I suck at this game. I like what you've done here, though. But I am not built for it.
Hahah darn you!! Finally got to the long ice platform and it sent me allll the way back to white! I 'll never be able to beat it - but I had such a fun time!
Of course, the experience of falling is in some ways similar to 'getting over it' or 'jump king' and whatnot - but looking down to watch your failure occur slowly in full 3d has a certain 'spice' to it that the 2d games don't. Was definitely squirming in my chair every time the realization hit that I wasn't going to make the edge.
Some of my favorite details: * using audio rather than a power bar was a nice touch - feels more visceral somewhow * the music and visuals give it an almost 'LSD dream emulator' feeling - love it * inchworming up to an edge with little hops is so funny * when I saw the ice blocks my stomach dropped, haha, 'oh dear god no'
fantastic work!
+1 for sucking at this game. always love me a foddy-like, I did yours and am weirdly drawn to the eclectic artstyle. nice submission!
The game is probably not for me, but I was impressed I got better and could jump on several platforms before falling and giving up :)
I've never been a huge fan of these kinds of rage games, but I was very interested in the mechanic of launching yourself up instead of using a more traditional move-and-jump control. I think it worked really well for this game! Though, like I said, I spent about 5 minutes playing but couldn't make it past the first ice block.
Turns out I am not that good at video games after all.
This was a fun entry! I imagined myself a little frog hopping between these platforms. The physics felt nice and actually the jump distance/power felt weirdly intuitive. Nice job!
I had apprehension when starting the game, but actually I had some fun playing it ! I almost passed the last ice block after several attempts (but I miscalculated my jump uugh).
It takes a little bit of time to setup the mouse sensibility and to understand the mechanics, but once it's done it's actually pretty intuitive, and each jump need a full focus.
I think that it's on purpose that the jump was only based on sound, but maybe if you had some time it would have been nice to add an accessibility option that add a regular jump bar, for people with disability or simple who can't properly listen (no headset, noisy place...) while playing games ?
Anyway, good work, that a nice take on the "raging game" genre !
Fun little rage game. The ice blocks are fun but evil! Didn't get that far but i see the appeal for other people.
It's good that there is a change in mouse sensitivity. I would like to see this mechanic in a more lively form, with the environment, with the development of mechanics
Just arc jumping with no air control feels a little stifling to play out but it's an interesting concept. I think this wants an indicator of your path or more of a hint there, it's a brutally difficult game (which can be fine) but there's not as much bringing me back to it. Audio design is pretty good though.
It's hard and I suck. Good idea tho!
Pretty cool, I really liked the music!.
This is pretty fun, the charged jump was easy to understand with the sound effect. It worked well and when I died it felt like a skill issue and not a game issue so that's good. I really didn't enjoy the music or the art though. Maybe it was intentional cause this game is supposed to piss me off, but the platforms having the same texture made them hard to distinguish against each other. The music started off strong with the drums, but when the bass and lead started it just gave me a weird uncanny feeling like I was listening to something in a dream. Maybe that was what you were going for but it's just annoying to listen to. So maybe a music volume control would be good so I can still listen to the jump charge noise.
That was a major rant but do remember the actual game part of your game is fun. Outside of the jam this game would be great with a bit more polish.
@oxnh Haha, I assure you there was no intent to piss you off with the audio and visuals - it's a combination of my poor artistic skills and limited time, especially since I ended up not starting until around end of day 1. I'm glad you enjoyed the gameplay itself and I agree that a ton of polish is needed if I ever work on the game further. Thanks a lot for the feedback!
Nice frog simulator ^_^
This is extremely hard and frustrating. An excellent rage game.
