Funny game! Nice Tutorial, but a bit long, i skipped over it first but had to go back. Great look in game
Really cute game !
Really nice game. Great kitten sounds, and engaging gameplay. Not much to criticise to be honest! The first level probably went on for a bit too long and I would have liked to be able to press shift again to cancel using the power up (but tbf I should just not press the wrong button). Apart from that, it does what it sets out to do brilliantly.
Very high quality game. I really like the idea - the gameplay is addictive. Everything is very simple, but at the same time interesting! The tutorial is very cool :) When I use my superpower on many, many cats, the sound is probably too loud, but you get used to it easily. Great job!
Really nice game you made here. Mabey do a little each level instead of everything in the first (tutorrial)
Nice game, my cat kept looking at me while i was playing this.
@dfyzet yeah, that super-power cat noise is just too much. lol.
The tutorial was such a last second thought, but I think spacing it out and introducing each element as they arrive would be better.
Right now, I'm working on extending the gameplay systems without changing the complexity. As it stands, its pretty unplayable past about level 10-12.
Cool! Took a bit to figure out that given actions would reset and need to recycle back. but that is part of the challenge! Nice graphics, music and I had a blast. Good job.
Really nice job, had a lot of fun playing this game. The power up is satisfying to use, even though the sound is very loud if you get too many. Spent a lot of time figuring out which cats needed what.
I think I met my adorable quota for LD51. This is such a nice and polished game. Clear instructions, smooth controls, really nice feedback though animation and sounds. The gold cat/superpower adds a lot to the fun.
It is super fun!!!!
Really nice game, amazing tutorial and really addictive :D I Managed to get up to level 15 :) score.PNG
@stefan-laimer My daughter, who did the tutorial voice-over, is super excited that you liked it!
Fantastic game, but it seems like you already know that from all the other comments :) The only useful input I could give would be to vary the meows some as when you use the shift ability it gets loud. Ultimately you did a great job and your daughter did amazing on the credits!
(also thank for you having commented and played my game <3)
Someone needs to get your daughter a podcast or something. She sounded very enthusiastic and really got me excited to play this game.
As others have mentioned, the gameplay is smooth and the graphics are really cute...phenomenal work. I agree with @madeofst that the first level felt a bit slow, (even taking into account getting used to the controls)but that's just my preference. In the future it could be fun to make a dog version of this.
Hats off to you for creating a polished game and giving your kid a chance to do something new.
Great art, and tutorial.
Really cute game and charming tutorial. I liked how the art style of the different cats lets players know what the cats need. The golden cats was a nice touch as well.
Thank you @glove and @alec ! Your comments made my daughter’s morning great!
Yeah, that super power sound is just too much. Lol.
Can’t change it post compo, but will fix it for any future versions.
love the art, its absolutely amazing! The tutorial is a nice addition since it lets you learn the game super easily and quickly. really good job !!!
Best Tutorial Ever. Period.
On a side note, the game is also really fun, especially with the sounds and the occasional golden cat! Nice job!
@lazzor @zyger Thank you so much for the kind words.
I has so many weird UI ideas before I realized I could just differentiate the individual cats by design.
First, excellent job on the tutorial. I see you already answered that it was your daughter, great idea to use her for the voice over it was unique and kept me going through the tutorial when I'd usually just skip through one. I think if you could control the item your were giving to the cats using the keyboard it would make the game much more user friendly. Mousing over to select the item and then back wasn't difficult but also wasn't my favorite thing to do. Overall a nice entry!
Good idea! The game is quite slow during the first levels though so not very interesting but It becomes way more fun when the number of spawned kittens grow. The music is good but the loop is a bit short, it becomes quickly anooying.
Overall fun to play, especially when getting to higher levels.
I got 10140. I have no idea if this is a good score, but at that point I was just struggling to keep track of what item I had because I wasn't clever enough to watch the little bubble by my cursor. ^^;
This game was super cute, the sound effects were great, the tutorial was engaging.
In terms of room for improvement, I think some sound balancing between the tutorial and game would be nice and the ability to back up in the tutorial would be nice because I ended up skipping one spot too fast completely by accident and couldn't go back. ;-; I went into the game nervous, but the slow first level helped calm me down.
