The sound track is a Jam! Very fun infinite runner!
Quite a silly game. The hit sfx seems a little too loud, but I had fun playing the game. Though the game wasn't long, it did have a good amount of variety. Good work!
This game is very fun. The one-button playstyle is very enjoyable. I do really like the art assets used for this game, and I think the music also makes the game feel complete. The touch of effects whenever you actually use the action are very well animated and designed. Although, one thing is the graphics don't feel very in tune with each other, and the game loop is a bit shallow. Maybe a combo meter or counter would make you have a reason to keep going!
@burnedkirby - ahh, I forgot to turn them back down, doh! Thank you for notifying me at least, will try to fix it later after the jam. I'm super sick and my ears are both full, so couldn't hear it unless I turned the sfx all the way up.
@kent-lizardo - I had considered *exactly* that! But easily ran out of time, as you can imagine. :) But thanks for the kind words!
@triangle-point - thanks for that! I'm glad you enjoyed it.
Pretty fun. It would be cool if there was a reason not to mash the spacebar.
Pretty nice. Intuitive and fun. Art is lovely. The best part is how easy is to catch with the "single" input thing. Amazing submission!
@karlthecool - there is sometimes, although it's hard to get and I didn't have time to fix it. Sometimes you _want_ the bowling cannonball to hit you, so you can move back in front of an enemy to move them forward so you don't lose treasure. But that's nearly impossible to show without a direct demonstration, which was my bad. But I'm glad you thought it fun, at least! I do intend to add some kind of meter in the future, to prevent infinite mashing.
@rjerez192 - oh my, thank you so much. Your words mean more than you know!
I beat the game with a score of 28, but I still don't really know what I was doing or was supposed to be doing the entire time other than pressing space bar repeatedly.
Still, very good music and very cute graphics.
Those pirates are so cute. Love the sound effects and the music is great. Simple and effective nice job!
I really like a game where the input is simple to understand. Using one key/mouse click for everything made it easy to enjoy. I was going to say that is one really long boat, but then I was attacking mummies and such. The length of the boat didnt matter at that stage. Really great submission, I enjoyed playing :)
Nice one! very simple but interesting. I would prefer it to be more close to the theme, but still, it was a very good game.
Can't play the game, get the following error: Error The following features required to run Godot projects on the Web are missing: Cross Origin Isolation - Check web server configuration (send correct headers)
That is playing through the itch.io desktop player and Firefox.
@netrunner-nobody - yeah, it was hard to explain it all through text when the production period was just a couple hours long. :P My bad! But thanks for playing and the kind words!
@peterfiftyfour - I'm really glad you liked it!
@haydads - the very first boat was probably too long, wanted to introduce a lot of concepts. I should have introduced them over more levels! Thank you for the kind words though!
@greenphox - Yes, I was definitely a little light on the theme. I thought of ways to improve that...about 10 minutes after the submission deadline. :P Thanks for playing!
@wahooney - that's a well-known issue: Firefox does not run Godot games most of the time. I've had some folks say it worked fine, but far more are like you. If you try it in Chrome, it should work. :/ Which is not a fix I like to suggest of course, because Chrome is awful.
Nice game, I liked the power-ups, music and high enemy variety. The hardest enemy was definitely the cloud covering the view, lol. The screen shake at the last level was a little too much, I didn't know what was going on and why I was losing the treasure. But in the end I've got the daughter as a prize so that's cool :princess:
Got rich, married into royalty, learned that Blackbeard has a pistol that he just generally refuses to use.
A nice amount of content here! One thing: the "enemy hit" sound effect clips in a way that's a bit unpleasant for headphone users. Still, that was fun! A good amount of variety for a one-button game.
@kgurniak91 - oh yeah, the wave (everyone thought it was a cloud :P) is hard to work through! That was sort of the intent, but I'm glad you liked it at least! And yeah, I was debating on reducing the probability of the screen shake, clearly I should have taken it down a bit more. I think I was at just 25% chance of it, should have tried 20%, oh well!
@john-gabriel - I did not know that, sorry! I didn't think to try headphones on. I wonder why it was clipping though. I'll look into that, thanks so much for the feedback! No pun intended...I guess.
