It's atmospheric and addictive. I love this so much. It reminds me of "in 90 days around the world". There is not much I can criticize, though. I will have to play it again in order to play throzgh. The camp is a nice idea. Sounds are fiting and music is there, when needed. I am happy that I read your post in the blog. I would have never found this hidden gem if not for your post!

I cant start the game. It starts with opening logo but then the game crash :/ i dont know where is the problem. Tried it couple of times

oller125 2023-10-03 20:41

Loved the atmosphere of the game. I was surprised how invested I was after a couple of days.

teddyreid 2023-10-04 06:57

@janinna21 You are not the first person to report this. We are looking for repro, but can't find it. I know it sounds insane, but a few people have been able to get it working just by redownloading it from Itch and re-running it.

simon-rahnasto 2023-10-04 16:28

This was a fantastic entry and I had a blast! The sound and music were top-notch, setting a cozy vibe that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm a sucker for choose-your-own-adventure games, and your take on it was fantastic. Plus, the 'limited space' theme was cleverly integrated.

One thing that really got me was the freedom to choose my path without feeling trapped in a storyline. Often when I play "choose your own adventure", I feel like I do not actually have a choice and it is the developers adventure. I may not have navigated it all perfectly (lets just say my character had a knack for finding trouble and accumulating wine), but it definitely added to the fun. And yes, any game where I can give a cat some love instantly wins my heart!

In short, your game was a hit in my book. Great tunes, enjoyable gameplay and great writing!

teddyreid 2023-10-04 16:35

@simon-rahnasto thank you so much! <3

hexyvexy 2023-10-04 16:39

@simon-rahnasto Thanks for the kind words! There was a conscious effort to try and keep the writing open-ended and have it react to what you have and do-if you're cursed or hurt your leg, if you have a sword etc.

aruspice 2023-10-04 21:43

I loved the writing in this game, coupled with the rain sounds made for a very immersive experience.

gamester1128 2023-10-04 21:49

I liked it. The bandits becoming cautious because I was posing neutral was funny!

conradoclark 2023-10-04 21:51

Such a cool game. I love its replayability, more so because you learn what certain events require and start planning ahead to find them on your next playthrough.

First, I died of thirst, then I beat the game on the second playthrough. I felt that the game had a nice sense of non-linearity, and the worldbuilding was pretty interesting, with the different amulets and items, not to mention the thing with the rain and your inability to drink from it. Great mood.

The theme really fits (no pun intended) because inventory management is essential for survival.

Good job, fun game!

The writing and visuals were great, the gameplay too. I enjoyed it a lot! Great entry (っ˘з(˘⌣˘ )

@janinna21 Hi! If you're still interested in trying our game we think we have managed to fix the crash by switching to Godot's Forward+ rendering mode.

jazzer008 2023-10-05 16:54

I'm longing to have my inventory and ground UI permanently fixed somewhere. I think for such an important part of the game it deserves to find a constant space to exist in. This would also save having to remind the player to check their inventory/ground after every event.

teddyreid 2023-10-05 17:54

@jazzer008 We experimented with a sidebar for a while that an inventory could have sat on be we ultimately felt like it damaged the "ambience" of the experience, so we scrapped it in favour of minimalism. If we had more time I would have liked to replace the reminder screen with a custom version of the inventory with a "confirm" button on it or something, but alas, time.

Thanks for playing!

eeperdeheap 2023-10-09 20:10

Really nice game. The writing is good! The small inventory is really limiting you, also because you have really no idea what you need. But I could have used some more water :) Good job.

teddyreid 2023-10-09 20:55

@eeperdeheap Thanks for playing!

ciaranw 2023-10-10 00:11

Really great game, I played through it twice and found it very replayable (seems there is enough randomness that each playthrough was different). I *think* I completed it the second time, but the screen just went black with rain, so maybe that was a bug.

On my first playthrough, I didn't find any waterskins anywhere, so just died without a chance - maybe that's just life though (although often I found foraging gave me what I needed, not sure if that's just luck or you have coded the odds in the players favour!)

I found the stories to be really well written, and the branching and feedback was very nice. Quite a relaxing couple of playthroughs, and the audio and visuals really helped with that! Inventory management was nice, although I found I think the UI could have done with a bit more polish, and maybe some more QoL features like being able to drag an item from the floor into the inventory to replace an existing item, rather than dragging something out first.

Overally I really enjoyed this one, glad I stumbled upon it and got the chance to play - fantastic entry!

items-on 2023-10-10 03:45

Awesome entry! Definitely worth a second playthrough

minibobbo 2023-10-10 03:47

Nicely done! I lost all my health to a rolling wedge of cheese (Worth it!) and a mysterious figure that I kept waving to. After turning down a fight I surely would have lost over an amulet I... fell on a rock. It was so anticlimactic but fit the feel of the whole thing very well.

I loved the music and the mood you achieved. The story was light and the right amount of detail. I liked how the conversation with the Abbot told you everything you needed to know to complete the journey.

My only feedback was I didn't realize until much too late that the items on the ground were also on the inventory screen. I was looking for them on the main screen and when I tried to click on what I thought was my wineskin in the dark I accidentally advanced the game and left some stuff behind. Oh well, live and learn.

hexyvexy 2023-10-10 09:13

@ciaranw Thanks for the feedback- we did discuss weighting the outcomes both for foraging and events but it fell out of scope. The behind-the-scenes tag system was going to have a "thirsty", "hungry", "hurt", "depressed" addition. A shame you got what sounds like a bugged death screen on your second one-the rain stops when you win. The item-swapping is absolutely being added to our toolbox, this is our first inventory system so we want to build on it.

hexyvexy 2023-10-10 09:13

@items-on Thanks!

hexyvexy 2023-10-10 09:15

@minibobbo Yeah, we wanted to have a more direct tutorialisation of the "ground" concept. Things for V2 :)

teddyreid 2023-10-10 09:15

@ciaranw That's definitely a bug! Thanks for the report - and for playing!

thomas-higgins 2023-10-10 11:50

Fun little game, average long walk in the rain vibes, 10/10 would get beaten up by woman for saying hello again

gizz1 2023-10-11 17:24

Cool concept, I love it

kanity 2023-10-12 00:24

That is such a calm and relaxing experience~ I loved the graphics with huge pixels and the parchment UI, though I am not sure if these two artstyles work well together. I enjoyed little encounters I had and the choices I got to make. The mechanic you added, with inventory and camp and all the actions we can do there - is great. However, I quickly ran out of water and it wasn't that easy to replenish, came down mostly to luck. And so my journey ended. Thank you for a nice relaxing game, I chose the perfect one to play before going to sleep x)

You don't see a lot of narrative games in jams because they're hard to pull off. But you PULLED. IT. OFF.

Super nostalgic. Lots of fun. great replayability.
