LD51 — Every 10 seconds

A Fly's Life by recursor 2022-10-03T23:37:03Z

Honestly love this entry. A fun concept that's also easy to learn and intuitively understand, that I feel like I'm getting better at every time I play. I genuinely think you nailed the theme. I also appreciate that you explicitly introduced the fly boost feature in level two, otherwise I would've probably not used it until later. Btw, love the buzzing sound. Really solid!

Duo Dungeon by DavidBradbury 2022-10-04T17:11:22Z

The art and vibe of this game is honestly among the best I've seen in this jam. A bit sad that it was so short, but like others have said, you've got a really solid foundation for a great game! Also, right now the "Every 10 Seconds" theme, while you follow it and I was pleasantly surprised when the characters changed the first time, there's no rush to do anything because if you accidentally miss a button you can just wait 15 seconds and try again. On the other hand, that was also pretty nice, all of the other games are soo stressfull haha. Was nice to just chill for a bit in this world you created.

Nice job finishing and releasing your first project btw :) I have a hard time finishing projects too, but actually also finished my first game this jam too, so yay to us hehe :)

Had the game music playing in the background while writing this, and it's lovely!

Gem Collector by nervous-composers 2022-10-06T13:41:51Z

At first I didn't know what to do and thought it would be a low effort entry, but wow I was really pleasantly surprised. Couldn't stop playing when I got into it, loved the concept and gameplay. One thing that I think I would've liked personally is if the upgrade screen was like a pause screen, where you could take your time and not feeling stressed out. But I understand that it's not because of the jam theme. Anyways, great entry!

Timed Turn Based Strategy Game by PatBGames 2022-10-04T14:21:16Z

I think you have an interesting concept to work with here actually :) But like the other commenters said, it's not really a game (as you also stated in the description). I hope you continue work on this and that it becomes more of a demo instead of its current state. Nonetheless, nice job in such a short time :)

The Zero Countdown by kromeboy 2022-10-04T16:23:52Z

If I found this as a kid I would no-life it lol. Absolutely love the art! Easiest 5/5 on the art. Simple game, but it worked for me :) Great job!

Maze Mouse by Eager Fox 2022-10-02T23:54:02Z

Nice game, I like the concept of exploring and learning the map more and more every loop you play through the game!

ZombieGrade by Jejkobb 2022-10-04T00:07:11Z

Love your take on the theme. Was fun to see how all the upgrades worked in tandem - magic bullet was my favourite lol. Really liked the disintegration effect on the zombies when they died. Nice grass system as well! Good job man :)

Digital Bacon's Every 10 Seconds by digital bacon 2022-10-15T20:25:40Z

I think you have a great base for a good game. It seems you know what can be improved so I don't have much to add other than that I really think that with polish it could be really fun :) Nice entry nonetheless!

Ninja | Thief by rolferm 2022-10-04T15:46:44Z

I think the idea is really fun, but the controls leave a lot to be desired. They made it harder to enjoy the experience of the game itself. Nonetheless, great job on finishing a game this quickly!

Gladiato"R"Us by Maxime Cyr 2022-10-04T00:00:03Z

This was a fun game, it was hilarious reading through all the baby descriptions and deciding based on those. Genuinely impressed you managed to pull this all together in 72 hours. I managed to get my ass beat every time I played, which was a bit frustrating, but that was probably mostly my fault lol.

Getting Farted On by kuviman 2022-10-02T22:53:00Z

this was in the "most neglected" list, that's a crime against humanity. love farting! :) very very hard game though!

Lab Accident by brusnika 2022-10-04T17:24:32Z

I like the concept, but it took me a while to understand what was going on. I feel like you have a good idea that you can continue working on to create something really good! Nice submission :)

Super Auto Crusaders by Savolae 2022-10-06T20:20:19Z

This was a lovely game. At the start it didn't feel like my strategic choices did much if anything to affect the outcome of the game but when I started my archer strat I was unstoppable and became champion. Really fun entry, nice job!

Cobor goes farming by Douwe_Ravers 2022-10-04T16:53:41Z

Wow, it's actually incredible you managed to pull all of this together in 48h. Really impressed, looks good and was fun, but most importantly Cobor is pretty cute :flushed:

Countdown Cowboy by waffleworksgames 2022-10-04T16:12:37Z

I think it says a lot when you have art that great and still it's not the most impressive thing about the game. Was really fun too. Genuinely enjoyed it and I'm super impressed you managed to pull all of this together in 48 hours.

Potat-OS by JMad 2022-10-05T22:47:16Z

Hilarious and creative take on the theme. One of my favourite submissions. Well done!

Airport by grilladroid 2022-10-04T14:27:01Z

I dig the idea. Didn't really understand what I was meant to do at first but once I did it was enjoyable. Nice job, and I hope you develop it further in the future :)

BUN-hop by bqq 2022-10-04T16:38:05Z

"If you keep running left you'll get back to the menu... whatever that means" this was one of the funniest lines I've seen in any game haha, and a nice "easter egg" for people like me who like to explore maps in their entirety. Apart from that it was also genuinely a great game altogether. Nice atmospheric music, lovely controls and a coherent graphical style. Seriously impressed, one of my favourite jam games I've played! Great job!

Drunkard Alien by NeneChico 2022-10-05T09:05:47Z

Every time the camera changed the character was completely out of view for me which made the game pretty unplayable. I think the main idea is pretty fun though.

Microgame Mayhem by Hawke Games 2022-10-04T15:41:35Z

Had pretty fun playing through all the small minigames :) Would love to see if you could possibly expand them into more games in the future? Nice job :)

SKY ROBOT QUANTUM ECHO by Bosco 2022-10-05T23:05:43Z

I agree with most people here; great concept, nice art and everything packaged together beautifully. Really solid entry!

