Love it, the sound really adds to the atmosphere of the boss battle. How did you make the sheep sounds? lol

rickylee 2022-04-04 21:33

Sweet small game! Wish it was a bit longer, but when DLAY is full DLAY is full, don't question it :')

binaryprinciple 2022-04-04 22:42

@squaxcom Thanks! oh, let's say it was a weird weekend. @mook Thanks for the feedback! Yeah, DLAY is not fooling around, I thought on adding extra levels, but I heard and advise from Vimlark that recommended short and sweet experiences, since people will be testing multiple games. I can add more levels to it, maybe I should post LD.

nima 2022-04-05 00:00

Rip the sheep, they were good sacrifices. Great job with the game. I enjoyed playing it

binaryprinciple 2022-04-05 00:07

@nima Glad you liked it! A minute of silence for those brave sheeps bravely sacrificed by the brave Shaman.

marc-grabow 2022-04-05 15:27

Lol @ the title "DLAY"! :)

Screenshot 2022-04-05 232355.png

Nice little game, I especially liked the sound and overall look. The controls where good but I think you could add more "game feel" if you'd make throwing the sheep physics-based (that would make it much harder of course, so you'd need to scale down how much health one sheep takes away from DLAY).

smiley 2022-04-05 15:32

"You defeated DLAY". yay \o/

nice and quick game with nice sound effects. The drums music reminds me of the PvP music in World of Warcraft vanilla.

purpledartfrog 2022-04-05 16:08

Very nice tiki there  Maybe a bit easy - but sometimes that's good for a jam entry  at least easy when I discovered I didn't need to aim the throw

Good job :thumbsup_tone1:

13x666 2022-04-05 16:46

The game is perhaps a little too easy... but! The grab-n-throw mechanic feels so nice for some reason. Maybe it's because you just feel like a badass baller hitting the ring perfectly with every throw without a second thought. This feeling of easily doing things that are usually difficult is a great satisfaction generator, and you captured it here.

binaryprinciple 2022-04-06 14:25

@marc-grabow DLAY, I bend that so far, LOL. I thought about it a lot, I wanted to have it physics based for destruction only, like having characters explode on sacrifice, but time was short, nonentheless I thought that keeping the aiming out of the game make it faster and more friendly.

@smiley Thanks! That music was key, was on it felt so different.

@purpledartfrog Glad you liked it! Yeah, maybe aiming could been "Hard Mode".

@13x666 Wow! Thanks for the compliments! It's always hard to know if you are doing something right, I knew I wanted weight in the parabol and keep the player from thinking about aiming when facing DLAY. Thanks! Seemed to be a good decision.

jeffrey-hwang 2022-04-06 20:23

PRmIqEP.png The game play was simple and I loved it! Music was nice and it did feel like inevitable was near. Took me 2 tries to beat the boss. I wasn't too sure what the ground crack do, but over all I loved it! Loved the baahh sound when sacrificing sheeps too.

ardakrkz 2022-04-06 20:52

Cool core concept! Would like to see finished version mixed with an interesting survival/Base builder game maybe?

daniel-mak 2022-04-07 04:00

The game is definitely a bit too easy for my taste, but it is well polished, and great scope for a short term project!

pdotjpg 2022-04-07 10:34

Ha, funny take on the theme. I agree with other that this is really well-scoped for the compo. The throw feels satisfying, and the game in general is pretty polished. Movement felt a bit slippery/sluggish to start but I got used to it. Nice job!

vidu 2022-04-07 15:10

Very simple and effective game. Lovely graphics 💙

studio-vykanic 2022-04-07 17:12

Great game! I enjoyed the visuals you put together for it!

his-games 2022-04-08 05:45

Short, but very fun! I really enjoyed sending sheep to their doom. It was missing some critical polish in places, but overall felt solid, and the modelling and music is good. Definitely add more content to this, more phases, and maybe types of sheep the god doesn't like, so you have to be wary as to what you choose. I find it ironic that I also made a game about sacrificing sheep to your god too! From a fellow sheep-sacrificing developer, good job!

