LD50 — Delay the inevitable

I Can Fly by pndaa 2022-04-15T19:27:53Z

Very fun! An easy to grasp concept, a funny theme and visually very nice on the eyes! My only complaints really are that I think the hitboxes of the spikes could be a little smaller and some of the levels later on a little shorter but other than that, I had a great time! I'd love to see more of this kind of game!

Heat Production by ludevum 2022-04-15T20:12:09Z

This is a really good idea. I like the grabbing items from wherever as it meant walking around wasn't as punishing and using resources to maintain heat is a really cool use for a game like this. My main issues from it came from finding it a bit difficult. It took some experimenting to figure out some of the mechanics and it could do with a little more feedback to help the player know what's going on.

I love that you can build walls, automate things and that resource management, trees aside isn't at all punishing. It really allows you to just focus on the task at hand and it feels nice improving with each go at it. I'd love to see where this goes if you keep going with it. Some audio, heat being radius based and using things like walls to insulate the player better would be great to see!

As it is, I love the visual style, the controls don't feel awkward, being able to zoom in or out is a great touch and it's using a theme which is very fun. Well done making this!

Floody Hell by OursBleu 2022-04-12T15:53:46Z

I really enjoyed this. As a shooter it felt immediately familiar. Reusing the same map with objects, survivors, ghosts and walls/stairs being moved about was a great touch!

Enemy red zones were sometimes too small, the ghosts clipped through walls and floors too which was only an issue when their hit spots became unhittable.

Great theme with a nice visual style. The moment to moment was very enjoyable. Nice job!

Fritten Madness Extreme - Winter Edition by FredR121 2022-04-15T20:18:56Z

I love the theme! Keeping fuel to keep moving, avoiding evil snowmen as speed bumps was fun and I really liked how they fell apart. The only issue is I spent too many goes deliberately hitting them because it was so satisfying! I would love to see some ramps to jump off and a wider stage to mess about with a little like a snowboarding game but this was a great twist on a runner game!

Great replay value, looks very nice and I love the inclusion of a cut scene at the end! Really well done!

Garden War by Firesplash Entertainment 2022-04-15T19:03:16Z

A little difficult to get going in but I found it hard to put down. The free form tower defence gameplay was very fun. Managing resources, drones and taking out customers to preserve your stock is very fun! A little difficulty balancing if you keep working on it would be great and maybe highlighting the hot dog stand and enemy spawns as they weren't immediately clear to me but otherwise, great job and I'll probably be back for more! Great jam game!

Salvos by magus77 2022-04-15T18:28:22Z

I love the art for this. It looks great and fits the theme really well. The music is very chill too and that fishing mechanic was very familiar to me, absolutely loved that.

My criticism is really just that the map was too big. It took me a while to figure things out and it made managing things take a little too long. The same with finding items. I think if it was much smaller, the gameplay would be a bit easier to figure out and feel more frantic.

Other than that, I don't have a whole lot to criticise! You have a farming system, fishing, digging, exploration and sleep mechanics as well as a few others. This was really well done and I would love to see this worked on more to see where it could go. I think this has great potential!!

DLAY's Buffet by BinaryPrinciple 2022-04-15T18:41:47Z

This was great! I love the music, it's intense and give the game a great atmosphere. Visually, everything is easy to see and work out, I liked the style too. The gameplay loop was very fun, this is something I feel would do well turned into a full level based game. It feels frantic yet relaxing to play at the same time. A very fun gameplay loop that makes for fun repeated gameplay.

Working the stages into the final boss fight was a nice touch, it felt like it rewards playing better beforehand but not punishing if you struggled.

Overall, great job on this. I'd love to see more!

Good Boy eats the treat. by RobbzenOne 2022-04-15T20:29:58Z

I really like this! I love the cute graphics and seeing what the dog is thinking as it chases you. There's enough to keep it fun, it being randomised gives some nice replay value and the music has that classic comfy impending doom feeling (weird to describe!).

Controls felt great, intuitive and the obstacles really fit the theme. Feels polished and cosy. Really well done, I would like to see you do more on this!

Super Mowser Bros by Guilloteam 2022-04-15T16:36:20Z

I really like this! The visual style is great and very polished, the music is nice and punchy and uplifting. I love the idea of base building to stop the hero following too! My only complaint really is the game is a bit too fast and having to click on and then drag into each area was a little finicky with a touchpad. I really like the whole Mario world course map thing being turned into strategy though!

This feels like something that would suit touch screens really well and a great little game to try when you have a few mins. Great work with this!!

Giraffe o'Clock by Kepsert 2022-04-15T17:53:50Z

I really liked this. The music was nice and looped well, the art was great and consistent and I really liked the multiple mechanics being gradually introduced as it went on. I think the dialogue went on too long every level but it was fun, I liked the characters and it did break up the levels well!

This feels like it could turn into a full thing! Well done with this!

The moss accident by Draconic Rabbit 2022-04-15T20:24:45Z

This was a nice little game! I really like how the moss grows and spreads independently so you feel the panic of keeping up with it overall and trying not to miss a spot. It feels almost like you could fight the moss back but it increases just enough that it will eventually win which I think keeps the pressure on nicely. As someone who's grass has been invaded, killed and taken over by moss this year, it let me get personal and get some revenge!

I would love to see how this would feel with some powerups and some levels in gardens and parks.

Well done with making this!

Crime Time by bodCodes 2022-04-12T14:44:33Z

I really like the overall theme, steal till you go down! I love seeing the paths enemies will take and being able to pause time. Adds strategy to the panic.

I feel medium difficulty is a bit tough and hard to be impossible but easy felt like a great balance and scales well. Very good entry!

Snailatouille by PeytonBrown 2022-04-12T15:20:00Z

I really like the idea of this and the visual style is nice. The posters are fun and the bell easter egg got a laugh out of me. Gameplay wise, I had no idea what to do for ages even after seeing and making orders. I think i would rather a box or mat to place items on as the sweet spot isn't visible.

Controls seem good, cooking is great! The snail I would maybe make follow the path the player takes as it got in the way of the desk a lot.

I would like to see more on this! It has a nice charm! Nicely done!

Penguin Snoir by Sarah Alexa 2022-04-12T14:20:12Z

@minusc That is by design as with how simple it is, I wanted to let people play for a few mins to experience the full thing. It gets unfair and the enemy spawns are too much so but Ill definitely fix if I work on this after the jam and make it much more fair! Thank you for playing! <3

@krstinamay Thank you so much! I might work on this more and make everything better. Glad you realised the clocks ans xp gems are good haha. I'll have to make that clearer! <3

Penguin Snoir by Sarah Alexa 2022-04-13T16:58:14Z

@doomshmuck Honestly the click controls are there only as they mimic touch controls which I added so I could work on the game on my phone. I feel they're about serviceable enough but they're a quick and really not great implementation tbh. It's something I want to get a bit more practice with to get the implementation down. The health bar on enemies I flip flopped on. Thank you for playing and for the feedback!!

@godsboss That's one thing I really wish I'd had more time to fix. It's not fair at all as I sadly didn't get the time to prevent it. Thank you for playing though!!

@geojax Thank you! Also thank you for the great feedback! I agree with all of that and wondered how long until someone found the don't move method haha. The way the controls work is you move about and the character targets and shoots at enemies automatically at set intervals so all you have to work on is positioning yourself. It is hindered a bit by the enemies just spawning on the player or in your face however. I'll have to try working on it more outside of the jam soon! Looking forward to at the very least seeing how it is when polished.

@oc1d Thank you so much!! It looks like you managed to last a good while too! I'm just glad I was very conscious not to allow scope creep!

Penguin Snoir by Sarah Alexa 2022-04-15T18:32:35Z

@kepsert Thank you so much! I'm glad it gave off the right vibes! I definitely would have added some unlockable attacks and mechanics had I the time to do so! If I had time, I was going to have level ups provide either options for an unlockable auto attack or add something to the player. Also I'm glad I spent the extra time on the white border now thank you!