The 10 Second Foot by Aes1 2022-10-04T00:30:51Z

I really liked the outside the box type game you made lol. Cute graphics and simple yet fun gameplay. Probably something I would spend hours on if I found this as a flash game on one of those early game websites. Nice job :)

EVERY TIME YOU BLINK by robobarbie 2022-10-05T10:34:51Z

Wow, I was totally taken by this game/story. The minigames added to the experience a lot, and put me in the right headspace for the experience. Really cool, awesome submission.

Back for Seconds by Bit Flipz 2022-10-05T08:56:57Z

Something about this game hooked me more than any of the other entries I played. Absolutely love the art style, and the concept is really nice. First game was a bit hard, but once I got a sorcerer it became hard to lose instead. Once I had two of them I was unstoppable. I feel like that unit was a bit overpowered and trivialized the whole game. And there were a few visual bugs that didn't really affect the gameplay very much. But I genuinely think this idea is worth expanding upon, I would actually play a fully fledged game in this style. I think you have something very special, and it interested me a lot. Great entry!

Feed the Deep by Matt Green 2022-10-05T23:09:42Z

I love the idea. Really nice execution too. Was pretty stressful to keep up with the hunger demands while simultaneously expanding your farm haha. One thing that happened to me, which most likely is a bug is that I managed to feed the monster RIGHT before the time was up, the timer was reset to 10 seconds, but I was presented with the game over-screen anyways. Probably some rare timing issue with an easy fix! Regardless, cool entry.

Groovy Wars by Aryaman 2022-10-04T15:43:46Z

Love the concept, nice job submitting this in such a short timespan. I'm impressed! Played this for a while with my roommate and we loved it haha

Enrum by HOLYPERSON 2022-10-05T08:15:35Z

I liked the game, and think you did a nice job. I like the music and graphics too, was a nice vibe altogether. The introductory levels were good too. But I can't figure out how to get past level 6? I feel like the concepts taught didn't translate to that level? In previous levels you were able to build subways below roads, but in this level you couldn't for some reason. Maybe I completely misunderstood something, but I genuinely can't get past level 6 lol.

Also, to me, while the game is genuinely good and interesting, I just feel like the theme "Every 10 Seconds" is somewhat of an afterthought. Didn't affect the gameplay whatsoever in my opinion. But again, the game itself I really liked.

Enrum by HOLYPERSON 2022-10-05T10:03:19Z

@holyperson thanks for the clarifying reply! Just beat all 13 levels, was a really good challenge, especially those later levels like you said. Really well put together and polished. Nice submission :)

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-04T15:55:19Z

@aes1 thank you so much for the nice comment, and wow 20 is a great score :) If you score 15 or more you actually unlock the "pro mode" that's also accessible via the "PLAY" menu, if you wanted to try that out! And yes, it's possible to knock off the top of the stack like you described. I could've just increased the height of the colliders but I thought it was a fun feature, sometimes packages get lost in the mail! :P

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-04T16:00:19Z

@bosco thank you! Yeah, the insane ramp in difficulty was a pretty big concern and I never found a good enough solution to combat it, so scores above 25 and 30+ are very very difficult to achieve lol

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-05T00:34:01Z

@somecodingguy thanks! And I agree, the first block on the bottom kinda gets obscured by the rest. Didn't really have time to find a solution to it, sadly. Thanks for the feedback :)

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-05T13:57:29Z

@xoreaxeax thanks for the comment! yeah strategically I think it's best to do them one at a time, even if you get two of the same colour stacked. and yes, sometimes they can be a bit hard to drop into the spots/get a bit stuck, but it is possible to minimize that risk if you play a certain way, which I think is a nice feature :) it does start pretty slow but gets hard quickly! a bit too quickly probably, but I couldn't figure out a solution to that in time. thanks a lot for playing!

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-05T14:03:31Z

@pbg thank you so much :) didn't even think about the possibility of turning it into a mobile game, but you're right - the controls would be pretty fitting. and thanks, I've never implemented a highscore system before and had some extra time over so I figured why not, and the name prompt is obv because of that. I didn't give the colours THAT much thought but rather looked for a colour theme that I liked, that went well with the environment. probably could've adjusted the colours slightly. thanks for the feedback!

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-05T22:52:28Z

@golin wow, I don't know what to say, what a kind comment. It is my first ever game jam and I really surprised myself with how much I managed to do in just 48 hours. First ever finished unity project/game! Thank you again!

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-05T22:53:32Z

@matt-green thank you so much, I'm really glad you liked it. really thankful that you gave it a try!

OVERLOADED! by busisen 2022-10-06T23:02:20Z

thanks to everyone for all the kind words, it means a lot to me and I'm really glad you liked the game :)

@kromeboy I considered that too, but I think I kind of like having it before playing. this way the player is more engaged in the game before it even starts because their username is connected to the outcome of the game and a potential placement on the hiscores. I would've changed it if I hadn't implemented an easy way to start the game over like you can with pressing space now. thanks for the feedback anyways, I always appreciate it.

Press me...or die by Vykri 2022-10-04T23:40:31Z

Loved it lol, the humour was great. I like that you added a custom voice line if you try "the thing" before reaching the end.

Returnal by MegaFocus 2022-10-04T16:48:04Z

I think you have a great concept here, but like @triangle-point pointed out, sometimes the jump/double jump mechanic is not working it seems like? I managed to pull it off once. Maybe I missed something vital to understand how it worked and in that case I'm sorry.

