The voice sample is neat, and the graphics are pretty on point for this style game. Well done!

clement-k 2022-10-03 08:46

Simple and and nice concept! I like the graphical style and the switching of the wings depending of the direction. Nice to the audio effects included as well!

savorytoast 2022-10-03 12:07

Really cool!

I found a more or less consistent strategy and actually set the WR.

crocidb 2022-10-03 12:52

I like it! Simple and effective. Graphics are nice and it's quite fun. Good job!

stephen321 2022-10-03 12:54

I like the audio. Great job putting in the effort.

steffo 2022-10-03 14:11

The F14's controls are a bit weird, in my opinion: it moves for a while even when the key is not pressed, as if it checked for its release once every second (?)

The online leaderboards were a nice touch: more LD games should have one!

bridgeonastick 2022-10-03 21:32

The movement feels a bit floaty, the visuals are really nice to look at, although I can't really see the enemy bullets. Nice job!

phillip-scott 2022-10-04 10:04

I cannot unsee the water seam :( pretty. Hard to see the enemy bullets

The aircraft sprites are nice and the game feels complete - good entry!

lazzor 2022-10-04 10:17

Hi there! Cool game, I really like the animations on the jet! Nice touch with the online leaderboard, even though I certainly won't remain on my number 10 spot for long! :D

kromeboy 2022-10-04 10:18

@phillip-scott yea, i got some issue with scale that I realized only when all the art was done so the background texture is a little too short. I tried to hammer the problem but I couldn't fix it

borgi 2022-10-04 11:23

Well done putting something together for the compo! I like the charming graphics! The shoot sounds were a bit too clucky for my taste, but they are fine :D Impressive to implement an ONLINE highscore system in there in the compo category! But I really don't get the point of the timer countdown - it felt like I am waiting constantly 6.5 seconds after every wave for the next. Maybe the planes from the current wave could come back on top and then I have 10 seconds to defeat them all? Enemy bullets are also not very visible, I think they should be in bright colors and very disctinct from everything else (also they might be too small). Anyways well done and good job! :D

henrik-ganard 2022-10-04 11:29

Great game and the genius trap with an online high score list is perfect. On to the constructive part. My problem was that I had too little time to really do anything when I saw the planes. My tactics instead were to spread so many bullets ahead of the oncoming group and then try to be still in the middle to blast a way through them. If the play area (camera zoom) had been double or triple in size, you could have moved around the enemy in another way. That said great game. I could barely stop myself from playing and sadly, I was 5 points from reaching the high score list. =)

dfyzet 2022-10-04 11:35

Excellent quality work!

Brings back the same atmosphere of the old games :) The sounds are well chosen. And adding a leader board is a great solution

kromeboy 2022-10-04 11:48

@borgi @henrik-ganard @dfyzet

Yea the scoreboard is a staple of my last Ludum Dare games. Once implemented is fairly easy to replicate it in every game you make, and is the single best thing to keep people playing

dahut 2022-10-04 12:36

I concur, the scoreboard is actually a very neat feature ! The gameplay is cool, though if I had to nitpick, I would say that it would have been nice to have a portrait resolution rather than landscape, so that you have more time to see the enemies coming ... then again, maybe it would have made the game too easy ?

Anyway, nice game :)

kromeboy 2022-10-04 12:57

@dahut yes, probably the best solution is to make the game left to right rather then down to up. Portrait resolution is kind of a problem on PC and web, but the scroll down to up is a key element of the 1942 style games

annie-owl 2022-10-04 15:00

Look mom, I'm at the leader board!

Nice simple game. It was a chill experience, despite the subject matter

The only problem I've had with the game is enemy projectiles. It's really hard to see them (because of their color and size), and it took me several death to even notice them on the screen.

matt-ravenhall 2022-10-04 15:56

Really solid entry!

Enemy projectiles are a little hard to see, and the initial voice over isn't muted if you press 'Audio Off'.

Otherwise, great stuff!

busisen 2022-10-04 16:23

If I found this as a kid I would no-life it lol. Absolutely love the art! Easiest 5/5 on the art. Simple game, but it worked for me :) Great job!

kromeboy 2022-10-04 16:46

@matt-ravenhall I had an issue with the audio mute on WebGL, that I had to mute every single sound source.

I didn't mute the voice because is not repeated in successive games (or at least it shouldn't repeat)

walaber 2022-10-04 17:19

nice work. I couldn't get the game to play on WebGL, the "Play" button was greyed out. Windows download worked tho. The speed of the bullets and the rate of fire felt really slow in comparison to my overpowered modern fighter jet :D

kromeboy 2022-10-04 17:48

@walaber yea there is sometime some issue with the WebGL that I wasn't able to riproduce

Thanks for Playing!

ccollider 2022-10-04 20:12

Really neat, cool that you got a leaderboard in!

cooz 2022-10-04 21:20

140 for my best run! Nice one!

eugenik 2022-10-05 02:54

good job :).

skel3ton 2022-10-05 17:30

a typical shooter with fighters. I would have appreciated more creativity in the enemies, but otherwise I played it quite well

kromeboy 2022-10-05 18:07

@skel3ton While the enemy could only be the Zero (for the title of the game, and the movie by witch is inspired) I had to cut for time most of the planed movement of the enemy planes, like zig-zaging or chasing.

shibaya 2022-10-07 22:30

Cool game with nice sound design! Good job :D

serxiolas 2022-10-09 00:31

Nice entry! I missed some bigger bullets for better visual feedback but fun to play!

diego-escalante 2022-10-09 22:50

There's a little bit of waiting between each wave, but when the wave comes, it really does. Well-rounded game, good job!

cyberfrank 2022-10-10 10:22

A lot of fun and bonus points for the awesome retro graphics! Would've been fun to be able to kill more enemies during each wave but I guess that would require slightly different level dimensions. One issue I had with the web version was that I couldn't click the 'play' button since it was hidden behind the tutorial panel at the start (most likely due to my screen size). No issues with the Windows version though!

unless-games 2022-10-10 12:33

Managed to get to third place on the leaderboard. (`Michelle` needs to be stopped)

I second that the bullets should be more visible and maybe zooming out a bit would allow for more varied enemy patterns.

Solid entry!

kromeboy 2022-10-10 13:51

@cyberfrank in the web version is possible that your browser was slightly zoomed in? (125% could cause this issue)

cyberfrank 2022-10-10 13:56

@kromeboy yeah my laptop screen has DPI scaling set to 125% so that was probably it!

falk-hoeppner 2022-10-13 21:14

Solid entry, and as a number of people have already indicated the leader board is a fantastic idea to keep people playing. Good execution, though having a larger field of view would add to the game a good bit, as would a background track. Not that it needed either of those things to keep me playing
