lovely game! really fun to play, really cute idea. i love shooting things. one thing i'd improve would be to maybe make the crossbow arrow things a little bit more visible? sometimes they're a bit hard to see haha. but adds to the difficulty. and i love the power up at the end of every few levels!
@ty Thank you so much! :) What do you mean exactly? The thingy that show where you are shooting at, or the projectiles themselves? Either way, everything could be improved here, the main goal was to just get it working within the time somehow. haha

@gapagames ah, i meant the projectiles themselves — the ones that the crossbow shoots, that you'd get hurt by. but the game runs and plays really well :)

The art began to grow on me after a while, there's quite some subtleties like a full death animation and 2.5D stuff going on if you pay attention to this seemingly simple game. A lot of attention seems to have been payed where little is necessary for a game-jam (see also: amount of levels).
There's some weird goings on with the point buy system for the cards: At one time I had 85 points, bought an 80 card, and ended up with negative points. At another time it wouldn't let me buy any, even tough I had enough.
Also, there's a bit of a negative feedback system going on where the worse you do, the less upgrades you're able to buy. However, that's balanced by there being no real fail state, and it just being a score attack.
I got 840 points for the full loop.
@remco Thank you for the detailed feedback!
Yes, these are sprites rendered from 3d models, that's where the 2.5D comes from!
The reason for the prices is very dumb. First, it checks your points to the price only with > instead of >= and secondly, it raises the level before subjecting the amount. So you basically pay for the next level while the previous is displayed in the label and checked against your points. I just wrote it down without too much testing and thinking, unfortunately (was a long Sunday).
The scaling is intended like this though. I wanted to give it some replayability with it, as it's pretty much guaranteed you'd do better AND get more upgrades the next time you play. And as you say, it's only about the score anyways. :)
this is a really fun concept that I was unsure of at first, but it really grew on me quickly as I played. This is a fascinating little action puzzle game with a sound progression system. Well done!

I liked the style of the game! It was nice to start out without too much challenge or risk, I felt I understood the mechanics well enough by the time the game started to get challenging which is impressive to achieve in such a short period of time!
Hey, I played your game on the stream - twitch GGame86 Many interesting levels!
Please give my game a try if you have some time!

Good idea for the theme, combines many different game elements (card upgrades, skill shot attack, movement and level planning) as well as so many levels that have a difficulty curve. Well done
I like the upgrade system. some levels seemed to be designed with specific upgrades in mind; and while I couldn't figure out the correct path it feels like a perfect order of upgrades can be found that will allow the player to pop all the targets in every level. Which is pretty cool.
Crossbows popping our targets before we can is a cool mini reflex challenge which goes well with the overall time limit theme.
3D animations in an otherwise 2D game is an interesting idea, sprites were a bit too small to convey the effect tho.
Got 975 points btw :]

Nice game. It's really interesting when I need to try my best in just 10 seconds to get more points. Nice work!
Nice variety of levels with different challenges. A couple did seem like I need to have achieved upgrades(or maybe specific upgrades) to have a chance at. I got shot by a lot of arrows.
Fun game! Nice consistent art style and sound effects. An impressive amount of levels, I thought they were being randomly spawned until it said I was on the last one!
Only constructive feedback is that hitboxes felt a bit wonky sometimes, my arrows seem to only sometimes kill enemies they pass though (vs land on at the target)

I'm so glad that you can die and continue. I played for a while and it feels like a very solid demo of a full game. Good job!

Cool game! The core gameplay loop was pretty tight, and I liked the industrial vibe (no other humans around -- just automated turrets and drifting balloons in a concrete prison). I do wish the arrows had a bit more contrast against the background. They could be pretty hard to see.
@brettschiff Thank you! I think what you mean is actually intended, the idea was that you throw the darts at an angle - so you can't hit when they are at the highest point. So there is no pass through hit at that moment. However, I did not explain that in the game and it's not obvious, that's indeed my fault. It should certainly be better implemented if this was a full game!