History Repeats by Chetthonctus 2022-10-05T00:31:05Z

Had a real aha-moment when I figured out how to get past the first hurdle of getting the key to the first lock, which was cool! I haven't managed to finish it, but I really like the concept and think you absolutely nailed the theme of this jam. It's very hard though, maybe could've been made easier somehow. Nonetheless, really cool entry, definitely one of my favourites.

OneTileBoy by ZioxIndieDev 2022-10-04T14:14:10Z

I love the level of polish on this. The pixel art is nice and it really feels like a solid, well developed game. Compo boys unite!!!

Keep it clear, Bob ! by blk_dg 2022-10-03T23:44:48Z

Wow, my first impression was how much I liked the pixel art and butter smooth movement. I think you managed to find a nice take on the theme and built around it very well. Do you have a background in art/deisgn? You really nailed the colour palette. Nice job :)

10HEAD by zimonitrome 2022-10-02T22:12:30Z

This is really epic, very satisfying to get big clears. But some colours are hard to tell the difference between. Nice work! :)

LD53 — Delivery

Beelivery by Jejkobb 2023-05-02T11:38:03Z

Really great/cute little game. I don't have much to add other than what @tom-oak said: the first horizontal tree is a bit high. I also found the tires by checkpoint 8 to be unproportionally difficult (skill issue?).

I'm guessing and hoping you'll score very high on the jam :) Good luck!

POSTLORD by zimonitrome 2023-05-01T16:52:32Z

Had an urge to come back and see if my favourite followee had participated in the new game jam, and they had (no way)! Afaik currently I'm the world record holder with a time of 13:39 which is no big deal. It was a fun experience honestly. Was a bit confusing at first how the controls worked, but once I figured out you could hold space to stick yourself to the packages, it became much easier. Sometimes, the packages are let go, however. Not sure why that happens.

Nonetheless, love the bouncy physics and cute graphics :3 Also very realistic message when you fail! I've heard that a lot irl and in the game!

LD55 — Summoning

You Have Been Summoned by Frederika 2024-04-21T10:13:54Z

Really nice artstyle, fits the theme perfectly. Had to restart a few times for choosing the wrong thing, but got there in the end. All in all, really nice entry, even though I rarely play games like these. Nice job!

Burnout Purgatory by Samuli 2024-04-17T12:50:50Z

Proud 11th finisher in humor :sunglasses: I really like the summoning concept and the need to balance out different categories. One thing I don't know if I'm the only person to experience is that a lot of the right part of screen is cut off in fullscreen mode, so it was a bit difficult to see how the bars were filling up besides just judging based on their colour. Regardless, I really like the entry, nice job :)

Readybuns by rosypenguin 2024-04-17T22:41:16Z

I'm flabbergasted you managed to create a full game on your phone lol - that's awesome, so please take my stars

To do magic, please dance by Yngvarr 2024-04-21T10:11:56Z

This game has one of the best premises of all the games I've played so far hahaha. I really like the 3d environment, it reminds me a lot of old pc games. It was a bit tough to get into the rhythm sometimes, but completed it after an embarrassing amount of tries. A solid entry, great job!

Cummon Summon by asfdfdfd 2024-04-17T23:21:41Z

Took me a while to understand the mechanics, but once I did I kinda loved it. Missed some transparency on the monstera leaves, but other than that I love the 3d art. The only thing I'm missing is a light tutorial to start off. Regardless, great submission :)

Spirit, are you there? by namnam 2024-04-16T12:27:11Z

What a great concept and take on the jam theme, I hope you develop this idea further because I think it has potential for a smaller full-story game with branching paths. Two issues I found were that when spelling the name, I had to move away from a letter to be able to write it two times in a row, and sometimes the text bubbles are a bit too big. But other than that, awesome submission, nice job!

Gacha Panic by Squidly 2024-04-17T12:37:34Z

Seriously impressive for a gamejam game. Huge props to the entire team. The take on the theme, collecting gachapons as summons is such fun idea. It did take me a while to understand the mechanics fully, but once I did I really enjoyed it. Easily one of my favourites.

Hellcaster by p-r 2024-04-17T23:00:52Z

Like others have mentioned, it left me a little confused at the beginning, but once getting the hang of it, turned out to be really nice. I appreciate it being a more calculation-heavy jam entry. Nice job!

Blåkulla by Simon Rahnasto 2024-04-17T22:46:42Z

I'm amazed of the polish in this game. Definitely the best game feel I've seen in this LD. Love the art and smoothness of the gameplay. Solid submission!

gladiatorium by Jejkobb 2024-04-16T11:29:37Z

I love the uniqueness of the spawn mechanic, using gestures to spawn different gladiators. Cute graphics, love the music that starts playing when the crowd gets hyped up. Great overall design, and a very nice submission. As other have mentioned, a tutorial skip button and improving recall hitboxes would make it perfect. Very very intense too hahah

Summoning Ritual by velvetlobster 2024-04-18T10:07:22Z

This submission has so much soul. It's so mechanically simple but it fit really well with the mood. I genuinely love the story and wanted to see how it ended. Great submission, I'd love to see this developed further, I think it has something special.

Streets of Mage! by Human Writes Code 2024-04-16T12:04:35Z

I love Tenticlor and its (their?) speaking pattern. For a mere mortal like me, 1000 seems totally impossible to achieve, but that's part of appeasing an eldritch god. Does anything happen when you achieve it? Otherwise, pretty fun arcade game with what's essentially an endless mode hahah. Also love how the player's essentially dancing to the music :dancer:

Summondiver by TheCze 2024-04-16T12:13:34Z

Extremely difficult, at least to begin with. Like the last commenter said, I also really like that there's a movement based attack. Perhaps decreasing the difficulty curve without upgrades? Getting one shot by the first enemy I came across felt a bit unforgiving. I love the art and vibe of the game though, nice submission :)

Ancestral by deformhead 2024-04-21T10:26:59Z

What a lovely little game. We actually explored a similar idea before settling on the one we did. You nailed the execution and the artstyle fit it well. Would've loved to see the introduction of some more mechanics, but understand the limitation of the jam. Would be interesting to see you develop this further! Great entry!

