This. Is. Fun! It requires focus to avoid the forbidden color, and even more focus to determine which colors is to avoid. Great game !

coatline 2022-10-03 21:09

Hey, this is pretty fun! I really like the effect of the world building in front of you. It adds some difficulty to try and figure out which color is safe, and which isn't. The mood is great. Good game!

diego-escalante 2022-10-04 05:50

Simple but pretty fun! In fact, it was kind of addicting since it was so easy to jump back in. I found myself playing many times over just to hear that groovy tune. Not much to complain about in this entry. It is very solid throughout. Nicely done!

remco 2022-10-04 10:40

Somehow relaxing, despite it being a action game. Maybe it's the music setting the mood. Also fitting graphics.

What I'm missing is, when you don't jump into a hole, how much 'health' you still have left if you touch another color. If you _do_ jump into a hole, I'd like a little more feedback that this is what happened (the first few times I focused on the colors so much that I didn't notice that I should also avoid the holes, leading to me being confused why some things are insta-death and others have some grace.) I mean, maybe it's just my brain-hungover-from-jam speaking, but perhaps some sound-effects would help there?

Could you please make a windows build? I had heavy performance issues in the browser but I would like to experience more gameplay. The music is cool and the visuals are pleasing.

This has an excellent vibe! The gradual increase in difficulty felt good and I had one lucky run where I got 1156 points. The movement was very responsive, but I think the jumping could use a bit of coyote time to avoid frustration when you press it just slightly too late and fall in a hole. I agree with the other commenter about the health mechanic being unclear, but it was nice to have some leeway when touching the wrong colors at least. The jumping sound was a bit scuffed for me, but the music and graphics are excellent. Great work!

Looks great and has some funky disco music, what more can one really ask for?

jvdwijk 2022-10-04 12:27

To start; Loving that soundtrack, what a jam! I did struggle a lot with this game, I found it very difficult to notice the borders change colors and most of the time I noticed it too late. I also recommend putting controls down somewhere, as I figured out I could jump 5 minutes into playing (which again, is on meπŸ˜…).

The game itself is really well polished and I enjoyed climbing in score! Great entry!

@majadroid I'm glad you like it. I just uploaded windows version for you https://files.jam.host/uploads/$305285/DiscoRoller.zip

@owca Thank you. This works better for me. And thank you for your kind feedback on my game.

I think the implementation of the theme could be more innovative - right now it feels more like a graphical change. I don't know, switching the color of all of the tiles every 10 seconds or something?

Visually it's very nice, although I get a feeling that it might be little bit overdone. My eyes started to hurt after a while. Also not sure if there's some sort of life-based system for touching forbidden-colored-tiles, but if there is, I'm missing a GUI element indicating it.

Other than that, it's good. The ball controls nicely and I appreciate a little bit or leeway when you have close calls with landing on the ledge (no idea if it's intentional or if it's just a happy accident with a physics simulation doing its job lol). I've managed to get the best score 2268.

Nice entry! Really nice looking and fun game! I enjoyed it. Congrats!

matt-ravenhall 2022-10-05 09:40

Strong funky disco mood to this, which works perfectly. It can be difficult to work out which colours are good/bad at each section, perhaps an indicator is needed? Nice job!

aaron-smith 2022-10-05 10:25

Great design, tons of simple fast fun. I lvoe the vibe and the look a lot. The challenge of seeing and understanding the forbiddne tile was oddly harder than I expected.

xoreaxeax 2022-10-05 12:42

Thats pretty hard! (Or I am bad at this :D) Nice game though :) The visuals are very nice and clean Would be cool to sync the music with the tile layout such that you have to "dance" to the music to avoid the forbiden tiles

albertnez 2022-10-05 12:45

Super nice entry! The presentation is superb for a compo entry, and the aesthetics and music go well together! The 3-d runner on tiles gives me nostalgia of old games, and I appreciate some margin of error when stepping into the wrong tiles. This made the game much more fun to play. Well done!

evgeniya-zapolnova 2022-10-05 12:46

Fun game, great use the theme. Music is perfect for the mood :)

slimebro 2022-10-05 12:49

Cool! I like the idea, realisation and graphics. But sometimes for me it's hard to tell which color is to avoid, don't have much time to look at the borders

cogcomp 2022-10-05 17:44

Wow! Really liked this game! Great vibe, pretty graphics, groovy music and good controls. Just a great game. You really should keep developing this after the jam. Really impressive work. Well done!

raspbarrygames 2022-10-05 19:03

Simple but not shallow. Colorful but not garish. Most of all: super fun! Well done.

shumarie 2022-10-05 19:10

I really like the atmosphere. The gameplay is intense, but the music is pleasant and relaxing.

I want to make 2 feedbacks clearer in the gameplay: 1. Which of the colors is "correct" and which is "dangerous"? When you just start playing, it is not very obvious on a new segment of the track which color to jump on. It seems to me that this problem can be solved visually. For example, add any pattern to the wrong color (for example, a large cross). 2. It is unclear how many more touches are left when landing on the wrong color. The animation of sparks and shaking is not very noticeable and does not make it clear how many more mistakes can be made. Possible solution: you can show the "destruction" by sound or on the model of the ball (for example, it darkens or cracks appear).

I agree with the previous comments that it would be good to add "coyote time".

All these little problems do not interfere with playing and having fun jumping. And personally, I would like to record the best result from the player in the final – I like to compare the current race with my best in runners.

Thanks for game!

matt-green 2022-10-05 20:18

The visuals are fun, the music is great (love me some disco), but I had no idea what was happening. I assume some of the panels were bad and you shouldn't stand on them, but it wasn't clear which. I ended up just bouncing and it got me to 500. This definitely seems like it could be polished into a great casual game that I'd play on the bus !

noeloskar 2022-10-06 19:40

Real sweet, the instructions were a bit unclear, i thought by the border you meant lines on the background, and i was confused why non red tiles killed me, i also feel like the UI is a bit flat, some shadows and round edges would look nice, but other than that, really cool game, keep it up

seisus 2022-10-08 20:42

Good entry for a compo game.

ksimaster 2022-10-13 14:18

nice game! Simple and fan :)

poshdan 2022-10-17 05:33

This game has style! I like the effect of the level being built up in front of you. I could've done with a better indicator on which color is bad, especially with the holes also resulting in game over, I was a bit preoccupied just to avoid falling through. Great entry, though!
