LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Stormlight Manor by RogueBrain 2022-10-05T12:45:24Z

@makemakemake just out of curiosity how far did you get? We tried to make worlds of 3 levels each that were coherent with each other, so if you felt that the first three levels were very similar I can understand that. If you felt that they all were too similar, we'd love that feedback, as we tried to make the level sets have unique mechanics and layouts.

Stormlight Manor by RogueBrain 2022-10-05T12:47:33Z

@nyxkn As we work on the game more, difficulty and repetitiveness of redoing a long level if you die at the end are important things we've gotten a lot of feedback on. We did not have a lot of time to balance, but moving forward we're going to try to implement things like temporary checkpoints to prevent you from having to repeat a whole level if you die.

@makemakemake You can use the level select to skip to later stages of each world, like seeing 3-1, 4-1, and 5-1. Each first level of a world serves to teach about its gimmick, and so by the third level the mazes can be pretty challenging.

@alaah Thanks for pointing this out, I'll try to look into it more, but was there anything else notable happening when you died? Or was this the second or third time dying on that level, as opposed to the first? Bugs like this can be hard to squash without knowing exactly how to replicate them.

@automatonvx So glad you enjoyed it, and thank you for the feedback on window resolutions. We are going to work to make sure the game is playable at different resolutions, likely by downscaling to the closest one that still achieves our intended aspect ratio.

Stormlight Manor by RogueBrain 2022-10-13T23:11:12Z

@jag Thanks for the feedback! We wanted to go for a sort of ramping difficulty and use earlier levels to introduce mechanics before adding to them later on. We're currently working on adding even more levels and characters to create a greater variety and tougher challenges.

The Lamplighter by SelkieHarbour 2022-10-04T16:16:36Z

I like the mood of the game. It's a cool idea having a lantern on a timer and using it to light up the path. The atmosphere has good storytelling, but the gameplay is a little repetitive and overall pretty easy.

Very cool game idea! We also made a game that experiments with light every 10 seconds, we'd love for you to check it out! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/51/stormlight-manor

LD53 — Delivery

Overtime at the Tetromino Factory by Tim Sims 2023-05-02T14:12:25Z

Cool idea for multitasking two things at once, but both tasks are pretty one-dimensional. It's easy to let the tetris blocks fall very slowly without worrying about them, and assembling tetrominoes you can basically make only lines if you want to. I think this game could use some sort of pressuring mechanic, like you have to meet quotas of certain types of blocks. I also felt like the notes broke the flow of the game. But cool idea and good job!

The Ferryman by Lomby 2023-05-08T20:59:34Z

Very bold doing a point-and-click adventure for a jam, and this manages to evoke a lot of mood and atmosphere with what is available. As you said it's a shame you didn't get to implement more, as what you have is pretty cool so far. I didn't love that the game ended when I got to the ferryman without the coin, it felt like the kind of thing I should have just been able to keep looking for after meeting him.

Fed Up Delivery by Sarah Alexa 2023-05-08T21:08:24Z

Our game has the same name! I like the use of perspective where it looks like you are looking through the truck as you drive around and throw the boxes. The boxes are a little finnicky, it's not easy telling where they are going to land when you throw them. I also couldn't really understand what qualified as an "oopsie". Very cool game!

@pralista If you hand them a package that fits their hints so far then they immediately give another hint. If it doesn't match, though, they'll just say it's wrong.

@saryah Thank you for the feedback, one of the things we learned this jam is that audio mixing is apparently very different in webgl than in an .exe build. We're glad you liked the voice acting nevertheless!

@frocto Thanks for the feedback, size was one of the trickier things to balance out in the time frame. It was tough making the sizes distinguishable but also fun; too big and too small were tricky to balance. Especially with the envelopes, the small ones are nearly microscopic haha

FedUp by RogueBrain 2023-05-03T19:28:32Z

@herryfabien Thanks for the feedback, we wanted to juggle the combination of helpful hints and useless ones to evoke a feeling of hectic chaos and frustration, while still being fun. I think if we were to update it we would keep some parameters at a minimum, like always having at least two colors or shapes.

FedUp by RogueBrain 2023-05-03T19:29:17Z

@ardorugus Did you see all 4 characters? We have gotten feedback that some people would like for the characters to change over the course of one run.

FedUp by RogueBrain 2023-05-03T21:11:01Z

@ardorugus That makes sense. I'm considering pushing an update after the jam including an endless mode we didn't have time to include, which would feature all 4 characters. It would be similar to the current mode but every time you deliver a package you would gain a little extra time.

@alanxoc3 I can't think of a better compliment than "I played your game multiple times so it could insult me more" haha. I'm so glad you liked it

FedUp by RogueBrain 2023-05-10T15:05:33Z

@sarah-alexa We definitely tried to evoke a feeling of chaos and clutter, so I'm glad we accomplished that where it sometimes felt like a lot and packages weren't always easy to find. We could have made our messaging more clear so that it felt intentional rather than buggy. Glad you enjoyed it!
