LD45 — Start with nothing

Beggars Can Be Choosers by Herman Chau 2019-10-08T02:00:04Z

I think I may have discovered a glitch. I sold my sword and shield to the round table, and the card said I received 100 coins, but I did not receive the 100 coins.

Otherwise, this was a pretty smart game!

From the Void by oillen 2019-10-12T23:56:54Z

Has many flaws. Clicking on the buttons in the UI also place a building on the ground. The mechanics aren't explained. The buildings aren't explained. The only real mechanic is finding the ratio of different types of buildings needed to get the best profit. Needs a lot of work.

Words With Foes: Quest for the Lexinomicon by MattWoelk 2019-10-10T02:03:27Z

Such a fantastic idea, and perfectly executed! Sometimes, having good execution is better than a complex idea.

I had 90 tiles after defeating all the bosses!

Top Seed by Bodaciouslycrazy 2019-10-08T02:57:36Z

Thank you so much for the kind words!

@unitedfailures I totally agree, the camera is a bit jerky. Oddly enough, the code controlling the camera was one of the most complicated scripts I wrote for this game. I didn't want to waste too much time on it, so it was left kinda unpolished. I just wish I had a little more time... And by a little more time, I mean a month.

@tequilatom I'm glad to hear that.

@blitzcloud It is important to note that I am not an artist at all. Plus, I didn't even know 3d modelling before this. I learned blender on the fly to make all of these custom models.

@mathemagician thank you for the comment! I'm always looking for things to improve on, and the camera and controls could have been better.

Survive in Neon lights by HakierGrzonzo 2019-10-13T00:30:57Z

There is definitely some work to be done on the controls and GUI. Often times, the upgrade menu would immediately disappear for no reason. But, the game was actually kinda fun, once I understood it. Well done!

Find the Controls by NunoRibeiro 2019-10-13T00:06:39Z

Good job! There are definitely some areas of improvement, like graphics and music, but I'd understand if you aren't a composer or artist. The gameplay was simple, yet interesting. I feel like with a bigger world and some more controls to learn, this could become a really good game.

Cascade by Goldenglade 2019-10-08T02:46:09Z

Fantastic game! Proves that games don't need to be complex to be fun.

My only suggestion: On gamepad, make the dodge button go in the direction of the current movement, not in the aiming direction.

LD46 — Keep it alive

Entropia by Kaisean Games 2020-04-23T17:46:41Z

Fun little strategy game! Its nice that you have a help screen that explains things, but nowhere does the game tell you what each of the items look like (aside from Foodium). I figured out what Actionium and Resistium were just by messing around with them, but I couldn't figure out which ones were Scorium or Decayium. They both seem to just infinitely give me points if I click on them. Also, a few times, I manged to use an item that consumed some of my actions, causing me to have negative actions. Possibly a bug. The pixel art is adorable! The music is super relaxing. Great job on both of those! I had fun with this game. Very well done!

GNAT#46 by arowx 2020-04-23T17:57:08Z

This game was quite good! I do have a few criticisms though. For one, the inverted mouse just felt frustrating and awkward. I can see why you might have done it to more emulate jet controls, but with the rest of the controls being more like a shooter, it doesn't feel right... Two, The game kinda throws everything at you right at the beginning. I feel like the difficulty needs to start lower and ramp up. Lastly, making the enemies not fly in a straight line might give some more variety and interesting challenges to the player.

All in all, its still a great game. Great job! :)

Computer Rat by Tybau 2020-04-21T18:16:20Z

This is a great idea, but it could use a bit more polish.

The tutorial levels are a bit un-intuitive. Forcing the player to fail a level to then change the level to teach something isn't a good idea: players shouldn't be forced to lose to progress. It also teaches the player that the game will solve problems for you, which isn't true.

The rotate icons should probably have the arrow going in a full circle rather than just a 90 degree bend.

Great job!

O.D.E.N by trit_techne 2020-04-23T17:27:27Z

this game is beautiful, and the sounds and music are brilliant. But I couldn't seem to understand some of the core mechanics.

I didn't understand what the Fuel cells were because they looked different on the game compared to the cutscenes and screenshots. I also had absolutely no idea how to eat: There was no food anywhere to be seen.

I lost the first time because I had no idea what I was doing. I completely fried one of the guys in stasis and then died of hunger. the second time however, I just put one fuel cell in the corner and tried to figure out how to eat for the rest of the game, and somehow won. I don't understand.

