LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Gelato Drift by thomz12 2022-10-04T22:10:37Z

Fun use of the theme and the ice cream truck music really adds to the fun of the game. Only criticism is I am used to driving games where you'd be able to drive over grassy fields or concrete so it took a moment for me to realize that they were impassable.

Game Name by Strega 2022-10-04T22:33:22Z

Of the games I have reviewed so far this has by far been my favorite. You've nailed the theme and made something that humorously relates to our experience (I am bad at both the sleep minigame and IRL sleep during a jam lol)

Destroy Blocks by mdotedot 2022-10-04T22:16:28Z

A neat take on Tetris. Would have been great if the pieces moved on the point at which I grabbed them and if I could still see the grabbed piece when it overlapped existing pieces (maybe when placed they could have a slightly darker color).

What's the rules? by Pusheeneiro 2022-10-04T23:11:26Z

I can tell this was inspired by the "Impossible" type games back in the day of Flash games. Couldn't figure out the vegetable one and didn't feel like trying it too many more times. Would also be nice if the ones that had a failure condition for not acting (like the plane and balloon one) gave a bit more leeway, but then again this is similar to how those "Impossible" type games were like so I won't hold it against you.

The Goose Bureau by Tricky_Fat_Cat 2022-10-03T23:20:20Z

The in-character sales pitch you've written here intrigued me and it seems like a decent puzzle game. Unfortunately I was not smart enough to figure out how to progress through the second level.

Rockatoo by AdamCYounis 2022-10-04T23:21:24Z

The music is the clear highlight here. Well done. I'm still not sure if I understood the unplanned moves bit though. I didn't even notice the move icons displayed on the top before and thought you could just do any move.

Witchy Sketchy Alchemy by Bruyère Alice 2022-10-04T22:49:35Z

Great artwork and fun game. My only complaint is that sometimes I would spend all 10 seconds restocking and never finding the right ingredients in time. Would have been nice if it was pseudo-RNG and guaranteed that you'd find the right ingredient within a couple restocks at most.

Poda Wants a Statue by Doot 2022-10-04T22:42:00Z

Fantastic game! Very simple mechanics but is also great for someone like me with a mind for optimization. Art is also very cute and well done. Proud of my first try at 170 years (I definitely over-stocked my resource pile).

A Handy Job by 0X_VOID_X0 2022-10-04T22:57:03Z

Oh man is it tricky to coordinate those two hands. Great idea for the game and some good humor added on top too

Satellite commander by Henrik Ganard 2022-10-04T00:00:12Z

This is a great game. Took a few tries to get hang of it and to create stable orbits and once you've got that figured out, you have to keep track of all the chaos around you. Had a bit of trouble orienting myself with the controls, I think I would have preferred if the controls were based on where I saw the satellite in world space rather than the local orientation of it.

Acid Rain by osh.studio 2022-10-04T23:29:22Z

"ah shoot" was great audio clip for getting hurt haha. Overall a decent platformer and a cool way to bring the theme into it as acid rain.

Lighthouse by rickylee 2022-10-04T23:04:53Z

Really creative use of the theme and also has a great atmosphere. Only wish I could see a score of how long it took me to reach the lighthouse.

Headcount by Bogden 2022-10-04T22:01:23Z

Very simple idea, great use of the theme and well polished. I initially played without sound on and wow what a difference the audio made to my performance.

Jekyll and Hide by Gangrue 2022-10-03T23:01:09Z

Great game use of the theme. Took a few tries to figure out the puzzles.

10 Second Traffic by Grandblood 2022-10-03T23:31:49Z

I really like this one. Very simple mechanics to understand and it is great experiencing how the various combinations of upgrades change the game.

