if only i was better at puzzle game. Shades of steven sausage roll but with a great adaptation of different shaped objects. Art was adorable and gameplay was clean and well communicated. Great submission

aluminumfool 2023-10-02 17:49

This was fun play thru. In the beginning I struggled with moving through the level. But this was a very satisfying game to play.:)

cleitoneldorn 2023-10-02 17:53

This is awesome, awesome graphics, music and gameplay. The controls were a little awkward until i got the hang of it.

rorried 2023-10-02 17:58

I have learned I don't read instructions, after putting the furniture in a nice way where I thought they should go, I finally read move everything to this room. I don't know if it was said earlier but I may suggest making it more obvious for your more ...gung-ho players, like myself. Really fun and excited to see where this concept goes!!

jiri-hysek 2023-10-02 18:06

@rorried Thanks for your feedback, I agree! I usualy do a couple of tutorial levels to be sure the player knows everything he/she needs. But this time it took me very long to figure out what kind of game I should make and even longer to fiddling with a prototype, trying to make it work. So unfortunatelly, I didn't have time for tutorials or better signalization where you can but it :( But I finished it in time so I'm happy anyway :)

corporation 2023-10-02 18:31

Okay, I messed up but I refuse to redo it XD . Kinda can blame z order bug, diding see this hole till the end. Nice game overall. Familiar concept, but good implementation, with interesting controls, great sounds and very ni visuals. Also liked how you made everything one big level, and not like multiple. 12.png

alec 2023-10-02 18:40

Great attention to detail! Love the graphics, especially the the little gnomes on the side of the boxes. Movement mechanics were a bit hard for me to pick up, I think having a bigger arrow indicating direction might have helped me get the hang of it quicker. Overall great game.

jiri-hysek 2023-10-02 19:10

@corporation yeah, I can see the empty spot.

The z-index issue is caused by the three-box item. One of that boxes should have different z-index than the other but it's all in one image so it's not possible to do (I'd need to have multiple images and set z-index separately for each one - which I didn't have time for :( Great job anyway, almost did it! One big level was kind of necessity because I was running ouf of time. I wanted to make a few easy level for better explaining movement and mechanics.

@alec Thanks for the feedback, it would definitely deserve at least some easy tutorial level to explain concept. And I think I had redrawing that direction indicators in my todo list but.. yeah, you know how compo goes :)

tasakasama 2023-10-02 21:01

The idea is super interesting, but the movements are really complicated, which is a shame because it has good potential to be a good game.

gastricsparrow 2023-10-03 07:25

Hey good job with this game, it feels very complete. I did get quite frustrated, but not cause of the game, just at my own incompetence haha. It's quite a brain burner! The audio and graphics are solid. Good job!

jiri-hysek 2023-10-03 07:56

@gastricsparrow is it? I thought it's quite easy and relaxing game (apart from controls you need to get use to). But I didn't have much time for balancing and quality of life improvements so it could be hard I guess?

jiri-hysek 2023-10-03 08:03

@tasakasama Thanks for your feedback! Do you have any ideas how to make controls better? I thought about controls quite a lot, tried several ways how to control it but this one felt the best (may be subjective), althought I had to get use to it for a while.

There is also a second way of control in the code (just use arrow to go to direction you want), it can be enabled just by changing one variable. I didn't use it in the final game because it didn't work too well. Because it's not very intuitive in isometric view to say what's up, left, down and right. I even tried classic top-down view instead of isometric, controls felt better in top-down but the game didn't look good. So I decided for this kind of control - like in an Asteroids - you can go forward and backward and turn left or right. It felt more natural when you want to pull items backwards (not only push in front of you).

Or maybe somehow with a mouse? I don't know.. maybe I can add a simple switch so users can use control that feels more natural for them.

tudvari 2023-10-03 08:27

I love the “can’t do” sound effect! :D And the aesthetics are super cool, really polished and immersive. At first I really enjoyed it, however I couldn’t finish it because... well basically I didn't plan ahead. And additionally I also didn’t see that those tri-boxes are one L shaped object and not 3 separate ones. :D But I got some stuff out and tried again.

Regarding that bottleneck "bridge": I couldn't really get my head around what object and where can I rotate "into" the bridge. Because according to my mind I shouldn't be able to do that at all due to the walls being there, even if not rendered. But I guess I wen't around this mind block by trial and error, just as usual:

Sadly I couldn't finish it, after a few tries I gave up. I guess it's not for me because logistics is so frustrating for me in the real life too. Immersion 11/10! Keep up the good work, Jiri! :)

jiri-hysek 2023-10-03 08:42

@tudvari Hi! Thanks for nice words! As you may know from PixelProphecy's discord, this LD didn't go too well for me, so I'm super happy how it turned out at the end :) Btw. that bridge - you don't need to move it at once, you can also drop it, walk around the item push it a bit, drop it again, walk to different spot, pull it, etc... :)

tudvari 2023-10-03 08:56

@jiri-hysek Yes, I know, and it still feels super polished, congrats! Yep, I (suprisingly soon) discovered that I have to push/pull/rotate, then change my position, then do something again, then change, etc. But at some points I just couldn't wrap my head around it I think, and I missed the obvious things to do. I guess I should have drank more coffee.

jiri-hysek 2023-10-03 09:32

@tudvari you should! :D So it looks like I don't have do be sad that more complex shapes didn't make it into the game (I wanted to add more tetris-shaped objects;).