I definitely like your suggestion on the varying pitch. It's something I could have done and I think it would take only a minute to implement. I had to quieten it a fair bit but I didn't even think of varying it a little. Thank you! Here's hoping I can get to 20 ratings haha.

Penguin Snoir by Sarah Alexa 2022-04-15T19:09:39Z

@arthurds Thank you! If I work on it more post jam, those are all things I'm considering. Currently your attacks and health increase with leveling up but not a whole lot else since I had to wrap things up really fast. The enemy spawn system is what I'm least happy with I would say, I didn't get a chance to them spawning on the player so it's a bit unfair.

Thank you for your feedback! Lots of very useful and constructive things in there!

@kepsert Thank you very much! Here's hoping! The last time I entered a jam was like 10-ish years ago which feels crazy. So old that updating the Unity project breaks it and the WebGl player is too old to run in a browser these days! I'll have to try and do more game jams as it really sparks off making learning fun!

Caution! Sniper! by Dawiderter 2022-04-05T02:45:48Z

I had issues with it crashing every time I talked to someone but other than that, I really like it! Visually, it's very nice, the music is fun while having pressure and punching stuff feels great! I smacked all the faces, and flowers and lampposts!

Pretty cool having world generation too so your running about is always frantic! This would be a pretty cool level based game if you wanted to do more on it after the jam!

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Endless Loop by pschichtel 2022-10-06T20:12:16Z

This was great! It took me a minute to understand what did what but once it clicked this was such a good little puzzle game. Keys, buttons and finding items was all very rewarding! I would maybe say you could do with a little on screen prompt to say what an item does and how to active it such as the jump boots but I figured that out by accident and from there it was smooth sailing.

The jump and the projectile switches were my favourite bits of the game! Those visuals are really nice too. Great use of the isometric style in a way that feels smooth and fluid! Great job with this!

Power Surge 51 by vidarn 2022-10-03T20:30:42Z

Very fun! I like the visual style and using the 10 seconds for resource bursts was a pretty fun take on things. Feels like RTS resource management as a puzzle game!

It took me a bit to figure out just how things work but once I did things went pretty smooth! The items you get later definitely help a lot and once you start to work things out and realise just how important the residential buildings are for everything, it's all very manageable. Adding platforms was a nice touch too, lets you really get things moving once you figure out the start.

Glad I managed to finish this one!

Catreams by firellon 2022-10-04T19:51:25Z

Really nice art here. Has a nice feel and I love how cosy the cat looks! I did find it a little difficult to figure out what did what but as a whole it was a very nice and chill experience. Very well done!

The Aspiring Postman by petmonkey 2022-10-04T20:15:59Z

I love the idea and the visual style is nice but I did have a few issues with controls, I struggled with finding where stuff was to be delivered and when trying to land I kept flying through and under the floor. I'd love to see this with a flatter world that loops around on itself with waypoints!

I think a pigeon flying about is great though and it's nice flying about just to sight see! The colour palette was great and flying feels decent once you get used to it. A lot done here in a short time!

Milkman by themorfeus 2022-10-03T20:53:25Z

Quite a fun idea! Bit of a hectic time with customers doing their customer thing and stealing stuff off the shelves! Amused me a bit when a customer came up wanting a certain kind of milk and just picked it up off the shelf and completed the task for me.

One thing I would love to see apart from maybe a few walls for the shop is for throwing milk at customers not asking anything to ragdoll them for a second. I want to teach those customers a lesson!

Nicely done! I think my only real issue was playing it made me feel a bit sick so I don't if that's a camera thing or a me thing. Either way, I wouldn't mind seeing this developed a bit further to see what you come up with!

Candy Eden by tharky 2022-10-06T18:59:48Z

I had trouble figuring out what was going on as well but the art was great, the music was cheerful and the game had a great vibe! Feels very well done!

Negative-G by EX3D0 2022-10-03T21:12:04Z

Very short as others have said but definitely on the short and sweet side! Enough time to get the concept across and leaves you wanting more which is always a good thing. The visual style was nice and the whole thing had a slight VVVVVV feel but with a more relaxed and structured feel to it.

The gravity switching feels good and the level layout works really well with the 10 second timer. You should definitely make more levels after the jam ends! An overall great feel to it. Very fun!

The First Fire by scottgoldsmith 2022-10-06T16:36:40Z

I wasn't expecting to see a PICO-8 game! Nicely done! I love the concept and the game is nice and simple. A little harsh at first but once you get the hang of it, quite manageable! I love how the fire actually changes your range of vision depending on how much fuel it has at night. A very nice touch!

The First Fire by scottgoldsmith 2022-10-06T17:51:52Z

@scottgoldsmith I had a similar thing with my game in that there was a little nice to have feature that I think one person called out but beforehand I'd thought had gone unnoticed! I love small touches like that!

Happy to as well! I've peeked my head in at PICO-8 but I've yet to make anything in it. I think once I'm more comfortable with traditional game dev I'll be on it as a fun side thing! Such a cool platform!

ZombieGrade by Jejkobb 2022-10-06T16:14:13Z

I enjoyed this. I did have a few issues with the cursor and ability to aim disappearing after playing a while and finding it a little tough to line up my shot but this was fun. I enjoy the 10 seconds basically being an XP bar, there was a decent variety of upgrades and though it gets easy to survive indefinitely, it's a very relaxing time. I like how the characters look and feel like I need them to have soft ragdolls! The music is nice and chill too, perfect for zombie murder!

I managed to survive so long I reached the edge of the world and then I Jumped off because I couldn't aim but that was a good ending point tbh. I feel like if you keep at this, you could have a really fun casual rogue like or level based game going here.

Panic at the Graveyard by Steven Garberg 2022-10-06T16:29:18Z

Nice art style, audio is nice and spooky too! Keeps things nice and simple which is good.

A few criticisms I have are the knockback is good feedback but it could use a bit of a cooldown as if there are enemies at opposite sides then you can get bounced around a lot meaning a lot more damage is taken. I love the theme of sitting in a graveyard but I would love if gravestones had hitboxes to give the player something to kite enemies around to add some strategy when it gets to the later stage of the game.

Other than that great job! I like how you give the player crosshair options, not something you generally see in jams! It was nice seeing enemy variety and the shooting felt like it worked well! I managed around 400ish seconds and it was a fun few mins!

Glitch Quest by velvetlobster 2022-10-06T18:27:46Z

This was a weird little game! I don't really know if I managed to break anything but I had fun poking about and seeing what was what. The art on the cow game was really nice and it looked like everyone's pics was available for everyone else which is such a nice touch. I was surprised how on point the OS looked too! Feels like you did a lot here!

Curse Mountain by rpgfaker 2022-10-06T21:31:09Z

I like the idea, climbing works well and that background art is so good! I think I would like to see some checkpoints and one way floors though as I feel like there is a bit of waiting and falling or dying does feel harsh having to back to the very beginning.

Other than that good job with this! The world being hostile towards your smaller character at night was a nice tough and again, that climbing felt great. It feels like a lot of effort went into that level design.

Night At The Orphanarium by michaelaranda 2022-10-06T18:51:00Z

This was great! The artist did such a great job on the models here! The gameplay was simple but it worked great and I really enjoyed the day/night modes! One night it wouldn't let me attack for some reason but the vampires were defeated by the sun!

The game feels polished, visual and audio feedback is good and the game manages to stay manageable and ends at a good point. Very well done! It feels like this team has worked together before!

9 To 5 by AlphaBetaSoup 2022-10-06T19:18:54Z

It took a bit of getting used to how the combat worked at first but I loved this. At first I thought it was one card per enemy per turn but then once I figured out that isn't the case it really opened up! I think I'd love if you clicked on the enemy you wanted to target and had an indicator for that and then just clicked cards to use them but that's a small thing.