Back for Seconds by Bit Flipz 2022-10-03T23:25:28Z

You can restock the store with the green refresh button (costs 5 gold) sorry that this wasn't clear enough. Thanks for the feedback

Feed the Deep by Matt Green 2022-10-03T23:49:49Z

Not the most intuitive at first, but a decent game once you've figured it out. The sound effects are my favorite part haha

LD53 — Delivery

Fetch! Good boys? by DashNothing 2023-05-02T20:54:29Z

Nice job! These levels are really well designed. They are difficult, but you feel so close to getting it each time, that you just keep replaying it until you beat that level. A random detail, but I liked the death transition with the expanding/shrinking black circle. The only thing I question, is why is this dog jumping all the time! Made it to whatever level this was Screenshot 2023-05-02 164932.png

Fridge Floppers by Split82 2023-05-02T22:47:52Z

What a fun and polished game! I love the cute little characters and the doodle artstyle. Unfortunately I met my match at the level PITS.

EDIT: Came back to it and gave it another go and got to the end this time!

Bloodrush -DELUXE- by Max Amaden 2023-05-01T21:20:09Z

Highlight: Game concept

Lowlight: Collisions

Overall a really cool idea of throwing deliveries out of a fast moving vehicle. All the aspects of the game help convey that idea. The slow down time effect was used perfectly to provide assistance to the player to aim but still conveying the sense of high speed. The slippery drifting controls of the vehicle also fit the idea that the car was moving at high speed and made the game feel a bit more fun and silly. I especially love the attention to detail of the trailing red lights behind the vehicle which probably contributes the most in my experience to the feeling for the speed of the vehicle.

Having to click the mouse button once to change mode and then again to do the action was an annoyance. I don't see why holding down right click shouldn't automatically put you in the throwing mode and start the throw. As also stated by others, the collisions are a bit too annoying as they tend to cause the car to end up angled in a way that causes them to immediately collide with another wall. The

Fast Parcel Service by clemall 2023-05-01T23:28:17Z

Highlight: Parcel chaos

Lowlight: Bugged objects ended run

Wow! This is a really great game. It is so simple, yet so addicting. I loved struggling with the chaos of a never-ending stream of objects piling up as you struggle to throw them into the back of the truck. The music was subtle but nice and the sfx were quite funny. Only complaint is my first game, the objects got stuck onto eachother on the ramp and I couldn't get them down which caused me to lose.

Tiler's Trucking Co by Aggrathon 2023-05-20T00:56:15Z

I enjoy a good puzzle game and this provided a decent challenge not only of the puzzle itself but of my memory too. As other states, being able to see the next tile in the queue would have helped avoid some frustrations and the harmonica was too loud. I also found a secret input that changed the tile, but that kind of defeated the gameplay. Overall a great game!

LD53: House Delivery! by burnedkirby 2023-05-01T21:56:41Z

Highlight: Artstyle

Lowlight: Repetitive

Overall a great simple game that is coupled with a cool artstyle which is reminiscent of playing on my Gameboy Color. Pixel art looked great and the music adjusting to the speed of the vehicle was a nice touch. I appreciated the in-game prompts at first, but then they became annoying as they continued. Unfortunately, I did find myself getting bored of the game after playing for some time due to the repetitive nature of it.

Age of Mail by Swordfish 2023-05-01T20:48:51Z

Highlight: The music

Lowlight: The lack of purpose

All in all a great entry. I was jamming along to the tune of the music as I navigated the seas; the tune perfectly suits the sea sailing theme. It was missing some purpose to the game loop however. If there was a cost for rations/supplies that gave a reason to deliver mail and optimize your route, I think I would have found it more engaging.

Pizza Puzzle by Paroxysmal 2023-05-02T00:26:38Z

Very nice game with decently challenging puzzles. I love the green-pixel art style it reminds me of my Gameboy. One thing that intrigued me is the pixels of the boxes when they move didn't seem like animations, are you using a shader to make the pixelated effect?

Crystallium by MikoziQ 2023-05-01T23:53:00Z

Highlight: Art style

Lowlight: Physics glitches

A really fun and addicting game to play. The biggest thing that stood out to me is the art, specifically the crystals with the bloom effect and the draping purple floor as it vanishes. The gameplay loop is satisfying though I was confused on my first run as to which crystals I was supposed to collect as I tried running over the ones on the corners. I found the presentation of the score to be a very innovative approach. My one criticism is the physics "glitches" as it doesn't fit with the gameplay where the vehicle is flat on the ground all of the time and then goes flying into the air. Personally, I'd rather have a game over when hitting an obstacle rather than that physics craziness. All in all, a really fun game that I could definitely see fitting in as a mobile game.

