LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Tide of Rot by ryusui 2022-04-07T14:58:46Z

What a solid little shmup, impressive as a solo dev. I appreciate the multiple input support, especially in a precision based bullet hell game. I did encounter one issue where bad guys would occasionally survive my bullets long enough to get behind the bullet spawn point but not yet at my hit box, perhaps the bullets could spawn from your hitbox so you're not powerless in this situation? Overall, though, you've done a great job here.

Game About Trying to Gain More Time In A Time Cave by HacksawUnit 2022-04-06T21:11:52Z

The jumping mechanics remind me of Castlevania, lots of commitment to your actions, which is really well paired with the level layouts. Assets were all very well crafted. Really enjoyed playing this one!

Imposter Syndrome Surgeon by kason.xiv 2022-04-06T17:48:41Z

Very simple game, but with a hilarious premise. So charming, I love the music and animation!

The Runs by Bytomancer 2022-04-05T02:54:03Z

@kason-xiv Thanks for the suggestion! I tried packing all the dependencies in with the tarball but I figure I missed a few, I'll go update the instructions for now.

The Runs by Bytomancer 2022-04-07T03:03:21Z

@gdesecrate What platform are you on? Windows or Linux?

InevitaBallistics by JHax 2022-04-06T20:21:11Z

Very cool idea, I had a lot of fun playing through all the levels a couple times. The library's probably my favorite level as the narrow halls can be stressful. I think it would be nice if the game communicated effects vs power ups a little better, maybe power ups could have a square outline instead? Either way, great game and very well executed.

Lumberjack by DAk001 2022-04-07T18:07:08Z

Incredible work for an engineless game, and I really appreciate the repo link! I'm going to have to read through that later :heart_exclamation:

Love the graphics, especially the mouse-aware parallax effect. The music fits the mood well. Great job on a well-scoped game on point with the theme.

The Average Quest by MelekTaus 2022-04-07T17:46:14Z

Excellent work on the game feel and level design. I especially like your use of particles.

Death's Gambit by osh.studio 2022-04-06T17:22:13Z

This is the most addictive game I've played in a long time. Excellent use of the theme, great art and sound design, love the strategic gameplay mechanics. The only thing I wish it had was an indicator of the Reaper's position, at least during the first round, as it's a little disappointing when you find out you moved right toward his offscreen starting position.

Best score: 37

Timeless by shmador 2022-04-06T17:08:36Z

What a clever game! Very good level/puzzle design, and an excellent touch on the palette shift between the two time states.

Tamaghost Jump! by Kaiyaki 2022-04-06T02:09:03Z

I actually found the game on itch.io first and I didn't notice the screenshots of the cutscenes. What a surprise when that snooze alarm went off! Loved the art and design, great job.

I Sink Not by eeldam 2022-04-08T14:52:10Z

Love the concept, it's a great take on the theme. The art style is really charming, great work there especially. Now if only I could find a more optimized build...

Life Finds a Way by Mopifish 2022-04-06T17:38:17Z

I love Balthazar! Good job on nailing the "Delay the Inevitable" theme.

Straw Journey by ArdaKrkz 2022-04-06T21:48:53Z

One of the best put together experiences I've played all week, well done!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Sub-scured by infinitycore 2022-10-05T04:56:59Z

Really like the idea, and the crazy thing is this game makes the 10 seconds between sonar pulses feel like an **eternity**. Every other game has made it feel like such a short time. Also, I couldn't get past 4 dodecahedrons either.

Frogwatch by Gunnbju 2022-10-05T03:51:14Z

Wonderful art and sound design, both very fitting to the aesthetic you guys went for.

Reboot by Astrydax 2022-10-05T04:43:47Z

Excellent take on the theme, and a very unique idea. The only downside I had was the down staircases. I understand they were part of an unimplemented feature, but perhaps making right click descend would have improved the user experience, preventing unintended user input.

Hampter Quest by not-tomo 2022-10-06T03:29:10Z

Adorable! It's simple, but done extremely well and hit the theme perfectly.

Clique Hell High by Sean Esopenko 2022-10-06T03:08:37Z

Very cute character designs, and I loved the audio. I do wish the characters had a little more contrast so they could be identified with an immediate glance, but after a while I got more familiar with what to look for. Still, very fun game and an excellent entry.

I also really appreciated the blog you made on godot, having tried the engine for the first time myself this time around. I'm going to have to try out the animation editor.

