Feathered_Envoys.exe can't be found, so game is not playable.

Sorry.

wadlo 2023-05-04 03:35

Couldn't download the file. Can you upload it to itch?

weirdbitgames 2023-05-04 17:06

I sadly can't play this game, there's no .exe file in the download? :(

chromaticgray 2023-05-04 20:38

Sorry Everyone, I've uploaded an updated version of the game and switched my category to Extra. It should be working now and is also much better.

weirdbitgames 2023-05-04 21:18

This is pretty cute and also quite good! I like the music btw. The pigeon sprites are adorable too! I found it a little hard to figure it out at first, but overall: well done!

chado 2023-05-04 21:49

The pigeons are adorable and their little name are very cute! I found myself really enjoying playing the game, though I found it a bit "long" at some point. The game itself is simple yet effective, and with your explanation I found it pretty easy to play, well done!

winie 2023-05-08 21:17

@chromaticgray Can you provide an html5 version?

dxk2294 2023-05-09 08:01

I just want to let my little birbs stay chilling

Very cute game, though I agree with Chado that it drags a bit at points. Could definitely use with speeding up some of the transitions between phases of days. The music, while enjoyable, did start to wear on me.

All that being said, I'm surprised by the number of systems at play here and how it all comes together to feel like a well thought out, well put together game. Great job!

shane-gadsby 2023-05-09 10:30

Great game, I just want to hold my little birbs and pet them

chromaticgray 2023-05-09 14:13

@dxk2294 Thank you for your great review! I also agree with the mentioned points. I am currently improving on it while also trying to integrate new game mechanics! The music was done very quickly haha and I am indeed completly sick of it. You can press M to mute it :P

Beat the game in 61 days! (got lucky with a human envoy in the end hehe)

Lovely game, great theme. With some more polish for the gameplay, I can see this game being The tips were a very good idea for guiding the player. Finding out what the events did at the beginning of the game was fun.

I found that obtaining bird seed through pigeons to be too risky to do after establishing connection to a location, due to the amount gained being pretty low compared to just waiting for a random event to gain seed, time spent/risk of death involved/losing out events that boost the pigeons, and the lowish impact of having seeds.

Maybe having the events be a bit swayed dependant on what the player needs would be nice as well, I found myself waiting for the aviatory upgrade until day 30 I think? (I could be wrong though) I also think that letting the player if they get no events, getting a thematic but very weak/luck dependant event would be nice, since the events help fuel progression/world building and helps keep you into the game while you wait.

Great job on the game and the feel! (Theoretically I think you could have kept your game as a Jam game since I think certain bug fixes are allowed, post jam, which i think yours was since it was a critical bug. https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules)

"Certain Bug Fixes are allowed. You can’t add new features, but if something broke or didn’t work correctly as you were finishing up, you can fix this after the deadline. You are asked to highlight the changes you make in your submission (a short change log). You probably wont get a 2nd chance with some players, but at least it wont be a problem for future players."

Here's a chick art, hope it looks good enough c: 5b7e4.png

@cureja Thank you! I am very grateful for your in depth review and I'm glad you beat the game. Sorry for the poor ending XD. It's already better, but I still need to polish some other things before releasing the next update. Your feedback is appreciated and I agree with what you said. I'm trying to figure out a way to not be stuck in a boring loop where you're just waiting for a specific thing. Note that I've added more content in my previous updates so I moved to the Extra category for that reason. Also very cute chick pigeon. Will be in the next update for sure.

This game has surprisingly more to it than it might seem, the various texts never feel repetitive, and the gameplay loop is engaging, I had an issue at the start where I had one pigeon and nearly no seeds so I spent a few rounds not being able to do anything, but once I understood how it all works I had fun strategizing around and following my gambling addiction (didn't lose a single time baby!!). really nice work with this game, I had a lot of fun!

madbarron 2023-05-13 03:26

Really cool take on the theme! I like the idea a lot, and the art is super cute! For me, the game progresses too slowly. All the randomness really slows the game down (the action you want doesn't come up, and the pigeons always cuddle, etc.). Also, it would be nice to know in advance the age at which a pigeon dies.

