LD51 — Every 10 seconds

De-Pres-ING by Bloham 2022-10-03T05:25:10Z

The clean aesthetics of this game are really nice, especially combined with the relatively straightforward gameplay. I was a little confused by how you can hold down to repair though. It seems like it only ever took a single click to repair an item. Do the later items require you to hold down longer? Or did you just want to add a cool animation? :)

TBD - Time-based disaster by Zirrrus 2022-10-03T01:43:02Z

The web version is broken for me (on Google Chrome) :(

Destroy Blocks by mdotedot 2022-10-04T05:20:32Z

I really enjoyed this! Kind of like a cool alternative to Tetris. I had some trouble with dragging blocks onto the grid, though. They didn't show up exactly under the center of my mouse color, and they looked the same color as the tiles I had already placed. I wasn't always sure where the block I was holding was going to land.

Find Ten Seconds by dhim 2022-10-04T06:23:36Z

This was great! It's nice to see a game that is different from all the rest. What game engine did you use? I think the ability to get *some* points from just about any match alleviates some of the difficulty/stress that comes with traditional matching games (which I do not personally enjoy).

Tormenting Idol by Cameron Borthwick 2022-10-04T06:05:49Z

Very spooky! I jumped when the idol got me from behind. Wish it had a bit of background music (though perhaps it is more spooky without).

The CyberZapper by Vhalenn 2022-10-04T23:54:41Z

The graphics and art really emphasize the cyber-esque setting and really do the game a favor. And the zapping feature is an interesting new way of switching between levels. Great work!

Satellite commander by Henrik Ganard 2022-10-04T05:32:46Z

I like the gameplay, feels pretty unique. Thanks for being honest that your audio was not original--but my understanding is that it's not allowed by the [rules for the Compo](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/rules). You should have submitted to the Jam instead. Anyway, I just reviewed your game as if it had no audio.

Trainz by aligator 2022-10-18T17:22:08Z

Cool idea! Seems pretty unique. I liked the graphics; the explosion effect is quite well done. I had some issues with figuring out how to play, and it seemed a bit unpolished (the direction of the trains was unclear near switches, moving around the map is slow, and the view was very zoomed-in). Overall, though, I thought it was great!

I'd really encourage you to make a web build available. The [newest release of Godot 4](https://godotengine.org/article/dev-snapshot-godot-4-0-beta-3) fixed the bug in exporting to web just three days ago! You'll just have to update to the new version of the engine, and then it should work.

Trainz by aligator 2022-10-18T20:43:01Z

@aligator Ah, it's a shame that web builds still don't export correctly. I've been trying to keep up with Godot 4 updates to see when it's viable to switch over from 3.5. Thanks for giving the web build another try.

10 Second Dating by dreamscale 2022-10-03T02:56:53Z

Cool game! I like the combination of the detective-style dialogues with the action-style aspect of trying to catch the constantly moving bubbles.

Chrono Extractors by tengusheath 2022-10-04T05:06:15Z

This game was quite fun (though very difficult)! I wasn't able to get anywhere near the base in the video you posted. It gets seriously intense about 10-20 rounds in or so (considering a round to be 10 seconds). I do wish it had a "game over" screen at the end, but I understand the difficulty adding that with such a short time limit for development.

Chrono Extractors by tengusheath 2022-10-04T05:54:48Z

@tengusheath For what it's worth, I do think this is the kind of game that it's possible to get much better at over time. I tried a second playthrough, and I got quite a bit further after I realized that the original guys you have are enough to defend your base for the first minute or two (so you can focus on resource extraction then), and that mechs actually are quite powerful.

Paper Prison by Fifut 2022-10-02T21:56:15Z

I was able to get the game to run on Google Chrome on itch.io. It's quite fun! It took me a while to realize that you can navigate the tight corridors by rotating your character. That's a cool feature I haven't seen in many other games. The difficulty scales quickly in such a small space because you always have to get back to the start to evade the guards.

I second the comment that WASD controls would be nice -- it's actually quite easy to add in Godot! I used that engine for my game too. You can go into Project->Project Settings->Input Map and add additional keys to whatever your up/down/left/right input mappings are.

Paper Prison by Fifut 2022-10-04T22:08:47Z

@fifut

> I use the arrows instead of WASD simply because keyboards layout are not the same around the world .For me (on a French keyboard layout) the keys WASD gives ZQSD.

Actually, there is a simple option in Godot that works in all keyboard layouts! If you select "physical key", and then press ZQSD on your keyboard layout, it should automatically map to WASD on mine. [Here's a quick comment about it.](https://old.reddit.com/r/godot/comments/qrpc1j/i_noticed_there_is_an_option_im_not_sure_if_its/hk80j3g/)

Bobo's Happiness Factory by DzejPi 2022-10-06T02:37:18Z

This was a great game! I thought the pace was just right. It got a bit repetitive towards the end (but I take it that's kind of the point :) ). I really liked the attention to detail with how the items get smaller when they fall off the conveyor belt.

Time To Live: 10 by Lancival 2022-10-04T05:38:40Z

I like the concept. It's an interesting way to implement a time loop that I haven't seen before. Unfortunately, I ran into a lot of collision glitches (or at least I assume they are glitches?). I would get stuck halfway down a wall if I was still moving to the side. I also couldn't figure out how to make a second cube like in the screenshot. It would have been helpful if there were more/better instructions explaining how to play.

