I download, unzipped, and ran the linux version from terminal but it threw the following error: [xcb] Unknown sequence number while processing reply [xcb] Most likely this is a multi-threaded client and XInitThreads has not been called [xcb] Aborting, sorry about that. TheRuns: ../../src/xcb_io.c:641: _XReply: Assertion `!xcb_xlib_threads_sequence_lost' failed. Aborted (core dumped)
Very funny concept and I thought it was creative to speed up and zoom out as you're running. I grabbed the plunger and found the overflowing toilet but couldn't figure out how to repair it. Other than that it was a very fun puzzle
Bro LMAO I had to click this game as soon as I saw the title. For those trying to play on ubuntu/debian you'll need to run `sudo apt install libsfml-dev` first.
Lots of nice lil details in the game. Well executed for sure. Cheese power up got me howlin :sob:
Good sense of humor and spot on to the theme. Maybe a bit too easy; I think I had a more difficult time trying to lose on purpose than I did trying to win 😂
@kason-xiv Thanks for the suggestion! I tried packing all the dependencies in with the tarball but I figure I missed a few, I'll go update the instructions for now.
A really creative entry that I had fun playing through! This game fit the theme so well it's amazing, and it played pretty smoothly as well. I liked the variety of assets and how they were used to create a pretty big level that I had fun exploring.
Good game, the map is massive and I felt kinda directionless at times so there are some mild design flaws. As someone who made games exclusively with SFML for a long ass time I am extremely impressed with what u were able to do lol. It feels polished and the mood is good. Ignoring the design flaws, it was a pretty good game. I'd just recommend some music, I think it would add a lot to it. Good entry!
what a great take on the theme, a confusing map but it was an addicting rush and solving the puzzle to fix the plumbing was awesome
Good job managing to capture the rush and panic like no other. Fun game, funny premise, lots of detail, huge amount of work, massive map, great Easter eggs. I really enjoyed it, but I did find the movement system a little annoying at times, especially getting through doors, and having random kids jump out at you :D A minimap / some greyed out icons of what needs to be found would help the player along a bit, helping them know what to do, though having to explore whilst needing to go is quite funny. The text popups were a little buggy. Great job though this was a fun one!
Did not launched for me. No crash logfile appeared in folder.
@gdesecrate What platform are you on? Windows or Linux?
@bytomancer Windows 10, thinkpad x220 (old integrated videocard)
The most delightful time I've ever had trying not to crap my pants. XD
I love how the music picks up tempo as you accelerate - in fact, the whole acceleration mechanic (rewarding careful steering!) gets some high marks from me. That said, I feel like the collision detection is a little unforgiving - I think it would've been more fun if I didn't have to be so precise sliding through doors at high speed.
I also love the puzzle/exploration elements - finding the key, wrench, and plunger, fixing the pipes, and all five pieces of toilet paper (even if four out of five of them are right next to each other in the corner of the map XD). I'm not sure whether to appreciate or be disappointed in the fact that the items are all in fixed positions, though - once you know everything is, the challenge is mainly a function of "how fast can you do it," though that means speedrunners are sure to have fun with it! XD
I POOPED! Nice concept, the accelerating gameplay makes the school exploration addictive!
Oh man, what a journey. I saw this a few days ago and thought the concept was hilarious. I've been avoiding downloading LD games and only playing web-based ones though for safety reasons. I saw your game today on the "danger" list and realized you hadn't received 20 votes yet! I decided to download an ubuntu VM just so I could play this.
I downloaded the iso, set up the VM, tried playing and -- no sound! I googled around, tried tweaking sound device after sound device, played test sounds, nothing. I tried testing playing a video in a web browser in the VM just to see if it was just the game. It locked the VM up, so I had to restart and try again. I was deep in the bowels of virtualbox forums. After spending a while debugging, I gave up and deleted the VM.
I thought to myself... maybe I should just take the risk and try the windows version on my computer directly. I downloaded the file, went to execute, and windows warned me it hadn't seen this file before! It might be dangerous! Of course, I knew this when I downloaded, but it was enough to make me have second thoughts. I decided to give up and not play.
After that, I went to youtube to listen to some music. Nothing played. Dammit. *my volume was off the whole time*. WHY DID I DELETE THE VM INSTEAD OF JUST LEAVING IT ON MY HARD DRIVE. I HAVE 4TB OF SPACE. DID I REALLY NEED TO RECLAIM THAT? Sigh. I start up the installation for a second time. But wait... actually, what if I just do the "try" version of ubuntu, the one I don't have to install? That should be faster!
I launch it up, go to configure the display size and... instant crash. I restart and start the installation again. I try playing a test file in the terminal and nothing. I restart the VM and change my device settings. I try playing the test file again -- still nothing! WTF. Then I think: what if it's just that that terminal command doesn't work? I go to the page to download The Runs, and as I'm waiting, I see a video in the sidebar. That'll be a good way to test the audio, I think to myself, stupidly. (It crashes the VM). I restart, try running The Runs, and it finally works, sound and all.
Anyway, I love the game. Interesting mechanics with the running and zoom out system. Unlike the other comments, I think the map's size is kind of the whole point! I don't think it would be nearly as interesting without it. It took me three -- ahem -- runs to beat the game. I love the "unconventional" powerups.
It was all worth it. Great art style. Reminds me of Pokemon if the theme were tweaked slightly. Lots of funny little things throughout the school.
Nice game
Nice game. Gameplay is fun but map is a little bit consusing it is to big for me. Anyways the game looks great. Well done
Love the easter eggs and inappropriate stuff on the blackboards. The humor is amazing and I really like the pop up texts like "oof" when you bump into someone or the comments when you pick up an item. The gameplay is a bit tedious because it feels slow to regain the momentum and it is so easy to bump into stuff. Nonetheless, I appreciate the small touches like someone burying their head in poop next to the toilet.
This was a lot of fun!
I agree with some other commenters that the momentum felt a little weird - very slow to built from a dead stop, but then really hard to control once I got going. I appreciate the intention behind that but it didn't feel quite balanced.
All in all, a pretty fun & complete package.
(I did have an issue where the game crashed on launch, on Win 10 - but then the second time I tried it worked fine so not sure what that's about.)
oooo nice job! I love this graphic style, cool!
games really nice. Really fun, art reminded me A LOT to the escapist. sometimes i felt that my progress was really slow. specially if i havesome sort of setback. but with a little tweak should be fine. great job
That... is an interesting interpretation of the theme
