LD53 — Delivery

Just a cog in the machine? by Erkberg 2023-05-14T21:41:31Z

What a great entry! As others mentioned, it felt nice to explore and figure things out by myself. Always great to see original music, and with rhythm game elements nonetheless!

The spawning rows of empty cages and the overseer-sorta voice telling you not to go outside the bounds was spot on. The third music challenge felt difficult, but to my surprise i completed it anyway. Sometimes the creatures got a little stuck with their animations, when standing within the music areas.

One of the few entries that asks what's the meaning of all these deliveries and invites you to make a stand against the very theme itself - very meta -)

Firelore: First Fate by LucasMolina 2023-05-06T15:21:07Z

You've done a nice job with this one. I seldom play/read visual novels, but can appreciate the writing in this game and also the themes used.

The exposition was well done in several places (the soldier's name, the painter's painting). Some things, I would have preferred if they stayed as subtext, e.g. more subtle. The branches were sufficient. The Teacher was fine, but rambling/repeating at times. I'd probably test removing some of their short sentences and see if the story would still flow and feel the same. (My bet is that yes, it would, and that the teacher's voice would become stronger. The rambling waters it down a bit .p)

The characters had quite distinct voices overall, so again, within this time limit I'd say it was well done.

The title remained a mystery, but it could be just me who missed something? :) Also, really agree with peterfiftyfour's comment above! Def. potential here to take this further! Good work!

Bad News Bear by CameronPenner 2023-05-06T22:20:38Z

Loved this!! Everything worked smoothly. The extra cards before the monkey were just too good (I failed at the monkey btw because i didnt pay attention lol!). The voice acting was awesome! My favorite detail was the mood bar: that sad face was just so perfect haha. Really good job, congrats!!

Beep Boop by Iluvatar 2023-05-04T11:39:33Z

I just love Beep Boop! I've seen your earlier entries, so was really excited to see what will it be this time.

Played the game with my kids and it was a huge success. They requested I read all dialogue out loud, and we opted for a green car at the end. They also really wanted to go beyond the scene, to see what more is there ;)

Feedback-wise I just think everything was more or less in harmony. One thing I especially loved were the quest/location markers. Can't go wrong when there's a huge red arrow floating up and down above the place!

The art and sounds were fantastic, but my personal favorite was the small details such as the baby picture on the wall. I was just sitting and grinning when I saw this haha :frame_photo: Lots of lovely details in the dialogue, too - "I ate a whole human today!". Perfect!

I try not to play favorites, but this game deserves a damn good score, so let's hope it will get it! Awesome work!

Cargo Cove by superjai 2023-05-04T12:13:47Z

Really fun game, loved the music and sounds, as well as the progress (upgrades).

Decrypting Handwriting by pauljs 2023-05-04T12:58:06Z

One of a kind idea, I absolutely loved it. Felt so proud when I passed the test! xD Hoping to see it more polished, or maybe taken and used in some other context/game? Would be awesome!

Deliveries & Dragons by PhilStrahl 2023-05-05T14:33:51Z

Loved the game!!! The automated gnomes while trying to deal with dragon threat is a really neat idea. Lots of ways to develop this further and build on this base loop. Good job! Thought also that the design was so great that no explanation was needed, to me it was super clear what I was supposed to do. The icons for upgrades/etc, were also easily understandable in my opinion.

The transition from the first screen to the title screen was very fast, maybe too much so. Also could not see an option to exit/close the game.

I had a goal of getting 100 sped up gnomes, so I ended up with quite a lot going on in the screen, lots of dead gnomes, fast shooting cannon balls and so on. Was hilarious and I loved the experience! Wanted to post a screenie here, but sadly the screenshot was only made of the title screen and not gameplay itself (not sure why)

Haitatsu Delivery Technologies by ghost-in-the-toast 2023-05-05T14:42:32Z

The art and sound were so great! Really liked this game. There were some places to get stuck at, e.g. if you jump down at the beginning and then right, I couldnt really see where to proceed from there so just restarted the game.