shreemp 2022-04-08 06:18

wish it were longer because the concept was neat! i also realized mid-way through that you don't *have* to be right next to the pipe/boss to throw in the sheeps

jzucc12 2022-04-08 18:05

I had an issue where sometimes it wouldn't let me pick up the sheep. Other than that, it was a fun time. Good job.

wouter52 2022-04-08 18:52

Short sweet and chaotic, love it! The graphics are nice and the music fits your game very well! A view thoughts:

- are there diffrences between colored sheep? - the way that you don't have to worry about angle and valocity while throwing makes the game more fun, but it could also become a bit repetitive. Maybe the game would have benefitted from those mechanics (so you would have to aim) - I like how the controls are layed out and that you have gamepad support built in!

mathglo 2022-04-09 22:36

I love this simple but really well made game! The sheep sound really made me laugh. If I would of change something, probably that we would have to aim to shot the sheeps. Overall, really loved it !

binaryprinciple 2022-04-13 01:34

@jeffrey-hwang Glad you had fun! I enjoy hearing that DLAY was a worthy oponent, I hope the battle was legendary!

@ardakrkz Thanks! Mmm that is interesting, a build survival game, what do you suggest?

@daniel-mak Appreciate it. Time has always been my biggest challenge. After playing your game I understand why you feel it easy. It was something I did to help people going through it without frustration, since we are testing a lot of games. A recomendation from Vimlark.

@pdotjpg Thanks! Glad you like it! Yeah, calibrating the movement feeling was a bit tricky. Initially I set it up to aim, or throw in specific points, but it added some difficulty that might felt a bit too much. So, keeping it simple was the answer.

@vidu Thanks! Very humble to hear that you liked the graphics, your game looks amazing!

@studio-vykanic Thanks! Glad you liked it.

@his-games Hello fellow worshipper and sacrificer, great minds thinks alike I guess. Glad you enjoyed it. Initially I was going to use exploding villagers but time was running out and maybe it would be some dissonance with the look and feel of the game. Also I was going to add some mini gods that if sacrificed would help DLAY recover health.

@shreemp Wow! Glad to hear you wanted to play more of it! Thanks again. I put and area that you had to be in in order to throw the sheep but it hurt the flow of the game and that nice feeling of never missing.

@jzucc12 Oh, that bug! I got it while testing. It was not cleaning the player status from Holding to Free, so it thinks is holding something. I put a line to force clean it, mmm something might happen.

@wouter52 Glad you loved it! My messy crazy sheeping game. Some answers here:

- Yes, they are golden and white sheeps. Golden one hit DLAY harder and gain you one heart. White ones, just hit DLAy. - I enjoyed watching LD devlogs and one of them is Vimlark. He recommended to short the difficulty by half since you are testing the game constantly, in theory you are the best player, and a very difficult game would prevent others from completing it, since you have to test plenty of them. Initially I wanted to aim but it felt more tasty just to be able to alway hit the spot, so I moved to have to throw while you are inside a specific area, it's in the game but it felt a bit too punishing, maybe it can become another gamemode. - Thanks! It's always challenging to try to add multiple controllers support, glad it translated well.

@mathglo Thanks! Glad you loved it! I will have to setup aiming for the next, maybe as an option so you can chose your "difficulty".

kimberly 2022-04-13 02:54

Great little short game. Accidentally skipped the victory screen, so I thought I might as well play a second time. Would've liked to see some more feedback when getting hit, but I suppose that might've just been one of those things that didn't quite make the cut due to time constraints.

A random note on how you could experiment with this. You could easily tweak some numbers to increase the speed of the game, add more sheep (but make them deal less damage). As long as the sound effects don't overlap too much, the added speed and chaos should be add a great deal of fun.

aldebaram 2022-04-13 03:36

The boss, art and sounds were amazing. But I think the game could be a little more difficult, maybe decreasing the damage that the sheep do in the final phase or with more difficult attacks to dodge.

wouter52 2022-04-13 06:40

@binaryprinciple Ah yeah! I remember his advise! I like to see Vimlark too, he has a bit of a gamejam addiction, so that makes his advise even better! Sadly I ignored his advise a bit this year, my game seems a bit hard

Thanks for your explanation! I see now that you literally explain right below the game what golden sheep do ^^"

binaryprinciple 2022-04-13 14:02

@wouter52 Vimlark had a bit of an issue with game jams, but at least he shares LOL. Your game is really fun and challenging I like that take on endless runner with horror and a chance to defend yourself.