The dialogue was fun and though I found I only really needed attack cards once I figured things out, I had a lot of fun smashing corporate faces with my work! With some Pokemon style movement and multiple floors you could have a fun game of just going through businesses and smashing through the corporate ladder!

Very good take on a deck building game. No tediousness or over complicating things, just quick fun gameplay.

Shattering Star by Emty 2022-10-06T18:15:56Z

This was great! I had a lot of fun thinking about how you may have made it while I was playing and it was a great use of the theme. I would have loved to have been able to choose which stage I was jumping to and I wish the last room at the end had that door to the right open to have a little back and forth with battery management for the keycard and stuff but tbh that's not really an issue, that's me just wanting more which is a great thing.

I really liked the theme jumping between before, during and after disaster too and the environment all fit together nicely!

I played the jam version cause of the whole rating thing so I don't really know what you fixed up in the next version but other than me slipping around the ladder at first, I felt everything was very solid. I'm quite impressed with it all!

Prize Pumpkin TD by slimefriend 2022-10-06T18:40:09Z

I like the art, the placement of things seems to work well and I like the idea of tower defence with 10 second waves but the game was far too difficult imo. Because you start with so little money, it's hard to survive one wave and you get so little money that I found it almost impossible to expand towards having multiple plants. A little balancing and I think this would be pretty addictive!

It has a great mood though, I love the idea of having to defend a pumpkin and again I do love tower defence. Very cute game and it feels well made!

Ticktock Tactics by Cral 2022-10-06T20:30:01Z

Loved this. The art, music and gameplay are all great and the polish is incredible for how long you spent on it. This is one you should turn into a full game and release it if you aren't already planning on it. There's a lot of potential here and the gameplay being a mix of strategy and being casual enough to be approachable while still providing a challenge is amazing. It's a tough balance to strike. Oh and I love how instead of 10 seconds being a consistently ticking down timer, it's a resource. Very imaginative use of the theme.

One of my favourite games played of the jam by far, very well done! Do more on this!

Thornscatter by KeithSwanger 2022-10-08T20:35:19Z

This had a great mood set with the music. Definitely a game that gets difficult really quick so I found myself slowing right down but it makes you plan out where to make cuts so you can make a path and not box yourself in. The throwns growing looked great and it was really easy to grasp what was happening. Great entry!

on track to party by LucaVazz 2022-10-06T19:46:25Z

A really interesting concept here. I will admit I found it a little tough to figure out what was going on once I was into the game but I managed to win a couple of times! I love the idea of just travelling around by rail conducting all of your business that way so this was great to see. The visual style is great btw, very pleasing on the eye. You've managed to implement quite a lot in here which is really impressive for a jam!

Cybermachine by coolestdoggie 2022-10-06T16:48:04Z

I quite enjoyed this one! Great concept although I do a few suggestions. The fork I feel needs to heal on kill, just feels like it would be a fun mechanic! I would love the finger guns/pistol to do something too. The timer being on screen is great but I feel it would be even better at the crosshair.

Other than that though, very fun! Visually clean and pleasant. The movement felt nice and shooting felt good. Enemy variety was really nice to see and even though it breaks things, I love how you let the player jump on boxes. I dined out on a few robots with the fork! This is one I'd really like to see you keep working on because I think with things changing and being a little out of the hands of the player, there could be some really interesting ways to take the game. Very well done!

Windy Mountain by InitialPosition 2022-10-03T21:03:34Z

I really like the pixel art for this and how floaty the wind feels. Those checkpoints really remind me of Little Big Planet which is a very good thing. My issue is really just the difficulty and the lack of any kind of indicator for the timing. I found some bits really hard to judge and time and I'd over or undershoot things but the concept is great and I liked the feeling of exploring a mountain a lot!

I'd love to see more on this!

Needy Pixel Kitties by Aaron Smith 2022-10-04T20:40:17Z

Very fun! My only real criticisms are the early stages are a little too long and then it very suddenly gets difficult.

Great tutorial! The art was very nice and cute and it's a simple concept that works very well. I like how the cats have physics for each one! I lasted a fair while and enjoyed myself! I'd also love to see this as a match 3 game btw!

Needy Pixel Kitties by Aaron Smith 2022-10-04T20:48:29Z

@aaron-smith Honestly on first look I thought it was a match 3! I think both can be great! Lots of potential for powerups in that form too!

Tbh making casual games feels like a lot of fun! I think that's why I'm really starting to like the jam format, it forces you to kind of lean towards making a short and more casual game and it's such a good way to learn just how fun a small amount of core mechanics built around a few minutes can be! This game was great so I'm sure your next project will be great!!

The Crumbly Fumbly by Lezzlebit 2022-10-06T22:19:46Z

Took me a bit before I realised the dash was in any direction and not just a horizontal one. Very fun, nice and clean visual style and the movement feels good. I do feel the level design could be a bit more forgiving on one ways but I managed to beat the full thing and I had a good time doing it. It's not too often you see good first person movement platformers!

ShipIt! by Joey Van Lierop 2022-10-04T20:21:42Z

I love the art style for this and the music helps add even more charm to it. I did find it very difficult though even once I got used to the controls. I think if we could carry 2 items at once it would have helped loads but other than that, very enjoyable! Planting and growing stuff is quick and easy and the controls are very easy to remember!

The 10 seconds was used well to make the farming induce a feeling of panic! Had my eye on this one and I had a fun time! You got a lot done here!

Pac-Mouse Survival by Thoastbot 2022-10-06T17:00:44Z

Very well done, especially with no engine! I read your post about hitboxes and I have to say, circles are nice but the square hitboxes worked well! The issue I had was sometimes when the layout changes, it would leave me trapped in a 1x1 or a 3 tile L shaped space with nowhere to go.

Other than that, a fun time! I really like how your ghost powerup actually lets the player fly through walls and when it ends or if a layout changes, you don't get stuck in the wall. Feels very smooth. Btw one thing I really like is how you visually implemented the timer over the level with a shadow moving up the screen. It really made keeping track of the timer effortless!

Burger Rush by defilerzero 2022-10-06T19:29:51Z

Very fun idea and I like how quick everything feels. The UI looks great, the music matches the vibe the game is going for and it's a nice way to spend a little time! My only criticism is the controls as I found the keybinds a bit tough to balance which is only an issue because my hands get a bit sore sometimes. I'd love if there was a bar of ingredients and a finish order button to click!

That one thing aside, I still stuck around and had a great time and that's me just wanting more which I think is a great thing. I do also like how you unlock ingredients as you play! This feels like a lot of care went into the game and I'm glad I'd been keeping an eye on this one!

Resource: Remixed by Phillip Scott 2022-10-06T22:05:58Z

This is a really nice game. It looks great, it's very relaxing and I love how you can open up paths to find new places. I do think the game could do with being a little smaller and not having those teleport domes though. I was starting to get frustrated with paths being blocked by the teleports and then not knowing where I was.

Otherwise, great! I really enjoy cartoony games where you casually wander about collecting resources to build towards specific goals and this does that really well. Visual feedback is mostly great, resources are plentiful and it's really clear where you go to spend them. You've managed to do a lot here in 3 days! I love the beams btw, they just feel satisfying to watch harvest stuff!

Every 10 seconds by ache games 2022-10-08T20:40:59Z

I enjoyed this mini deathrun game a lot! The timer made sure I just went for it and the controls felt good! I really like how the simple style persisted with enemies while still actually making obstacles unique.

I'd love to see a version of this with levels a little longer! Managed all the levels and it was really fun to run through!