Very Good Deli by Antti Haavikko 2023-05-16T13:23:31Z

Nice gameplay loop, very clear to follow and play. The robot arm was spot on! Good player feedback in the form of the score sheet, although I kept wondering if some customer comments could make it a little more fun (but that's also extra work, and maybe doesn't fit within this specific game). I managed to accidentally throw around the letters so they hit the bell 12 times. At least that's what the following score sheet said, while also letting me know I was fired. Damnit! :)

A Very Important Message by Roka Josh 2023-05-17T18:33:53Z

Such a fun game! As already mentioned before, shooting and controlling the arrow was already satisfying, so finishing the game felt less important hehe (I was still happy once I did it though!). Really liked the upgrades and boosters, and also that there was a certain challenge steering the arrow. Also really positive that there's a certain freedom in that the player can choose the upgrades and boosters. This allows for a little variance...maybe increases replay value as well? I didn't test it though, I just boosted everything to max as I had the gold. Possibly, this could be something to balance - reduce the gold, make the player choose between upgrades? Just a though ^^

The voiceover intro and outro were cool! :D Loved also the overall theme of peace. Great work, team!

Courier Crusaders by UnitedFailures 2023-05-15T08:03:00Z

I really like the rpg vibes here, so it was cool. Loved the little quests and their descriptions, the map system was nice, and also the "event log".

What the stats exactly did was unclear, although the "event log" was there to give some information. Something felt off with balance, e.g. I had two strong couriers with good stats in all attributes. Together in a team they had 15+ in every attribute and 20+ in several. Yet, they both died to a mission that did not require high stats? That some negative RNG happens is fine, but it was a shame that I could not find a way to recover / plan for these losses. Since my weaker couriers ALSO managed to die, the money quickly became a problem as I lost 20+ gold per day and could not purchase new couriers nor earn more money before the gold balance was negative, aka game over.

I do like the idea very much though and definitely think you should keep working on it. Will def. check back for updates!

Mortality by gamebuilder 2023-05-17T13:49:09Z

Completed the whole game, liked both the aspect of needing to unlock a house, as well as the transformation after interacting with the butterfly. Very unique vibe in this game, both the art and music create a peculiar mood. The large proportions of the imprisoned fairy was also interesting choice.

With some basic character animation and maybe some more life in the environment/level design, this could become even better! I was also wondering if you'd be interested in implementing choices/alternative endings. (I understand the base for the game is a story, so that doesn't really call for branching - but I still felt it could be a possibility here)

Well done!

All your Deliveries have come at once!! by JAsonsumm1 2023-05-04T13:13:59Z

I managed to place one of my many washing machines (!) in the garden. Fun idea for the game! Apart from the dragging bug, I also noticed as the rooms got cluttered, some items got stuck together and I moved several items at once.

Superstar Surgeon: a Sensitive Subject by Fupi 2023-05-05T22:49:48Z

Original idea, stands out among many other games. So inspiring to see games using music like this, not the least because I've never done it myself hehe. I also think you were brave to tackle this topic, and judging from the comments it was definitely a success. I know not everyone might find it funny, depending on their situation or mood, but that shouldn't stop you :) The lyrics are so great! Thank you for making this cool little game!

Lucky Lefty Loves Letters by TheBookSnail 2023-05-04T08:31:48Z

Grappling hook was nice, overall a fun and challenging game! :) I played in Firefox, which probably affected the performance a bit as the hook reaction felt pretty slow. Watching the snail slooowly flying through air as the time counts made me just spam the hook at the end lol.

maritime delivery job by CodeForJoyCaro 2023-05-05T14:10:40Z

Nice little game! Agree with the others, the controls felt smooth. Loved the red boats chilling around, they were not too sggressive or annoying but still there! The collision boxes for both quest objects and red boats are pretty large. It's not a big deal tbh, but for example I lost one life although visually I did not really touch the enemy boat :)

Shattered Reflections by Perrin 2023-05-06T19:47:52Z

Loved this so much, was very inspiring to see a mystery game! And with Adventure Creator, which I'm also planning to use but haven't purchased. I really want to make a suspenseful adventure myself now haha. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Although there were many good parts, I'd say the audio really brought it together. The art was ofc also fantastic and the story was well planned out. I was maybe expecting some last puzzle with the "finish this" button, but the scene with mirrors was pretty satisfying as well. (Also, I understand that you had time limits) Great job!

