The artwork is amazing for a compo game. Nice job

pinkemma 2022-10-03 03:15

Great graphics and audio! But I failed to see how I was progressing, was there a goal to aim towards? There was what looked like a boss that I shot a bunch but never seemed to kill.

vhalenn 2022-10-03 06:42

@tengusheath Thank you ! :)

@pinkemma Thanks for your review ! I wanted to display this better but you can see your "room number" at the top of the screen, the boss can be killed because it doesn't regen between your teleportation if you kill him it will become a secondary regen point, but probably that the game is too easy and can continue indefinitely if you do so !

harry-alissavakis 2022-10-03 08:22

Awesome work! Really liked the graphics and the audio, and it was an overall fun game! I did get a bit confused by the UI elements before I realized they all serve as a count-down, and I wasn't very sure as to where my HP was shown, but other than that it was a pretty nice entry! Nice job =]

vhalenn 2022-10-03 09:57

@harry-alissavakis Thank you a lot for your comment ! This is the things I wanted to do, displaying timers only after the first "Zapp" ! But I was way too short on time, my scope was way too big for a solo 48h jam !

jim-jagers 2022-10-03 10:22

Very nicely styled game. I was a bit confused in the beginning but ended up having alot of fun. I wish there was a bit more feedback when you kill an enemy though but thats just a small nitpick of mine

senso 2022-10-03 10:32

Verry nice art and sound in this game. The athmosphere feels realy good in ths game. Impressive work here within 48 Hours.

vhalenn 2022-10-03 10:38

@jim-jagers Thank you ! I really needed to add Particles and Fx yes this is one the most needed things but I was really short on time at the end ! I should've done that the first day !

@senso Thanks ! :smile:

castitatis 2022-10-03 12:00

such a nice game, graphics, audio, gameplay, everything is so well made!

vhalenn 2022-10-03 13:07

@castitatis Thank you so much ! :slight_smile:

brusnika 2022-10-03 13:54

decent graphic and sounds! there was something about 50 rooms at the beginning, but after 52 rooms I've seen no progress at gameplay, was hoping to see the final :) Simple ai and weapons, pretty good for compo, great job.

ani 2022-10-03 14:21

Very polished game for the compo! I was also a bit confused with the multiple UI countdowns at first but didn't detract from the fun. Great work!

henrik-ganard 2022-10-03 14:42

This game is really beautiful and I liked the feeling but I felt lost. I zapped around but didn't have anything to do in some areas. The game was a great deal of fun though.

xorel 2022-10-03 16:35

Really liked the artwork and atmosphere! Cool idea with having to teleport around, and I enjoyed the bit of grace period where you can stay while the screen starts burning away as a visual reminder to zapp

vhalenn 2022-10-03 19:04

@brusnika Oh congratulations for reaching this ! But as long as you are zapping the "basic evaluation" doesn't matter anymore, I am sorry tho I didn't had time to add a victory condition so this is just an inifite scoring game but the difficulty is probably too easy because the armor packs and life respawn

vhalenn 2022-10-03 19:05

@henrik-ganard Thank you for your review ! Some arenas are just here to regen and rest so you don't have to fight 100% of time.

vhalenn 2022-10-03 19:06

@xorel Thank you for your review ! I am really glad you appreciate those visual effects when zapping that took me so long to do !

benjamin-halko 2022-10-03 19:13

The graphics in this game are amazing!

vhalenn 2022-10-03 19:45

@benjamin-halko Thank you !!! :sparkles:

soul-grinder 2022-10-03 19:49

Was fun to play, cool colourful special FX arena shooter with some nice Tron vibes to it. Nice work and good luck for the Compo!

slush 2022-10-03 19:51

Really cool darkness effect

peter-jonsson 2022-10-03 20:17

Wow, this game is stunning and really enjoyable. Well done!

vhalenn 2022-10-03 20:38

@soul-grinder Thank you ! It wasn't really intended but in the end the basic 3D style looks close !

@slush Thank you ! I am glad you liked it !

@peter-jonsson Thank you very mutch !

usenrame 2022-10-03 23:38

Impressive for the compo, but did not get the point. Still game is very beautiful!

rubentipparach 2022-10-04 00:02

This had such a cool art style! like many said, progression and goals are kind of confusing to me. Overall though, I think it is a great entry

frib 2022-10-04 03:33

I wasn't sure what the goal was, other than to zap around after 10 sec and (re)visit rooms. It all felt a bit too random and I couldn't see a goal to work towards. So, as a game, it fell a bit flat from that perspective. But the aesthetics and mood are top notch, a lot of care and polish went into that and I really enjoyed it!

matt-green 2022-10-04 05:35

What a beautiful, confusing game! I had no idea what was happening at any given time. Was I damaging the enemies? Why did my weapon keep changing? What were those crystals I was picking up.

