Great entry! The graphics are really nice too

Nice

roguebrain 2023-05-08 21:08

Our game has the same name! I like the use of perspective where it looks like you are looking through the truck as you drive around and throw the boxes. The boxes are a little finnicky, it's not easy telling where they are going to land when you throw them. I also couldn't really understand what qualified as an "oopsie". Very cool game!

mahc 2023-05-08 21:31

that was fun. it gets so chaotic and I just wanna know why my driver needs to eat so much

d3kryption 2023-05-08 21:35

Love the graphics! Beautiful style. The grid style works really well too. I enjoyed driving around and exploring while I could lol

nice job! :)

codexzier 2023-05-08 21:39

Theme hit. Intuitively controllable. had only taken a few seconds to understand how and when I deliver the packages.

vary 2023-05-08 21:47

Once I got the hang of the driving, this was quite fun. The key, I think, is to just never reverse. The actual throwing mechanic was jank and I see by your description that it was purposeful and I think that adds to the charm. I've had to drive right up to buildings and mass toss packages hoping one would land. Shift 5 was incredible. Having all the packages and garbage build up and block my view was very funny. I'd grab one and just shake it around to throw objects up while repeating "I'm fine!" and trying to drive to my destination. AND you did all this alone?! Amazing work!

sarah-alexa 2023-05-08 21:54

@stevie257 Thank you! The graphics are something I was really uncertain of after submitting but I enjoyed making them!

@potadex Thank you :)

@roguebrain It does! I think including both of ours, I've seen 3 with this name so far haha. Yeah the boxes are deliberately inaccurate when you throw them to make it a little more chaotic throwing everything out of the window when you're driving. An oopsie is throwing rubbish onto a delivery zone which will get rid of the zone and if you do it enough then it fails the level. Thank you for playing!

@mahc I think they have a bottomless stomach!!

@d3kryption Thank you so much! If I'd had the time I'd have made the city a little bigger and had a level where there's no time limit and maybe another to act as an endless mode. I did manage to make it so if you hit the mysterious box ahead of where you start or packages on the ground at a high enough speed that they react though!

@codexzier I really appreciate that thank you! I was trying so hard to make it intuitive so I'm extremely happy to read that!

sarah-alexa 2023-05-08 22:04

@vary Reversing does work but I find the camera a little disorienting when the lorry is passing under it. Camera systems are something I think I want to play around with a bunch in future since they make such a difference.

I'm glad you enjoyed the package throwing, I definitely wanted players to create a bit of a mess during each shift! Shift 5 made me laugh a few times in testing, I did have to nerf it ever so slightly before submission but what you said was the best reaction I could have hoped for! This is the first entry in a game jam I think where I've been able to call the game finished!

Thank you so much for the feedback!

ixniyevonn 2023-05-08 22:41

Awesome game! I haven't seen such a nice games made in construct, great job

stuembi 2023-05-08 22:43

Hah fun story and idea, hits the theme spot on. Throwing the packages felt a bit weird at the begining but after getting used to it i had a blast lol Very well put together game, good job!

dxk2294 2023-05-08 22:46

When I played the first couple of shifts, I was thinking, "Hah, this is easy!" But man, that last shift is pretty difficult. It was funny watching the trash pile up in my truck as I made deliveries - and the graphics were quite charming. Nice job!

aivaxela 2023-05-08 22:47

I REFUSE TO LITTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Screenshot_1.png

This game was a blast! equal parts fun to play and hilarious. The music was bumpin and the art style was simple yet elegant. it was not too challenging tbh, the time allowance was quite forgiving, I only failed once and that was only because I got stuck between two buildings. I could see future installments of this game involving other challenge factors such as vehicle damage or specific deliveries go to specific houses. None of that fine tuning is expected in a jam game anyways so it hardly matters - this was a great game! and felt very complete.

sarah-alexa 2023-05-08 22:49

@ixniyevonn Very high praise! Thank you so much!