Fuscus and The Garlic Kin by Buumiii 2023-05-05T16:21:33Z

So nice graphics! Liked throwing the frog companion, although it didn't seem to do alot? The quest and the dialogue with the other frog were nice! If you fail the game, it felt as if the restart/quit buttons were unresponsive or froze the game, since nothing seemed to happen when clicking on them. Overall, good work and a decent idea for a jam!

Monster Mail by CodeRaurus 2023-05-05T06:25:38Z

Nice game, a familiar one with a twist. Great graphics and how the map is portrayed, as well as the monster character art which was cute. As already mentioned above, some sound would have added even more to the overall feeling, but it's still a very well done compo!

Delivery by Adam Jewell 2023-05-04T08:13:07Z

Simple but still challenging mechanic, loved the rotation. You could slap all sorts of additional content on this one, levels, story... lots of potential here. It was inspiring to see this hoop-and-wire concept, I almost think it's the first time I see it in a game. Great idea!

Feathered Envoys by chromaticGray 2023-05-16T08:06:04Z

Really liked this game, congrats on a great entry! The daily actions were a lot of fun, original ideas and I appreciate the humor in these a lot. The traveling routes felt good. Occasional pigeon deaths were okay, as it was possible to recover and keep going. Liked especially the rejuvenate option! As others have pointed out, with some events the randomizer might feel a little annoying, e.g. if you want to discover the new area but you keep waiting for the option to pop up. I hope you keep working on this.

Daily Vrai by Pikario 2023-05-05T18:56:26Z

One of my favorite entries so far. This game has SO many good things going on! Referring to the situation in France, all the absurd humor behind the journalist work, typing your nonsense article drafts as fast as you can haha. The retirement calendar with its updates.. And the bullying boss with his emails. "I know ur old but cant you work faster?" So good hahaha!! Also all the different endings! This could become an entertaining full game if you wanted to take this idea further.

Congrats on a really good job to the whole team, you've absoluitely nailed your concept idea.

T.I.M.E by bqq 2023-05-11T12:40:48Z

This was fun, thanks for submitting your game! The final puzzle was nice, the "boss fight" was hilarous as well as his dialogue. The enemies and the combat felt very smooth: even if they were simple it worked well. The music added greatly to the overall mood haha. The game re-started immediately after completing, maybe would have been better to be able to choose between quit or restart. Awesome entry!

Dangerous Delivery by Shuimen 2023-05-17T16:46:34Z

I think I couldn't even start the game. Pressed the control buttons and arrows, nothing changed. The arrows switched places sometimes, that was all I could see, but no vehicle to control and nothing that responds to any input.

Involuntary Nannies by xHadie 2023-05-05T22:10:10Z

"Each baby has special demands, but it is not always clear what they need." Haha, so true. I really like the idea of how you need to manage all this chaos. There's a fun intrinsic motivation hidden in there that makes us think that we will somehow manage it (and some of us do!), no matter how realistic or unrealistic.

I also really liked the intro and sequences with the thieves... thought that the characterization was pretty good, and it's not always easy to polish that side of a game during such a limited time because good characters are all about depth, and creating that is time consuming. So I was quite impressed with that part. Overall, great job!

Last Delivery by greenphox 2023-05-04T09:51:24Z

I loved this game, thank you for sharing it with us! The story is awesome, and ties together the other aspects in this game really well. The confusing deliveries didn't bother me, because I was expecting it. Loved the art and music as well. The robot animations were so nice, as well as the occasional flashes in the sky!