That said, I played for 16 levels because the controls were so smooth and the game was so pretty. I hoped I would figure it out before I won/lost but I also wasn't sure how to do that.

You have an incredible kernel of a game here and its clear you have a talent for ambience and graphics! Keep up the good work

vhalenn 2022-10-04 07:40

@matt-green @frib @rubentipparach Thank you for your reviews ! Yes this is really the point to improve I know I got too ambitious on levels and weapons when the victory/game over is not clear. For the victory this is just scoring, you can see your room number at the top of the screen and for the loose this is just going back to the menuu screen. Sorry for that

zakroutil 2022-10-04 07:49

The visual style and the atmosphere of this game are spot on! The gameplay is smooth and fun, even though I have no idea what is going on or what my goal is :D Overall very impressive entry!

pusheeneiro 2022-10-04 08:28

Wow, the mix of music and shooting sounds are great.

vhalenn 2022-10-04 08:48

@zakroutil @pusheeneiro Thank you for your reviews !

teddyreid 2022-10-04 09:03

Great graphics. I love the UI elements and the sort of "warping" effect around them.

Soundtrack was really good. The distorted synth that plays when you persist in a level longer than 10 seconds is highly stress inducing which is a nice touch.

Controls felt pretty good too. The weapon that shoots blue flame is extremely satisfying, especially if you've been stuck with the "sniper" one for a few rounds that requires far more precision than my aim can provide :D

I also found a bug! [You can escape from one of the arenas and wander off :D](https://i.imgur.com/BUlHs9c.png)

ikvelibrium 2022-10-04 09:03

I like visual and shooting is cool

m0dsat 2022-10-04 09:05

Audio in particular was nice. Graphics as well. I have it to 42 rooms before loosing sight of the goal. Not really sure what I was supposed to, but once in a while I got a gun that could autofire blue balls. Those were fun :) Thanks for the game.

matt-ravenhall 2022-10-04 09:07

Really nice look and feel, not clear what the end goal is and I couldn't figure out why my gun type kept switching. Really nice overall.

kromeboy 2022-10-04 09:12

Great artwork and lighting. Music is also very good.

madhumster 2022-10-04 09:13

Loved the audio and lighting. Controls where smooth too. What was the end goal? Going through as many rooms as possible? And how is weapon selected?

gotanod 2022-10-04 09:19

Great game. the models, the effects are very good. Switching between areas is smooth and clear. Well done!

waterfowler 2022-10-04 09:34

Very nice effects, graphics, and I particularly like the music, it fits the theme and mood very well. The level progression felt a bit confusing, wasn't sure I was really making progress, felt a bit random, but still played for about 15 levels because the game looked and felt really nice and I was curious what the next weapon would be. Solid entry!

kimmyx47 2022-10-04 09:40

Great vfx and controls felt really smooth. As everyone says I also was a little confused about the UI and I took time to understand how I was progressing in the game. Also I love how the music serves as feedback to know when you can advance to the next room!

flaterectomy 2022-10-04 10:13

The game looks pretty great, the glow effects on the lasers/orbs really sold it. The design of the robots also looked solid, and the music was a nice subdued but thumping backdrop. The audio indicating the time limit was approaching was helpful, but I did noticed it kept going while I paused the game, so it was stuck on the end of the stress-build-up loop after I unpaused. Not a big deal at all, but I figured I'd let you know.

My main issue was with the (lack of) difficulty of the game. I think I may have taken some damage at some point, but there's plenty of health lying around (would have loved a pickup sound for this) that I never got anywhere close to dying. The big boss was easily dodged, I kinda just gave up on attacking him after a while.