@stuembi Thank you! I tried to ease players into it so by Shift 5, the chaos is somewhat manageable haha

arsher 2023-05-08 22:51

Throwing boxes out the cabin window is pretty funny, but the third-person view on car creates a bizarre dissonance.

automatonvx 2023-05-08 23:20

Pretty fun take on the delivery theme. I liked The combination of top down view of the road and van with the in van view to throw out the parcels. Main problem for me was the weird physics going on with throwing out the packages, after i threw them they seemed to end up following around my van and being influenced by my controls, also the height and so landing point was weirdly unpredicatable. I completed the first 2 levels ok, second one took me a while and it seemed I just needed to eat constantly so the best tactic was stay right next to the shop as dying of hunger was my main problem. I liked the visual style, thought it worked pretty well and the upbeat dancy soundtrack added a bit mood and energy. So basically solid effort slightly let down by weird physics and maybe a bit of balancing

niz 2023-05-08 23:41

I like the idea of delivering by throwing to the sides of the car.

The visuals of the map and the car panel are nice. The city is pretty clear to traverse, however, I would really appreciate some changes in UI. The colors for the arrows to throw packages made me a bit confused. I thought the green one was the right side to throw, and that tricked me at the beginning. Also, the buttons at the level select screen could use more feedback, I didn't know I had them clicked until something happened on-screen. The counter with the sodas and then skulls was a bit hard to grasp at first. I thought I had to use the sodas.

Audio-wise, it's all very fitting. The car could make some more noises, like when you go rear. One thing I'd nit pick on, and that's mostly me, the relief sound right after you go into a shop triggered my misophonia. It hindered my enjoyment just a little, but that's me.

The controls are fine, I just wish the package delivering could be a tad more forgiving, many times I was very close to the delivery area and the package would land almost there, but not quite. So I had to run over it in hopes that worked. Perhaps a mini map could be helpful also! In case you decide to expand on the idea.

All in all, really neat that you added all these mechanics and it feels quite tense and hectic. Congratulations!

geck0 2023-05-09 00:38

At first I was confused about the red and green arrows. And, at the beginning, I thought the camera was weird, but wow! It's the cabin! I like the mechanic of throwing packages out of the window from the cabin! And sorry for the environment, but I also had to throw garbage >_<

Good job!

sarah-alexa 2023-05-09 01:19

@dxk2294 Thank you! The difficulty experience is awesome to hear, hopefully the last one didn't take too many tries to finish! It's tough balancing that in a jam!

@aivaxela This calls for more litter! Thank you so much for all of that. Bumpin is exactly what I wanted from the music!! If I had more time or if I resubscribe to Construct I was thinking of maybe doing an endless mode, some challenges like you mentioned or even things like specific packages being delivered to specific places. One thing I'm sad I didn't get to implement was rubbish disposal zones! You can see the concept was there at the end of the street you spawn in on the right side on the ground with some left over 2D art!

@arsher I did consider that, it ultimately came down to theme over the camera angle there. I considered a first person camera on the lorry briefly but I feel that would have gone a little wrong haha.

@automatonvx The physics when throwing out of the window are intentionally a little random. They'll go vaguely in the direction you throw them in to add to the theme of frantically throwing stuff out the window of a moving van. The engine doesn't support 3D physics so I essentially had to manually code stuff in and randomise a few things just to add a little character to it. Main thing is throw em out like crazy!

For the hunger though, there's 3 shops in the city and the green arrow will point to the nearest one. You can go as far as you like until it tells you to go to the shop in which case it's best to zoom to one if you aren't next to a delivery zone. There is a period where when you have no bottles it just shows skulls to hopefully allow for those last second refills. If I return to it at some point I'd probably make the earlier levels have an additional shop and extend the hunger meter a little more to make it a little less stressful.

I appreciate the feedback and you giving it a good go, thank you! I'm glad you liked the visuals and music!

@niz You were right with the arrows only they relate to the side they pop out of relative to the lorry itself. I appreciate the feedback. If I was to ever to return to it I'll definitely take a bunch of it on board. The misophonia issue hadn't occurred to me so I'd probably have it as an accessibility option alongside some QoL stuff.

@geck0 Littering?? Disgraceful! Shameful! Scandalous! Glad you enjoyed it thank you!

madbarron 2023-05-09 01:34

Finally, a straightforward, realistic delivery sim. It's great! I had a hard time keeping an eye on the squanch levels. The best part is probably getting to say "crisps". The most frustrating part was the physics of the boxes leaving the window not behaving like I expected/running into other packages that also missed the houses.