Slimebonker by Angrybeard 2022-10-06T21:14:58Z

Really fun to play and very easy to grasp. Great controls and going between the upgrade system and the shop is really addictive. The ability to speed up the speed of the game is great at letting the player set their own pace and when things really started to pick up I felt like using items and jumping between shops was a battle in itself. I'd love to see you keep working on this as it's already working great and it felt like some of those idle battler games without the bloat of coin collecting and stuff.

Really fun!

Turnip Terrace by Jonah_SRG 2022-10-04T20:06:21Z

Very fun! I ended with about 88 I think. Very simple gameplay but it feels great! The balancing between planting, watering and pest control was very nicely done and it was nice how the intensity picked up over time. It didn't feel like there was much if any waiting around which kept things flowing nicely too.

The gameplay and art style compliment each other well too. Very nicely done!

Dubious Arcade by ocwal 2022-10-06T19:06:36Z

One or two of the games seem a bit unforgiving but I really enjoyed this! Big wario ware vibes! I love the variety and having multiplayer is great! It's visually very intersting too. Feels like you all had a lot of fun with this one!

Michael Finnegan Begins Again by madeofst 2022-10-03T19:35:49Z

Very fun! I see you went with one button for interactions too and it works great here. Movement was a bit slippy and sometimes I felt like hitting a switch was tough but it added to the hectic nature of trying to get stuff done! Very nice job with making each section of the level add up to a bigger one as a whole, unlocking extra paths was good fun. Great job on the art too!

The teleport spin thing gives me classic Pokemon vibes with those tiles that spin the player and shoot them in a direction!

Dieztion by milq 2022-10-03T19:47:01Z

I really enjoyed this. The music made it feel very chill to me. I do agree it was a bit slow, I think maybe if the abilities and level timers were offset by about 5 seconds and there was a timer on screen it would help a little there. I had a good time though and the art was pleasant and went with the chill vibes. Some fun puzzles and that last one was very enjoyable to beat!

8 levels I feel was a great number too. Very well done!

Dieztion by milq 2022-10-04T00:33:28Z

@milq yeah I did the compo myself and everything takes a long long time to do! I think 8 is a good number but you could always make some more levels and stuff after the jam!

What's wrOng? by Core Foliant 2022-10-06T20:02:49Z

I like the creepy character model and it feels fun when the controls work. The visuals are nice, love the normal controls and the idea of things shifting is great. Crazy game!

Convenience Catastrophe by MasterOfCheese 2022-10-06T21:41:21Z

Very fun concept, I really like the visual style and there's a really enjoyable gameplay loop here. My mouse was incredibly jittery feeling in that it felt like the mouse was turning in snaps in response to me moving it instead of smoothly moving as I moved my mouse which made it tougher to play and I had to stop after a few rounds so I didn't get a headache.

Other than that though, very smooth. At first I was wondering what the point in the jump was but as soon as I found out it's basically a boost, I loved it. I do feel cheated though... the health bar is doughnuts but I don't eat doughnuts to restore it? How could you!

Really though I can tell you had a lot of fun making this and this feels like it would be a perfect little arcade style game either by itself or as a mini game inside another game! Great job with this!

Convenience Catastrophe by MasterOfCheese 2022-10-15T14:55:12Z

@masterofcheese I would double check the rules but I believe you're allowed to fix bugs like that. I don't know if there's any time constraints on that or anything but I think it's allwoed!

Switch Heroes by Delpod 2022-10-03T20:45:19Z

I like the art style and it seems fun having 2 different gameplay styles. I did struggle a bit though as I felt like some rooms placed me directly on enemies from the start meaning forced damage.

I like how there's a few enemy types allowing you to make use of the walls in the middle lots and how you can work towards making something you're struggling with a bit easier with upgrades. The tone of the music was good btw, sets a nice gloomy dungeon feel!

Well done with this! Feels like the beginnings of a fun rogue like dungeon crawler!

House of Kipo by Klumaster 2022-10-04T19:59:19Z

Very nice game! The music with the art style worked really well together and the photography part was very easy to use! Everything ran very smoothly too so I really enjoyed it! I think the difficulty was fine personally too. I've noticed for game jams, leaning on the easier side of difficulty is always the best option as it just makes it accessible to everyone and lets you focus on showing off the core gameplay. I'd love to see a demo of ghosts having their own assigned areas like you mentioned in the comments if you decide to do a little more on this post jam but as it is, a very fun experience!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-02T23:44:15Z

Thank you!!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-03T19:27:53Z

Thank you so much! Yeah the movement is something I'd loved to have worked on more to make it more responsive because sometimes you just want to turn and you skid about. Maybe I should have added a skid effect every time you turn 😅. At first it was slow and much more manageable but then I realised you'd spend half the day just getting to a single place.

Wonder what the gifts you buy are too! They seem to do the job! 😂

I appreciate the kind words! I'm just glad to have improved on my dev skills a little!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-03T20:33:39Z

Thank you! I did think of having the tile the player is on being the one to select but it ended up making things a little tougher to see what you were doing. Maybe next time I can add an option or make it mouse cursor and range based!

We are growing Turnip Cats! Only the best vegetables on this farm!!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-04T00:35:54Z

@m4ttu A friend said the same thing! It wasn't a deliberately inspired thing but the game itself was definitely going for that whole kind of feel Stardew Valley and games like it have. Maybe somewhere in the back of my head so I'll pretend I meant it! Thank you very much!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-04T00:37:11Z

@milq Thank you very much! The movement is something I'd definitely tighten up a bit if I'd had a bit more time to polish things up a bit more. Wish I'd thought to add skid marks when your character turns while I was making it!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-04T20:55:43Z

@ex3d0 Thank you. If I was working on it for longer I'd probably have gone over the art a bit more to make it all look a bit more natural and connected so things don't look so grid like. That's maybe one of my next things to practice at for tilemaps so I can throw stuff together a bit quicker!

@delpod Thank you very much for all the nice things said! Tile selection I'm just happy works tbh as it's my first time ever even approaching something like it.

I have been mulling around with the idea of making it mouse/floating cursor based with a range limit from the character to make it a bit easier and faster to select stuff so I think next time I have a go at this sort of thing, that'll be what I do. That or I might do some fancy auto selecting stuff so instead of having to move around so much, you can just mash space and it'll change to another tile.

The tile selection seems to be a common sentiment and when rushing I had the same issue! Ty for the feedback! :)

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-06T15:33:54Z

@aaron-smith @muzakefron @pixelydian @vidarn @waterfowler @quoclon

Thank you all so much for your fe3edback! By far the most and the best feedback I've ever received for any game I've made! It's all very encouraging and has made my week!

All great criticisms too and stuff I'll hopefully manage to start nailing down faster in future projects! Thank you again!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-06T20:46:05Z

@juanrod707 Roller skates... I should have given the character roller skates! Thank you so much!

@cyberfrank Tbh that's entirely by design. I felt like having a lose state on a game like this would be a bit frustrating. I was thinking about making it so the relationship status decays every few days if you don't give another gift in time but I didn't have quite enough time at the end to add and see if it was a good fit. Selling the harvest was actually planned too but with the lack of time I wasn't too sure if that would be a step too many. Sound effects I just didn't have time for.

Great feedback and all very fair. Thank you for the very thoughtful comment! All stuff I think I'd throw in there if I had another day on it!

@flying-dog-fish Yeah it's a bit more frantic as is. The best way for framing is grab tools and tap away at that space bar like crazy row by row to get it all done in time. Thank you for playing!!

@exaggegen That was my hope. 3 stats you can use to try and beat your own scores!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-06T21:43:39Z

@excy Thank you! I will say though it's absolutely crazy what you and Cral achieved with your game!

Life is Fleeting by Sarah Alexa 2022-10-15T15:00:30Z

@dis0rder I suspect it's some of that crazy browser OS combo or something because I've never seen anything remotely like that! If those are just 2 screenshots spliced together to make it easier to view, it looks like the font just doesn't work or is swapped out on your system. Maybe some Construct 3 compatibility issues there!