stmate03 2023-10-03 16:07

This game was fun, had to think a little bit about how to position all the shapes and objects but I had a plan to make sure all will fit, and all did fit, off to my new apartment I go B)

joymagine 2023-10-03 22:35

the controls were kinda weird, seems weird to turn and move, probably be better if it just moved and maybe different button to turn idk

passbykamenrider 2023-10-04 03:29

Love the visuals! The movement is a bit hard, maybe try separate rotation and movement to different keys? Sometimes I want to step forward but I just keep rotating.

lereveur 2023-10-04 03:47

Nice, cute and peacefull little puzzle! Not as simple as it seems at first sight, bugs are anecdotical, and arts, as music, are well designed to dive me into a good and appropriate mood. So well done, and thank you!

jens-g 2023-10-04 16:07

A bit clunky controls sadly, and it makes it kind of painful to deal with. The concept is cute though and very fitting. Nice and clean art too.

coatline 2023-10-04 17:16

It's actually quite polished! The goofy music fit really nicely but I also got tired of it very quickly and turned it off. The guy is funny and I enjoy the sounds that he made. I think this game is too hard (for a game jam game)! Maybe have multiple levels, each increasing in difficulty so more people can experience the gameplay loop more fully. The controls were admittedly frustrating, but I have no ideas on how to improve them. I really do think that is a great take on the theme and I enjoyed my 350 steps before giving up after realizing that I had to move all the furniture too! Great job!

simoncarter 2023-10-04 17:32

The controls were not too easy to get used too (being on azerty keyboard did not help) but I get that it was the best for the game. Sometime it was hard to see in which direction i would move.

It fits the theme very well and the art and music were very nice. Nice work

mooobster 2023-10-04 17:51

This is a really cool take on the theme! I love the problem solving required and can totally see people speedrunnning this game. (I spent the first 50ish moves just moving boxes around bc I didn't notice the loading zone, oops :P) Screenshot 2023-10-04 at 1.44.45 PM.png

mickey-sanchez 2023-10-04 23:28

i loved the art and music and atmosphere : ) i think the concept is great i find the actual execution to be a bit frustrating, and it's very hard to conceptualize how things will rotate sometimes when you're holding them in weird places. i also wonder if the isometric viewpoint is the most appropriate for this because it adds to the overall cognitive load (even though it looks great)

wad 2023-10-05 01:36

Sokoban concept with combined boxes. I like it!

jiri-hysek 2023-10-05 07:37

@mickey-sanchez good point, actually! At start I was thinking it would be too easy (since I didn't think I'd have time for smart level design or any other mechanics than just moving stuff around). So it came to my mind that isometric view could add a little more difficulty because you need more spatial imagination.

But it turned out that it doesn't add a difficulty in a good way, it rather frustrate people. The question is whether that spatial thinking is just hard or whether it's because I didn't have time to add more indicators where you can or cannot rotate. I could add for example some green tiles on the floor to see where it would land if you rotate. I only squeezed in a red indicator of obstacle that prevent you from rotating.

jiri-hysek 2023-10-05 07:39

@mooobster good job!

incd021 2023-10-06 08:55

Sooo many steps.. I was caught off guard by the boxes that were tied together.. So had to start over as I didn't want to move everything out again. Also so many boxes with gnomes. Love the graphics, the music and the sfx when trying to do an illegal move  Overall a very nice game and execution, great job

vollfeiw 2023-10-07 08:22

Graphics and audio are pretty good, very polished game. Control were a bit strange at first but got used to it pretty quickly. I couldn't complete the game sadly :(

bangkerpow 2023-10-07 14:36

Everything comes together so well in this. The sound and graphics fit together perfectly.

jiri-hysek 2023-10-07 14:58

@bangkerpow Thanks for the playthrough. You get all the tricks pretty fast! You did it before, didn’t you? :) Great job

hakro 2023-10-08 16:08

Lovely game, I enjoyed it a lot. Seems well thought, and the graphics look very nice and cute. The music works very well with the game. I got the Z index bug at some point :)

It has a bit of a similar idea to my game, but mine has different bugs :D

Great compo entry overall. GG.

jiri-hysek 2023-10-08 17:26

@hakro Thanks! Yeah, I saw your game, but unfortunatelly, web build didn't work well for me and there is no mac os build so I couldn't play it (I'll try to open it in godot, though). When I was making the game I was thinking that it would be so easier to make it in 3D :) Z-index issue - gone, rotating troubles - gone (I had to make a different picture for each angle and switch them on rotation:). But I've never done 3D modelling and texturing.. Anyway, I'll check your game to see how it could work :)

hakro 2023-10-08 17:32

@jiri-hysek thx :) Note that the way I did the game, is absolutely not the way a good game should be made in Godot :D I took lots of shortcuts for the jam, which usually turned out to be bad ideas, but just enough to make it work. If you want, you can try other browsers, if you have those laying around, to see if it works any better.

jiri-hysek 2023-10-08 17:49

@hakro yeah, don't worry, I know how things work in game jams :) I tried Chrome and Firefox, no luck.. but it worked fine in my Godot 4.1!

matt-green 2023-10-08 18:31

I could tell immediately this was not your first LD. The polish was insane. On the game but also on itch and the site.

The concept was great. I personally have a lot of difficulty with relative positioning (ie, up is forward even if you're facing down) so it was a bit of a struggle for me. But I was happy to have even figured out how to get the 3-boxes around that corner!

The sound effects were very funny (I assume voice recorded?). All in all, great game.

commanderstitch 2023-10-09 03:34

Nice charming delightful puzzler with decent levels of polish. It was like playing a game from a store. Great work. xD

frank-gevaerts 2023-10-09 22:46

1079 steps. It took me a while to get the hang of it and to realise that there was a second L-shaped block :)

Nicely done! I enjoyed how everything worked together, graphics, audio and mechanics!