Very very well done. Super adorable, a fun take on an old school game style and I enjoyed myself greatly. Thank you. =)
Okay, this is adorable
Pros:
- The VA is brilliant! - Cool cats designs - Cute graphics - You get a lot of kittens in later stages - The mechanics are easy to grasp around
Cons:
- Wish it was a bit more demanding, but I understand the scope for this game as a kids' playground
A really nice entry. Good job!
I admit I feel lied to : it neither had the mechanical depth of Monster Hunter nor the deep world building of Elden Ring... But it had cats ! Tons of cats ! And that's awesome too ! :smiley_cat: Anyway, a fun little game, I liked it.
Too be honest I'm still a little bit disapointed that the tutorial isn't in Comic sans MS
@furano That advertisement specifically stated this game offers none of those features! Glad you had fun!
Hey that was really cute! I felt like the game was lacking in depth personally, but the presentation was very nice!
Very nice! Such cute and lovely variation of the well known mechanics. My only suggestion will be to make game a bit more fast paced at the early stages. As it picks up the steam a bit slow in the beginning, in my opinion.
@lesinvisible Totally agree on the early slowness. Been musing on how to make that transition better.
the tutorial got me xD I couldn't get the correct cats at first, cute little arcade game and you can push it even more :P
Very fun! My only real criticisms are the early stages are a little too long and then it very suddenly gets difficult.
Great tutorial! The art was very nice and cute and it's a simple concept that works very well. I like how the cats have physics for each one! I lasted a fair while and enjoyed myself! I'd also love to see this as a match 3 game btw!
@sarah-alexa Thank for playing! Yeah, that ramp in challenge is weird and I've spent a lot of time musing about where and how to extend the gameplay without damaging the clean design. I've not considered a match three, but it might be a ton of fun, maybe a set of paired gameplay experiences in one package.
I'd never tried a game with so casual a design before and I REALLY liked making it, so I will seriously consider trying a match 3, and maybe bash up a prototype or two.
Thanks!
Oh it's so cute - especially the tutorial. I got to level 8, but then I started panicking and click-spammed instead of figuring out what cat needs which thing. Good thing you added something against that, causing to spawn more kitties. Endless kitties!
@aaron-smith Honestly on first look I thought it was a match 3! I think both can be great! Lots of potential for powerups in that form too!
Tbh making casual games feels like a lot of fun! I think that's why I'm really starting to like the jam format, it forces you to kind of lean towards making a short and more casual game and it's such a good way to learn just how fun a small amount of core mechanics built around a few minutes can be! This game was great so I'm sure your next project will be great!!
My high score: 22310 (level 13)
OMG I love the voiced tutorial, perfect match with the theme of the game! The cat noises were good, except when I used a power and it triggered a dozen at once, then it got a bit much ^_^.
At the beginning, I would have really liked a way to speed things along, I spent a while just staring at an empty board. Once the game got moving, it was pretty great, though!
Really cute game. I love the tutorial :D
Cute game! I can't stop! It's cool! :)
@jimbly @owca @ksimaster thanks for playing! I’m glad you enjoyed it.
What's not to like about a game about kittens?? :cat: The intro was so lovely, the "voice actor" did such a good job :relaxed: For the game itself I wish it wouldn't cycle through the different tools by click and instead just have one button for each item to quickly use the right one. But otherwise the game play was very fun :star:
Good game, original, easy to understand and fun. Some thoughts: - I loved the tutorial on the kid's voice - It's confusing why the actions change instead of being always in the same order
@finntastico @gonzalol thanks for playing, we are so glad you enjoyed it.
As for why the items cycle randomly…as i thought about the design, just having easy access to all abilities does not create any choice for the player. It actively reduces gameplay. At that point its just a speed matching game.
With the abilities cycling randomly, the player has to 1- watch carefully or miss what they are after, and 2 - make a choice between cycling the items to get what they want at the expense of faster dropping cats. It becomes a gameplay decision point each cycle.
Lol, at least that was the theory. I thought a lot about how to provide the items, i changed it a few times.
What are your thoughts on how it could be implemented? I work entirely solo so far, so i rarely get to hear input from others on this sort of thing.
Very nice little game! wont give my usual spiel as you already have tons of reviews, but this is great! nice graphics really fun game, and a really chill mood! really like this one, good job!
cute awesome game :3 visual reminde me one board game:"Kitty Paw" ^^
@jamersjam thank you so much for playing, I hope it was fun.
