27:31Z

Any game with a heavy blood theme freaks me out but I gave it a go. I didn't realize that my gun was hitting the enemies, so I was just melee buckin' em.

It took me a few tries to realize how the injector works. It also wasn't clear if there was a victory condition. But I had a good time.

Blobbbert: 10 Second Navigator by Xorel 2022-10-04T05:09:51Z

The graphics were indeed cute and the core mechanic was solid. As far as level design, it didn't feel like there was any consequence for going slow, and there was no benefit (or in some cases possibility) for going fast. So I'd step forward 2 or 3 blocks, and wait 10 seconds, repeat.

I also felt like the music and effects didn't match the mood. Like, they were very electronic but Blobbbert was squishy and cute. I would have loved something more playful.

But otherwise great entry. Lots of room to add new mechanics here, I think

Keep it clear, Bob ! by blk_dg 2022-10-05T20:28:55Z

Very interesting game! the tiny pixel art worked for the style really well. The sound effects were nice.

I would definitely play a game like this!

LD53 — Delivery

Space Express by gmaker 2023-05-05T20:41:43Z

Everyone's making these bomb-ass vivid pixel-art planets and mine are just circles :joy:

Pretty solid game. I did have an issue where sometimes my fuel would still run down even when I was landed and had to restart a few times. But otherwise, very nicely done!

Scooter Mania by daandruff 2023-05-01T20:24:25Z

I loved Oxylunky so much, I had to come see if you entered LD53! This game was a great take on the infinite runner genre. AND the stacking part at the beginning, classic arcade fun.

The music was pleasant but not distracting. The jumping was forgiving, given the size of the scooter.

All in all, great entry!

Scooter Mania by daandruff 2023-05-04T18:02:16Z

@daandruff don't apologize, I still had a great time. And trying new things is what Jams are all about :)

PACKAGES by Linus Lindberg 2023-05-05T20:46:49Z

last level: SNAKE TO THE HEART, AND YOU'RE TO BLAME...

Classic game, incredibly executed. Great game that I would play 500 levels of on a bus :)

Express Stork Delivery by AlexClay 2023-05-10T17:10:16Z

I don't know if you wrote all these names yourself or used some kind of generator, but one lady's name was -tree which is pretty great.

I wasn't totally sure if I was playing right. I followed the instructions but the parents seemed unhappy? Also the music was very intense for the mood/theme of the game.

One minor "bug" I guess: I wasn't playing in fullscreen mode but movement was mouse-based, so I'd often lose the tracker when my mouse left the viewport, which made it difficult to turn around sometimes.

But otherwise, it was a lot of fun! I'm obviously partial to Stork-based games :)

Great entry

Galaxy Express by Jiri Hysek 2023-05-06T18:20:00Z

Oh man, this game was tight. Did I correctly assume that thing shooting at me was a Vogon from HGTTG?

The tractor beam felt really good, the sound and graphic quality were great. Super impressed.

Also, the extra jab when I tried to hit escape. I love games with little easter eggs like that

Air Shipping by Hare Software 2023-05-06T01:25:21Z

I've been very conservative rater and this game got 5s across the board. The audio was great. The pixel graphics are incredible. I would play a full version game of this in a heartbeat.

Just wow.

Neverending PetriChore by snakemuho 2023-05-06T18:04:29Z

I'm always super impressed when people manage solid 3D games for compo. It is not a skill I have.

At first I wasn't sure about this game; but without even looking at the instructions, I figured out enough mechanics to get through the game. I found all the umbrellas. I spent most of my time looking for the last tent haha.

All in all, pretty solid entry! congrats.

Crazy you managed to get so many mechanics into the game in just 48 hours. Very impressive.

Rhino Express by Mahjoub 2023-05-05T20:18:53Z

Easily one of the best games I've played this LD. The graphics were tight, the gameplay was clear, the levels were well designed. And I got just as much game as I wanted (some people make like 100 levels and I get bored, ya know).

Not much to suggest. I really liked it!

Bundle Dumper: Florida Edition by cheesepencil 2023-05-06T04:22:24Z

Stork Games 4 Lyfe!

I loved the graphics. The detail and character in your stork with what...50 pixels? The baby is like 10. Incredible.

Space Delivery by Kirbloid 2023-05-05T05:02:58Z

The graphics were so vivid for compo pixel art. I didn't really understand if there was as trick, I was just shooting randomly. Sometimes they would bounce and I'd get bonuses.

Solid entry. Also, I'm certainly partial to a space theme ;)

Grav-O-Delivery by XeduR 2023-05-04T18:15:27Z

This is similar to what I had originally planned for my game, but I ended up changing course almost entirely haha. I'm glad someone had the skill and follow-through to make it :)

Sending from the far left to the far right was hard (on my resolution) because I couldn't drag the bar long enough without it leaving the viewport.

