lol this entry is really fun, I can tell you had just as much fun comming up with the dialogs and all the voice acting. really love the consept of the game and the fact that it has 3 cases instead of 1. tho the only case I got right was the first one  I knew the cat was innocent..

lbrande 2022-10-03 22:27

I loved the idea that you save time by not listening to finish. The voice-acting was also very well done. I did not quite manage to solve the harder cases.

Excellent entry, voice acting is superb and I love the fast paced interviews. Art is wonderful too Thoroughly enjoyed playing this, well done!

compatibilty issues :(

100th-coin 2022-10-04 00:27

The concept of a whodunnit where you switch suspects every ten seconds is BRILLIANT. I'm bad at this genre, but I absolutely loved every second of it. The characters are incredibly well drawn, the voice acting is outstanding, and every single character has so much personality! I LOVE the adventurer who will not stop talking. Absolutely fantastic entry.

If you want some more feedback, here's a recording of myself checking out the game:

Actually a masterpiece, the voice acting is top notch, the art is superb. I encountered no bugs and the game is incredibly well designed with the clocks in the background as well as the music + audio clues on the time ticking by. The writing was amazing and the UI beautiful. Just superb overall!

pusheeneiro 2022-10-04 07:48

Great art, sound, idea and voice acting. Wow, it's such a fun game made in 72h. Congratulations to the entire team.

melbadream 2022-10-04 10:41

Pros: - It's so much fun! - Amazing graphics and voice acting - Amazing dialogs and characters (the idea with the cat made me laugh)

Cons / Feedback: - AAAhJKQDHSJKFHJDKHK oh, the frustration. Changing every ten seconds is of course very thematic and also brings a time pressure to finish the game BUT the sentences are way too long for 10s (sometimes I could not even click on a dialog option for a character before the timer ended because I was still hearing the previous character's. The voice acting really adds to the game, but with this timing, an option to have the entire dialog written without waiting for the voice would alleviate some of the frustration. Also, you get randomly pulled out of a dialog without warning to end the game, and often selecting a random suspect because you did not really have the time to solve the mystery. This is a shame, because the system of gradually unlocking dialog options is great, and the scenario, characters, and dialog are really awesome! I wanted to see more, explore all the dialog options, but I gave up in the end :( - An indication of already heard line would be really cool (with 5 characters, it was pretty much impossible to keep track of it, even if selection the options in order - which defeat the purpose of the game)

Bugs: - In the main menu, the name of the second and third mysteries is hidden by the blackened icons when not hovered - Text was not always synced with voice acting - The first dialog of the third character in the scepter story does not show in text

arcticlion 2022-10-04 12:41

Awesome idea, really liked how closely with the theme it fit. Was that seriously one voice actor what an insane amount of lines and recording that must've been with such a large range very well done.

My biggest complaint would probably be how long you get to make your pick i always felt way too rushed and that i had 0 time to piece my final decision together it often felt like a guess because of this. Best example is during the second puzzle the guy drops the fact you can arrest multiple people which COMPLETELY recontextualises all the info ive already gathered, giving me 2 seconds to think about that. Not even sure if you need a timer on the final lock in because its not like you can squeeze any more info out of the suspects. Maybe i would just make it quite long so you are forced eventaully to make a decision.

That is just about my only non nit-picky complaint though. Very well made game good job team!!

TELL YOUR ARTISTS THAT I LOVE THEM

liii22 2022-10-04 22:16

Art style and detective setting is just awesome!! I would never tell this was made in 4 days. Cool!

bcmpinc 2022-10-05 01:30

@melbadream Ah, yes, Maxwell Maximus. He's such a blabbermouth, goes on and on and just won't stop talking. My teammate transcribed his text. Told me it was absolute hell. I guess he skipped one of the audio files. Can't blame him. Maximus doesn't have anything of value to tell anyway. He's just there wasting your time. Anyway, this was done intentionally. You're supposed to be careful of how you spend your time and cut off answers that don't go anywhere.

I agree about the scene transition. We probably should've at least fade out the one talking. Maybe add some tense background music to indicate you're nearing the end. Originally we planned on having the interrogation be a fixed length and this could be part of the background music. Due to the differing number of suspects and complexity of the cases, that wasn't an option.

The name of the mysteries not being readable is intentional. You're a detective after all and have to investigate. Having the Missing Pie case be visible is both because the menu screen has keyboard navigation and because it's the tutorial case so people should pick it first.

Synchronizing subtitles with spoken audio is a very time consuming process. We decided to not bother and went for having the text reveal itself at a constant pace. Worked out well enough in the end. Most of the time its reasonably well synchronized.

We thought about building in some indication to show what lines you've already heard, but did not have time to implement it.

Absolutely gorgeous presentation all around. Can't believe this is a weekend project. One thing I would like to point out is how it is kind of unfortunate that the decision making is so much easier on the final triplet mystery. The artifact mystery had more suspects and multiple possible combinations, especially since you could even pick out more than just two people. Unfortunately since it's only three people and no combinations for the triplet mystery it becomes significantly easier to just guess right without having to think it through. Phenomenal work!

mr-alias 2022-10-05 03:34

Thank you all for such positive feedback :D Had an amazing time doing all the voices for this. Our team is small but PACKED with brilliant folks! Super happy with how it turned out!

mr-alias 2022-10-05 03:36

@100th-coin Awesome to see your reaction! Thanks for the vid and feedback :D

diegogary25 2022-10-05 03:45

This game is a 5/5 in every aspect, it looks really polished and it was so fun to play, congrats!

bytomancer 2022-10-05 05:51

Easily a perfect score game for me, everything about it was lovely. It's clear you all put a lot of work into this, and I think it could grow into something bigger. I loved playing through each mystery multiple times to uncover more dialogue and get a picture of the entire scene.