Nice little game! I enjoyed playing, a lot of things going on for these simple ingredients. Cool entry!
@fnelix - thanks! That was exactly my hope: a bunch of really simple ideas brought together to make something slightly more complex.
A neat little game, but it feels the incentive to actually do everything all right, like a highscore or upgrade to pay is missing. Not sure if you can die? Other than that, more levels maybe automatically generated could be great.
Nice game, I liked that you have to time your attack in order to hit every enemy/take swings. The upgrades are nice too!
@zenbreaker - You can die! By running out of treasure, i.e. allowing too many people to get by or falling into too many pits. But ultimately I do agree with you that it needed to be more forward-facing and obvious.
@buni - thanks! And yeah, I was happy when I had that idea.
Great game! Very satisfying, audiowork is palpable and graphics are just adorable. And pushing bouncy little pirats felt incredible.
I did catch a bug though: I fell into a hole on double swings, level restarted without any text and then I died on the same spot as soon as I got there, without falling or loosing any treasure.
Other than that, cute game. Last level got me by surprise, not gonna lie. Would love to play extended post-jam version!
Ahh rats! Good find. I did notice you can sometimes get into the pit and grab the rope too late, and the tweens fight it out. I suspect that's what you ran into, so great catch! I may indeed be attempting to improve this game and publish it on mobile - found out it works on my phone's browser just before submitting, and had a blast with it.
Nice game! Here are a couple comments in no particular order: - Art is very nice - Background and more sound effect variety would go a long way - Font doesnt fit with the art style - I liked the upgrades although they could be more impactful - Really liked the different mechanics implemented for only one button controls - I found it a little difficult to figure out ropes and grabbing them (small hitbox) - Unclear how I lost the game in my first playthrough - Consider toning down the screnshake a bit :)
Overall good job on the game!
@richard-baltrusch - hard agree on all points! Thank you so much for the feedback, really useful! And for the kind words.
A great experience. Quick, fun, and easy to understand! A great job!
@niclee - thank you so much! That means more than you might guess.
nice graphics! ropes can be a bit glitchy, and also a bit hard to understand how to get better!
@teadrinker - yeah, it wasn't obvious from the get-go that you get upgrades throughout, and they're not the most effective. I need to improve my numbers and balance a lot more than I did! But thanks for the feedback!
Fun little game. Although it seems a bit easy. I also felt like I could just spam spacebar (maybe it is the swing cooldown upgrades?).
awesome one button runner. had loads of fun. that's the important thing, right?
This is a fun game. Good variety of enemies that are visually distinct from one another, and the upgrade system is a nice touch.
@randompickle13 - I actually didn't get to balance those at all. π€£ Guess you found a good shortcut!
@trakina - that's high praise, thank you!
@csimpson - cool, thanks for the kind words!
You should make that pirate with the pistol be the final boss and shoot at you so you have to deflect the bullets in between hits.
Nice fun little game, congratulations!
@lex - I definitely wanted to! But simply didn't have enough time, as my normal enemy workflow for this game is just stationary characters. I like that idea though quite a lot! Thanks!
It reminds me the classic arcade games. One button, but still so much fun.
Maybe the music was too "modern" for the aesthetics of the game, but I think that's more like my personal taste, than a bad thing. The grahics were cute, controls were pretty responsive and I really adored that rope mechanic! WEEEEEE.
Thanks so much, Eru @iluvatar! I agree on the music, had wanted to fit a shanty in there but couldn't seem to find one in time, and I'm about as tone-deaf as they come.
@kylethecoder No problem, really it was just a thing that I wanted to mention, it didn't take away the cool experience. Shanty would be awesome though!
Really enjoyed the graphics and the music, took a few times to get the hang of hitting the rope at the right time, but then I really enjoyed slashing people while swinging around :)
This is mobile game waiting to happen
@freamdev - I tried to add some forgiveness to the ropes, but completely agreed, it was a tad too hard to hit them. It had to do with the darn collision shape for the pit itself being a little too big. Thanks for playing and for the kind words!