Collisions to stop you walking through stuff weren't added as I just didn't have the time before the compo ended, I let that slide since the 10 second days let you focus on that stuff a wee bit less but you cannot enter buildings so no worries there!

Thank you for the nice comments and hopefully if you tried on desktop Construct 3 fonts treated you better!

deleted by Daniel - Wither 2022-10-06T19:37:11Z

I like the idea of this game. The art and lighting go well together and I like how the 10 seconds only applies to rounds with a short cooldown between them. I would like to see crystals either be a lot more frequent so it's easier to find or to have the camera zoomed out to show the whole map however. I found sometimes there just wasn't any way to find the right crystal in time.

Fun game though! Movement felt good, I like how the crystals emit their colour as lighting and things were simple and easy to pickup!

Zombie Bomb 10 by Sparkinex 2022-10-06T19:51:53Z

I'm liking the art and idea here. Animations seem great! I feel like the force field should be automatic and maybe injure the zombies but you just collect the resources for it but either way it definitely keeps the intensity going! I appreciated the audio cue so I knew when to be ready!

Very well done! The best zombie model I've seen all jam!

LD52 — Harvest

H. R. Vest by mvasko2 2023-01-14T15:37:57Z

Very good game! I liked the style and theme and the music reminded me of the SNES/N64 days. For some reason I got SNES Jurassic Park vibes from the music! It was nice having some exploration and puzzles, the lab felt like a place and not just a bunch of corridors. I wish you had used the space the monster was in to hide a key to turn the power on for the trap or something as the pathfinding seemed to work well and balancing stamina use with looping it around tables was fun!

I liked the block sliding puzzle at the end although I do wish there was an indication of where the 9 or 1 key goes as I had to completely reorganise it a few times to figure out the right order. Other than that, really well done! Great job!

Tile King by MiltonNH25 2023-01-14T15:20:37Z

Very fun game! I spent a little while just relaxing with this. The art is clear, the game loop doesn't take long to figure out and after a bit I felt like I couldn't lose which I think is great for a game like this.

I would love to see a volume slider or toggle as I did find it a bit piercing but generally it was nice and chill! Another thing I would like to see is the ability to keep placing the same tile without having to go back and select it again which would help with building roads and such.

Overall, great little game and a nice way to pass the time!

Farmtastic by Talia 2023-01-14T16:50:10Z

Really nice little game of figuring out what does what by playing. I loved the art and presentation, placing stuff felt great and unlocking new packs was always interesting! The only things I'd really like to see changed is maybe more ways to free up spaces and some goals/scenarios to solve for a level based game but that's only if you work on it more which would be nice to see!

One of the most fun games I've played so far! Great job!

Bloodflail by Untitled Studios 2023-01-14T16:27:15Z

Very fun game! Keeps things simple and uses what's there to great effect! I love the levelling up mechanic and the feedback on hitting stuff is great!

My main issue is it's too easy to scale to being too powerful too quickly and I quickly realised the best strategy is to just sit still in a ring flails. If it's slightly bigger than the player then you can sit inside just one of them too and win. I think maybe requiring the flail to be swinging to cause damage and having some enemies with more HP would solve this.

Loved it though and the music reminded me of marble blast and a few twin stick shooter games!

Harvest Swarm by LuhUchiha 2023-01-14T16:39:06Z

I really enjoyed this! Feels similar to my last game in particular in many ways so I'm a little biased in liking it but it seemed great! Your art was very nice, I love the GameBoy green aesthetic personally so this was very nice to see. Weapon switching worked well and crop growing seemed to be nice and fast!

The only thing I wasn't so keen on was the bugs ticking health down just by existing instead of by attacking but once I got into the habit of taking care of them, it wasn't an issue. I got the timing down too so I found I could get into a rhythm.

Great job with this!

Soul Harverster by MarcoMing 2023-01-14T14:51:05Z

Nice entry! Multiplayer is a very ambitious thing for a jam, let alone online multiplayer! A nice and simple concept for gameplay that's easy to understand and I liked the audio!

I did have a few issues with the aiming not working for me and left click only working occasionally. I had to centre my mouse cursor just above the player character and then only aim with movement keys and space to fire. With aiming, I noticed the ghosts disappear every time the projectile character hits them from the side but dead on it worked perfectly!

For the level I think I would like it if the level was a little more condensed but with 20-30 seconds less time but tbh, not really an issue and it was quite relaxing to play. Well done!

The Eversoul by Substain 2023-01-14T15:59:09Z

I like the theme of this and the loop of summoning and harvesting is pretty fun but I did have a few issues with things like aiming and a lack of feedback in game. I think with tightening up the controls and feedback you could have a very fun little game about summoning and invading!

Very nice 3d models and the castle looked great! The music was nice to have too, not too loud and fits the theme. Great job!

Hartifacts by lisyarus 2023-01-14T17:08:44Z

Really fun game and very well done for a compo game! I love the hexagonal grid being used as a puzzle game within a world and after finishing the full thing, I really enjoyed the puzzles. This is something I could easily see turn into a full game!

Soiled - A hectic 2D plant-selling game by treenut 2023-01-14T16:33:21Z

I loved the use of physics for this! I do feel the hitbox is a bit too small for things being planted, I'd love to be able to plant stuff just hitting the side of planters but it was fun running about, throwing and kicking stuff! Great concept for having a flower shop game!

Arnold the Reaper by D3kryption 2023-01-14T14:39:14Z

This was very well done! The art style and visuals are lovely, you have a very well realised port town that feels fun to explore. Doing a cut scene is really well done and the audio is nice too! With gameplay I did feel it was a bit clunky. It took me a minute to realise the bottom right was my current target and combat I feel was a bit stop and start. I think allowing the scythe to be out at all times and being able to attack while moving would sort that out.

Animations were great though and I like the idea of hunting down people in busy locations who have cheated death and are trying to blend in. Great job!

HARRR Vests by Lomby 2023-01-14T16:05:35Z

I really liked this. It gave me big Wario Ware vibes! I love how it's a very simple concept used well. There being no way to lose yet the game still being challenging was great for making it feel relaxing and the clothes moving about was a great way to show the ship swaying about and making things more difficult.

I feel using the space key as well as e would be great as well as maybe the mouse but one thing I think I would love is for holding the button down to be how it's done and the challenge being also about keeping as close along it as possible. In my head a Wario Ware/Mario party crayon minigame is what I would love.

This is one of my favourite games of the jam so far! The art was great as well!

Juicy Reaping by Kita 2023-01-14T15:49:15Z

Nice entry! I like the multiple use of seeds for healing and planting, growing your own weapons is a very nice touch and tying seed drops to combat is a good way of making sure people participate in combat more.

I do wish the enemy spawns scaled up slower and that seeds didn't act as mini walls but maybe multiple farming patches would solve that. Maybe a slight buff to healing too.

Very fun little game and it's a nice and hectic way to spend a few minutes seeing how far you can get! Nice 3d models and I appreciated that you could still attack with the shovel if your weapon runs out. If you work on more games like this, it would be fun to see a co-op version!

__________________________

I just want to add that there's definitely issues with this game that I just didn't have the time to fix up. Here's some of them:

Some error/correction messages will just now disappear There's some weird visual bugs when going between scenes The NPCs you're supposed to advance your relationship with are absolutely tiny though they have big hearts to help them stand out at least There's no walk audio because I forgot to add a state for keeping track of it The pause menu has no dark background, I didn't have time to even throw one on The volume slider doesn't really work as well as it should, if at all There are no physical collisions on anything to prevent the player from walking through them Sometimes tilled soil will just untill itself when crops are growing on them The selected slot on the hotbar can be difficult to make out

Harvesting has AOE... this is now a feature

Other worthwhile mentions:

If I had more time, I would redo all character sprites including the player I would also add in more animations and interactions with the environment Some tiles don't tile terribly well with each other because of a lack of time I kept forgetting I needed to have gifts selected to use them and it began to annoy me, I think with the short format game jam games have, it's a bit too tedious

I definitely felt limited by Construct 3 this time as things I wanted to do were limited in how I could go about it, making those things take a fair bit longer

All that said, it was a solo project and I'm quite pleased with what I got done. I was beating myself up about not being able to enter the compo but with doing so many new things and the game only being in a state where you can actually play it from start to end at the last minute.