Also, the walking controls seem clunky. Why can't you walk diagonally? Also, why do I sometimes need to lift a key in order to move in a new direction? Movement definitely needs polish.

The concept is great though. I just feel it needs better cohesion and explanation to the player.

Death Trap II: Revenge of the Walls by schmavery 2020-04-24T03:07:59Z

Holy crap, this is so smart. Finale has got me stumped... I have to solve it!

Cargo Rats by entirelyBees 2020-04-21T01:35:06Z

Well done! The graphics are solid and look great! Everything seems pretty polished.

I did notice that the controls felt "sticky". This might be due to the Gravity and Sensitivity settings in the Input Axis.

Gravelighter by radow 2020-04-24T01:44:31Z

The atmosphere is perfect. All of the models are really nice looking too! really well done

Arrhythmia by Bodaciouslycrazy 2020-04-21T02:08:50Z

@joe-chatfield Hey there! I was unaware of this bug. The game has only been tested in chrome (and the standalone download). I did some searching and found some suggestions from others. Supposedly, you need to change firefox's settings to accept all cookies. Try going to Tools → Options → Privacy and setting “Use custom settings for history” to always.

source: https://www.kongregate.com/forums/1021798-game-programming-subforum/topics/614302-webgl-security-error

I'm not sure if there is something I can change about the build to fix this though. Everything that I have seen has mentioned changing firefox settings...

Arrhythmia by Bodaciouslycrazy 2020-04-21T14:40:18Z

Thank you so much, @mrowka !

Arrhythmia by Bodaciouslycrazy 2020-04-23T18:02:25Z

Thank you for all the kind words, everyone! Yall made my day

Arrhythmia by Bodaciouslycrazy 2020-04-29T14:03:40Z

@nathalia-hohl Thank you for the feedback! the bottles were probably the most unclear thing in the game, and I wish I could go back and change them. They aren't meant to be weapons. In fact, the bottles can't even collide with the monsters, they go straight through. Instead, the sound of them breaking can be used as a distraction to get the monsters away from you. There is no way to kill the monsters, you just have to get past them.

Keep it, Alice by Neon Glass 2020-04-23T22:42:17Z

The music is great, and the title art is fantastic. The gameplay could use a little more depth, and it would be nice to see health as its own health bar instead of a number. Pretty good job!

Lifelink by IanLux 2020-04-24T21:39:45Z

Very well done! This is one of the more complex entries I have played. There is a lot of content here, which is very impressive. The graphics look nice, and there are plenty of animations and effects. The music is great (although if a level takes too long, the music won't loop and you will be left in complete silence until the next level).

The different types of attacks were interesting, but I kinda just mashed until everything was dead. I didn't feel like the different attacks mattered that much.

I did find a glitch on the hard level. The enemy AI seemed broken. They never moved or attacked...

Even with that, I still loved this game. Very well done!

Further into the Universe by WhoMakeWorse 2020-04-21T21:19:00Z

The controls don't seem to be working. This is likely due to the controls being designed for azerty keyboards. I'm just using a normaly qwerty keyboard, and its not easy to play like this.

Also, when on a planet in first person view, your mouse is left on the screen. because of this, you won't be able to turn past a certain angle once your mouse hits the edge of the screen.

I want to like this so bad though, there is a lot of content here that looks really cool. I just can't play it.

Cthulhu: The Cult Must Not Die by LaserPanzerWal 2020-04-21T17:28:38Z

Very well done! The graphics look fantastic, and the music felt like it fit perfectly. The gameplay is a bit repetitive though.

I did notice a bug where the enemy AI would get stuck just a bit beneath the cultist on the right most side, not able to attack or do anything. Also, there was an incapacitated enemy that I somehow could not take a soul from...

After playing for 8ish minutes, the game crashed...

Regardless though, I had fun! I like this game a lot.

Amanita by Bastinus Rex 2020-04-23T22:51:22Z

@paul-giovannini @bastinus-rex @julialalart The art and animations are absolutely gorgeous! But for some reason, the game doesn't really function at all for me. Pressing space to pick up things only works like a tenth of the time. And the mushroom doesn't seem to actually eat anything I gave it. Am I doing something wrong?

As for the spacebar: Are you detecting player input in the FixedUpdate() loop? That might be causing the game to miss inputs inbetween frames.