Bloodrites by ToC 2024-04-21T10:46:11Z

As someone who loved Age of War growing up, this was such a treat. I really enjoyed this, although I was a bit confused by the ransom mechanic at first. Really solid entry!

Ramen: Beyond Two Balls by Emty 2024-04-17T23:09:07Z

I LOVE the setting, character, atmosphere and mood. One of my favs, congrats on finishing the jam

Who Summoned It? by Tyler Law 2024-04-16T12:45:03Z

I'm seriously impressed by the amount of polish that's gone into this project. The characters have character (wow), the dialogue is fun and I like the unique theme interpretation. The only thing I had trouble with was that it felt a bit overwhelming at first, being presented with everything and not knowing where to start. But that's also part of the entire game concept, so rather a personal thing than anything else. Regardless, great submission :)

Summonion by KeithSwanger 2024-04-17T22:35:10Z

Honestly love it. Especially the soundscape, I really love the acapella summoning sound effect you created. Lovely art, one of my fav submissions so far.

SaaS :: Summoning as a Service by HolySparks 2024-04-17T22:53:02Z

Easily the best title in the entire jam I've seen so far. Love the concept, nice submission!

Sumo nin': Demolition Experts by Pandalk 2024-04-21T10:05:44Z

had a really good time with this game, always have a sweet spot for demolition type games, and this didn't disappoint. it's a fun take on the theme, and I kinda dig the simple artstyle. great submission :)

Siela by Gnum_ 2024-04-18T18:43:57Z

I think you have a great basis for a game mood-wise. It really draws you in. Gameplay-wise it was a bit lacking and felt like a five step fetch quest. Would have loved if you could explore the environment a bit more and perhaps add an enemy of some sort. Regardless, very nice entry - great job!

Don't Get Summoned! by busisen 2024-04-16T13:08:56Z

@jejkobb thanks for the comment! I agree that the introduction of some, especially the three words task are a bit lacking, tutorial wise. I'm glad you managed to get the hang of it!

and to everyone else, thanks for playing and the comments, glad you enjoyed it :)

Don't Get Summoned! by busisen 2024-04-17T10:34:26Z

@klose thank you! it was a pretty stressful weekend lol - managed to build a pretty decent window structure which made adding new things not super difficult.

Don't Get Summoned! by busisen 2024-04-18T09:53:36Z

@erik-tate thank you for the kind words! glad you enjoyed it

@frozenfire92 thanks! will do :) if you want a challenge, 7:39 is the unofficial wr for the game hahah - was lucky with getting the nuke task scripts for that to happen though

@icyyw thank you so much! was definitely a challenge trying to balance "fun" with having it feel like an office environment

@jake-g thanks jake! did the captchas not look similar to this for you? the captcha fonts just didn't load? for the captcha task, it's like any old-school captcha - you have to write the letters that show up. of course, if you can't see them at all that's a different story lol. they should definitely be included in the unity build though

image.png

@quinnster thanks a lot :) and we agree, some tasks are definitely harder. we tried making it so that every task didn't feel the same, sometimes you're a bit luckier than others depending on which you get

@zyntist I'm glad you found it fun :) and yeah hahah some tasks do feel a bit monotonous. tried to spice them up with space invaders (snake was also planned), but didn't have time for everything unfortunately

@kobato-games it's true that the tasks get a little overwhelming after a while. I agree that the berry task is the most difficult one, and as of right now you can't just write the prefixes, but you can write berries like acai and goji, etc. for the animal task, it actually specifically asks for animals starting with the letter S!! regardless, thank you so much for the thoughtful comment, appreciate all your feedback.

Don't Get Summoned! by busisen 2024-04-18T17:29:55Z

@jake-g I finally understood what you meant haha, I had copied the textinput from the captcha task to the three word-task and forgotten to change the placeholder text, which understandably causes confusion. I've fixed it in the latest build!

@keithswanger thank you so much keith, I really liked your game as well. and that's a very respectable score! as for the feedback sounds from task completion/failure - I kinda agree, and it was also something I didn't know how to best solve. Right now, every task/window is assigned a coworker, and they have a positive and negative sound depending on how well you did, but it's kinda hard to tell these apart. I actually changed all positive sounds to a more generic "success-sound" just now for testing, and while it's more clear, it also takes away the vibe of you doing tasks for other people in an office environment and "hearing their feedback". Not sure about the best solution, but keeping it as is for now. either way, appreciate the rating and comment :) edit: I changed the success sound to be more clear!

@kobato-games yep, you're right. it definitely gets easier over time. you learn quite quickly what every task does and requires of you and it turns into a more strategic game - which tasks to avoid, when to use the nuke scripts, and so on. but yeah, some tasks aren't always super clear.

Don't Get Summoned! by busisen 2024-04-21T10:02:07Z

@zerolarih thank you so much! I really enjoyed your game too!

@chiara-sanviti ditto, your group's game was incredible! such a fun, polished, complete experience. thanks a lot for the comment! It's true that it becomes a little repetitive, would've loved to implement a few other minigames as well, but ran out of time.

@pandalk @momod thank you :) and yes, the three word tasks are definitely the toughest ones, except for maybe the colour one. I always skip them too, when trying to score high. it's just better to focus your energy on the other tasks hahah. thanks a lot for the comments!