I stuck around until room 54, expecting there was a goal of reaching room 50 because of the text at the start: "In this exam you will have to **survie** (typo alert, should be 'survive') to 50 rooms"

All in all it looks good, it's a solid entry! I enjoyed the different weapons (though some lag on firing them felt a little iffy at times), and you can definitely continue to develop this into a more complete game!

angrybeard 2022-10-04 10:45

very cool atmosphere and execution. i wished there was a little more hit feedback and perhaps a little more difficulty :) Perhaps dont allow the jump if there are (normal) enemies still left alive but give us a little more time instaed or someting. anyways really cool and clean game!

jeanne-rossat 2022-10-04 11:42

Really beautiful game ! The controls were simple yet effective. It was a pleasure to wander around, killing enemies ! Though I admit at was a bit confused by the Zapp mechanic You did a really good job there !~

vhalenn 2022-10-04 12:59

Thank you everyone for all your reviews that's so much !

mdotedot 2022-10-04 13:58

nice graphics: the enemies are upon me too quickly! Rest is nice! good Job!

hexyvexy 2022-10-04 14:04

Impressive, but some aspects were a little confusing. A laser sight would have helped with the aiming in a 3d space. Love the teleporting conceit though.

anstabo 2022-10-04 16:37

Really outstanding game for COMPO, the score is striking and the visuals simple but efficient. Your concept art for this game is impressive I'm gonna repost the full image that you posted in a post here for others to appreciate: 50220.png

nyxkn 2022-10-04 19:10

Yo, very pretty game. I felt like it was missing purpose. There didn't seem to be any incentive for continuing to play after having seen all the rooms and different weapons. I thought I had to kill the boss thing but he was never dying. The weapons were fun but the ones with delay were confusing at first and it seemed like the didn't do anything. Maybe firing sfx would have helped. Overall very well made game but missing purpose. Beautiful UI and loved the curved screen effect.

pier-v 2022-10-04 19:25

I can't believe you managed to create such polished and impactful visuals within the restraints of a jam, and even more so considering this game in the compo cathegory!

The jam theme is well implemented, in particular the fact that waiting too long before warping to the next room depletes your health feels like a clever nice touch. Different rooms present different challenges, and there's even a boss - big plus. It would have been cool to have the boss respawn, maybe with boosted stats every round to give a sense of impending doom haha, but the idea of having a second resting room as a reward, as you yourself wrote in description, is probably better suited for less experienced players and therefore has its advantages. Btw, I reached room 50 as I was asked in the tutorial explaination but the game just kept going: the idea of an endless progression is actually fine, but I would probably remove the "reach room 50" line to avoid confusion (that is, unless room 50 is the cake and you're quoting portal haha).

You did a really good job at differentiating all the different guns, they have a huge impact on gameplay and I had a BLAST spamming the blue one like there's no tomorrow. The slow yellow one, instead, goes in time with music which I found hilarious.

Speaking of music, it definitely fits the game atmosphere and does its job at constantly pumping you with adrenaline, but if you allow me an observation I found it a bit tiring on the ears after a while, due to repetion.

Anyway, I was pleasantly impressed overall. Good luck!

pete-thorne 2022-10-04 20:04

That was an astonishing entry with highly polished visuals and a strong concept that created a fun experience that lasted a while even on first attempt.

The experience was somewhat baffling in places as I really wasn't quite sure how to control my Zapp... and the weapons I ended up with didn't really seem to have any logical connection to what I did in the previous room.

But I really enjoyed messing about and shooting things randomly all the same!

I also loved that you managed to upload an HTML version of the game so Mac users like myself could join in the fun. Really appreciate the inclusivity there

dodidouda 2022-10-04 20:17

I kinda sucked at this game since I was playing with my laptop pad (and I prefer arrows instead of ZQSD as I'm left handed), so I didn't go very far. But I enjoyed my short experience, the mood and graphics are incredible! Good job on this one!

liii22 2022-10-04 20:23

I really like visuals here, music with VFX and overall mood - amazing! Then I saw it's a compo game and was amazed again! The only thing i was confused about-why sometime I can shoot, sometimes not, and what are the objects I'm picking rn. Maybe a small tutorial at the beginning would be helpful. But in general- I'm in love! Would definitely play a game like this in my free time- on my smartphone, for example.

olivieryc 2022-10-04 20:32

The camera shake and perspective made it feel dangerous. Awesome!

shadowbrain 2022-10-04 21:25

I made a VR conversion of this one, it's just a thing I've been doing for fun, thanks for posting the github repo!

https://github.com/ShadowBrian/LDJAM_51_TheCyberZapper_VR_Fork

https://youtu.be/OxxL61f8BOI

(The UI looks off but it's centered in VR, video only shows left eye hah)

vhalenn 2022-10-04 21:41

@shadowbrain Waow thank you this is so cool !!! Thank you for your work ! I am surprised it is playable like this because it was really not intended for this ! Maybe the UI looks off too because it is on a separate camera, but you probablty saw that. Thank you a lot !

vhalenn 2022-10-04 21:50

@dodidouda Merci beaucoup ! J'ai adoré ton jeu il est trop cool ! J'essaierai d'avoir wasd/zqsd/les flèches pour les prochaines jam !