Anyways, looking forward to seeing what others came up with!

I’ve also included it in the first comment. The link was included with my submission but I guess something bugged out on the site or something as it didn’t include it. Seems to be showing now but linked in comments just in case.

Thank you for letting me know!

Life is Fleeting: New Harvest by Sarah Alexa 2023-01-14T14:23:52Z

@svenerik Thank you! I wish I could have solved the graphical issues and made the start a wee bit faster but I'm glad it wasn't horrible to play!

@lisyarus Thank you for all the feedback! Was the stuff you couldn't till/farm on the upper 2 rows per chance? I had some issues with that happening in my tests and they really annoy me! It was one of those bugs I really wanted to fix but didn't have enough time to come back to at the end. If I'd had even 10 more minutes what I think I'd have done as a quick fix is just replace the problematic farm tiles with grass tiles.

The hoe and watering can graphics I actually hate. They look horrible and the colouring was very much placeholder stuff I realised I didn't have time to change but the glow/outline suggestion is actually great! Agree with picking the instruments up, the idea was that you'd initially purchase the watering can from the shop and then water the crops that are already planted until harvest and then use the money from that for seeds and the hoe to have a progression line which I wish I'd managed to get in there.

The cursor is something I'd work on a bit more for next time. I want it to glow more to be more obvious. I do have using the scroll wheel to switch as a thing and arrow keys were for movement as some prefer it but I definitely agree that it wasn't the most intuitive. In testing towards the end, I found I kept forgetting I needed to switch slots for stuff. I think for a short jam game, it def needs some work there.

Holding the key down to water and stuff was actually something I tried implementing but I encountered an odd bug that made it completely unusable. Construct has some weird quirks and for time's sake I had to scrap it but yeah holding it down was honestly way more fun other than it breaking the game haha.

Thank you for playing and for the thoughtful feedback! Some great suggestions there and it'll let me hopefully focus a bit more for the next game! One thing I'm going to spend a bit more time practicing is feedback and direction for starting the game so I can work on stuff quicker without having to figure out issues during jams as often!

@gabrimer I did consider making the days have no timer but I did want a little of that feeling that you still needed to make good use of each day. I tried a minute for each day initially and it just felt far too long. Thank you!

@lomby Thank you!

LD53 — Delivery

Delivery Rock by geck0 2023-05-09T20:21:17Z

This is such a cool idea! Taking survival game mechanics and using them for this was a really nice change of pace. I love the 3d modelling and how easy to understand and play it all is!

I do think maybe one less hit to gather and making it so the rock doesn't roll away and do its own thing would be good but outside of that it felt very relaxing to play! A mode without timers to just switch off to would probably have me zoning out to it!

Great job on the music btw, it was so jolly and fitting! Really well done!

Snail Mail by MartensCedric 2023-05-08T21:35:51Z

Nice little puzzle game! The visuals, audio and gameplay matched well! I did have an issue where sometimes snails just wouldn't spawn or the arrows to control them refused to appear but when it works, it worked very well. I'm surprised you managed to fit so many puzzles in for a game jam but you did a good job of starting easy and getting more difficult as it goes on. Very well done!

Multiverse Delivery Inc. by yoanndeplo 2023-05-08T19:54:07Z

I quite enjoyed this! The difficulty does quickly start to get quite low quite fast but I don't think that's a bad thing, I got a good sense of scaling quickly and it encouraged looking at towns. I like exploring the world map and then positioning units for an almost battle sim style of gameplay and the abilities were a nice touch for staying involved!

If you kept working on this it would be fun seeing where it goes!

Beelivery by Jejkobb 2023-05-09T15:34:33Z

This was great. I loved the 3D models and the original songs were nice and cheery. Though a bit sensitive, it was pretty fun swinging the jar around and it was nice seeing the rope physics used for some of the obstacles! My only real complaint I think is some obstacles were hard to get through because the previous ones obscured the view but otherwise great! The checkpoint system helped a lot and was frequent enough to keep things approachable too.

The start and ending cut scenes were so good too!

Piano rescued!!

Deliver Unto Dusk by Balgorode 2023-05-08T20:05:20Z

I enjoyed this! I liked the dialogue between levels and it was nice making use of one location for each mission letting you learn the layout. I do wish there was a little on screen indicator of where the delivery location is but otherwise, it felt quite easy to get about. The 3 star rating with little challenges was something I wanted to do in my own game but I didn't have time for so it was really nice seeing a challenge system in your game and working well!

I feel like you managed to do a lot within the time. Very nice!

XD Lines by Renard 2023-05-08T20:53:51Z

This was quite impressive having a minimap with a working GPS for pathfinding as well as some basic traffic and racing opponents! It felt like those simulator games combined with arcade style racing! I did find it tough to stop myself just zooming over the hills but water being an obstacle and keeping my balance to stay ahead was pretty fun! My only complaint? I wanted ramps for some air time!

Really well done though, selecting missions/races was a nice way to let me feel like I had a choice in what I was doing too. Good fun and very impressive for a jam especially!

Delivery City by digital bacon 2023-05-09T22:02:43Z

Nice little game. The job picking system works well and the arrows make it very clear where to go. I did find the hitboxes a bit small and sometimes nowhere near their respective building but once I knew to watch out for it, I managed well. It was nice having the city be quite small as instead of getting lost you could just focus on the task at hand!

Delvery Service by Reispfannenfresser 2023-05-08T20:13:46Z

Lost a city's worth of mail: 10/10. I think I won when the big package got thrown out at the end and I murdered everything in sight. It was a good time! I think I'd like enemies to have a little feedback when they get hit but otherwise the game looked nice and bright and I appreciated the context of the rope at the start! A good amount of enemy variation for a jam and the controls felt good. The music was good at giving a calming vibe too!

Well done with this! If you decide to do any more on this, I'd love to see the ability to explore in different directions a little too!

ANGRY DELIVERY by ROBOWARRIOR1982 2023-05-09T22:26:38Z

I think it would work well if packages fell out of the vans and there were delivery zones to drive through so it's like you're stealing delivery jobs on the job and for the crosshair to affect where your shots go but I like the idea here. Shooting stuff and having them fly off and sometimes cause chain reactions was fun! It was pretty funny sending old ladies on mopeds into space!

I like the HUD btw, nice and immersive. Nice job getting an upgrade system implemented too! Good job!

Daily-very by Fersyvanderzee 2023-05-08T21:04:22Z

This was a nice concept for a really chill memory game! I had a nice time with it and I enjoyed how simple the visuals were and how clean it made everything feel. The music was nice and calm and it looped perfectly which was a nice touch. I do think it was a tad slow and found the shops didn't restock enough each time but I had no issues with the game, it worked very well! It's one of these universally understandable games IMO which isn't something you see too often!

30 Minutes Or Heck by radgegames 2023-05-08T21:43:58Z

This was fun! I liked the little details like goo at the bottom of some vents and the CRT warping effect on the screen. I would love to see some visual feedback on enemies and the player being hit and maybe slower enemy projectiles in favour of higher numbers, and to know what upgrades are doing when we get them I enjoyed running about, taking cover and taking out as many as I could. For the boss, it was a bit too easy to cheese by firing from outside the room but it was great seeing bullet patterns from it and it was pretty fun to fight.

I liked the sprites, the music was fitting and I kept playing once I was done! Very nicely done! Oh and the main character's name is great!