@kirkami - it actually already works on the phone! I tried it the other day, the web version actually seems to work (on Chrome at least) and is very fun, as you may think. :) I intend to turn it into a full-blown one though once I've had some time and actually gotten my team - who make much better art and music - to have a whack at it!
It's surprising what you can do with just one button! I like the large variety of mechanics and different enemy types. The art is cute and looks great. Sound effects are great too. Good work!
@real-human-1000 - thanks! Yeah, I wanted to see what all types of obstacles I could put in that would be interesting if you only had the one button, and think I managed something successful, at least!
Perfect jam game - nice and coherent graphics, fun to play, reasonably challenging and with great music. You really nailed it! I think that dying sound got a little bit repetitive after a while, but that's really nitpicking. Great job!
@dzejpi - thanks so much! That means a lot to me. I agree with the dying sound being repetitive. I had intended to get several and randomize them, but ran out of time. Thanks for the feedback, helps me out immensely!
A very fun endless runner! I especially liked how the same input was used to do multiple different interactions depending on the situation. The upgrades between levels were really nice, but not quite tangible enough. I would've loved to continuously upgrade my guy to slowly become a pirate of unspeakable power and a machine of destruction. Good work!
@eyedromeda - Completely agreed! Could easily have approached Vampire Survivor steel-ball-of-death levels! I should have gone for that, hadn't even occurred to me with the powerups. For the mobile game! Thanks!
The game is fun. I see you put a lot of effort into it. Good graphics and music. Nice work!
Good fun. Love the one button mechanic, drum and bass and pirates!
@synthol - thanks so much, means a lot!
@tom-cumpsty - I'm glad you liked it!
Highlight: Tempo
Lowlight: Unclear Rules
A fantastic game that does a really great job of maintaining a tempo. A lot of this is probably contributed by the music, but also the frequency of enemies/obstacles. Having only a single button to press also helped give it a sense of rhythm. The only thing I can really complain about is that I wasn't sure what the rules were such as what treasure did or what stats like heavy swing meant.
Lovely game! I like the use of canon-firing camera shake and the waves to block the player's view, very clever!
Not gonna lie, when I saw the title and the miniature picture I thought about 'pirate fighting the pensioners' (as the silver flood or something lol)
I liked it overall. The controls are easy to learn, there's not much of a difficulty spike and the gameplay is exactly how you would expect. I liked the main character animation! (reminds me of a Looney Tunes a bit)
I actually managed to not get the rope and still get to the other side without dying, probably a framerate bug or something.
Good entry! Wish it was a bit more towards `delivery` side of things though, but maybe it's just me :)
So cute! I love this!
I really enjoyed the art style - spunky, cartoonish, and it reads very well! Between the swell of the ocean and the cannon smoke - it really does create an adventurous feel!
Watching blackbeard tumble off into the ocean brought a big smile to my face. And the ghost-ship twist! So fun!
I really like how the rope-swing and ball-jumps were telegraphed with the arrows - very well done.
Excellent job!
Really fun, enjoyed being able to pick my upgrades at the end of each level
@mikoziq - all excellent points! I agree that it was a tad light on the theme, but was just trying to finish. I didn't end up conveying as much plot as I wanted either, purely due to running out of time. Thanks for playing though!
@ugly-robot - that is awesome! Very happy you liked it. The arrows were a last-minute add when a friend mentioned he couldn't really see the cannonballs at all, and I went back and fixed the ropes with it, too. I'm glad you liked it! I wanted Blackbeard to be the end guy, but ultimately that just wasn't how it had to be, and that's okay! Thank you so much!
@asieke - I'm glad you liked it! I was hoping the upgrades weren't too minimal, was having trouble coming up with them (and then testing!) in the last hour. :P Thanks for playing, much appreciated!
This is really nifty! I liked how you only needed 1 button regardless of the action (be it attacking or rope-swinging etc). I loved how the enemies can fly at the screen too. It's fast paces and not too easy, not too forgiving either! Overall, good work!