@pete-thorne Thank you a lot !

@pier-v Thank you so much for your complete review ! I am glad you liked too the music, it was my first real song composed for a jam and I have really little experience of composition !

@liii22 Thank you ! For the time when you cannot shoot this is due to your weapon, like the sniper has some long reload time, but there is no feedback on it on ui so it is completely my fault.

phillip-scott 2022-10-04 21:56

Really cool entry - loved the vibe and the pumping music - felt a little easy - killed the big bot and the game just kept going  got to round 35 before calling it a day - well done :confetti_ball:

scidev 2022-10-04 23:15

This hast to be one of the games with some of the best graphics yet, its amazing that so much cool art was done in such a short time. Although, I'm not sure what I broke because I seemed to be stuck in an infinite loop of not being able to see and the timer counting into the negatives! Probably because it froze here: [Screenshot 2022-10-04 191428.jpg](///raw/c31/82/z/522fa.jpg).

Other than that bug, though the gameplay was quite fun!

cafebeef 2022-10-04 23:54

The graphics and art really emphasize the cyber-esque setting and really do the game a favor. And the zapping feature is an interesting new way of switching between levels. Great work!

sivam 2022-10-05 07:27

the graphics really cool and i know that japanese sentence's meaning

vhalenn 2022-10-05 13:21

@scidev Did you used the space bar to ZAPP ? Because if you never Zapp after the first room yes the game is waiting for you to understand. Thank you for your review !

krakadushka 2022-10-05 15:55

Wow, I like the graphics and gameplay! But to be honest I was waiting much more narrative because of first screens :) And there was something about 50 levels, I've survived more than 50 and nothing happens (( Or I misunderstood something? 200318764_457248853.jpg

coderaurus 2022-10-05 17:40

Visually good looking game. I would've perhaps toned the bloom down a bit, but that's just my preference. The HUD looks cool. And actually, the audio supports the aesthetic as well and is worth noting.

I was also a bit lost on what was going on and what was the goal to next level. The boss room appeared to be undefeatable every time I encountered it.

Well done!

tyrannas 2022-10-05 19:02

Great game ! Nice HUD and runs pretty smoothly, I got to say, what caught my eyes the most was the cover art haha, did you do it for the Ludum or is this some Midjourney stuff ?

david-stevenson 2022-10-05 21:36

Beautiful and smooth! Really like the transition when you wait too long to hit the space bar - it added a nice sense of urgency.

jmad 2022-10-05 22:31

Smooth and efficient. Visually stunning.

vhalenn 2022-10-06 09:36

@sivam Thank you ! Ho and by the way this sentence is not Japanese !

vhalenn 2022-10-06 09:38

@krakadushka Congratulations ! No unfortunately I didn't had time to add more "dialogue lines", but basically you were supposed to pass a test of 50 rooms, but you are not a trainee doing the test, you are Zapping/Teleporting threw rooms, I wanted to add a server to destroy among the rooms but I was really short on time. Sorry for this.

alks 2022-10-06 22:17

Very good work! Really fun to play and the game looks and feels amazing! Can not comprehend how one person can such good quality in such a short time! Good work!! :)

alks 2022-10-06 22:17

sda.JPG this is hard!but really good!(rate back!)

rickylee 2022-10-07 10:43

WOW amazing compo entry! ^^ I made it to room 32 and stopped because it seemed endless? I never managed to beat the big boy tho I tried really hard haha ^^

Seriously well done on all fronts this is amazing!

inno 2022-10-08 13:43

different from the others

chrissx2 2022-10-21 13:00

Really amazing entry especially for a compo. Love the sound and art design!

oadt 2022-10-21 19:01

Managed to get to room 40 and also killed the boss (but he didn't respawn later, don't know if this was intentional) I liked the sound, especially the sound effect when you were ready to zapp. Two small things I noticed: * Aming felt a but strange simply because of the way how 3d graphics works * The cooldown of weapons could be a bit better communicated

But still cool entry!