30 Minutes Or Heck by radgegames 2023-05-09T21:50:02Z

@radgegames Time limits can be evil at times but it was still great regardless!

Rover Herd by JHax 2023-05-09T20:35:11Z

This was pretty well done with having so many different behaviours and items interacting with each other! Pretty good idea for a more hands on puzzle game! Really well done!

Pizzapocalypse by GERD 2023-05-08T20:37:50Z

This was great! I loved how you added verticality to the level to allow for some good shortcuts and the theme was great. I appreciate a good arrow compass too! The graffiti and art style in general was great and worked well with the music so I had a lot of fun!

If there was anything I'd improve, it would really just be letting the player punch objects like cars and bins as well as making zombies lose their hitboxes as soon as they die but I don't really have nay complaints! Great game!

Fuscus and The Garlic Kin by Buumiii 2023-05-09T19:53:03Z

I really like this. The art is so good and the frog voice is perfect! Jumping is fun and I just want to explore! That cost me a couple frogs being lost to the void when I climbed up and jumped off to left of the start on the delivery level! :joy:

One little issue I had was enemies and spikes blended into the environment with no contrast and so I kept running into them. I also ran past the enemies because they don't die in one or two hits.

I really enjoyed it though. Speedrunning it and going for the collectibles was a lot of fun! Throwing up at flies, jumping around and diving off ledges was great fun! The audio generally fit the game well too! I love the colour palette as well. I feel like you could take the art and the idea and run with it for a full game!

Moonrabbit Collection by DaFluffyPotato 2023-05-08T20:24:50Z

I loved this! The graphics with all the little details like particles and grass reacting to you going through it made it feel great, the almost vignette effect around the edges with how it looked and the audio all came together to make something that felt great! The music matched the gameplay so well.

I'd love to see this worked on and turned into a full game of some sort, or at least something bigger. It's very impressive for a jam and something I want to see more of!

Pizza Delivery by Codexzier 2023-05-09T15:54:37Z

I don't think I've seen pizza delivery by sea before! Very nice and fast paced I thought and the inventory system worked well. I think I'd like to see fewer islands in the middle and an island to dump unwanted pizzas on but I had a fun time with it! I like how your water looked in particular and the music had a nice intense feel to it.

I think it was a good length, especially for a game jam which encouraged playing for a few extra tries! This would feel right at home as a little arcade or minigame in another game!

Andromeda Delivery Service by lisyarus 2023-05-07T13:28:11Z

I loved this. The building made sense right away to me and it was fun once I had a few grappling hooks going seeing how my compact ship reacted to the physics. It's very different but I got a similar feel to how JetPac gave all those years ago with collecting fuel to build up your ship so you could move on and explore.

I really appreciate how there doesn't really seem to be a fail state, if something doesn't work then you just go back and change your build and get back to it. It makes it all feel very relaxing. One of these games I may book up every now and then to switch off tbh! I know you're busy with another game as a focus but I'd love to see this kind of thing explored more at some point in the future!

I enjoyed realising I could ride the enemies to victory and defeat them by tooting from above!

This was fun! It took a simple concept and ran with it! One small issue is if you miss the first page, there's no way to get back up to it after you've continued on and descended to the second page. One little platform to let the player get back up would solve that. Otherwise, all good!

Fighting enemies was fun because you have to attack and then back off before they can get their hits in. I really liked that little touch with the crows flying away near the end when you get near! Nice clean art style and a nice bit of cheerful music! That Queen was not happy at the end!! Nicely done!

Grab N' Dash by kyboon 2023-05-08T21:16:58Z

This was pretty fun! I like the 4 claw system and the visuals came together nicely! The music went hard but it looks like you opted out of that category? Either way, great job with it! It set the vibe.

In regards to the controls, personally I think having the claws numbered from 1-4 and using those same keys would make the whole thing feel more intuitive for me but outside of that, everything felt like it worked well! Well done with this!

Deliver Us From Evil by Tobius 2023-05-09T15:47:09Z

I love the art, the music is really nice and fits the theme and the concept I think is great. It's a fun story too! I was unable to finish it because I couldn't stop items going ahead of Farquaad making them unrecoverable (I think maybe a a small zone behind him and an invisible wall ahead would sort that out) but when it all lines up it works so well!

I like the dialogue and the throwing stuff up in the air to catch it in the backpack was really fun! Also... right to left gameplay is a + in my book! We don't see enough of that! Great job with this! It's something I feel has some great potential if you all kept working on it!

Apocalypse Express by D3kryption 2023-05-09T16:28:15Z

This was pretty impressive overall! I had the sense assets were used and wanted to know which set because they looked great and now I know thanks to the description! The level design was nice and the level was unnecessarily big in a good way so I had a fun 5 to 10 minutes running around exploring!

A quest system, voiced NPCs, a dialogue system, NPCs walking about and shooting were all very nice things to have implemented. I almost got the feeling you plan to work on it a bit more with the scale but it could just be so the questing had a nice backdrop which it did, it felt like being in a big world!

A couple things I would suggest: -A retry button as one time a corpse killed me because the body hadn't despawned yet and the only option was to close and relaunch the game -The option to skip dialogue, mainly for the previous reason

This was very pleasant to play though. It made my laptop heat up like crazy but zombie killing will heat things up a bit! Great job with this!

Fed Up Delivery by Sarah Alexa 2023-05-08T21:54:58Z

@stevie257 Thank you! The graphics are something I was really uncertain of after submitting but I enjoyed making them!

@potadex Thank you :)

@roguebrain It does! I think including both of ours, I've seen 3 with this name so far haha. Yeah the boxes are deliberately inaccurate when you throw them to make it a little more chaotic throwing everything out of the window when you're driving. An oopsie is throwing rubbish onto a delivery zone which will get rid of the zone and if you do it enough then it fails the level. Thank you for playing!

@mahc I think they have a bottomless stomach!!

@d3kryption Thank you so much! If I'd had the time I'd have made the city a little bigger and had a level where there's no time limit and maybe another to act as an endless mode. I did manage to make it so if you hit the mysterious box ahead of where you start or packages on the ground at a high enough speed that they react though!

@codexzier I really appreciate that thank you! I was trying so hard to make it intuitive so I'm extremely happy to read that!

Fed Up Delivery by Sarah Alexa 2023-05-08T22:04:23Z

@vary Reversing does work but I find the camera a little disorienting when the lorry is passing under it. Camera systems are something I think I want to play around with a bunch in future since they make such a difference.

I'm glad you enjoyed the package throwing, I definitely wanted players to create a bit of a mess during each shift! Shift 5 made me laugh a few times in testing, I did have to nerf it ever so slightly before submission but what you said was the best reaction I could have hoped for! This is the first entry in a game jam I think where I've been able to call the game finished!

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Fed Up Delivery by Sarah Alexa 2023-05-08T22:49:35Z

@ixniyevonn Very high praise! Thank you so much!

@stuembi Thank you! I tried to ease players into it so by Shift 5, the chaos is somewhat manageable haha

Fed Up Delivery by Sarah Alexa 2023-05-09T01:19:54Z

@dxk2294 Thank you! The difficulty experience is awesome to hear, hopefully the last one didn't take too many tries to finish! It's tough balancing that in a jam!

@aivaxela This calls for more litter! Thank you so much for all of that. Bumpin is exactly what I wanted from the music!! If I had more time or if I resubscribe to Construct I was thinking of maybe doing an endless mode, some challenges like you mentioned or even things like specific packages being delivered to specific places. One thing I'm sad I didn't get to implement was rubbish disposal zones! You can see the concept was there at the end of the street you spawn in on the right side on the ground with some left over 2D art!

@arsher I did consider that, it ultimately came down to theme over the camera angle there. I considered a first person camera on the lorry briefly but I feel that would have gone a little wrong haha.

