It frees when I click on the book. I'm so sade.
Really cool concept. would love for it to be expanded to maybe be actually random elements corresponding with some creatures. So much potential! I really liked it. good job :)
This game is gorgeous! So many small touches that really sell the atmosphere - the lighting, the short DOF, dragging to turn pages - love it. After some light reading (and a few wrong guesses) I was able to save the town. Thanks for the submission!

I felt like I was playing a PS2 game in a good way. Great job on the atmosphere!
Very atmosphere and super compelling, I only wish there was more of it! Great job!

Hey, incredibly nice decor you've set up here. As a somewhat visually impaired person, I have ... opinions about the font type and size used in the book though...
Like the graphics, very Morrowind. Well done.
Thanks for the comment @pebkac, the font itself is actually @pandapuffsforbreakfast handwriting made into a font as the book is supposed to be a handwritten journal. I do agree it should be bigger to make it easier to read.
Really interesting take on the theme, did not expect something like this to be made but i'm glad it was! The models for the house, character, everything were really nice and i could tell you took your time making them, same with all the details entries of all the different monsters. The soundtrack was also very fitting for an eery scenario, really loved playing this game! Good job!
I skimmed through the story, but was able to connect the culprit! Really nice atmosphere
Took me a bit to get the hang of, but fun!

I could live in the house forever. Loved it.

Really cool, I like the global atmosphere, lots of details
Cool game! Nice athmosphere and sound. The player feel good to control. A little hard to read the book but overall a good game!
@leo-nadeau and @pebkac, I just pushed an update with larger text in the book, so it should be much easier to read (also over 35 pages now) :scream:
A great game!! Looking forward to more of it!
I love the concept
You really polished the athmosphere ! The book was really long to read, but it was really nice overall ^^
Yeah, @pseudonclide it was supposed to be more deducing, but @pandapuffsforbreakfast went a little story crazy when she was making the book. We ran with it ;)
This was a lot of fun. The whodunnit was a nice twist on the theme. I would like to see what other elements you add for different creatures in the future.
The atmosphere was definitely great, and I enjoyed the format, although it was hard to make out everything in the basement because of how dark it was
Would love to see a longer version of this one day!

It looks like I have a bug that is blocking me hard. I have found the book, but I cannot turns any page in it. I like the atmosphere and the idea, but it's hard for me to rate it because of the book issue :(
I tried a lot of shortcuts without success...

Great to have some mystery game in the mix too! Probably the best looking game so far, and it blows my mind that HTML5 game can look like this. Well done!
@salanyel to turn the pages you must use the bottom outside corners ONLY, nowhere else works... I tried hard to make the arrow keys or [A] and [D] but it always went jankey and kinda broke so I took that out :(
but yeah, the bottom left and right corners only. where the "Drag to turn pages" is pointing too.

Could have used some more interactions, but very nice entry overall and clean realization, with some nostalgia vibes ! I enjoyed the atmosphere.
Very interesting take on the theme. The atmosphere is great too. Great job!
Wow really cool story and graphics are amazing for real

You gotta literally turn the pages of the book!! omg help me, I'm dead, this is great. The footsteps on blood was a subtle touch and shows great attention to detail.
Slight concern that may have already been addressed: After providing the correct response: There was some widget overlapping, a note was present, but the dialogue with the guard remained beneath it. I was unable to proceed further.
Moment I stopped breathing: the music has a delay before it plays again. I got scared thinking something was going to get me. lol. I was ready for the jump scare of my life.
Haha, the 'widget' was a smear of blood on the last page... nothing but thematic effect. Im so glad you liked playing :)
No jump scares here... yet :see_no_evil:

Very good
Oh man, I loved the way you guys have created the atmosphere. It is really, really cool. Gives me the old ps2 games' vibes. One thing I noticed though, the music changes in a way when you turn around xD Interesting sensetion on the ears there. Good job nontheless! Solid work there <3
Good job my brother! It was a good experience for me.

Awesome take on the theme! I never would have guessed I'd be playing a murder mystery here!
Great, it’s rare to see an interesting 3D game at a jam.

This was a nice take on the theme. I got really hung up on the inky stuff trying to find reference to it in the book, but the other clue should have given it away for me (that's what I get for not being thorough!). Sometimes the font color blends into the background a bit and makes things difficult to read. Overall, this was a great entry with really cool ambience. Nice work!

There was some well placed red herrings with the descriptions, I went back and forth a few times. Good job!

Great submission! Very good use of the theme! Loved the art style you went with. The ominous music really built tension while searching the place.
Its got Phasmophobia vibes which is cool!
Awesome work!
This is a nice game ! It has that investigation style that i like in phasmophobia ! Really cool idea and the sound design works well ! It took me a lot of time to figure out how to turn the book's pages then i saw the instruction below the book hahaha.

Great sense of atmosphere, made me think of the Echo Night games. The different stepping sounds are a nice touch!
A great idea for a detective-style game
The graphics felt very Elder Scrolls which was nice! I like that the page turning was smooth but it would have been nice to get more controls. I read through the whole thing, and I love the lore. However it seemed like only the last few pages were necessary to connect the dots. I skipped to the end and figured out what the culprit was before I had finished, and then I went back to read the story.
I really like the atmosphere :) What I can tell you though ... TLDR, people kept dying XD Haha Keep up the great work!

