The lives and symbol indicator is over the delivery locations on the web version on itch, so it makes it a bit hard to see what you're doing. The switching between color and symbol determining where to deliver was an interesting idea, but makes it hard to keep track of what you should be focusing on and the game ends rather quickly.

Hi @elementary, thank you for the feedback! THe overlapping UI elements sound worrying. On which browser/OS did you test the itch version?
@fargred, I used firefox on Linux.
I think this could have had a slightly higher level of execution and/or maybe a tutorial, but if time was too constrained, I understand completely! I liked the general idea and think it could be a pretty fun little mobile game (if that's the way you wanted to go eventually).
Fun little game. I liked using the physics sim to wrangle boxes backwards on the conveyor belt.
High score was 22. And considering I am playing the hard mode for colorblind people, I think that's pretty darn good.
Actually, I think my main problem is that the mode can change with no warning. A couple times, the mode changed milliseconds before I dropped off the box and caused me to lose a point. Also, a sound effect for each mode it switches to would be helpful.
simple and straight forward I like it, switching modes was a great way to mix the loop up a bit but not changing it.

The UI is hiding the symbols
Nice game More modes would add more challenges, like: - sort by shape of package - sort by weight(size) - sort by price
And add well visible countdown before mode switching.

Simply but quite addictive game. Love the pared back graphics and sound.
Game looks rough but the mindf*** with colors and shape combined works great. The UI is a bit of a mess though. But yeah, game was more fun and challenging than I expected.

Fun little sorting game with some depth added by shuffling the doors, this is a fun little time killer! I also liked sounds manager guys made when they appeared!

Thank you for the feedback everyone, it is much appreciated! <3
@ZungryWare Darn, really good point about color-blindness, there should definitely an option/secondary identifier for this. Thanks for bringing it up, I hadn't considered this. And I totally agree with your point that there should be an inicator for an upcoming mode switch, as it is otherwise a bit too unfair. It was actually on my toDo list, but unfortunately I just ended up having not enough time for it anymore.
@elementary @mkraw @bauke-regnerus I uploaded a small patch for the UI elements (as I think small bug fixes are acceptable after submission?) and I hope that fixes the issues!
@cortexdeveloper Thanks for the feedback! Totally agree, especially on the indicator for a mode switch. This, and some more sorting modes were on the list actually, but got axed due to time running out. :(
You are a very talented creator and I think this game was very well set to the theme. Let me please give you some pros and cons
Pros
Fun game play
sorting boxes brain puzzle is a great combination with the theme
good mood because of death manager character
Cons
Less innovation because I think I played a similar game in another jam
The mechanic I thought was very clever, and has a lot of potential for expanding upon. I also have to commend you on the responsiveness in picking up the boxes. It felt snappy and honestly that doesn't always happen in entries, so kudos to you.
I did want to echo the sentiment about having some more of a warning because I actually lost all three of my lives to placing in a box to a spot where it was valid only moments before, but that's really only my major issue with the current iteration of the game as it stands. Otherwise I loved the theme and the concept, and think that it's a great bite-sized game idea
Interesting concept and you were able to capture the stressful feeling of trying to put boxes in the right places fast enough. I agree with others that a warning about upcoming mode switch would help it feel more fair/fun since you'd be able to play around mode switches rather than just randomly losing points if it changes at the wrong time. The UI could also use some more polish...even just a non-default font would make a big difference (although understandable given time constraints).
The managers were definitely my favourite part! They were so funny and I enjoyed the very manager-y behaviour of blocking the slots they spawned infront of so you were prevented from actually doing your job until you talked to them :joy:

This game successfully gave me existential anxiety and I am now jaded with society and resentful of my job and life. Thanks!
Solid entry, lots of neat little mechanics.
One difficulty I had was that the condition would sometimes change exactly as I dropped my token in the box and it would be wrong. Maybe a timer? or if its supposed to be unexpected, you could be slightly more forgiving around the change-time. Or maybe if you've already picked up a box, it still works for the old container? Just some ideas.
The managers were pretty funny. I was just talking about Office Space today. An intrusive floor manager is always a great add :)
Really fun, simple and cute game! Great entry you guys! here's my highscore :)

Easy and fun. I like it. Would love some countdown before it switches over, since I ended up to drag some object in just at the moment when I was switching.