Make Haste, Detective! by frogwizardhat 2022-10-05T05:51:44Z

Easily a perfect score game for me, everything about it was lovely. It's clear you all put a lot of work into this, and I think it could grow into something bigger. I loved playing through each mystery multiple times to uncover more dialogue and get a picture of the entire scene.

I do have a concern about the way the round ends at 100 seconds. It does not feel rewarding to be asked to guess the culprit only to guess correctly based on 0 tangible evidence, as I did with 2 of the mysteries. I believe the game's experience would be improved if instead of guessing the culprit you could collect "clues" from the dialogue, and once the player found the correct set of "clues" they could be asked to make a choice. Essentially, a hidden tally could be kept of the important messages that players have encountered, and the round would only end after they've found all of the required messages. I understand the constraints of a game jam, but that's something I hope you consider if you continue working on this game.

LD53 — Delivery

Grav Garb by Alchemic 2023-05-05T03:43:23Z

Great job on the the artwork and music. I'd love to see a tutorial level or something to introduce the nuances of the mechanics, it's a little overwhelming to get into.

Excellent game, I hope the confusion in my fingers passes eventually.

Bundle Dumper: Florida Edition by cheesepencil 2023-05-05T05:49:31Z

Incredible use of pico-8. I love it that the baby and the stork have separate collision, that has some hilarious consequences!

Feathered Envoys by chromaticGray 2023-05-20T15:08:09Z

Finished after 79 days. Really cute take on the theme, and the humor is well done. I know it's been mentioned already, but it would be great to guarantee the player has some agency on each day by guaranteeing ideally a minimum of 2 daily actions by tweaking the randomizer. I also wound up with two Pigeon McFly's in my aviary at the same time 😅. Either way, it was a fun time.

Die-Giorno by BorderDestroyer 2023-05-05T03:28:07Z

Great job on the ambiance and use of sound design. I also love the voxel fences, very cute touch.

wizard path by slimetrash 2023-05-05T06:10:37Z

I love it when a game can establish this much mood and a brilliant puzzle mechanic with wise use of assets.

LD54 — Limited Space

for lonely giants by NewVid 2023-10-07T18:50:30Z

Nice music, fits the mood. Seems like you have the start of something nice here.

Bag of Clicks by Robbobin 2023-10-14T05:09:17Z

What incredible animation! The wizard is adorable, and even the cursors are juicy. The gameplay ramps up very nicely, introducing things at a casual pace, and eventually becomes hectic. Definitely my favorite LD54 game I've played so far!

The Crypt by Yury Kozhenov 2023-10-14T22:51:14Z

Neat idea, but it's pretty unfair. Missing an attack is extremely punishing, and there's no indicator of when/where a skeleton will spawn.

Noah's Ark Destroyer by TheAxe316 2023-10-14T22:03:52Z

I'm glad I stuck with this game, I was about to skip by it. Once I started getting a few animals, it was actually pretty fun. I love their unique behaviors! Really made me want to keep exploring and build the ultimate arsenal.

Moon Base Constructor by SeaM00se 2023-10-14T23:43:23Z

I love this aesthetic. Looks like you adhered strong to a palette, using just enough color to make the buildings pop. And the music is very relaxing.

I do wish there was a bit of opposition or something that created a bit of tension, as I find these types of games more enjoyable with a drive to complete the objective before dying, or the enemies get stronger, or something.

The theme was well executed in the build space, but I would have loved some arrow key camera controls. A little bit of zoom out (or smaller menus) would have been appreciated too, the interface tended to clutter the screen as I would watch the resources increase with the build menu prepared to place the building.

Ultimately, it's a solid game and I did enjoy it to completion.

Space! Ltd. by Boyar 2023-10-05T02:47:38Z

It's impressive to see such a well thought out puzzle game in a jam; I loved the art and mechanics.

I did get somewhat frustrated at level 3, as I'm red / green colorblind so I had to click each pattern every time to see what it contained. A small icon would have been a big help.

Tetryian by Yskuma 2023-10-14T19:03:19Z

Took me a second to figure everything out, but once I had a grasp on the ship building I had a blast. I have a soft spot for 1941-style games, and this did not disappoint.

I do appreciate the attention to detail where the projectiles spawn at different locations of the player's ship based on your build pattern.