@nadia-pixel thanks a lot, office psycho is a fav for sure hahah

@syudzius @whenyoucantfindafriend thank you so much, glad you liked it!

Don't Get Summoned! by busisen 2024-04-21T15:02:11Z

@digitaliliad thanks for playing the game on stream, loved your reaction :)

Farm Fortress by zimonitrome 2024-04-16T10:16:14Z

Cute game with a fun puzzle element. I love the art and animations, the song is also a BOP. Have had it stuck in my head for 15 minutes now.

Hat vs Evil by minjutin 2024-04-17T10:29:59Z

I'm actually surprised I haven't seen this kind of towerdefense game before, where you essentially define how good your own towers are. Even after reading the rules and signing the rule-reading contract, it took me a little while to understand how important the meat parts are lol. I also like that failing a level doesn't reset anything, but rather just gives you another try immediately. Nice submission :)

SPELLBINDER by eugene-b 2024-04-21T09:58:22Z

saw your comment on our game and had to check this out after seeing the amazing artstyle. I'm seriously impressed by the art you managed to create in such a short amount of time. I have to admit, it took me a while to understand how all aspects of the game function. I really would have loved a little more visual feedback on my actions and maybe a short tutorial on how everything works, especially with the book. I totally understand that it's a big ask especially considering the short time limit. All in all, I'm very impressed, and I think you guys did a great job!

Moving In and Moving On by Artmuse62 2024-04-17T22:57:51Z

I really like this entry, and for one appreciate the fast movement speed hahah. When I first started it kinda surprised me, but it was perfect for the amount of movement that was required for the game. Love the atmosphere and mood - solid submission

Whiskers & Wings The Great Mouse Hunt by anaastaska 2024-04-21T10:18:07Z

Visually stunning, even the thumbnail alone got me hyped to play. Love the style blend with 2d and 3d. I'm really puzzled how you two managed to build all of these systems and graphics in such a short amount of time. Really impressed with this submission, great job :)

Chessummon by Def-Mane 2024-04-17T12:55:41Z

So glad you made a chess related game. Chess was also something we wanted to do for our game, but decided against it in the end. I love the idea of summoning chess pieces in this setting, and the art + sound design creates a really nice mood. Really enjoyed this, nice submission!

A Following Wind by digitaliliad 2024-04-21T15:11:20Z

What a lovely little game. Sound fits the art and gameplay perfectly, was a nice whole package. The only thing for me was that it scales in difficulty a bit too slowly. Would've loved for it to get even more intense as time went on. Really nice entry!

Fedora Fury by Vantalogic 2024-04-16T13:00:18Z

As insane and janky as this game is, it's honestly my favourite submission so far. It's so silly and exactly my humor lol, this game has so much soul. the homeless summon is super op, basically one shots all the dudes at the end. Anyways, I love this submission.

Here Kitty Kitty by Blecki 2024-04-17T22:38:28Z

I kinda love it, really think you have a good ground for a full jam game concept. Eiher way, pspsppsppsp

Get to the bottom by jk5000 2025-04-07T08:17:04Z

great submission! played it for a while with my roommate - the skill ceiling is surprisingly high. and agree with @thisyc - love the music!

Moos from the Depth of Space by notnasiul 2025-04-12T10:57:39Z

really well executed, nicely balanced - like others have said it gets intense especially towards the end but in a perfect way. the art is a great match - amazing entry, bookmarked it for later as well!

Cave of Gorbs by fusionnist 2025-04-07T10:11:44Z

it's actually insane how much you managed to do in such a short amount of time. love the art and the overall vibe. had similar issues like @psychomonster but nothing super serious. great entry!

Tidehold by outstar 2025-04-08T18:51:24Z

looks amazing, super polished! checked out the stream for a bit, very nice itch page!

Fear of Sea by UnidayStudio 2025-04-09T08:22:57Z

amazing looking game, almost looks like a AAA game, and all made in 72h is crazy, especially making it in your own engine. super impressive, great submission!

Focus Hunt by dhim 2025-04-12T08:08:12Z

thanks for adding me to the list on gh! love this take on the theme, and the artstyle fits really nicely. I would have probably removed/marked items that have been found already like someone else mentioned above, but it really a minor thing. solid submission, nice job!

Into the Depths by pres2300 2025-04-07T08:34:45Z

hey, nice submission! the sound effects caught me off guard at the start hahah but I really like em. like you mentioned, it's easy to get pinned by the enemies - maybe disabling colliders during jumps or something could be a simple fix. background also spawns a little bit too late when moving downwards I think. didn't find myself needing to jump very much. solid submission regardless, I like the animations!

Mind the Depth by Flightless 2025-04-07T09:44:17Z

unbeatable atmosphere and mood. super cool art project - love the music as well. enjoyed checking out your photography work as well!

See the Light by DeadByDeath 2025-04-07T09:54:35Z

meditative experience, super chill. did you make the music? it's great. nothing seems to happen when reaching 0 hp though. regardless, nice entry!

Puppeteer by benskca 2025-04-07T10:20:34Z

this is actually incredible, my favourite submission so far. super impressive tech. very intuitive after the short tutorial. the only thing I would add is to communicate that space pauses time - took me a min to figure that out by myself in the level where that's first required. but other than that, super cool idea, great execution, solid submission. great job!

Igbi Goes Deep by Jared Saizdelamora 2025-04-07T19:50:12Z

the music in this game is unreal, every piece is an absolute bop, I've never been so impressed by music in a game jam game before, can't get over it, never heard of mixcraft before but this game on its own made me try it out lol

I had some similar issues as @benskca though, specifically regarding permadeath and the inventory slots in the web build of the game + font was pretty hard to read. I was also stuck in the hub for a few minutes before realizing I could just continue going right. I really dig the project as a whole, super impressive to get this done within 48h

The Well of Secrets by coatline 2025-04-09T08:33:20Z

this was actually so good. really nice usage of light and sound design. great submission!