Np, I added the golden sheep tip in the tutorial but maybe I could add an extra icon or something to make more visible.

binaryprinciple 2022-04-13 16:18

@aldebaram Thanks! Good idea, maybe make it recover health as part of it's attack cycle.

binaryprinciple 2022-04-13 16:23

@kimberly Glad you liked it! Nice feedback and ideas. I setup a random between two points for sheep spawning and attack frequency, but I agree that this game will benefit from a bit of chaos and extra rush. Agree too on adding more damage feedback when you are hit with a higher pitch to make it easier to ear.

vixenmink 2022-04-13 18:48

All hail DLAY!

Very nice concept. I liked the sounds and the mood of the game

- Possibly choose another key on the keyboard besides the space bar for interactions. F is pretty quick if it must be the left hand. - Maybe add in graphics of the island being destroyed by DLAY as an effect

Great job

binaryprinciple 2022-04-13 22:40

@vixenmink Glad you liked it! Key binding, that's a good idea, not sure how to do it on HTML5 but will find a way and having the island explore would have been a nice touch. Thanks for the feedback.

hawkin 2022-04-14 00:25

This was a fun one! The sheep throwing mechanic was very clean. It didn't take much skill (making the shot seemed automatic), but that was preferred once DLay started attacking! I think the final battle could have lasted a little longer, because it was fun once he started showing all his attacks!

The models also looked very good, and I think you put good effort into the sound design! Overall excellent entry!

yamaisiukdranko 2022-04-15 05:59

This is very fun and innovational!

ronanrory 2022-04-15 06:06

I guess that's one was to innovate! And a particularly hilarious way as well! The game's a pretty good experience, though a bit easy as you don't need to aim; I figure most everyone else had said that, so that isn't news to you. It's also a bit on the short side. The graphics and sound are nothing special, but they serve their purpose.

Cheers for managing to find a way to do the theme quite different!

boaromayox 2022-04-15 07:02

For the gameplay it's simple: the grab-and-throw idea, though not original, did make me somehow feel satisfied. Even though it wasn't intentional to make this a relaxing game at all, that feeling of lowering DLAY's health bar to zero conveyed that satisfaction. Audio's fine, especially the sheep bleating, and the Inevitable's evil laugh (MWAHAHAHA!). Graphics are also okay, and as I said before, everything in the game is easy and simple to understand. One particular I did like is the UI, font and icons are clear and readable.

For one critique, I feel like you could have done more with the background to make the game look more immersive. Plus, I don't know if this could count as a critique, but as many others have said in this section, it does feel easy.

Good job!

bernhard 2022-04-15 15:16

Hooray, I freed the island! Nice short game with a decent challenge but nothing too crazy. Games where I can win can never be bad, can they? A tiny bit more gameplay would have been appreciated, maybe the lava tiles stay or fall away to increase the challenge a bit. Or have the option to use a sheep to "fix" a lava tile so there needs to be a bit more strategy then just mashing spacebar. Nevertheless what is there is fun and complete and the drumming beat is pretty sweet, too. And who doesn't like throwing a few sheep at some laughing devil bucket face thing??

sarah-alexa 2022-04-15 18:41

This was great! I love the music, it's intense and give the game a great atmosphere. Visually, everything is easy to see and work out, I liked the style too. The gameplay loop was very fun, this is something I feel would do well turned into a full level based game. It feels frantic yet relaxing to play at the same time. A very fun gameplay loop that makes for fun repeated gameplay.

Working the stages into the final boss fight was a nice touch, it felt like it rewards playing better beforehand but not punishing if you struggled.

