Sometimes you can only place 2 or 3 animals per day, even if you have more available, not sure if that is intended or not. But pretty cool game regardless.
Foon → Ludum Dare Explorer → LD54 → Ark of the Dogbear

@johntronco Thank you!
Yes they do cost 5 fish per placement. So depending on how you spend your fish points you may be unable to place all of them in a day. Treasure you find is free though!
Interesting concept. From what I learned, exploration points are automatic, and the fishing points are the ones you work for, at least in that current state.
I think the game could use a little more explanation--if I hadn't played Stardew Valley, I might not have understood the fishing minigame. I also had a hard time wrapping my head around the packing portion.
Either way, the visuals look pretty!
This was an interesting play. I really enjoyed the art and visuals. I did run into some issues in placing blocks down just on the left hand side, the right worked. Otherwise, game mechanics went very smoothly. Nice job on the game :)
I know you marked this as an unfinished game, but I thought the fishing mini game was fairly well done. The movement of the fish and the speed of your fishing marker trying to catch it seemed fairly well tuned to me. Very similar feel to that of Stardew valley and other games that have it. Well done!
Very relaxing! I'm not sure the final score screen works, or maybe I did just get 0 :smile:
@lexyvil Thanks for playing my first jam game!
The exploration treasure tokens are free to grab and place on the board yes. No fish cost to place treasure. Though i wish I had time to finish the sprites and label the treasure so that was clear.
Nice game! I liked the idea of having to fit the pieces in the small space, while paying for them in a minigame. The fishing minigame was a bit frustrating at times, though. when the fish can move faster than your cursor, sometimes there's literally nothing you can do but sit and watch as it moves away from you and there is literally no way to catch it. Having the fishing cursor move faster and accelerate a little more chaotically might achieve a similar effect without having it feel so bad when a fish decides to be uncatchable for 4 whole seconds. was confused by the scoring until I read the description. I like the scoring conditions, and think it was a good idea that would add to the tetris part a lot. Also the art on the fishing minigame is superb! Good job
@derek-glennon Thank you for playing!
Yes the final score screen is unfortunately something I did not quite get to. I planned to have a few more metrics for points besides filling up the boat and then present those scores at the end. Ah well glad you enjoyed!
It gets a bit repetitive after the second say but it's a solid game. Managed to fill the boat (with a few empty slots) in 5 days :)
@t-c @kasmilus Thank you very much for such detailed feedback!
I really appreciate the time it took to play and rate my first jam game. Happy Ludum Dare!
PS. I absolutely agree on the fishing. The fishing parameters definitely need some love XD
I like the two phases of the gameplay and their relation to each other. The fishing scene reset for each fish is mildly disturbing but otherwise it felt good. It's a shame you didn't get the different kind of cargo and scoring implemented, would have definitely made the game more rewarding and interesting.
If you plan to improve the game, rotating the cargo would be a nice addition.
Good job.
Nice little mini-games. Cute graphics and good use of audio clips. Well done!
I like the sound effects very much but the gameplay is a bit slow and confusing. Overall very creative concept and I hope to see more in a near future.
Nice game, I like how you mixed two very different mechanics
Cute game
I like the sound but the game was hard to understand and an interesting take on two game mechanics. The transitions from scene to scene was abit abrupt too but good game
Never thought I'd see a game combine fishing and tetris. Very unique idea. I would've loved to see the score implemented, as well as a little more direction and a clear end-game objective.