DeepFrame 9 by JavaSaurus 2025-04-09T08:48:25Z

met you at the stream yesterday, had a lot of fun with this one, and love that you made it available on mobile as well - works insane well on a touch device! super impressive!

Sea Devil by Tom3y 2025-04-07T14:02:50Z

actually insanely good graphics in such a short amount of time, hats off for that! I liked it, bit of a meditative experience. a minor comment is that the audio is a little low, but maybe intentional. nice submission :) :fish:

Dead & Buried by Frogravity 2025-04-07T19:55:34Z

I love the presentation and overall feel (much thanks to the graphics and audio, and John), and it was surprisingly engaging once it got started - also appreciate you putting the palette in the description, got it bookmarked now :) great submission!

Antz vs Plantz by Blue Pin Studio 2025-04-09T20:01:55Z

this is such a fun and polished game, holy. sound design is cozy, new elements are introduced gradually, and it's just overall really really fun. would definitely love to see this being developed further. super innovative! amazing submission, honestly one of the best I've played

Faith-e-vator by BadPiggy 2025-04-08T18:58:58Z

super fun entry! very polished and love the animations, great submission! looks awesome on itch

The chronicles of Mr. Marmo by Wouter52 2025-04-12T08:15:59Z

am I participating in the extinction of innocent sea animals?? :sob: but man this is so well done, love the unique artstyle (and sound effects lol), fitting theme, crazy amount of levels for a weekend project. really enjoyed this one, intuitive and the pipe puzzles were weirdly satisfying to solve. nice submission!

Help! I'm Trapped on The Torment Trapeze. by Yossarian 2025-04-07T08:11:33Z

this is so good! love a lot about this, esp. the past life system - makes it a little easier over time without making it easy whatsoever. great submission!

Help! I'm Trapped on The Torment Trapeze. by Yossarian 2025-04-07T11:14:35Z

keep coming back to this game lol, simple but so fun

best title of any entry this jam

Doom Scroll Hell by XOREAXEAX 2025-04-07T10:02:21Z

love this interpretation of the theme. the illustrations are actually amazing. took me a minute to figure out the core gameplay, mostly my own fault. crazy that you did the music all by yourself too. 10/10 captions. great entry!

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-07T08:03:44Z

thank you so much @yossarian, really appreciate it - and yes! the balancing kinda sorted itself out after some tweaking :)

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-07T09:35:39Z

Thanks a lot for the feedback @frogman! 29 is super impressive! and yeah, the drill is kind of a yolo relic, hard to stay alive for long with it but can drop you down quickly. really appreciate the kind words.

I agree with you about starting with some kind of relic - I considered giving the player a random choice at the start of the game similar to how peglin does it, but ran out of time. Also considered having the steel boots relic be just a default game mechanic, but that would have made it a little too easy maybe.

and regarding the crabs, them stacking and standing still are definitely a bug, but feels a little crab-like, that's why the enemies are crabs :P

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-07T13:03:50Z

thanks @protzz! went ahead and rated you in the new categories. can I ask, what makes the game feel unfair to you? wondering if it's something I can patch quickly

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-07T13:35:11Z

@protzz true, that happens sometimes :P the boulders, spikes, items and relics help at least a little in defeating the :crab:s

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-07T13:38:22Z

thanks @reaktori and @mcramon! I agree, due to the random nature of the game some runs especially feel a bit tough. I made a minor adjustment just now that decreases the difficulty ramping speed, appreciate the feedback

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-07T17:41:34Z

hahhah @leparlon I was scrambling to create sound effects before the deadline, that was the best I could come up with at the time :P

and I fully agree, it's a frustration for me as well. I made it so that the enter button also closes the shop, which is a bit better, but it's true that it ideally should be any character. actually guess what, while writing this I quickly pushed a patch so arrow and space keys also close the chesta! let me know what you think!

thank you so much for the kind words! it was originally going to be more of a mining/digging game but I pivoted away from that, changed the main instrument in beepbox and this is what I ended up with lol

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-07T19:37:17Z

@lukystudios thanks a lot! I had that early in development actually, but the game felt a little to easy since you basically become invincible in some scenarios with them. with good timing and planning you can get yourself out of a lot of sticky situations without the boots!

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-07T21:24:27Z

thank you @andruid! used react for the chests/game over screen, as well as all ui (and tooltips) + game intro! architecturally it ended up being kinda weird, will probably not do it again lol

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-09T19:41:50Z

thanks for checking it out @coatline, glad you enjoyed it! it definitely tends to go better when you take it more slowly! checked your game out too, super nice!

thanks @javasaurus! I agree it does get a little repetitive, would have extended it a little if I had more time :P

@bad-fetus thanks for the comment! it definitely has some balance issues, and it's funny you think that the boots are underpriced. I think I agree actually, but most people seem to want it as a base mechanic :P I get both points

@fusionnist 41 meters is amazing! thanks for checking it out :)

@thisyc I agree with you about it feeling slightly jarring to always have to use the mouse and considered implementing key maps to all of the slots in the shop, would definitely have done it had I had more time. loved your game!

hey @outstar, really enjoyed your game and loved watching you play mine during the stream. really appreciated the feedback, and there are definitely some bugs haha

@midnightmist thank you so much for checking it out! watching someone else play puts some design choices into perspective for sure, really appreciate it

and to everyone else, thank you so much for checking it out and commenting!

