I enjoyed the humor and world map screen, but the gameplay seemed too easy. Even on hard difficulty, I was finishing fights in seconds because the airstrike attack(s) do so much damage that your units just have to clean up the rest. Unit placement didn't matter much since all of the units are melee. By the end, I didn't bother anymore since placing the units took longer than the fight itself.

My plan was to add more types of units and then to adjust the difficulty. But there was too many things to do, so I chose to focus on adding features instead of adding more units and balancing the difficulty. Another thing I had in mind was to add shops on the map to buy units with money earned by fighting. So you can choose how you want to build your army.

This game was really great!

I like the concept!

Wow, this was a lot better than I expected from the screenshots. The idea for the gameplay is great. Wish I understood better how I should position my characters. And obviously the graphics could be better.

please dude separate files for each of these things!

ciderpunk 2023-05-02 22:41

nice game, and impressive for a compo entry! hard mode was a bit brutal :)

cosmogonicfrog 2023-05-04 20:48

A lot of features in there and the concept is cool! Like @zungryware, I also found the abilities a bit too powerful but that just takes some tweaking of the numbers. Looks like you've got a good base here to make something really interesting. Good work!

I agree with the other commenters on enemy placement - my personal strategy was to stack all allies in a single group so they would rip the nearest opponent to shreds and take on the rest of the enemies as one big wave. Maybe having individual tiles spread around the map for units rather than large zones would help with the strategy element? Another minor complaint is the "move to next location" sound is WAY too loud and made me turn the volume way down. Pas si mal pour un jeu fait en 48h ;)

Thanks for the advices and sorry for the unbalanced sound volume.

Merci ;)

Cool concept! I can tell you put a lot of effort into the mechanics. It feels it bit too easy with the bomb and airstrike, even in hard mode. Great for a LD game

Concept is cool and I like the map and the progression. I wish the fights were a little less about spamming the attack and instead ordering units around. Nice work!

Nice & cool, I like the simple graphics and the hard mode

hugetube 2023-05-07 16:12

This one was really good I can see this as a full game if polished!

island-jam-2-group-3 2023-05-07 18:02

As someone pointed out, the airstrike is OP xD Nice entry, congrats!

Had a lot of fun with this game! Even though the models are very basic and the sound effect too, it doesn't matter. It's fun to build up your army and watch them rush the enemies. The level map where you choose your path is a nice addition.

The easy and medium modes are far too easy and battles were won in less than a few seconds. The hard difficulty was great though, because then you have to actually think how to position your fighters for the optimal outcome.

The skills you can use in a battle are great, because you're not simply an observer. The bomb and airstrike were sometimes hard to target though.

All in all a very enjoyable game. Good job!

I quite enjoyed this! The difficulty does quickly start to get quite low quite fast but I don't think that's a bad thing, I got a good sense of scaling quickly and it encouraged looking at towns. I like exploring the world map and then positioning units for an almost battle sim style of gameplay and the abilities were a nice touch for staying involved!

If you kept working on this it would be fun seeing where it goes!