Time To Live: 10 by Lancival 2022-10-04T05:58:54Z

@lancival Thanks for pointing that out! I didn't realize the level select would let you skip to a future level that you hadn't played yet. I tried one of the later levels and it does feel pretty innovative. But I do feel that the game is held back a bit by the bugs and unclear explanation of how to play.

Color Copy Cats by carolinewang 2022-10-04T05:42:30Z

The graphics and animations are so cute! Sadly, I had some issues with collision detection, where the cat wouldn't fall down properly if I was moving horizontally into a wall. I also ran into a weird glitch where it wouldn't pick up an item if I was already inside the shape when the cat's color changed.

Parasite Assassin by BlueDingo 2022-10-19T03:00:27Z

Nice game! The idea of being a parasite looking for the ideal host is quite cool. The way everything else is frozen reminded me of superhot. The jumping mechanic was a bit weird (I wish I could enter the new host immediately rather than waiting to fall down), and it was a bit hard to learn how to play (I originally thought I could *only* enter the target host). But overall, great game! I can't fault a game for being a bit unpolished when it was made in 72 hours.

The Gemancipator by spooncats 2022-10-03T20:43:02Z

This was a fun game! It's pretty cool how the board effectively completely changes every ten seconds, without the graphics changing at all. Quite exciting trying to click a match before the match criteria changes! Unfortunately on something like the fourth level, the game glitched and froze :(

Lighthouse by rickylee 2022-10-04T05:24:12Z

Cool concept. Loved the graphics. I did find it a bit boring while waiting for the light to come back around, though. And not being able to move the camera (at least I couldn't find any controls for it) was frustrating and lead to some glitching inside objects.

Alapai by GapaGames 2022-10-18T04:19:57Z

Cool game! The core gameplay loop was pretty tight, and I liked the industrial vibe (no other humans around -- just automated turrets and drifting balloons in a concrete prison). I do wish the arrows had a bit more contrast against the background. They could be pretty hard to see.

Birdwatching by Iguanana 2022-10-03T06:01:24Z

The birds look amazing! What software did you use to make them? The game and music are both a bit repetitive though. I wish the gameplay had a bit more complexity to it. Regardless, the bird facts at the bottom are quite cool.

One Shot Death by cafebeef 2022-10-03T02:12:11Z

@scidev I wholeheartedly agree. If I had more time, the first thing I would have done is redo the art. Any recommendations for software/tutorials for better art?

One Shot Death by cafebeef 2022-10-07T23:04:09Z

@rickylee Thanks for the feedback! Would you mind sharing your system specs?

I tested the game on my laptop only after the deadline, and I noticed it could lag a bit (down to about 30 fps for me). But on my desktop (pretty beefy, AMD 5800X/RTX 3070), it ran at 144 fps no problem. I wonder if upgrading to OpenGL3 and using GPU particle effects would have made it faster?

One Shot Death by cafebeef 2022-10-18T20:56:04Z

@gapagames @aligator Thanks for the feedback! I've been mulling over whether I want to make a larger version of this game with maybe 10-100 levels. I'm considering adding co-op multiplayer with different classes of ships (each with a special weapon or something), and have each boss drop different powerups (maybe increased ship speed or firing rate?). Do you have any thoughts on it? Does it sound like a game you'd enjoy?

Switcheroo by Prologi 2022-10-03T05:47:21Z

This is absolutely my favorite game of the jam that I've played so far! The graphics/audio are simple but very well polished. Very easy to start playing, no instructions needed. And the gameplay isn't something that I've really seen before in other games -- switching around the controls threw me for a loop (in a good way!).

My only criticism is that the boss's projectiles are too easy to defend against. The player's reload speed is so much faster, and your bullets destroy the boss's bullets, so just kinda shooting anywhere will keep you from taking damage from him. (Though, in your favor, I think it's much better to have an enemy be too easy than too hard in a game jam.)

Switcheroo by Prologi 2022-10-04T04:47:47Z

@prologi I think it could turn into a great full-fledged game! This is just my opinion: but I think you'd want to focus on adding *other things that could be switched*, rather than just adding more levels/more enemies. For example, maybe on a later level, your input keys (WASD) move you in an inverted direction. Perhaps a powerup that delays the next switch by another 5 seconds. Or maybe your health and the bosses' health switch. (I have no idea if these would be any good, just throwing them out there.)

Soul of Seasons by shimmerscale 2022-10-04T06:14:16Z

I like the art and the concept! Switching up the level every 10 seconds leads to some interesting effects. But without a skip button it can get boring waiting. I missed one platform at some point, and it would have taken me ~60 seconds to get back to it because two subsequent platforms required seasons during opposite parts of the year.

What's Under The Teapot? by thegamearchitect 2022-10-04T05:14:45Z

Cool idea! I had a bit of trouble learning how to play. At first, I thought I was supposed to be looking for one of the paintings in the background or the water glass on the table to change. I was quite shocked when I learned the teapot was the thing blocking my view. I had assumed it would go to a black screen to hide the view from the player. And I was even more shocked when I saw that the only items I was supposed to be memorizing were the ones beneath the teapot!

Supply Chain by oatsbarley 2022-10-05T07:08:43Z

@oatsbarley Thanks for posting the explanation here! I didn't realize I could click and drag lines. You might want to consider adding that description to the help section above. The synchronized sound effects and clean aesthetics are great btw.