@weirdbitgames - thanks very much! That's exactly what I was going for. :)
this was a nice little experience :) i love all the visual polish, everything is so juicy and bouncy. ghost ship made me LOL
@dishwand - Oh yeah, was trying to find a proper ending! If the rest is going to be bonkers, might as well make the end ship super silly. :D Thanks for playing!
very cute game, love the beats! some more juice when attacking the dudes like some hitstop would be splendid
I like the idea of a simple one button runner game, but with how generous the timing is this feels a bit *too* simple. The enemies can be taken out with little effort just by mashing the button. The rope swings are a little more challenging to time, but not by much.
That said, the way the screen shakes and the enemies fly all over the place does make it satisfying to take them out despite the simplicity. The graphics overall are very appealing. I particularly like the main character's cartoony running animation. There's also a surprising amount of variety in enemy designs and scenery for such a short game. The audio is pretty good too, thought the boing sound for defeating enemies is a tad loud.
Fun game, good job! I played until I had it bug out a little and my character disappeared. I love the music and the art is cute. I like the simple one button but you do multiple things depending on the context. Very well done!
Nice idea! I managed to figure out what I was doing pretty earlier on and the music seemed to suit the game well!
Very fun game, love any game with upgrade systems. I will say the audio needs balancing but other than that, superb job!
Always cool to see a well executed one button game ^^ Some really well executed mechanics/features. Would like a bit more feedback when getting hit/dying, felt unclear at times when I was/wasn't being hit, but overall nice job!
@aplovestudio - thanks! I agree something else would have been nice, though I generally only use hit-stop when there are animations. I think it would be a bit too much for as many enemies as there were, too. :P But overall I love suggestions like that and maybe I'll try to implement something for the Big Bads when I work on the mobile version!
@veralos - well, I have a lot of people saying they couldn't figure out the timing. Maybe I'll make a difficulty selector in the future, to make it harder! I appreciate all the feedback, thank you!
@remus - I guess you hit the one bug remaining that I couldn't figure out: falling into a pit but hitting the button and not quite flying into it properly but instead continuing to go, but then falling and it's just weird. :P But thanks for playing, and yeah, the context thing was exactly what I was experimenting with recently in Godot, because 4.0 now has lambdas and Callables - glad it worked out perfectly!
@louiejams - my main hope was honestly just to make a game that could be digested in seconds. It's meant to not have anything so complex that you need more than a couple lines of text, and otherwise everything is intended to be intuitive. Thanks for playing!
@legingergamer - glad you liked the upgrades - while they were planned all along, they were very last-minute! :P Thanks for playing!
@frey - I agree! The bowling ball (the only thing which really hits you) was actually somewhat painful to implement and had a bunch of bugs. I almost cut it before the end, but figured out what was wrong with 10 minutes left, so fixed it and submitted. The dying lacking a feedback, yeah, that was pure time miss-management! :P Thanks for the kind words and for playing!
Funny and cool game^^
I love intro, it's so snobbishly xd I like your gameplay but i don't get my final goal as a player
Overall it's a great job!!!
And art is SO CUTE
I really love itπ
Good art lacking in game-play mechanics. The one button worked design against the game an example would be jumping over the cannon balls.
@qwillak - thanks, appreciate it! And yeah, good feedback!
@mlists - actually, most people disagree with you! I'm not sure what you mean by jumping over cannon balls as working against the design. Could you elaborate?
I had no idea a one button game could be this fun!
Fanny game! Good artwork!
Wow, this is pretty great, I got into a flow state and just kept going until the end. Really wish I got swing cooldown earlier tho. It seems like a really important pickup. Fun game!
Loved the pixel art!
Simple but cute and fun. Very complete for a compo game. Maybe another button for the defensive actions could have been nice too, cause atm spamming left click ends up working fine.
Indeed for the music you should make it yourself when entering the 48h - Compo. You can use free stuff for the 72h - Jam only.
@yorsh - that's why I opted out of music! But I'm glad you liked it anyway! I tried my best.
@nbrowning5 - it's the first time I felt okay about my own art. π Thanks!
@tinykidtoo - that's awesome! I nearly broke a finger playtesting it (simply from clicking too much :P), and felt that was a good thing! And yes, cooldown upgrade is slightly over-powered, but I was okay with that. Thanks for playing!