The Silver Fleet by KyleTheCoder 2023-05-01T22:28:10Z

Highlight: Tempo

Lowlight: Unclear Rules

A fantastic game that does a really great job of maintaining a tempo. A lot of this is probably contributed by the music, but also the frequency of enemies/obstacles. Having only a single button to press also helped give it a sense of rhythm. The only thing I can really complain about is that I wasn't sure what the rules were such as what treasure did or what stats like heavy swing meant.

Well Shirt Company by Haydads 2023-05-02T00:47:01Z

I'm glad I clicked that tutorial button, it was very helpful in my shirt delivery business. Fun game, I felt myself panicking (in a good way) not knowing what best order to do the deliveries in. I'd love to see some sfx and music be added to this. This was my final score for my first game

Screenshot 2023-05-01 204328.png

Dicey Deliveries by AsmadiGames 2023-05-02T21:55:59Z

Haven't tried out a tabletop game before so this was a fun change of pace. Surprisingly I won a perfect win in my first game. Was it luck or strategy I don't know? In any case, it definitely came down to the final rolls to get a 1 and then push it to the top, so good job on making it cut so close!

Screenshot 2023-05-02 175242.png

Delivery Champ by Brandon Campbell 2023-05-01T22:49:38Z

Highlight: Take on theme

Lowlight: No penalties

I chuckled out loud when I saw that this game was about delivering **babies**! That is a hilarious take on the theme. The gameplay itself was pretty straightforward and the sound effects were good. I played the game three times in order to try to beat my high score so that says something. Only real complaint is I discovered that I could just mash all the arrow keys without penalty. Some background music might be a good addition too.

Treats Inbound by rickylee 2023-05-02T00:38:57Z

Haha did not expect how intense the music would be for a game about cat treats. What a fun take on the theme "delivery". Perspective is a bit tricky to figure out, but didn't stop me from having fun. Great job!

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-01T02:47:48Z

@triangle-point Haha yes it is. Glad you noticed that reference :)

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-01T23:06:29Z

@unkilledshadow135-alex I'm really glad you liked the gameplay and the post-processing effects! I apologize somewhat for the difficulty, but I did intend for it to have a sharp difficulty curve since there are only 4 levels. The first level was meant to be more of a tutorial than anything else. Maybe you'll feel up to giving it another go sometime and try to get to the next level (there's a hint in the game over text that might help your strategy).

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-01T23:56:12Z

@sadka8 haha that was exactly the intention so I am glad that was your experience. Thanks for your comment!

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-02T20:21:49Z

@bezedh Thanks, I appreciate it! I typically do the programming work when on a team, so the graphics and audio work was new territory for me. In the end I am really happy with what I made and I learned a lot of new skills.

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-02T20:24:38Z

@baghz I'm glad you liked the music and I appreciate you giving the game a try. The levels definitely are difficult until you learn the strategies to beat them. What if I told you that the secret ending is possible to achieve on any level? Maybe you might want to give it another go and figure it out

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-02T20:31:03Z

@jdah Glad you liked the game and thanks for sharing your ideas and criticisms. Both of your ideas sound good. The carrying multiple boxes one I probably wouldn't want to implement for the first levels, but I add an additional feature each level after level 2 so I could see this being one of those "upgrades" to the robot if I ever made more levels.

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-02T20:34:43Z

@drafy Hey congratulations for making it to level 3! By the sounds of some of the comments, not everyone is making it that far. It does make me slightly regret choosing the high difficulty since most of you are only really able to review my game for the first half of it rather than the whole thing. Level 3 is honestly my favorite because you unlock the teleportation ability and you can really get into the rhythm of it.

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-02T20:36:18Z

@arachnid56 Wow! Thank you for such a high praise! Hopefully this isn't the first game you have reviewed  Did you manage to complete the game?

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-02T22:00:40Z

@cireneikual222464 Haha glad you liked it. I did wonder about putting in a very tiny cooldown on picking up/putting down packages to avoid accidents like that. Thanks for the feedback!