Lightlife by Merpui 2020-04-24T00:46:36Z

The little tunes that the robo plays are so cute, its perfect. My only complaint was that it was too short. Well done!

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Darkest Depths by skipi 2021-04-28T02:07:23Z

I really like the design of the enemies here! The music was also fantastic!

The Cave by incobalt 2021-05-01T03:17:09Z

There is a really good basis for a puzzle game here! It could have been a bit more fleshed out though, but I understand that time is short. I don't get why you have to name the torches though...

Debt Collector by thomz12 2021-04-29T02:06:57Z

The presentation here is perfect. At first, I was a tad disappointed because I tend to not like auto clicker kinds of games, but once I realized it had a time limit, it became much more interesting. Well done!

THE PIT by Almax 2021-04-29T01:33:27Z

Wall running is always a win! I could see people actually getting competitive and speedrunning this. Oddly, the game pulled up SteamVR when I runned it, and didn't have any audio. I hear this is a common issue with Unreal Engine games.

Otherwise, this is absolutely perfect. <3

Disco Delve by adam-gould 2021-04-30T01:52:38Z

ITS A BOP! I couldn't stop bouncing my head! I love it!

Dwaaarrvves! by DesignatedDog 2021-04-27T03:12:49Z

I really like the art style! The gameplay could be a bit more involved, and some simple sounds would go a long way, but I like it none the less. Well done!

Curiosity by Bodaciouslycrazy 2021-04-28T02:53:56Z

Thank you all for the feedback! I'm loving it!

@squirmonkey I was aware of that bug. I spent so much time trying to get that cannon to work correctly, but it just didn't want to cooperate. In order to find out what block to damage, I need a 2d position inside of that block. When using raycasts this is easy, just take the point of contact and subtract the normal of the surface. But the cannon projectiles use a trigger collider which doesn't give me much information about where the collision happened. No raycast, no normal. Sometimes the collision is detected before the projectile enters the block, sometimes its already inside the block due to it's speed. I tried so many hacky solutions, and this was the least buggy of them all. It still bugs me.

@fist-full-of-shrimp This was the first time I had dabbled in procedurally generated infinite worlds. All the level generation was done using a mixture of simplex noise, perlin noise, and some logic rules for spawning items. Damaged/Destroyed blocks were stored in a separate data structure and applied ontop of the procedural generation. Taben was mostly the mastermind behind the world generation, he's a madman.

@tarcisiotm Thank you! All the art was from Jacob Ostrander. This was his first time working on any video game before! He learned so much in such a short period of time.

Curiosity by Bodaciouslycrazy 2021-05-02T17:40:46Z

@mighty-mufflon-games That image physically hurts. XD

Cortex by sockpuppetcow 2021-04-28T01:56:10Z

Simple, yet fun! shooting enemies is always fun. I wish the enemies were a different color than the terrain so that they could stand out more though

Deepest Dwarf Dungeon by NinjaCatz 2021-05-01T16:16:06Z

The pixel art and animations are fantastic! Gameplay is challenging, but the good kind of challenging. Well done!

Deep down the Abyss by Kyrios 2021-04-28T01:48:12Z

The presentation here is top notch! Fantastic visuals, and probably the best music and audio I have seen yet! Absolutely gorgeous! I kinda like the idea that the gameplay is a mystery where you learn how the mechanics work yourself, however I think the lack of information in some places, not all mechanics can be reasonably learned without outside help. random suggestion: Make the focus action have a visible effect on the UI/world the next turn, ie - make the buttons glow gold or something to show that they are powered up.

All in all, this is fantastic. :)

Underground Chaos by Lombax 2021-05-01T03:08:40Z

The animations for the enemies are impressive, and I wasn't expecting the "walking on walls" mechanic. Other mechanics probably could have used more time though, but it was still enjoyable.

The Deep Unknown by SirRafufl 2021-04-29T03:10:35Z

This is amazing! The neon aesthetic is perfect, and the music is chill. Flying around is super relaxing. My only complaint is that I with A and D were the roll buttons, not Q and E.

An Unexpected Mishap in Naval Mine Cove by Bea 2021-04-28T02:33:09Z

This is a solid, well polished game! The graphics are nice, the music is catchy, and the gameplay is fun! Well done.

Descension AI by Chrispy977 2021-04-29T00:29:44Z

the 3D design here is so clean and polished, its amazing! The gameplay is basic, but well executed and just plain fun! If I have any critique, I would move the camera a bit further back behind the player so that he doesn't take up so much screen space, limit his movement so he can't go off camera. Otherwise, this game nailed it.