I like this very much, that's my kind of game! It starts out easy but even with training getting the hang of it is not simple at all. Great job!
Nice entry! The controls feel good and are intuitive, the gameplay is fun and engaging, and I think there's a lot of room to do more with this. I think the manager popping in to literally slow you down is a funny (and way too real) touch. The background/color/font combo is hard to read for my taste, and I found the audio feedback when you drop boxes into the slots inconsistent, and I wasn't sure if different sounds had different meanings. Overall this was a really fun game though, and I played multiple rounds, enough to get this very fitting high score: gameOver53.png
Thank you for making this game!

Thanks again everyone for the feedback, it's greatly appreciated! :)
@guin36 After all, isn't giving players existential anxiety what it's all about? ;)
@perfectsquare Great point about the non-default fonts, definitely have to look into that next time. It seems like an easy enough change with a comparatively big impact.
@bmanstudio Thanks for submitting the score! Added to the (new) leaderboard!
@falk-hoeppner Thanks for the extensive feedback! Very good point about the fonts/coloring, this is definitely something I need to practice/research more going in future game jams. And you are right, the drop-off sounds are varied intentionally, as I feared just a single sound would get old fast. However, I didn't consider that it could be interpreted as a signal for a mechanical difference, interesting point. Also *wow*, your score is extremely impressive and actually made me start a leaderboard in the game description. Congratulations on becoming employee of the month. ;)
@fargred Do get a plaque in the breakroom for that? Also, it should be 53 in the leaderboard ;)

@falk-hoeppner Definitely, the plaque will go right beside the water cooler! And you are right of course, thanks for mentioning it!

I would like to be on the highscore list please :P (I had 58 points)

This game was a ton of fun! Especially this highscore list you made was a great idea. It really gave me the extra motivation to try again and get the top spot. I think what I realized while playing is that I dont have to hurry as much as it feels I have to. Each time the reason I died was not because the cubes made it to the end of the conveyer belt, but because I put the cubes into the wrong boxes. When I learned I should take my time and make sure I put the boxes in the right spot I did a lot better ^^
Maybe one small point of feedback is that I often do not realize the target had switched from color to shape. Maybe some sound effect or other communication to let the player know would have helped. But that said, it did not take away from the fun of this game at all. It was super simple, but really addicting. Amazingly well done :)
Edit: I shamelessly stole your idea of a leaderboard for my own game. I hope you dont mind :P How did you create the nice table?
Fun game! It's simple to learn and has a nice difficulty curve. I just wish there was some sort of sound effect when the sorting mode changed.

@wuppos Glad you liked it, and welcome to the top of the leaderboard (aka list of employees of the month). :) A better notice for the mode switch would have indeed been a good idea, which unfortunately didn't make it in in time. And I definitely don't mind you starting you own leaderboard, I think a lot of people here are doing one! As the text boxes here support Markdown, you can format tables with it pretty easily, see for example here: https://docs.github.com/en/get-started/writing-on-github/working-with-advanced-formatting/organizing-information-with-tables
изображение_2023-05-08_230741207.png simple and fun) i guess the only think can be updated - somehow block change of the matching logic after you picking box up. And switch it after you drop a box

Quite fun and challenging. I like how the blocks are physics based when they fall. But sometimes they just randomly fly off screen. Other than that, cool little entry.

@captandrey Great suggestion! Interestingly, I had tried out basically this way of handling the mode switch (i.e. switch directly after depositing) in my internal build and it works great for not screwing over the player anymore - however it does also become significantly easier and loses a bit of tension as you can always be sure you *do* have the time to deposit. But maybe it then just needs some additional mechanics (more modes especially) to make it more challenging again.
I was much better at colours than shapes, and it took me ages to realise I could clear the managers. Love their sound effect too. Good work