Also really liked the "tutorial" part and how it was integrated into the game.

Like others mentioned, would be nice to have the movement option to include alternative to the arrows. The WASD + space to jump might feel more comfortable for some players. Was also missing some sort of option to close the game at end, but I know that 48 hours is... a short time. You've done a really good job within this short time span!

Mira-sol by MrAlcoro 2023-05-04T07:50:11Z

Congrats on creating a great, engaging management game! I think it has a good balance, proper mechanics, and it feels complete and polished overall. The potential stress of needing to manage delivery routes in time is balanced out by the nice music. Spot on choice there! Loved the upgrades system / weeks passing, this was like a carrot that motivated me to continue as long as possible.

At the beginning, the message "Make sure the route..." spawns for each new delivery node and it clutters the smaller screens, blocking the view somewhat. E.g. I had three of these at some point I think. I get it that most players would follow the tutorial quickly and draw the lines where needed, then the message disappears. But I'd probably stick this message behind a bool so it only shows in max one place at a time.

Again, really well done!

They Took Our Jobs! by Bit Flipz 2023-05-05T21:41:09Z

So clever idea! I understand the gameplay was meant to be a little more challenging, but it didnt really bother me. One reason is that the goal of the game was very clear - you HAVE to perform well if you don't want to get terminated.

Possibly, the downside to high difficulty is that the players miss out on interesting content, aka the upgrades. Maybe give them easier, so that the player has all the tools, then release the hounds so to speak haha.

I got overwhelmed on the second level but might be due to my lazyness to follow any strategy. Loved the business-minded texts between the levels, they were spot on! Same with the music!

Saw in the info that there is a secret ending, which is definitely motivating for replay :)

A Message for the Stone King by SelkieHarbour 2023-05-15T08:20:03Z

As already pointed out, the dialogue was really nice! I loved talking to the prisoners, putting together the pieces of the story. The digging mini-game was a little confusing, although it wasn't exactly hard. I kept thinking maybe I missed something? The King's animations were really fitting, and the progress of learning how to talk to him, e.g. what choices to make, was very interesting. I spent a lot of time in that dungeon lol. Good job and such an interesting idea!

The Delivery by aile 2023-05-04T08:40:36Z

Thank you so much for the feedback!

@mr-deku Haha, I'm glad I managed to create a somewhat coherent world. Thank you for the kind words!

@mar-zockmeister Thanks! I totally agree about the mouse cursor - felt myself it was a little off.

@adam-jewell Thank you! Yeah I was positively surprised how easy AGS was to use.

@thebooksnail That's great to hear! I had no idea if and how all my uploaded stuff would work. Guess I'm a mobile developer now lol =)

The Delivery by aile 2023-05-11T11:08:01Z

I'm so thrilled to receive all these comments and congratulations and feedback. THANK YOU so much!

@kanity @afroant @josephldooley @bit-flipz @tomtomgome @fupi I hear ya about the endings / side quest! The truth is that I didn't have time to implement the "good ending". So I left these "objects" (peppers, etc) as just part of the environment, but did not have time to make them more meaningful. Ultimately, they ended up quite pointless for the submission - sorry for that!

@hcs-hades Haha thank you for the kind words! Totally agree about highlighting the interactables on mouse over, in fact I did try to figure out how to do this in AGS, but had to prioritize other things .p

@camden-obertop Thanks for pointing that out - it's obvious also from other comments that I really need to improve the mouse cursor. So this is my no.1 thing to fix.

@digital-bacon Glad to see the puns were not completely hated ;) I neither deny nor confirm that I might use puns in my next submissions as well.

@milano23 @oradimi @str8griz @team-gaivot @jasonsumm1 Thank you for the kind and constructive words! I'll try my best to return the favor and give feedback to your games as well!

@sodoj Thank you for the feedback, and especially the constructive parts, really appreciate it and agree that I could have packed in some more hints along the way. Tough balance there, to show or to tell -,-

@ollie-d Grandmothers rock! (or at least, they should!)