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-12T08:25:00Z

@blue-pin-studio thank you so much! loved your game

@wouter52 thanks for checking it out! nice catch, yeah burrow is a game that my friend and I used to play a lot many years ago hahah - love the concept but it's just ridiculously hard, and I've been wanting to make my own version with some better upgrades to speed up the gameplay a little. I strongly considered adding the depth meter, and it was on my todo-list, but it sadly didn't make the cut. would have been cool to add different biomes and enemies as well!

@dhim thanks for checking it out and putting it on the list! yeah a roguelite like you're describing could have fit better perhaps - I originally had a different, more minecraft-y idea that just ended up not being super fun so I had to pivot. regarding the music, it's definitely a polarising part of this project hahha. sadly it's the best I could come up with given the constraints

@deadbydeath thanks for checking it out! first time doing pixel art so I'm really happy you liked it.

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-12T14:36:16Z

@yiraa thanks for checking it out, that's the intended effect :P

@coderaurus thanks for pointing that out - I reduced all sound effects, especially the sounds that play when you restart the game. what happened was that the try again-button shut all entities down, meaning they played their hit sound lol. no more! hope it's better now

Crabs in a Bucket by busisen 2025-04-14T12:02:06Z

thank you @borabee! the mechanic is actually very much inspired by an older game called "Burrow" which I played a lot when I was younger - I tried reinventing it as a roguelike with slightly lower difficulty and impactful items/relics. Never came very far in that game :P actually started off this jam with a very different idea which looked like this, but the game loop wasn't very fun so I had to pivot: SCR-20250414-mkye.png

thank you so much @coleslaughter - was awesome watching you play it live. it is pretty tough to begin with, but once you get the hang of it you can get super far with the right relic and item choices!

same to you @deadroach, super fun watching you play! the boots are super strong and kinda change up the whole strategy. thank you so much for your comment and checking it out, good luck with your streams going forward!

Depths Help by LeoAtopos 2025-04-07T10:07:32Z

this is WAY deeper of a game than meets the eye. thought it would just be a basic layer sorting thing but damn. don't want to spoil it for anyone but I can say I really enjoyed it. great submission!

Deep Drop by bad_fetus 2025-04-07T21:30:57Z

+1 for sucking at this game. always love me a foddy-like, I did yours and am weirdly drawn to the eclectic artstyle. nice submission!

Wishing Evil by andruid 2025-04-07T08:26:00Z

had to check it out because the game title made me laugh. thought I'd be at a disadvantage because I'm using a trackpad, but figured out how to cheese it: you can hold down the shoot key and it fires rapidly - doing this you can move the mouse around quickly and stay alive forever pretty much. got to 355 then they stopped spawning. they also mainly appeared in the bottom right after 150 or so, which made it easier. regardless, awesome job on a first submission!!

I want to try it, but there are no links!

Echo-Of-Fallens by caffeinetrip 2025-04-12T22:06:56Z

echoing (get it?) what others have said here, the atmosphere is outstanding. honestly would love to see you develop it further, I think the combat could feel a bit better and expanded upon? impressed you managed to create it solo just over the weekend regardless. super nice submission!

. by protzz 2025-04-07T10:25:01Z

super impressive job for a 48h jam. I thought about inscryption and balatro before reading that they were inspirations haha, makes sense. beyond impressed. like @rinevard said, it's a bit luck heavy, but it's such a minor thing in the context of the game itself and what you managed to create. love the graphics and mood - you should enable those ratings!

. by protzz 2025-04-12T09:38:13Z

I keep coming back to this entry and randomly playing it lol, I really love it - also just wanted to mention that for compo submissions, sharing source code is required according to the rules and I couldn't find a link to it. I'd love to check out some of the code!

. by protzz 2025-04-14T11:20:03Z

@quasilyte it's not bullying or an having an elitist attitude, but I agree some comments have been quite inflammatory.

- Generative AI was clearly used for the cover image, which is still up on itch (check the cards), and likely other illustrations SCR-20250414-lpts.png - Project files date back to weeks before the jam - Game description was clearly written by AI, and including "made everything in 48 hours, pixel-by-pixel, with no sleep" is just a smokescreen - Game doesn't really fit the jam theme? - OP has doubled down several times that all assets were made from scratch, but I even found the card pack used after a quick google search: https://drawsgood.itch.io/8bit-deck-card-assets

*"Now, about your suggestion that I should move my game to Jam or Extra — that’s just unfair. Those categories allow for longer development time, bigger teams, and use of third-party assets. I did everything myself in two days, followed the rules, and made something I’m proud of. It wouldn’t make any sense to lump my game in with entries that had more time, more resources, and more people. That wouldn’t be fair — to me or to the other devs in those categories."*

It's very ironic that they decided to post this, when it's exactly what they've done themselves. So it's not about being unfair or overly scrutinizing. This wasn't a mistake - OP made an attempt to purposefully deceive other participants of the jam, and lying when rightfully getting called out for it. This would have been a wonderful entry for the jam category, seriously. It is a great game, and clearly has a lot of potential. Great hook, mood, game loop. I hope they continue developing the game and release it on Steam, I'd honestly buy it.

. by protzz 2025-04-14T11:50:50Z

@quasilyte that's fair, I don't really care either (maybe more about the cover), and for the theme it's definitely subjective - didn't mean it as a wrong necessarily, just something that raised suspicions for me. doubling down on creating everything from scratch in 48h but using asset packs and likely working on it for longer while trying to hide it are the main issues people have I believe.