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-06T03:53:25Z

@real-human-1000 I did make the music and it was the first time I have ever done that kind of work (I typically do the programming work and have teammates to do the artistic stuff) so I am thrilled that you liked it! You are on the right track for coming up with the strategy to beat the levels. It does involve managing when the trucks go out so that you only deal with 1 or 2 belts at a time, but they have a schedule to keep and you will get a strike if they are forced to leave before they get all their packages (the light signals how much time they have left). Maybe you can figure out the strategy with these hints.

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-06T03:58:27Z

@aile I really appreciate your comments and that you understood what I was going for, thank you. I agree that the downside to making it difficult was that people miss out on being able to experience and review my entire game. I will definitely learn from this and in the future always include an "easy" mode option if I make another difficult game so that people can experience all the work that went into it even if it isn't the "intended" way to play the game.

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-20T00:28:27Z

@amarokczukay haha yes the feeling of chaos and panic is exactly what I was going for. I'm just thrilled to hear that you were able to get enough of a hang of the game to get to the third level! Thanks for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it :)

Ultimate Package by Triangle Point 2023-05-01T22:12:08Z

Highlight: Music

Lowlight: Janky Camera

I thought the character looked a lot like Moist Critikal and the comments confirmed it. Great easter egg there. As far as the game goes, my initial thoughts went straight to the music. Hands down the best part of this game and the best music out of the games I have reviewed so far. Gameplay left a little to be desired, the enemies while original to make them be boxes, felt a little awkward to fight. My biggest complaint however is that the camera would sharply move around at certain points that did not feel natural. Overall a great game, with a funny setting and fantastic music.

Mt. Deliverest by QwillaK 2023-05-02T00:20:57Z

Really fun and innovative idea to have that climbing mechanic with the mouse buttons! I had a lot of fun trying to get higher, but the falling rocks just don't give enough notice to get out of the way in time. Also the falling scream is hilarious haha

Stone Stone Cold Delivery by schnodelfactory 2023-05-02T22:36:32Z

I thought the game I made might have been too hard, but this is super difficult without being able to see the tiles again. I definitely don't have the memory to win this game. Neat concept though

The Delivery by aile 2023-05-06T04:28:25Z

First off, congratulations on completing your first game jam game and for doing it solo too! This was my first time making a game solo and I can now appreciate just how much more work there is to do.

I think you wisely chose a good-sized scope for your game that is relatively simple in terms of game mechanics, but allowed you to focus on the experience via your artwork and narrative which were both excellent. This town had a cohesive quirkiness to it that made it fun to speak with the locals and fit within the story.

I can see the delivery puzzle that appears to exist and presume it would result in a "good" ending, but unfortunately I was unable to figure out how to complete it. I suspect the first step was related to collecting the hot peppers, but the best I could seem to do is see the text box "hot peppers". Despite being unable to figure out how to achieve that, it was still a great experience and you should be proud of your first game jam game.

Delivery Witch by kgurniak91 2023-05-01T22:37:15Z

Great first Ludum Dare entry, especially given the short time frame! I can see the potential for this concept to be a fun puzzle game. One small complaint is that the audio was a bit too loud. I hope to see you participating in more game jams in the future!

Super Special Delivery by Nathan Franck 2023-05-01T21:35:38Z

Highlight: Menu

Lowlight: Gameplay

It is shame you didn't have the time to finish the game, but I've got to give praise to the menu. The artwork and transitions are fantastic. In particular I love how the blanket swings around as the stork moves when you navigate the menu.

Came back to edit cause I forgot to praise the music too! Very vibing

Fetch Quest. A small text adventure by Patrick Abernathy 2023-05-02T21:18:06Z

Screenshot 2023-05-02 170122.png

I feel bad now. Maybe my character deserved to be in that cell.

Found all 4 endings. Cool game! I haven't played a text adventure in awhile. Did the uniform serve a purpose?

LD55 — Summoning

Demon Burger by JOrbits 2024-04-16T21:05:59Z

Really neat and unexpected game. It took me a moment to understand the instructions for how to construct the burger. Imagine my surprise when a giant burger man appeared and starting shooting XD. I guess in hindsight, the book did say it was for summoning demon burgers... The burger-making gameplay is unique and the assets looked really good. Well done.