The Delivery by aile 2023-05-17T14:15:12Z

@hakro @shuimen @sayurinyooko @gamebuilder @lee-haochen Thank you!! :)

@david-yates I agree with everything you said! Thanks for taking the time to give feedback, it's very much appreciated. I really want to prepare and plan more for the next jam, and following all the feedback is a decent starting point. And yeah, AGS has a web port (Emscripten), and I was shocked when it literally worked after just following instructions I found in the thread. Especially because I basically didn't know what I was doing. Somebody even said they could play on mobile which was something I didn't even plan for :D Could it be... could it be magic...?! Haha.

@konfekt Thank you for the kind words, and for taking the time to play! I really need to rate your game + a few others before the time runs out here.

Tracks 'n Bandits: Haulin' Cargo by Terquey 2023-05-05T22:00:53Z

Cool game, felt rather polished! Loved the art and music. The brake effect was neat, so I found myself spamming brakes just because lol. The bandits were fun!! The obstacles between the different tracks (trees, cactuses, etc) didnt seem to do anything, thought at first they would be "bad" somehow. Enjoyed playing this game and think you did a great job with this one!

FoodEx by stesim 2023-05-04T08:02:54Z

Such a fun game! Clear instructions, the bankruptcy comes rather quickly lol. Loved the customers waiting in row, made it feel more immersed rather than just loading/unloading the foods. Good job!! :)

deliver me from X by konfekt 2023-05-17T16:19:51Z

Unique take on both the theme and the chosen topic. I was wondering about the narrator, as I think it changes throughout the story.. so my question is who is the person/voice speaking at the beginning. I also liked how there is a sort of uncertainty as to how fast or slow the time is flowing, because it feels like some of the dialogue/thoughts/events could literally take place within seconds, but then it slows down. There is a feeling of a "limbo" of sorts hanging over the story, which I think is something many parents can identify with.

The graphics and music work well together, as mentioned by others the music in chapter 2 (from "but what of me, then?") was a little too loud at some point and it was too dominating so it didn't quite achieve a strong effect. The rest of the audio was nice though.

I have two kids, so it is always cool to see how other people interpret and think about this topic. Thanks for this original and nice LD entry!! :)

Magical Domain by kanity 2023-05-04T10:41:37Z

I enjoyed this game! You've done such a good job! The art was beautiful, and as mentioned above the music and different themes for different areas were immersive. The story was engaging! Loved that there were two possible endings.

When moving the character around, they very often got stuck, instead of finding the nearest route and heading there. So I spent some time clicking around, trying to find the way. Had Dash enabled, if that makes any difference. (I don't know what would cause this as I haven't used RPGMaker myself)

Akoban by KoB-Kirito 2023-05-05T18:32:52Z

Congrats on making a wonderful narrative game! I really liked playing through it and thought the plot was decent. The music was a nice addition, but I do agree that you could have made for example the "source of a noise" an actual noise audio clip. This way all the elements would really serve the story. The art had different styles, and made me curious how the game would have looked like if art direction had followed the character style ^^

As a writer, I mostly prefer to use shorter text and less exposition. There's a value in trusting the player/reader to connect the dots themselves. They often will, and it creates a nice experience for them because they feel that they "figured it out" themselves. (And sometimes you also want to leave certain things vague, so that it is up to the reader what they will make of it). Just my two cents. Well done with the game, great team effort!

Tears and Snails by Lyxali 2023-05-11T13:46:42Z

This has potential! I liked the concept, although it felt challenging to make the delivery. I was too focused trying to balance my resources, and forgot about collecting the tears... Completing the rounds was not a problem though, and the purchasing deals felt useful. I was always able to find something I needed (or so I think!). Possibly, as you gain new cards, it'd be great to be able to switch out/remove/destroy older cards? Also, I absolutely think you could take this idea further, if this is something you are interested in. Can only imagine how cool it could become with some visuals and sound!