Regardless, I had a lot of fun with it

Bomb Express by MoebiusMeow 2023-05-02T22:36:30Z

I spent waaayyy too long playing this game haha. Very interesting concept!

Constellation Courier by Diego Teran 2023-05-06T03:16:54Z

The graphics in the game are gorgeous. The background is intoxicating, but the characters and planets are so charming. This looks better than some of the games I've bought on steam recently haha.

Also, I heard there are multiple endings so I'll have to come back and giver another go.

Fulfillment by fargred 2023-05-05T04:58:47Z

Solid entry, lots of neat little mechanics.

One difficulty I had was that the condition would sometimes change exactly as I dropped my token in the box and it would be wrong. Maybe a timer? or if its supposed to be unexpected, you could be slightly more forgiving around the change-time. Or maybe if you've already picked up a box, it still works for the old container? Just some ideas.

The managers were pretty funny. I was just talking about Office Space today. An intrusive floor manager is always a great add :)

Dungeon messenger by Gastar 2023-05-10T16:48:31Z

A couple immediate notes:

It wasn't clear if I was supposed to shooting the little dudes or not. Sometimes I'd kill all the aggro mobs but then the door wouldn't open until I attacked a little dude.

Also, very minor, but if I had a powerup with limited ammo, clicking the OK button triggered my gun and I'd lose some ammo.

Otherwise, great take on classic genre!

Untitled by taxol 2023-05-04T03:47:55Z

I eventually figured it out. It was definitely an experience. With the music and the...darkening, I kind of expected something to jump out at me, which I wasn't looking forward to.

I think I found the end?

Click to Deliver by Noobman64 2023-05-04T03:30:51Z

Did I catch a Ryan George joke in there?

The game was pretty silly. Reminded me of the early internet, in a good way.

Diseased Dirigible by Falk Hoeppner 2023-05-06T00:06:37Z

This was great! I was doing really well until the engine caught on fire :joy:

The little flea indicator! The characters! This almost feels like a I movie I would have seen in the 90s.

Sole Deliverer by FoggyDude 2023-05-10T17:02:00Z

I really enjoyed the main mechanics! The climbing animation was giving weird body-horror which I strangely enjoyed.

One feedback I commonly give is that the text-printing animation feels like neat polish, but I've found in player interviews that most people (myself included) find it a bit tedious having to wait for text to finish writing. If you're going to add it, it should be a setting you can turn off or add the ability to skip/load.

Also, I don't know if you made this for the compo (because it's technically fair game to have it premade), but your loading animations were tight. The "Made for LD53" especially.

Codename: STORK by Matt Green 2023-05-02T22:00:15Z

@piano-forte Thanks! I always have fun with the sound effects. I appreciate you playing into the "end game"!

I was happy with how it all turned out!

Codename: STORK by Matt Green 2023-05-04T06:07:13Z

@frabjous-studios Thanks for the kind words.

Callooh! Callay!

Codename: STORK by Matt Green 2023-05-05T21:42:40Z

@gmaker Thanks! I had some other dreams for mechanics that were half-implemented. In a previous LD, people said my game got really hectic. So this time I intentionally scaled down or removed some of the difficulty-mechanics in hopes most players would get the finish the game.

I certainly might clean it up after LD. There's more stuff I want to add and I really like the character haha.

Codename: STORK by Matt Green 2023-05-06T02:36:07Z

@johnsensei I appreciate the feedback. There was a scrollwheel zoom but it wasn't indicated in any way. Hopefully it didn't ruin the game fundamentally for you.

And yes, the Back to Main button is broken. I may do a bugfix update.

Codename: STORK by Matt Green 2023-05-06T02:59:53Z

I have fixed a minor bug that prevented the final game completion screen from loading. For those of you who already finished the game and were marooned in the empty void, I owe you an ending.

Codename: STORK by Matt Green 2023-05-06T18:16:14Z

@noskro Sorry about that. I uploaded a bugfix build and I thought itch would keep my build settings, but it didn't. It has been fixed!

Codename: STORK by Matt Green 2023-05-16T19:13:41Z

@haustgeirr thanks! and yeah, the game was pretty easy to min/max. I overtuned a bit intentionally so that people could finish the whole game in a reasonable LD review time.

Next jam I might add difficulty settings/modes so that people can play the 'real' version if they want the challenge. Or the EasyMode if they want to play through the 'story'.

lessons learned.