I do have a concern about the way the round ends at 100 seconds. It does not feel rewarding to be asked to guess the culprit only to guess correctly based on 0 tangible evidence, as I did with 2 of the mysteries. I believe the game's experience would be improved if instead of guessing the culprit you could collect "clues" from the dialogue, and once the player found the correct set of "clues" they could be asked to make a choice. Essentially, a hidden tally could be kept of the important messages that players have encountered, and the round would only end after they've found all of the required messages. I understand the constraints of a game jam, but that's something I hope you consider if you continue working on this game.

projectcolorball 2022-10-05 06:56

those paper card style art looks fantastic!(check ours plz!)

chybby 2022-10-05 09:24

Very good voice acting and sounds in general!

I solved all the cases but I can't say I understand why my guess was right for all of them haha.

I feel like it would make more sense if the answers to questions were at max 10 seconds long so you could move on to the next suspect without having to cut off the previous one.

wouter52 2022-10-05 11:12

Sadly I do not have the best videocard in the world, so I can't play/rate your game. :-(

Awesome game - I enjoyed it very much. The music is spot-on, the papercraft graphics are great, and the animations are sweet and amusing. The concept is interesting as well - with the switching of suspects and the fast pace. I solved the two first cases on my first try, but had to do two for the triplets (I was so sure they all did it together on my first go ).

Great work on the game!

Also: "Mr Montgomery has three sons, all twins" - the impossibility of that simple statement made me roll with laughter

mr-alias 2022-10-05 13:31

@bytomancer thanks for the feedback! We did want to implement a clue+suspect combo, and might do so in a future update:D

natpat 2022-10-07 00:15

Love a good mystery! The voice acting was a lovely surprise, and very well done considering time constraints. I loved the art style as well - the slight 3D effect when moving the cursor was really lovely and helped add a lot of depth. The cases were different enough to be interesting, and I liked the diferent themes and crimes. The characters were all different, memorable and well styled. I loved the music as well, and the little intro to each case was a really lovely touch.

The mechanic itself of having 10 seconds to interogate didn't land particularly well for me though, unfortunately. I liked the idea of having to cut people off and use your time wisely, but I also found that because you had to listen right to the end and only a particular question unlocked the next question, it meant I just took a brute force approach to listening to everything to see what unlocked what. When I was doing that, the whole 10 seconds thing and total time to solve the case just became a bit annoying as I restarted the case over and over to find out what everyone had to say. Which was sad, because the cases themselves were actually really good!

I also wasn't completely sure why the answer for the second case was as it was. There was no smoking gun that I could find, just some small hunches and things that didn't add up. Potentially that was all there was, but it didn't really feel like I solved the case - instead that I had just had my suspicions confirmed.

It's a really well polished and well done entry - just potentially feels like the theme has been shoe-horned in a little too hard and doesn't quite fit with the detective genre.

la-bread 2022-10-07 01:56

AAAAHHHH THISI S SO GOOD I LOVE IT as a fan of ace attorney I love this interrogation style of game, my only gripe was that the vocal lines were longer than 10 seconds so I would have to withhold from asking the next person a question. Thankfully I was able to enlargen my cranium and book em all on the first go around. I really hope you guys do a full version with a more generous time limit without the pressure of a jam.

diego-teran 2022-10-07 06:42

Enjoyed everything about it, Feels really polished!

robobarbie 2022-10-08 04:50

really fun art and concept. i wasn't very good at it LOL, but i had a good time! was nice to hear some voice acting!!!

epicgamefan 2022-10-11 01:23

Unique fun entry. I really like the art and how polished it the experience felt. Impressed with the amount of voice acting which was done very well. Great concept.

monika 2022-10-11 02:29

Fun idea and an absolutely brilliant execution! I love everything about this. I made my cat watch it.

Others have mentioned that the third case seems too easy compared to the second one, but if you changed the order, then fewer people might decide to play the fantastic museum one. I don't have any real solution for this except completely reworking the third puzzle to be harder or have more gimmicks, but that's obviously not a useful suggestion.

mudlee 2022-10-11 08:01

It's clear it wasn't your first game. A well polished and completed one. The music, the voice acting and all goes together really well. Not to mention small effects like the clock's pointer's ticking or the parallax effect on mouse, etc. I enjoyed pretty much, even though I'm very bad at games like this :D Good job!

reyansh 2022-10-11 11:04

The exe wasn't opening for me, so could you make a postjam web version pls?

perrin 2022-10-11 15:12

One of my fav entries this year, a ton of fun with a lot of charm and great production. My only real complaint is the 10 second switch not matching with the dialogs from the suspects. I don't think the game sets you up very well to succeed because you either wait to hear our the previous suspect or switch to the new one. This means on the first run it's hard to make a logical deduction and just end up guessing.

hexyvexy 2022-10-12 16:50

Fantastic concept and the production values are spot-on. A couple of polish tweaks: -Often lines would continue playing even though I had moved on to another suspect. -The aforementioned lack of a "played" indicator on the dialogue prompts led to some minor friction.

skel3ton 2022-10-12 19:46

A very nice game... although there was a ten-second time limit and I would have appreciated it more if I had, for example, two minutes to crack it, but I understand that the topic was clearly specified and you dealt with it as best as possible. And you dealt with him very well...

molpe 2022-10-19 23:03

So great! The voice acting is perfect! Great idea for the game, a little confused about the twin triplets there, is that also a clue? But I got all the endings  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZUSMshNXCw
