Really cool idea and vibes! Also the graphics + audio looks very polished :) It's just not really clear to me how to do the puzzle in the top right

Chess with summoning as a twist is friggin brilliant!
The real time chess-ish theme with capturing your opponents pieces to get them as your own was nice and made a clear game loop. The atmosphere with the graphics and music were pretty neat too. I'm not sure the puzzle is working - the instructions say click and drag but it doesn't. I think some of the cards like the lightning/death card might be a little too powerful. Overall I had fun
cool animations, but a bit heavy fireball animation. But vfx realy good!
Really nice game! I love the idea of chess that you incorporated!
Really cool idea, I love it.
heyyy! there is always a chess game somewhere no matter the theme. I really like the art style and music of this game, it took me a while to realize how to do the puzzle, I was trying to move the pieces to the center because it looked empty (in my first attempt the empty piece was at the center) lol. the game is pretty fun, you totally butchered chess pieces placement. the puzzle is quite difficult though, I'd often die while so close to solving it I think you should make it a bit easier if you go for a V1.1 release. other than that the game is pretty fun, and that inferior old man sure likes to talk a lot.
This was pretty good. I'm not sure if it was due to the randomness, but the first game I got absolutely destroyed, and the second game I won super easily.
Solving the sliding piece puzzle in the corner during a real-time game is actually a great idea, because you're juggling multiple small tasks that aren't difficult by themselves, but become challenging when you're constantly task-switching.
I think giving some reason to be more aggressive early on might help improve the game. During my second game, I sat there and just waited for the enemy to get close to my home row, then summoned pawns and instantly killed them. At that point, I had so many pieces on the board that the opponent couldn't do anything about it, and I won.
I think real time chess is a cool idea. For a jam, I think it's a great game! The music makes it really epic.
So glad you made a chess related game. Chess was also something we wanted to do for our game, but decided against it in the end. I love the idea of summoning chess pieces in this setting, and the art + sound design creates a really nice mood. Really enjoyed this, nice submission!
@kosta777 Thank you for the feedback!! I know; the puzzle controls can be a little odd. It's something I wish I had time to polish up a bit more. Basically, you need to click and drag one piece to one of the nearby empty slots, but sometimes It can feel a little finnicky :/
@argensis thank you!! Im glad the game loop was obvious, unfortunately I ran out of time to properly balance the death and lightning cards, I agree they may be a tad more powerful than intended
This is awesome! The music slaps and there is an unbelievable amount of polish!! The tutorial is very well laid out but I had a problem interacting with the summoner circle - it looked like I should be able to move the pieces around like a puzzle but it didn't work (I'm playing in chrome). Otherwise very interesting gameplay :)
Summoning chess pieces is a cool idea. The CPU seems to kind of steam roll you though if they just a small lead. The visuals are great and the music is cool. Would have been cool if the wizards had some sort of cool power up once you get to about 2 hearts just to give a last chance kind of play. Overall great game and had lots of fun.
I played this game way more than I intended too. Really fun! Summoning chess was a nice idea and the way you implemented it was great!
The music and sound effects were great, especially the bgm! A bit loud though... The visuals were simple but really good. The whole magical aesthetic was really nice.
The ai was strange? It wasn't bad but it kept saying that I will pay for this yet it did nothing different.
As I said, really fun! If you ever wish to add more to this game in the future let me know!

Overall I liked the concept of this game, it was well timed and the pieces worked as expected on the board.
The summoning circle was very difficult to get working and wasn't explained in the game well, but I liked the concept of adding a second task that had to be micromanaged along with the board.
I couldn't figure out which pieces could combine if any. And there were a few spots where it forced you into making a decision where it would have been nice to be able to back out, although that could intentional as a rule of chess is often where you touch a piece and have to move it
Very fun game. Nice humor element, the graphics are on point. The UI and rules were intuitive enough to understand once I got going, which was appreciated. Having each piece have its own cooldown and having it be more real-time rather than turn-based was a nice design choice. Some really fun ideas in here! Nice work
Great entry! Took a little bit to figure out some of the UI/interaction elements, but once I figured it out it was off to the races. Our entry was nominally similar to yours, but executed completely differently - I love being able to see the same idea come out in such totally dissimilar ways. The aesthetics were great - graphics were exactly right for what was needed, and the music/sound were chill and matched the vibe well. The sense of humor really aligned with my own - the line about the wizard's choice of headwear line got an audible chuckle from me. Nice work!
Good job on this entry ! The game is interesting, visuals are great !
Chess pieces works almost as intended, we can take opponent pieces and movements are limited to avoid going to the opposite map too fast. Something i'm not sure if it's a bug or not, I was able to take opponent pieces with some of my pieces even though it couldn't go to the opponent location. By doing so, the opponent piece die and my piece stay at his place instead of taking the opponent place.
Also, I could summon a piece on top of another piece. By doing so, the first summoned piece got glitched and couldn't be moved anymore.
The little puzzle at the top right was a bit inintuitive haha, I was clicking every pieces trying to move them on what I thought was empty spots, but it was actually the dark piece that was supposed to go at the middle of the circle. Though I still managed to move the pieces on my 2nd run and complete the puzzle :) !
Nice Game! I liked the idea!
I think this game looks beautiful and the music and sound effects are top-notch! It's easy to get into but quite hectic. I was defeated 3 times in a row but then I persevered and finally had a victory. The puzzle in the top right is unbeatable for me though, lol. I just can't play chess and a puzzle at the same time, but the idea is interesting. Good job!
Neat concept. Instructions are a bit unclear but after a few rematches, I got the hang of it and was able to fight back against my intellectually inferior opponent 🧙♂️. I could not figure out how to do the puzzle, maybe Im missing something?
@oldmanjoe9 thank you so much for the amazing feedback !! The only cards you can combine are the cooldown card and any of the piece cards, they reduce cooldown of the chess pieces so you can move them sooner. I had planned out many additional combinations but didn’t have time :/ oh well, all part of the jam!
Overall very cool concept and idea, however to fully enjoy the game it lacks bit better and intuitive controls. However this is barelly a complaint as to polish everything in the timeframe of the jam is usually not possible :) Good job
Very nice visually and very intersting idea and take on both the theme and chess. Very nice!
Interesting idea. I was very confused even after playing it a couple of times. Could not figure out how to make the rune puzzle work, it seems like it's 9 pieces and none of them can slide anywhere? It's surprising that enemy pawns can attack backwards and knights can attack in straight lines.