Package to Mr. Moon by Ravernt 2023-05-04T03:59:23Z

I don't know if this is a style of game that is popular (and Im out of the loop) or if this is a whole new movement mechanic, but it took me some time to get a handle on the vector there. Once I figured it out, it was a lot of fun.

I LOVED the graphics. Might be the only 5-star I give out for compo. Really dig the format. And your character is iconic.

Bricks and Fire by sudocoffee 2023-05-05T20:53:01Z

Just like in real life, I failed to save humanity :joy:

Neat little game. Great first entry :)

Sermon Delivery Simulator by nczmoo 2023-05-06T00:15:27Z

This reminds of Democracy, if that's what you were going for. I wasn't totally sure what I was doing. A lot of people left, but maybe that was secretly my goal? :joy:

Chain Mail by Gev 2023-05-10T16:45:14Z

I enjoyed the game! and the graphics were charming despite their simplicity. Great entry.

But that aside, I can't be the only one was had to do a double take at the thumbnail logo. I get that its a C chained to an M for ChainMail but...

LD54 — Limited Space

Get rid of the alien! by Jejkobb 2023-10-08T18:22:16Z

very cute! The levels were challenging without being frustrating. The box/alien sound effects were lovely but the background music was a bit loud/droney. It's a space game, so...fair.

Regardless, I couldn't stop playing until I won. Great level progression. Overall solid entry.

New Apartment by Jiri Hysek 2023-10-08T18:31:31Z

I could tell immediately this was not your first LD. The polish was insane. On the game but also on itch and the site.

The concept was great. I personally have a lot of difficulty with relative positioning (ie, up is forward even if you're facing down) so it was a bit of a struggle for me. But I was happy to have even figured out how to get the 3-boxes around that corner!

The sound effects were very funny (I assume voice recorded?). All in all, great game.

Storage Overflow 2 by Andreas Roschal 2023-10-13T18:07:30Z

Great game! the graphics are clean, and the controls feel intuitive. I didn't realize right away that the items need to go IN the truck and not on that square.

But once I figured it out, I was having a great time. It was also fun putting stuff on a table and throwing it across the world.

Solid entry!

Hellevator by SgtWeirdo 2023-10-18T23:33:55Z

The art style and music are great. I don't know if I can give you top marks because it reminds me too much of my old apartment building (pre covid)!

Just kidding :)

great entry!

DARQY by Euler Moises 2023-10-08T18:10:53Z

Love the graphics! the sounds design is great. I think I ended up off of the map a few times by queueing up movement too quickly, but not a big deal.

I also found that the sounds sometimes didn't play at all until I was already on the creature.

But this is such a neat idea. There is definitely something amazing here.

Hot Drills by CodeRaurus 2023-10-08T17:35:32Z

Pretty solid entry! the music was nice without being annoying. The graphics were great and consistent. I love how the game taught you different concepts like the radar subtly.

Loved it!

Parry Hotter and the Stilosopher’s Phone by osh.studio 2023-10-08T18:00:58Z

Very addicting! the gameplay loop was pretty simple, but I couldn't stop playing (until I died). The graphics were great. The controls felt pretty intuitive.

I only knew from the comments that the game ended at 20, and maybe some indication that I can only move forward? Otherwise wicked entry.

Waterskin by HexyVexy 2023-10-13T18:11:15Z

You don't see a lot of narrative games in jams because they're hard to pull off. But you PULLED. IT. OFF.

Super nostalgic. Lots of fun. great replayability.

Fairy Tale 2: Big Trouble in Pixie Hollow by Matt Green 2023-10-03T14:17:16Z

@powerofsin, honestly I knew that was going to be the main criticism haha. I had originally planned some more mechanics that either were scrapped for time, or took away from the main goal of 'limited space'.

I think there's a kernel of something here. Maybe I'll expand on it somehow in the future :)

Fairy Tale 2: Big Trouble in Pixie Hollow by Matt Green 2023-10-03T15:24:21Z

@alis the fairies should have alerted you in winter 1 if you had too much food and no storage.

I'll bring it up in their next annual review :)

Fairy Tale 2: Big Trouble in Pixie Hollow by Matt Green 2023-10-16T01:36:35Z

@gilborn I appreciate the feedback! When I submitted, I knew that was going to be the main criticism but it was too late. There were some more mechanics I had planned that were either scrapped for time, or because they detracted from the main theme mechanic of running out of space.

That's the magic of game jams, I guess. Live and learn.

Packed to the Gills by npckc 2023-10-08T18:39:29Z

Oh man. Sardines was the first thing I wrote down on my concept map but I couldn't think of anything good to do with it. And y'all friggin nailed it.

I think I missed an instruction cause I didn't know what was going on with those little jellyfish. But the music was great, the graphics were great.

Wonderful game.