@kristallllllik - thanks so much!
@obe-dot - yeah, it takes a lot of effort but it's doable! Thanks for playing!
Basic but good game. But especially i think there is a lack of feedback in the game.
I love when games are really simple to pick up and you can simply have fun like that :D
@roalinn - thanks! That was my hope (the basic but goodness)!
@castitatis - cool, glad you liked it!
Fun little entry, great job. The art is fun, the running animation and the clouds are my personal favorites. I'm just unsure why I wouldn't spam click. Good job anyway !
@hmrpf - yeah, I wanted to add a meter for that to make it more about timing...future things! Thanks for playing!
Nice game with minimal controls. I like it. Graphics is cute, and game is good balanced. I know it only 48h but maybe in next iteration you can add more enemy type :) Thanks for your advise about Godot Area parent which turn off other Area. I must check it out.
@makuck95 - absolutely! I'm glad you liked it! I agree it needed more enemy types for sure. I'm not an artist by nature, so whipping out a bunch of sprites was actually most of the effort for this game. :P
Fun game. I liked the 1 button interface and it has enough variety over the name. Nice variety of enemy looks but would be nice if they had some variety of actions.
Deceptively simple! I ended up running for so long that now I look at surfaces and see things moving xDD
Nice game with simple controls! I really like the theme switch at last stage. Would love to see some more themes in the future!
Surprisingly entertaining game! The music is a banger! I love it! It gives energy to a game where you only press spacebar ^^" The yellow arrows are a smart addition, as I would not have figured out to grab the ropes or jump for cannon balls ^^
I was a bit confused when the game started over after winning
@harmadillo - great name! Also, I agree - enemies have _no_ real actions in this game, and I wish they did. I didn't have time to build that and test it, but likely will be for the mobile release.
@notnasiul - true facts: that also happened to me when I was playtesting. Also I nearly broke a finger just smashing my mouse so hard. It was...hilarious. Let's go with it! :P Thanks for playing!
@grid96 - totally agreed! If my meager art skills had been up to it, I had a bunch of others planned. Now that the jam's over (conceptually), I'll be working with my team to improve it and probably add several more themes. I worked alone on this though and could not manage to create clean/readable enough art for it outside of what I did. Thanks for the kind words!
@wouter52 - I'm glad you liked the arrows! They were a very late add when I realized it was almost impossible to know when to click for the rope, or for that matter for the cannonball. :P It only starts over because my scene-changing system would have crashed at the end if I didn't include a next level, so I just made it go in a loop. Will code it cleaner next time! Thanks for playing!
Pretty charming little infinite runner with cute graphics - great job!! I don't fully know what "Luck" does though - a better explanation would have helped. Still, good game nonetheless :)
cute game,I have a great time, and those upgrades are good design, nice job!, hope the control feelings can be batter,
@drainkid - yeah, that was a hard one to explain! Essentially, there's a chance to get four possible upgrades instead of three, and then there's something else that I don't recall, doh! But thanks!
@olddog - thanks!
Short and funny game. Good for the bus.
I just got into the game, received a reward, passed the second level, and then a black screen at the end. I want more. The music is impressive, great job!
@winie - thanks! And that's one of my hopes for it. :)
@gmaker - that's odd! You had a black screen? I'm not sure why that might have happened. Hm. I'll look into it.
Hehe wow, I was surprised at the detail that was put into this game. The sounds were silly but it felt good to hit enemies and to jump onto the ropes. I like how you added waves that cover your line of sight, it adds an interesting challenge. The smoke coming out of the cannons is a really nice touch. Though, the theme is few and far between, it is still a fun game!
Pretty fun game, especially like the cute graphics and the attack animation ! The hit sound is a bit repetitive, it might benefit a little bit of pitch randomization, Godot a convenient way to do that through code. Other than that, it's a fun entry ! Nicely done.
I think it would be a great mobile game time killer. Insane the amount of content you fit in for the jam! I got married so 100/10
I love your game, it's good, simple fun! Perfect for a jam game π It's a bit too easy, but better that than the opposite. Great work!