Overall, it's a solid core game and I enjoyed it :)

chromaticgray 2023-05-13 18:14

Thanks for your review @madbarron. I've just updated the game with some new features to help speed up the game. I aim to improve the events so its not COMPLETELY random, but I didn't have much time recently.

fedora 2023-05-13 19:21

Really cool game! At the end I was stuck with just 1 place left to discover but I didn't get an option that could do that for like 20 days straight  The pigeons art and names were really nice, made me feel attached to them.

stevie257 2023-05-15 19:50

The graphics in this game may be simple, but they effectively convey the game's core mechanics and provide a visually intuitive experience

aile 2023-05-16 08:06

Really liked this game, congrats on a great entry! The daily actions were a lot of fun, original ideas and I appreciate the humor in these a lot. The traveling routes felt good. Occasional pigeon deaths were okay, as it was possible to recover and keep going. Liked especially the rejuvenate option! As others have pointed out, with some events the randomizer might feel a little annoying, e.g. if you want to discover the new area but you keep waiting for the option to pop up. I hope you keep working on this.

python-b5 2023-05-17 06:21

Neat entry! Feels very polished, he randomness added some variety to it which was appreciated. I didn't end up completing it but got a bit in.

Cute and fun game with an original concept. I was confused at first about what I had to do but it turns out I just needed to read the instructions... My bad! Eventually, more in-game guidance would be appreciated, and also I feel like the pace is a bit slow to pick up at first, the mechanics are there and the art is very nice. With more time and polish, I can see this become a full, marketable game. You could even work out a way to include roguelike mechanics. Definitely a lot of potential!

f1krazy 2023-05-18 18:15

This is good. There's a surprising amount of content for a jam game, and the graphics and sound effects are excellent. My main complaint, and I don't know whether this is just me being bad at it, is that it plays way too slowly. It takes ages for a pigeon to get from A to B and back again - if it makes it back at all - and in the meantime you're stuck with no seeds and no pigeons and can't actually do anything.

Getting more pigeons if you're running out is almost entirely down to RNG, which doesn't feel good. It took several tries before my home DIY actually got me a second pigeon, and the very next time I tried it, I had a beam collapse and kill a pigeon ***that wasn't even in the aviary at the time*** (it was still returning from a mission). I have to be honest, I rage-quitted the game at that point because it just felt like total BS.

I'd love to play a version of this with a bit more balancing and a bit of a faster pace.

2023-05-18 19:29

The pigeons are just adorable, especially when they win accessories! The texts are funny and entertaining (my first pigeon died because a wizard changed its wings into hands..!? haha)

I didn't finish connecting my 6 kingdoms because my pigeons died quickly. I persevered 30 days with only one pigeon, without managing to get new ones, which ended up dying of old age. I think it would be nice to have more opportunities to get pigeons and/or give them more strength at the beginning to avoid their imminent death.

The game is fun, but I would like to have more cute and strong pigeons !Badass-Pigeon-1.png

robonaut121 2023-05-19 21:42

Not being a fan of strategy games myself, I didn't really get far on this one - tried two runs, both of which my pigeons all died in. Probably just a skill issue on my part, but it was slightly demoralizing to send a pigeon which I thought was very good only for it to die of consumption of illicit substances on arrival. This game is executed really well, and I hope it can get the remaining rates it deserves, it just wasn't for me, sorry :-(

...Couldn't resist spending 15 minutes on a "pigeon" recolour of my own, though :-)

(I hope a parrot is acceptable)

Finished after 79 days. Really cute take on the theme, and the humor is well done. I know it's been mentioned already, but it would be great to guarantee the player has some agency on each day by guaranteeing ideally a minimum of 2 daily actions by tweaking the randomizer. I also wound up with two Pigeon McFly's in my aviary at the same time 😅. Either way, it was a fun time.
