Ah, a fellow person of culture. Awesome job pal.
This is a creative idea! I love realistic sword fighting akin to bushido blade and this was really fun. Your music captured the theme as well.
It did fit the theme! delivered us some good fanservice!
The game knows what it wants to be and does a damn good job at it. Well done! Sometimes the controls felt a bit unresponsive, but I could also just be bad :p
By the way? did you do this in godot 4 or 3? Thinking of which engine to use next time for projects like these.
Ahaha nice! Audio, art, animations, humor are all great! I don't think I got a hang of the controls but it was a great vibe overall. Nicely done!
Nice clean gameplay and animations! Enjoyed the commitment to the pun.
Excellent use of the theme! Music is quite appropriate. Simple, funny game. Nice work!
@sweltj I used 3, since I've been having trouble with web builds in 4 and didn't want to risk fighting with it on a deadline. I love the new features in 4 though, so hopefully the bugs will be sorted out by next time!
Great gameplay! I like the attention to detail where getting hit on an area you've already been hit sends you back one space, so there's still an incentive to block high and low. The only thing I might change is to add some kind of penalty to being pushed back past the end of the screen. This would likely be necessary if multiplayer were added since a safe strategy is to just leave your blade on the line where you haven't been hit.
The AI is pretty good, too, and has a nice difficulty curve as you defeat more opponents.
Congrats on finding a really original pun for a game :) (I don't know why but at first it took me a bit to notice I was the right character and not the left one 😅)
@wendel-scardua I was wondering if anyone was going to mention that. It occurred to me like 20 minutes after submitting it that it's kinda weird that I put the player on the left. I have no explanation. It just seemed like the thing to do at the time, I guess
This game is simple and fun, I enjoyed it more than I expected. Great pixel art btw :)
This a creative use of the theme and a fun swordfighting/parrying game. The AI is very well done.
I think the only thing I'd add is some kind of buffer system for inputs, it felt like my inputs were getting eaten if I pressed a button during an animation. Pressing multiple buttons (like if I pressed up or down while I was holding forward or back) also seemed to eat my input.
I laughed. I laughed at the pun. Great game!
AH, my livery has been delivered! Really enjoyed this game. First round I assumed I was the person on the left and walked past my enemy by accident. Here and there the game felt a bit unresponsive which made it hard to react to my opponent. That being said, the parry/ lunge gameplay is super fun! And man the parrying is sooo satisfying. Next to this it is made in a nice art style with nice background music and effect. I love that you folleyed the sounds with 'various kitchen implements' .
Amazing job! Loved it.
I'd love to see the controls displayed either on-screen, or off to the side under the game. Because of how quickly you can get throw in, I had to replay the opening just so I could see the tutorial again. Outside of that, it felt really neat. Fantastic art as well!
That's a nice theme interpretation, to be sure! I'd like the controls to be more responsive to my actions, but even so, I salute your punny idea :D
I really love this one, it's got the same kind of minimalist mechanics that made Nidhogg fun.
Took me a while to understand how the game relates to the theme, good pun. The fencing mechanic reminds me of Nidhogg and feels great to play. Pixel art and animations are top-notch, so is the sound-design. Overall it's a very strong entry, congrats on making such quality game solo in 3 days!
This is very cool! Only thing that hurt my experience was the feeling of my inputs being ignored, I can understand it being recovery time so I'm not allowed to act - maybe some visual indicators for that time/animations making it clearer would have helped!
Really enjoyed this, de-livery was something suggested in our team and I'm so glad someone did it, I sent this around to the team mates to see :). Very well made as well, visuals and mechanics were really nice. Very well done.
Love it, such a unique idea! You really broke down the theme into its parts, haha.
That was fun, would've loved to see some more variation of enemy behaviour but it I got a good chuckle out of it and the controls were solid
This game gives me Nidhogg with a funny twist on the sword fighting formula and is definitely one of the more creative ways of interpreting a theme I thought was rather bland - nice work
Great!!! Much fun! No complaints besides maybe mouse control for this kind of actions in this perspective. Is a bit awkward at first, but nevertheless - excellent submission. Great artstyle, colors and animations, fun and balanced gameplay, cute music and sounds and overhaul solid presentation!
I imagine it will play excellently with buddies on a couch 1v1. Kinda reminded me of Bushido Blade 2 on PS1 =D
Wish I could add this somewhere to my library of cute little games to not lose it sometime in a future...
One of the most unique takes on the theme I've seen in this jam. Also the gameplay being simple and addictive made for a fun experience. I got 8 on my 2nd playthrough.
I lost my pants so I tried to guard my shirt as much as possible. My strategy was to also rush the opponent right when they entered the field.
Animations/graphics were excellent!
Great game! Nice game mechanic, cool pixel art and fitting music! I'm not sure if there is difficulty progression, but it feels like not, which is understandable for a jam game, but starting easier and building up with each oponent would be nice :) Anyway, good job with the game!
wow at the heart of this is a really great swordplay mechanic. such great work here, i really enjoyed this game and will be playing it some more. great work!
This is a very cool take on the theme! Great job.
Our art style and design philosophy are the same. Simple design brings difficult operations and fun games!
Love the animations. Cute music. It really goes with the gameplay. Good job with the swordplay. The AI was decent. It's fun for a few rounds. It'd be fun for more if there were some goals.