@bhaa-su omg, i’d never heard of that! Had to get it for my daughter. She’ll love it! Thanks for the recommendation!
Really fun and cute game! Loved the voice acting. I think the tempo was just right, at first I didn't quite understand, then I got the hang of it, then it sped up and finally it got really hard. Good job! :D
@maxkyckling Thanks for playing! The game has a brutal ramp up right now around levels 8-10. I’m working now on rethinking the progression and scaling to try to make the gameplay a bit richer.
Thanks for the comment on the voice acting. She did all the cat meows as well and is so excited to hear people liked it!
Absolute adorable little puzzle game.
10/10 tutorial. Otherwise not sure if there is anything I can add beside what was already said. Start was a little bit slow, but at least it let me get used to seeing different faces and figuring out what do they need. But once it hit certain point, then it was really hectic, and fun. Great entry, amazing graphics and I bet you had a lot of fun developing this!
@defilerzero @dzejpi thanks for playing and I really glad you enjoyed it.
You are correct, this was a blast to build! I had a lot more fun with this one than I did in previous jams. Getting my daughter to see the process and watch her eyes light up when she saw the results was great!
OMG I LOVE the audio instructions haha SOOOO CUTE!! Also I love how kitties meow and look :3 all 5 stars for the cats theme haha I also have a game with cats thats is my first game ever :hearts: I would be very happy if you would rate it
This game is amazing, but would be great if you add some symbol to indicate how to interact with the cats, because I forgot and had to remember all the time. But after that everything was great.
Pretty cute! The only thing that I found jarring was the apparent randomness of the items. I found myself cycling through wildly in a way that didn't feel like it added to the experience.
The tutorial was great :)
Aww, the kitties are so cute! I really like this game idea, but I think making each item and cat type a different color would help a lot. So many of the items and cats were gray that it made it difficult to find what to do next easily.
@shimmerscale thanks for the feedback. I’m looking into how and why to differentiate each element and it can definitely be improved
This is essentially tetris with physics, really cool.
Loved the graphics and sound, the entire presentation was amazing. Only issue I had was with selecting the object to use. Kept having to look off the side to make sure I wasn't cycling past what I needed, and had the most fun when I was just able to keep clicking instead of having to choose something else.
Best tutorial ever! Super charming game, full of kitties? What's not to love. All I missed was it was easy to click off the lose screen, if there was any, so I didn't get to see my final score. It would be nice to have the selected item at the bottom too, so you could see them as you look at the cats falling.
But meow thinks this is a purrfect game to paws the time! Ok, I'm done.
Interesting game. It was surprisingly hard to play. It starts off a bit too easy nonetheless and takes a very long time to get interesting, and is much more fun with lots of cats to choose from. A game like this would work best when you have a lot of cats to click on so you could rather match the current tool to the right cat rather than cycling tools, which makes for slower gameplay and less fun (in my opinion!). Art is cute, although it wasn't immediately obvious which cat was which type, except for the messy cat - he's the best :D Overall good amount of polish for a compo entry. I can definitely see how some streamlining of gameplay and quality of life improvements could make this really fun and addicting.
Dawwww that tutorial ^_^ Really fun and unique puzzle game! Great pixel art and the music was good too! Awesome work on this! :D
that hand drawn tutorial is sooo cute!everything about this game is soooo cute!(rate back plz!) sda.JPG
Meeeaaaww! lovely game, better tutorial!! Loved it!
Really cute entry :) The graphics and audio are really well done, the physics made the gameplay a lot more interesting as well.
Personally I felt the difficulty curve to be a bit sharp, it starts off really easy and then immediately ramps up in difficulty and the random cycling of tools detracted from the experience imo. There was multiple occasions where I'd need one or two specific tools and I'd have to cycle through the tools 5 or 6 times to get the ones I needed which made it feel like when I lost it wasn't entirely my fault for misplaying but rather the RNG working against me.
@ex3d0 thanks for playing!
I truly appreciate the feedback. Item selection and pacing are the two most common comments on the design (other than the decidedly hilarious sound bug).
I’m already working on a version with many changes including an Open item selection feature where you simply swap items with key presses and a completely revamped kitty delivery so the curve is both less boring to start and far more gradual.
It’s been a wild ride experimenting with how to alter the difficulty and pacing. Strange things have a really big impact on the pace.