Overall, great job on this. I'd love to see more!

link270 2022-04-16 05:54

It was really short and extremely easy. Especially when we saw you don't have to aim, just press spacebar. haha Nice work though, music was pretty good.

black-flag 2022-04-16 14:42

Fun gameplay loop and I especially like the animation of throwing the sheep perfectly each time, very satisfying! The graphics were nice and the background music also worked well too! The game felt quite easy and could have maybe done with some counterpoint gameplay mechanic to throwing in the sheep to add some more strategy. Overall, the gameplay loop was very fun and it felt well polished!

coderaurus 2022-04-17 07:00

I like the design of the take away cup deity. Graphics are quite nice overall, actually. Love the drums. I only checked the controls from description and assumed golden sheep doing extra damage, didn't realize they heal :D One thing to consider, in my opinion, is giving feedback when taking damage. Without it you can end up dead without knowing it.

Good job!

binaryprinciple 2022-04-19 03:43

@hawkin Glad you liked it! Yeah, I think I might made it a bit too easy, and having the shaman to throw with aim was something I consider quite a bit, and like you said, I came to the conclusion that it would have been a bit frustraing on the final boss.

@yamaisiukdranko Thanks! Glad you had fun with it.

@ronanrory Thanks! I tried to learn from my previous mistakes and make an easier to complete game with some personality. I though of adding dialog, and let my sarcasm shine, but time ran out.

@boaromayox Thanks for noticing the UI, I honestly work hard on it, how to make it easier to read and cleaner. Agree on adding some background effect and have an extra level of animation. Still thanks and glad you enjoyed it.

@bernhard OHhhhh, sheep builders that fixes tiles? I love it! Glad you had fun and appreciate the evil laugh.

@sarah-alexa Wow! That's a very high praise, thanks! Glad you noticed something, been able to reduce DLAY health prior the battle. It was something I wanted to implement and motivate you to get as many sheep as possible since his hunger would be less. It's the second time I try some type of boss attack cycle. Glad to hear it worked.

@link270 Np, yeah, that was on me, wanted to make something you can easily test and play, I was concern it might be to long or boring if delay's health was too big.

@black-flag Thanks! Originally I was going to have a mechanic that you can only throw sheeps from certain points... I think I might use that for later gamejams.

@coderaurus Agree, I don't know why I forgot to add the hurt sound and animation to the player healthbar. I'm glad you like my attemps at blender :D

oadt 2022-04-19 17:27

The music is great and the sound effects are even better  The gameplay is simple but actually pretty fun.

Maybe the ending is a bit anticlimactic, it would have been super cool if you could incorporate some kind of surprise at the ending. Just some kind of short death animation (by that I mean: suddenly stop the music, slowly scale DLAY to factor 0 while at the same time rotating him around some axis and playing another one of you fantastic sound effects) would already enhance the game. But still cool entry! That was just something that spontaneously came into my mind while playing the game

jackaljk 2022-04-20 20:28

Nice concept and nice worplay on the god's name! The gameplay is fun and solid, tho it's missing much game juice, including a satisfying death animation. I wonder why you've decided to use a hole in the first half rather than a non-hostile version of the god, he looks really cool so he deserved more screen time. Nice game anyway, good job!

binaryprinciple 2022-04-21 16:11

@oadtG Glad you had fun with it. That's a nice proposal, sounds quite cinematic, lower the light, desaturate the screen let DLAY had his big fall.

@jackaljk Agree, more juice is needed, but I was running out of time; fun fact. We had elections in Costa Rica that very same Sunday, so... Still agree that needs better player feedback. About the hole, it was supposed to be like a sacrificial volcano, but then I thought that it should be the top of DLAY hiding, my wife recommended an animation and shaking of DLAY coming out of the ground. I think you both are on the right track.

thecritterscove 2022-04-21 18:22

Very well polished game! Only issue I noticed is that sometimes the icon to grab a sheep would show even if it was just a bit out of range. Otherwise every seemed to work as intended. Fun little game and well balanced.

binaryprinciple 2022-04-21 22:42

@thecritterscove thanks! Must be a small bug in the grab and throw state; I will sort it out.