A cool game with well-designed atmosphere and nice graphics!
Really cool mystery! Like a lot of other people here, loved the page turning as I felt it added a lot of tension to the atmosphere. Great story and worldbuilding, well done.
I really liked the athmosphere, it was really well done and enjoyable, kudos!
I like the concept of the game for sure, I think it involves a bit too much reading for my likes. I would have liked a system like phantasmaphobia where as you get clues, you can check them in and it automatically rules out monsters it can't have been.
Otherwise, it is a solid base and I can definitely see a good game out of it!

The game looks really good, but that size comes with a cost of a chunky 700mb download ;_;. That said, I think the download was worth it, this was a very cool mystery to solve. There are enough clues that lead me to a reasonable deduction, although it's kind of a shame most of it revolved around reading, it would be nice to have more environmental clues. The book was also a bit harder to spot, maybe you shouldve exaggerated the interactable effect a bit more. Overall, very well done, I had a good time!

It was really short but I liked the vibe.
Oh. My. Llama! How did you guys pull off this effect? It's mind-blowingly awesome! Did you seriously nail this within 72 hours??? If so, you all must have been mainlining coffee and punching the creative clock like there's no tomorrow!
Looks cool, but I was unable to figure out how to flip the pages in the book.

Hey,
well made use of the assets. Looks neat and has a nice vibe. But I am not so much into search and clue Games. But nice entry for the jam!
Assets well used. the game is fun and full of things to discover, a bit heavy 700mb is fairly heavy, the assets do weight a little but is understandable. Atmosphere is fitting. Only some of the pages of the pages were truly necessary to figure out the culprit of the game overall nice work

i really liked the book movement and the outline of the interactable items, the only piont is that it late so much time to download. However i think is a good game and u have take marvelous assets!!.
A cool take on the theme to make it a detective game. I feel like the amount of hints blanaced against the amount of information that you had to forrest through felt a bit unbalanced. I only found 2 clues and there was SO MUCH TEXT. I can also reiterate that the font could have been a bit easier to read. All in all this was super impressive though. Really well done!

I love the vibe, and it has some pretty nice graphics too.
This game looks absolutely stunning, I can't believe you managed to make all this in such a short time. The atmosfeer is really nice and the game has a great feel to it. The book is awesome and you put a lot of effort in the flavor text and the world building. Amazing game overall!

a very nice graphic. fun to play
I like the idea of being a supernatural detective. good job!
Original use of the theme, 3D jam games seem complicated to me, so well done. The atmosphere is really nice. A bit problematic to interact with my touch pad ^^' but it is ok :)

It's a very good idea. I would once again play with random hints and additional pictures in the book!)
Very impressive! The atmosphere of oppression is perfectly set during exploration. I do wish I could run and jump around during exploration, but I guess that would be inappropriate given the mood of the game, haha Nice entry, well done ! (And also, especially impressive that you made it an embedded game...)
I love the concept and the atmosphere

You had family obligations this weekend, but now you don't have them anymore so you were able to play and rate 200 games XD?
lol, I work from home @cpu... so I can do this all day while I 'work' :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: as long as Im there for the meetings
weekends are when obligations occur... not all peeps got chill programmer jobs like me. (plus there are 2 of us working from home)
Aaaand, ratings given is not games played, if you rate all 5* you would get 5 ratings given... so I have not played 200 games... yet :speak_no_evil: I do tend to rate highly, cause everyone does so good (I really liked your game too) and game jams are hard.
The story was an interesting read. I liked that it had the extra entries not directly needed for identifying the monsters.
I enjoy this concept. I hate reading though, so I kept losing and the monsters would keep killing people for months because of me.

Very interesting story, but there was too much text for my taste. I really liked the environmental story telling. I could guess the monster type just from that.

Great atmosphere and the implementation of turning the pages was neat! It was quite a lot to read though, maybe a bit too much.

Incredible mood, although it seemed very short for me. I would have liked it to have more scenarios or the same one with different clues depending on who the murderer was.

2024-04-16 22:59
Excellent Idea, and the graphics / vibe are perfect. Really wish there was a bit more of a summoning aspect tho; and would have liked to have seen more clues we needed to put together rather than essentially just reading the book through and noticing the claw marks

The look of your game is interesting. The idea of discovering the correct creature is also good. Although I wasn't able to progress much, I located some things, but I wasn't able to interact with some of them, such as the book.
But anyway, overall it looks like a good job!

It was fun. Didn't had time to read the whole book but figured out the demon just by the visual clues (that is something possitive!)

Tremendous! Its a small thing, but excellent work on the book. Very clean, short design. Genuinely enjoyed this.
Great game, love the murder mystery aspect of it and how you played with the theme. Can see how it easily can be expanded and would love to play more.

Woah the atmosphere! What a nice concept and idea. The game told me that they all died for month..oops xD funny idea! Great work :smiley_cat: :sparkles:
Awesome game! I got the shade stalker. Well done
Super nice atmosphere. Somehow that slight tremble in the music and something that could have been breathing inbetween made me afraid of a jump scare after reading the book. I struggeled a bit with the page turning, but everything else was very intuitive. Story kept me reading everything. Would definitly be back for more of this! Great job :)
Edit- commented on the wrong entry haha! will update later
Great work on this, the composition of the assets really gave me morrowind vibes, nice. Haunting music fits the theme well. Simple but great game :)

Loved it! :) Fits the theme
I like the overall atmosphere however I would like to have a more interaction in there. But very good concept and gameplay created in the given timeframe. As mentioned in previous comments, I like the Morrowind vibes :)
Short indeed! ^^ But well made with great atmosphere. And writing a book is no small task during a jam, so congrats.
Lovely mood and atmosphere but I didn't once guess the right creature! :D still had fun though. nice entry!