My grandma's stories by Aquillot 2023-10-13T18:28:57Z

I don't even now what to say. The graphics style was super cool. But holy shit. That one level, I was just hitting spacebar and I did not feel good about it.

Well done overall. I'm gonna go sit down for a bit.

Limited Space by Mitch Miller 2023-10-13T18:36:22Z

Graphics were great. I'm not great a piloting games so I spent a lot of time spinning around. Neat concept though. I didn't read the rules at first so I was confused when I felt like I hit a wall. Then I read the rules haha.

KlutterKidz by Dread7 2023-10-18T23:32:44Z

I had a similar experience to others. But one thing I will say, for future jam games: if you want your game to stand out, it can go a long way to have a few screenshots in the description above.

Otherwise, great entry!

LD55 — Summoning

Demanager by satacat 2024-04-18T02:43:57Z

There's a show called Ugly Americans about a guy who works at a public sector job integrating various demons and monsters into society. And there's one episode where a wizard melts when his job is rendered redundant. A giant floating head (ostensibly their boss) appears and shouts "MAINTENANCE! I SUMMON THEE"

For some reason this magical bureaucracy has always tickled me, so that the first thing I thought of when the theme was revealed.

I didn't end up doing it, but this is more or less what I had in mind, and I'm glad someone did it. :)

Pokoe The Forest Summoner's Day Off by Mavvy 2024-04-17T14:05:46Z

Every bit was clean and well done. The music was light and fun but not intrusive. There were some mechanics that I don't feel were well explained but I figured them out in time.

The art was cute.

Honestly, all in all a solid compo entry.

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-15T16:34:34Z

Sorry! You're right, it was private. I posted it on LD and itch was kind of an afterthought.

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-15T17:48:10Z

@rcxa @asatrain gah. itch is annoying. I uploaded the new build and deployed and I guess it didn't save.

Just uploaded again and tried in a private browser and its working now. Sorry.

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-15T18:15:40Z

@frogman I unfortunately added the win/loss condition in the final hour and only had so much time to test/plan for it.

"One Accusation" was sorta a staple of old mystery games. Perhaps if I had made it more direct like [ACCUSE X], otherwise it just seems like you're starting a conversation and lose surprisingly.

That's great feedback.

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-26T03:28:52Z

@henk All great questions! unfortunately questions I don't have the answers for. You could ask Rock himself, but he's not much of a talker :joy:

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-26T03:32:03Z

@azure-drake That is almost always my biggest fear. I only ever really have time to write 32 bars. I figure if people get tired of it, there's a music off button in the bottom corner.

I'm a musician in RL but Im still working on translating that to games! Hope you still had a good time.

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-26T03:35:02Z

@djtequila I realized as I was explaining the game to my wife after submission that maybe 12/13 characters was too many. I had all the sprites and such coded in before I even began writing the story.

re: note taking, I suspected this would be a primary concern. I watched a video essay recently about how we all used to play games with a pen and paper to write stuff down because there were no in-game trackers. It added an extra layer to the game because you had to decide what was important and such.

Perhaps it was just nostalgia for me! Maybe if I build out the game more, I can add the tracker in as an extra, for people who don't want the trouble. And let people play Classic for the extra 'challenge'

Hope you enjoyed it regardless!

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-26T03:37:14Z

@kallico I'm hardly an expert writer and whatever it was came together in a blur in the last 3-4 hours. I thought it would be easy because the core game mechanics were pretty simple, I "just had to write the story" but that turned out to be the bane.

That's what's great about game jams, you live and you learn.

Also, congrats. You're the first person I've heard of who solved it. Maybe other did but said nothing

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-26T03:38:33Z

@gcake writing was the most stressful part and I put it off for too long. I kinda hoped there'd be some tool out there for writing abstract mysteries that I could just use, but nope. So I just started writing branching threads and hoping they made it somewhere.

I'm sure it wasn't the clearest story in the world, the ending came together pretty fast, but under the circumstances I hope people will forgive me :joy:

Summoner's Circle: A Murder Mystery by Matt Green 2024-04-26T03:40:12Z

@silkworm-sweatshop I tried to remove as many of those slips as possible, but I wrote the branching mechanic before I wrote the story, so there was no way for a line to have two "parents".

I'm curious what path you took to hear those things out of order, but I figured such a thing might happen. There's lots of room here to grow, but I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I definitely want to explore this concept further.

Flying Buttress by Jack728 2024-04-17T14:00:37Z

I'm a sucker for PICO games. I should have read the description before I started because I didn't realize what my goal was. I don't think Buttress mean female butler, but I also use the term anytime I get the chance, so I can't blame you.

All in all kinda fun. The music was very intense and really set the theme.