Grip of the Abyss by McRamon 2025-04-07T13:49:26Z

poor guy is just destined to die. bro needs to work on his repair skills

got a solid 268. nice entry! I like the problem of figuring out the best pathing to solve the problems showing up. graphics are 10/10

DungeonDescent by thisyc 2025-04-09T09:50:57Z

"and a mobile game I played over 10 years ago." haha these are the best inspirations

actually loved this, the "mm" sound effects are etched into my brain now. the gameplay loop is very addicting and surprisingly balanced (although my first runs ended quite quickly lol), which is tough to achieve in such a short dev period. the ui and font choice could use some work, and I wish you could hover over passives/trinkets after you open them from the chest to see their effects. you could definitely polish this up a little and release it as a full game, the juice and base idea is incredible - spent most on this than any other game so far. nice job!

DungeonDescent by thisyc 2025-04-09T19:08:45Z

came back and absolutely broke it. coin scaling is nuts, like hundreds of level ups per round lol imagel.png

Depths of the Deity by LukyStudios 2025-04-07T20:36:11Z

very impressive to get all of this done in 12 hours!! actually really fun once I got the hang of it. like others have mentioned, what you can do could maybe be communicated a little better? regardless, super solid entry, nice job!

The Hole by dstoc 2025-04-07T13:28:00Z

made it all the way through :sunglasses: nice submission! my biggest achievement: an albatross on hole 9. music was indeed a bop. sometimes the ball just stops entirely when landing despite having enough momentum to continue - but other than that, great job!

Save the Queen by SinGer 2025-04-07T14:22:47Z

took a min to understand the controls, but I like the strategic pathing aspect of it. controls could be streamlined a little like @daandruff mentioned, but overall I enjoyed it. nice submission!

SATURATION by swooty 2025-04-07T14:24:54Z

echoing what others are saying about the game flow feeling a little slow. but I absolutely love the graphics and mood/atmosphere, you nailed those. from the images alone it looks steam ready. nice submission!

Let Me Check My Pockets! by dhdorr 2025-04-07T14:08:16Z

love the take on the theme lmao. I like the graphics and audio, and the game runs super smoothly. really good first entry, great job!

Debts in the Depths by Reaktori 2025-04-07T20:31:16Z

This is the type of game that makes me realize that I will never win with my own game. I am beyond impressed that you managed to do ALL of this in 48h, by yourself, that's absolutely nuts. I saw on itch that you have been wanting to make a game like this for a while, so I'll mainly go over problems/issues I faced during my playthrough because the overall idea, polish and feel is incredible. I can't express how good this submission is. Easily my favourite so far. I played through all levels.

During the first few levels I didn't realise I could use my mage to shoot, and the difficulty felt challenging but reasonable. After I realized though, I never had to think about my plays. How investing works isn't really communicated in any way, so I didn't know what it did at the start, but man, it's is absolutely op. All levels were super easy when I just spent (almost) all of my money on investing each shop. Just collecting all the gold from the investments when you've bought a lot of it took like a minute each round, was getting 20k+ at the boss. Investing definitely needs nerfing, but I also felt like the mana attacks were also quite strong. Maybe they just felt this way because the levels were so easy with all the money I saved up.

Regardless, super impressive. Definitely 5/5

Depths of Color by threegoldeneggs 2025-04-07T20:47:06Z

what a nice entry! love your take on the theme, audio was spot on and felt like walking around at a museum. sadly for me (macbook), the eyes of the cat were instantly visible against the rest of the white painting for like 7 of the 10 paintings. I also found that it's possible to spam click the cat to get extra points after you've found it. overall though, definitely one of the best vibes of the games I've reviewed and easily gets a 5/5 in mood.

played this while watching the buriedthings stream, loved the sfx

The Sound Store by Jejkobb 2026-04-24T20:12:17Z

Thank you so much for all of the kind words 🌸

@lllarso all of those details were made for ppl like you, tysm

@twaerd I agree with you, the signal hint is probably visible a bit too short :P

@strega we’ve heard some complaints about the knobs and they’re valid. we had a visual idea of it, placement and size was probably not perfect, but we didn’t really have time to test out different options. originally we were actually also gonna have a pitch slider, but that didn’t really fit so well with the gameplay nor on the counter in the game

@skyeward thank you for the play through on stream, was super fun to see, you weren’t even that bad! and for the comments, love that you engage with all the features and thought that went into the game. I felt a solid tutorial was almost necessary for this game since it’s not immediately clear what to do :P

@oxnh you are absolutely right that the actual sound waves sound horrible. the saws/squares are soft-clipped with tanh so they don't sound horrible (they did for a few hours) and peaks normalized and some other things. also about the hard customers, you can do it quite systematically if you do one cassette at a time, if you do both at the same time it is pretty impossible haha. can you believe we first thought of having up to 3 signals mixed?

@kalabhers nice score!! I have never run into the knob sprites glitching out :o I hope it was resettable. glad you liked it :)

@rafa-fiedo really good run, almost on the high scores! and you’re correct, it gets the results from a free convex database

@kr0tyara heard you loud and clear, the knob controls is the most common complaint we’ve gotten haha - and you’re right about the usb, we actually joked we would only make it work half the time, but I guess we kinda achieved it somehow anyway!

tysm for playing @gecko64 and the feedback! solid score as well 👀

The Sound Store by Jejkobb 2026-05-05T07:17:49Z

thank you so much @kanity for the thoughtful feedback, we really did our best to combine physical and digital art in a way that feels natural. really happy you liked it, and nice score! for the sounds, most of it is just simple recordings of lamp buttons and tape that we found in my apartment :P - I fully agree that the difficulty jump to hard mode is steep, it's hard to reason about how they change when there are two signals activated at once. if you'd like to give it another shot, highly recommend doing one signal at a time!

and tysm @mamboman and @nozomu57 - and nozomu57 I'm glad it worked well for you! in the first few hours we even tried doing 3 waves together, that was wayyyy too much though lol