I didn't notice any appreciable difference from the engines, as launching a ship without any engines seems to have fine maneuverability. Also, I made it a goal to build a ship that could use the particle wave weapon, but once I had the cash to do so it turned out to be less impressive than I was hoping for.

Overall a very fun entry, and great to see another build-your-own spacecraft game. I think you'll enjoy our game since we did something very similar.

Unlimited space by Recher 2023-10-14T20:12:06Z

I've never heard of Squarity before, but looking into it I'm extremely impressed by what you've done with it. As a programmer, it's kind of fun to me just browsing through the code while playing the game.

I love all the charm squeezed into this game. Excellent job creating unique passengers with quirky vocabularies to give them all different personalities.

Knight vs Crabs by ChoboChun 2023-10-07T19:27:05Z

Very cool CRT shader and glitch areas! The shifting arena also gave me some claustrophobic moments, nailed the theme with that.

Shotgun hockey by Gastar 2023-10-14T05:17:34Z

This would feel at home as a Mario Party minigame. Very creative take on the theme.

Capurrcino - Your Own Cat Café [v1.2] by Aetherswitch 2023-10-07T18:59:29Z

Very cute, I love that all the cats have names.

Bit Golf by badcop 2023-10-05T00:17:53Z

bit_golf_score.png

I was hoping someone would take a nerdy approach to the theme like this, well executed! I've been dabbling in embedded development, so data compression has been on my mind a lot lately 😅

A minor complaint I do have is, as a colorblind person, some of the colors weren't all that helpful when trying to analyze the output. It would have been nice if the color-coded • markers were replaced with ① or ➊, or some other distinct symbols.

Dogeon Survivor by Henno 2023-10-14T21:43:20Z

Very cute game. I like the moody lighting and the characters. It is very unforgiving though, having HP would have helped a lot for keeping the player invested longer (as well as giving more variety to the cards).

Farmer Defence by Gleb_yakovlev 2023-10-14T18:36:39Z

Pretty fun little game, I'm sure with some more time you could turn it into something great.

I noticed after getting my area built up that the towers can sort of "shove" each other by placing new towers down, causing them to slide off the grid. You may want to play with the tower's collision masking layers to fix that.

Ark of the Dogbear by doubley 2023-10-14T04:53:17Z

Never thought I'd see a game combine fishing and tetris. Very unique idea. I would've loved to see the score implemented, as well as a little more direction and a clear end-game objective.

Fac Spatium by nathmate 2023-10-07T19:19:53Z

I like the player, very cute design, and jives well with the geometric minimalism to the rest of the game.

The controls are a little awkward, could be improved with a little more feedback indicating what the bot's next action will be. I kept picking up the railgun thinking I was going to launch. There also seems to be a bug where the player can run out of resources while the rocket is launching, causing the player to lose the game, then have the screen changed to the win screen.

I also was a detective once but then... by Teamelon 2023-10-07T19:10:44Z

Shame the game was cut short, would've liked to have seen it all played out. I also noticed there's no collision preventing the player from walking too far left/right and exiting the rooms.

DeskStop-30 by Turner Austin 2023-10-14T05:33:24Z

I didn't even know something like that was possible on the Pico-8. I like your approach to the theme as well, as it simplified the concept of running out of "space" on a computer by having a file limit, represented by the icon grid. Very quirky and impressive entry!

Dancing With Bombs by Koxsol 2023-10-14T20:23:47Z

Wow, this game really made me think. I got up to 103 turns. Excellent implementation of strategy and emergent gameplay (thanks to the push mechanic). I love seeing games like this because it's so inspiring to see something so simple be so fun.

LD55 — Summoning

Age of Research by ping78 2024-04-20T17:02:10Z

Really interesting take on RTS and tower defense. I like the idea of units with short lifespans, really makes the economy of actions more important. Interface could have used a little work, it took me a while to figure out how to move the base. Overall, very impressive game for a compo!

Replicate-You by loveapplegames 2024-04-20T17:39:49Z

Screenshot from 2024-04-20 13-35-51.png

For some reason, my game freezes when training the neural net. I've given it around 300 moves to train on.

In case it's relevant, my PC is beefy (Ryzen 7800X3D, RTX 3080), running firefox with hardware acceleration, on linux.

Lich Dungeon by Enver Arco 2024-04-20T17:26:30Z

I also struggled with the hitboxes for clicking the summons. Bigger hitboxes and a mouse hover indicator would help out a lot.

Overall it was fun. Very cute take on the theme, and excellent music!