Very creative and fun. Thanks for the game!

digital-bacon 2023-05-09 11:34

Nice game! Controls for delivering packages were a bit fiddly. Loved the graphics and gameplay. Excellent work!

radgegames 2023-05-09 13:12

Fantastic job, loved the art style and gameplay, the music was a bop for sure and I love the sort of 2.5d approach. I think it might have changed the pace if instead of having to drag the package on top of the arrow I could just click the arrow to pop out a package, but I really liked how the game fit with the theme! Good entry!

robowarrior1982 2023-05-09 17:44

Very good job ! I like the use of the GUI to drop package and the physics apply to them, it's fun. I was confused the first time because i tried to drag and drop directly on the house, after reading the tutorial i understood that i need to drop on the arrow. May be you can find another icon for that. The 3d graphics is simple and clear the drive of the truck is easy but not really use physics (truck is heavier to drive), maybe you can improve this too. And we can deliver every package in any house ? Maybe you can limit house to specific delivery, that can make the game more interesting !

sarah-alexa 2023-05-09 21:55

@madbarron Only the most realistic delivery sims here!

sarah-alexa 2023-05-09 22:06

@radgegames Thank you! I did explore simple options but it just didn't feel like there was any character with pressing a button as opposed to lobbing them out in a drive by and dropping packages like crazy in later levels! You can avoid dragging them past the arrows though, if you let the mouse button go mid motion, you'll throw the packages!

sarah-alexa 2023-05-09 22:23

@robowarrior1982 The arrows aren't to drop on but to indicate where to throw or place the packages, if you let go of the mouse button mid motion you'll throw them. The lorry does use 2D physics but I wanted some weight to it. In the original version there was more weight to it and the lorry was composed of the cabin and box as 2 separate items joined to each other but there were a few issues with reversing and if the player for whatever reason decided to do doughnuts, some weird stuff happened!

If I was to continue work on it again at some point or remake it in another engine, my plan would be for different delivery points and for zones to be dynamic with rules so they could appear anywhere outside of a minimum range!

Thank you for playing!

zgragselus 2023-05-10 02:15

It's kind of hilarious to look at how packages and food trashes the screen, while trying to drive to deliver next package. Was definitely a fun. Time kept the pressure, and so did the hunger - it had a fast pace.

I had slight troubles driving - it was arcade-ish though, so not really getting stuck too much.

For a jam game, this is also well polished.

Keep up the good work!

paul-avallone 2023-05-12 06:35

Really creative game. The windshield filling up with boxing rattling around blocking your view is such a great idea. Good job on the physics. I loved the food mechanic getting in the way of your deliveries. Throwing out the packages left or right both seemed to work. I was unsure if you were only supposed to throw right when the stop was on your right. Same with left. I would be nice if the packages were labeled for specific locations. The camera movement worked very well. Driving felt good though I wish there was a break button that was separate from reverse. Art style is simple yet charming. Music and sound effects worked well. As for the title of your game, great minds think alike. Fantastic job!

python-b5 2023-05-14 07:05

Very frantic, I like it. The method of control is very unique and works well. It's cool how the packages obstruct your vision, so if garbage starts to stack up you need to get rid of it. The music is great too. The camera occasionally suddenly snapped to the other side of me which was sort of disorienting. Overall though, this is a great entry :)

jhax 2023-05-14 19:08

Really well put together entry! The graphics and music create a really coherent vibe. The managing your screen space mechanic does a great job of ramping up the tension and difficulty as you play through the levels as well!

jiexdrop 2023-05-17 15:34

The game and the controls feel smooth. I enjoyed attention to detail for the jokes! I didn't know Construct was capable of making 3D games. It reminded me of Crazy Taxi! It's a Crazy Delivery ^^ Good job!

sarah-alexa 2023-05-21 20:48

@zgragselus @paul-avallone @python-b5 @jhax @jiexdrop

Thank you all so much for the kind words!! I’d been away from here for a week ish to focus on some other stuff so this was really nice to come back to!

Makes me kind of want to stick with the project or revisit the idea!