@automatonvx The physics when throwing out of the window are intentionally a little random. They'll go vaguely in the direction you throw them in to add to the theme of frantically throwing stuff out the window of a moving van. The engine doesn't support 3D physics so I essentially had to manually code stuff in and randomise a few things just to add a little character to it. Main thing is throw em out like crazy!

For the hunger though, there's 3 shops in the city and the green arrow will point to the nearest one. You can go as far as you like until it tells you to go to the shop in which case it's best to zoom to one if you aren't next to a delivery zone. There is a period where when you have no bottles it just shows skulls to hopefully allow for those last second refills. If I return to it at some point I'd probably make the earlier levels have an additional shop and extend the hunger meter a little more to make it a little less stressful.

I appreciate the feedback and you giving it a good go, thank you! I'm glad you liked the visuals and music!

@niz You were right with the arrows only they relate to the side they pop out of relative to the lorry itself. I appreciate the feedback. If I was to ever to return to it I'll definitely take a bunch of it on board. The misophonia issue hadn't occurred to me so I'd probably have it as an accessibility option alongside some QoL stuff.

@geck0 Littering?? Disgraceful! Shameful! Scandalous! Glad you enjoyed it thank you!

@madbarron Only the most realistic delivery sims here!

Fed Up Delivery by Sarah Alexa 2023-05-09T22:06:05Z

@radgegames Thank you! I did explore simple options but it just didn't feel like there was any character with pressing a button as opposed to lobbing them out in a drive by and dropping packages like crazy in later levels! You can avoid dragging them past the arrows though, if you let the mouse button go mid motion, you'll throw the packages!

Fed Up Delivery by Sarah Alexa 2023-05-09T22:23:37Z

@robowarrior1982 The arrows aren't to drop on but to indicate where to throw or place the packages, if you let go of the mouse button mid motion you'll throw them. The lorry does use 2D physics but I wanted some weight to it. In the original version there was more weight to it and the lorry was composed of the cabin and box as 2 separate items joined to each other but there were a few issues with reversing and if the player for whatever reason decided to do doughnuts, some weird stuff happened!

If I was to continue work on it again at some point or remake it in another engine, my plan would be for different delivery points and for zones to be dynamic with rules so they could appear anywhere outside of a minimum range!

Thank you for playing!

@zgragselus @paul-avallone @python-b5 @jhax @jiexdrop

Thank you all so much for the kind words!! I’d been away from here for a week ish to focus on some other stuff so this was really nice to come back to!

Makes me kind of want to stick with the project or revisit the idea!

FedUp by RogueBrain 2023-05-09T19:29:31Z

This was pretty fun! The visual style worked well with the voices and style of game very well! I did find objects stacking on top of each other lots so sometimes things would get lost but otherwise things got into a decent flow! Having all those voiced characters was pretty fun to see!

It kept things simple, matched the theme well and I had fun, great job!

Before It Gets Cold by Cloverfall 2023-05-08T21:09:48Z

This was nice and simple, very easy to play and it did one thing I enjoyed that I don't see often in runner games at all: you can dodge between cars where the corners are near! It adds a nice risk taking option. The other? You you can swap back to the lane you just swapped away from mid-transition meaning you don't have to commit to a choice.

If you were to work on it a little more, I'd love to see a points system that ticks up based on how long you've been running and how many obstacles you pass with near misses giving bonus points. Good game as is though, I had fun!

Postman Path by reivilibre 2023-05-09T18:35:16Z

Beat them all! This was a really fun puzzle game. Visually everything was distinct and easy on the eyes, it was a fun take on Postman Pat and it was very easy to see the path and where sausages got thrown. The music was cheerful and relaxed while planning out levels and the controls were pretty good! I did find the difficulty spike at level 8 to be a bit extreme and I wish when a level restarted, my previous attempt was kept so I could adjust what I had instead of memorising and starting over.

I'm glad I stuck with it and spent the time completing each puzzle. They got pretty challenging for some levels and it was great figuring out the chase, sausage, mail loop! The music when you execute your plan is great too!

Puzzle games are pretty tough to develop and this was really well done. 18 levels is quite a feat! Great job on this!

Porch Pirate Panic by Stevie257 2023-05-09T19:14:53Z

Great game! I really enjoyed the 3d version of the old snes style aesthetic! The soundtrack was nice, the sounds were good and the enemy variety was nice to see.

I didn't finish this one because on wave 9, I found a little into it, 3 of the convoy/tank style vehicles would spawn and my character would just be taken to the game over screen from full HP after being unable to move for a few seconds but I played it as much as I could and I got to there a good 3-4 times so it's fun!

I like the shop though I wish buying an item didn't lock out the ability to repair since you can do that the other way around and auto refilled ammo on starting a new wave would be nice but those are pretty small things! You had a great range of weapons and they all managed to feel unique and fun to use.

I love how you've merged a runner style game with a twin stick shooter style! Really well done!!

Some Postman by jakelazaroff 2023-05-08T20:43:19Z

This was a pretty fun idea! I don't know why some people are getting so many love letters but I won't stand for it! It was pretty simple but it worked really well and I really liked the option to speed things up to give myself more of a challenge! I did feel sometimes letters with no hearts visible were considered love letters so I don't know if some letters were being hidden but otherwise I don't think I encountered a single issue.

Great job!

Read All About It by Bomo9710 2023-05-09T03:00:00Z

I spent a fair while on this just chilling after I saw your post on the main feed. To be honest I think you're being overly harsh about your game.

There is one issue I encountered which is negative progress wherein correctly delivering a paper will instead give you a penalty that can multiply. I think this is because instead of papers being destroyed on collision with a house marked for delivery, it lingers and slides or pings off houses so when a delivery house reverts to a normal house or pings off, it then collides again and incurs a penalty which seems to scale. That's more an issue if you play for longer though and something I think is fixable.

The game itself was pretty fun. I think it needs to start off with more houses available and I think the scaling for upgrades needs to increase in cost less but multiply in effect per level to encourage upgrading but what's there works well. The minimap was small but appreciated, the highlights on the houses were very clear and it was a nice touch having the grass slow you down to encourage using the roads.

Having an upgrade system was great and encouraged playing just a bit longer to get the next one and over time I figured out which upgrades I wanted to focus on and which ones I wanted to ignore so it lets you play in your own style. I would love to see an off road upgrade! A very simple concept that was mostly executed well imo! Nicely done!

Left to Do by Ixniyevonn 2023-05-09T19:38:43Z

I liked the theme of this being set in a post apocalyptic world, the art was great too! The flying around felt really satisfying and the compass made things feel really nice and simple. I did encounter a couple of odd issues though, at some point after any quest there seems to be a chance the compass will show my next objective as being infinitely to the south west and I noticed I could only gain my new objective by picking the last delivery back up.

Great little game though. Good atmosphere, light hearted music and art that made this little world feel more alive despite it being post apocalyptic!

BANKWAVE: Neon Networth by Frabjous Studios 2023-05-09T21:33:39Z

The music and graphics for this were so good! There was definitely a period of confusion before things started to click and make sense. I do wish it was a little clearer that you can type in the account numbers and that there was a way to store deposit or withdrawal slips that hid them from view... or even a stamp for them to hand back to customers.

You already know about the crashing but I thought it might be worth adding that every 1-3 seconds, the game consistently freezes for a good half to full second which makes it pretty hard to interact with.

Back to playing it though, once everything clicks, it worked so well. I like the day to day with the little conversations. The ability to mess with rude customers and the shift click system works great. It's pretty nice counting stuff out and making sure everything is correct! I didn't see a timer so I never felt rushed so it's a great game to relax to that I'd love to see you all keep working on!

@frabjous-studios That’s definitely something I’ll keep an eye on!! Also I envy the deving on a Mac! I want to keep my windows laptop but I really want an escape to macOS!