Devotion - A fairytale by daandruff 2024-04-16T20:26:13Z

Wow I love the art style, great choice of color palette! I stumbled around clicking randomly a few times before finding my way to the next step, but it was a good experience overall.

Claws and Conundrums by LocksmithArmy 2024-04-16T20:30:27Z

Great atmosphere and the implementation of turning the pages was neat! It was quite a lot to read though, maybe a bit too much.

Tower Of Madness by Chiara Sanviti 2024-04-16T21:24:55Z

I am always jealous of people who are able to make their games look so good. I didn't quite figure out the best strategy, but it was fun to play regardless!

Dry Season by HolyPerceval 2024-04-17T23:51:13Z

I love this creative take on the theme! Can't say I am all too good at rhythm games, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The use of the dancing people to represent the number of lives you have was also very ingenious

Summonware by HelperWesley 2024-04-16T20:35:10Z

Wow the pixel art and animations are fantastic! I cannot comprehend how this could be created in only 72 hours. Incredible. That being said, I didn't immediately figure out that the controls for the minigame are on the right side, but once that was figured out, it was fun from there on

Unstable Elementals by sdelaney 2024-04-16T05:53:55Z

@drahmen Thanks for playing! There is only one source of healing in the game, the blood elemental. If you can figure out the combination and build your character towards it, it can pay off if you make it.

Unstable Elementals by sdelaney 2024-04-16T22:08:38Z

@st00nsa Thanks for playing! That's a pretty good score, I don't know what the record is, though I know some people got to over 40k. Lightning is one of my favorite elementals too, but my strategy is to go straight for blood for its healing. Did you try out the other difficulty settings? If you can survive them long enough, they have higher score multipliers.

Unstable Elementals by sdelaney 2024-04-16T22:42:37Z

@zklau Thanks for playing the game. Yes Vampire Survivors was an inspiration, I'm glad that we were able to capture it to some extent. The best gameplay tip I can offer is to find a comfortable size circle to kite the enemies around and you'll be able to pick up the XP dropped by ones you've defeated as you come back around

Reverse Rituals by freakyzelga 2024-04-16T20:43:00Z

I got Rose Buzz! I'm not a fan of idle games in general, but this one was short enough to be enjoyable. Took me a moment to realize that I needed to max out all of the devils to perform the summon. Artwork looked fantastic

Idea Catcher——Summoning Tools by DrgCandle 2024-04-16T20:38:31Z

Super polished game and with really cute art. Puzzles are challenging, but rewarding. Love it!

Conjurer's Quest by Dywanix 2024-04-17T23:39:22Z

Fantastic pixel art! I wish I had some talent in that area. Plenty of levels to play and more than I expected! My main complaint is the lack of coyote time when jumping. I unexpectedly missed quite a few jumps because of it. Overall it's a really good platforming puzzle game that incorporates the theme well. Good job!

bergs by burnttoastdev 2024-04-17T00:24:32Z

BERG!

I had an absolute blast playing this! Puzzles got challenging at times, but the silly BERG! kept me going until I solved every last one. Kudos for making such a simple, but fantastic game.

Super Pal Summoner! by Meepster 2024-04-16T20:20:08Z

really fun game you've made. I had to restart a few times after learning a bit of strategy for it, but once I got it down, I feel like I could go a long time.

Vampire Summoners by DenisMarasan 2024-04-20T13:55:32Z

Screenshot 2024-04-20 094752.png Really great concept to let the player control how many enemies should appear, and a perfect fit for the theme. The attack abilities were designed well so that if you do summon lots of enemies you get a good payoff by being able to hit more with a single attack. I kind of wished there was some sort of incentive of levelling up or getting upgrades outside of just going for the highest score, but otherwise a great game. I also made a vampire survivor-like game, however it is a very different take on it than yours. If you are interested, here's the link: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/55/unstable-elementals

Slaymore by Joshua Miller-Pio 2024-04-17T23:25:37Z

Clicked on this game because of the stunning artwork and the pixel art in the game was no different. The controls and gameplay were a little janky, but great work nonetheless for a first game jam.