Jojo's Treasure by poddlesli 2021-04-27T03:39:52Z

The artstyle is adorable! the worms are pretty easy to defeat, but then the game just devolves into mindless clicking everywhere. I was only able to find 1 key after completely covering all 3 floors with holes.

Rabbit Rappel by MatterLinx 2021-05-01T16:33:05Z

This is absolute bliss! The graphics are amazing, the controls feel perfect, the music is great and even dynamically switches between different areas. It is unbelievable how well made this is. It is definitely missing some sound effects though, which can go a long way in giving feedback to the player. I had no idea the gun could charge for a good while (my bad for not reading the instructions) cause there was no sound effect and the visual cue was pretty minimal.

Yes, this should absolutely be continued! Well done.

The Right Way by OffworldDemon 2021-04-30T02:05:57Z

sufficiently creepy. The visuals and audio here are fantastic. The gameplay is a bit simple, and the only really dangerous position is the start of each level/area. It would be interesting if each level had multiple stairways that went upward and the enemies would drag you to the closest one. Still, very well done.

Golem by TobyMurray 2021-04-27T03:26:29Z

I'm having some issues with the game freezing and crashing, but this is otherwise a fantastic game! It's fast, hectic, and has plenty of different characters to control, and the art is gorgeous. Very well done.

Egress by SirDuck 2021-05-01T03:35:35Z

Very well polished and put together! This is a great idea executed to perfection. Top notches!

Defiled Reflection by BidentWorks 2021-04-30T01:22:49Z

The art and mood of this is just fantastic. The I like that the puzzles contain both a strategy element of learning a path in addition to a skill element of getting the timing right. Its a bit challenging, and some of those timing windows are really tight, but I managed to make it through. Very well done.

LD41 — Combine 2 Incompatible Genres

EXTREME EXTERMINATION DEFENSE by chaoclypse 2018-04-26T02:19:47Z

I love it. Simple and addicting. The physics of the car is a tad wonky, but not enough to ruin the fun. The jump pad is super satisfying on the later levels with massive groups of bugs. I love it!

Magic The Shattering by diptoman 2018-04-28T04:26:25Z

Amazing game! Fantastic graphics, great music, great mechanics. Everything was really well polished. The card system was simple, yet interesting enough that it encouraged strategy. That being said, I feel like the cards were a tad unbalanced. For example, I found that the homing weapons ended up being far superior to every other weapon, especially in the late game where moving around becomes more of a challenge. I think it could be more interesting if the enemy you fought had some sort of weakness that certain cards might take advantage of.

This is in my list of most favorite games so far. Very well done. <3

Bully-Logy by malobil 2018-04-24T14:42:33Z

NOOOOOOOODLE ARMS

Super Bass Racing by isaaclopinho 2018-04-26T01:55:33Z

I love it! The juxtaposition of high speed racing and calm fishing is really funny, yet it actually worked really well! I only have 2 complaints.

For one, fishing felt really luck based. Sometimes, you just keep getting fish while your opponent is not getting any bites. It seems a tad unfair.

Secondly, there were a lot of controls for having 2 people on one keyboard. I see that you are planning on adding gamepad support in the future. That is exactly what I wanted! Although, I would still look into ways to make keyboard controls simpler for those who don't have controllers.

Very good job! Keep up the great work!

Tennis Defense by kassanu 2018-04-25T01:14:55Z

Not bad! It took me a minute to understand how the ball bounced off the paddle, but I got the hang of it. I noticed that zombies on the far edges of the field were waaay harder to hit than zombies near the center, which was a bit annoying. Good work though!

Claustroom by Wendel Scardua 2018-04-24T03:58:16Z

Pretty good! I thought the concept was unique and fun. I also realized that I am shit at match 3 games.

Minor complaints though: I feel every FPS game needs a sensitivity slider. The walls could use some more detail. Right now they are kinda bland. Sound effect for switching two blocks?

All in all, this game was one of the better ones I have seen so far! well done. ;)

Match Strike by chainedlupine 2018-04-26T02:42:09Z

This is just fantastic! My only complaint is the weird graphics shine off the ground at certain angles. Otherwise, this is perfect!

Wizsnooks by kroltan 2018-04-24T15:22:53Z

The art is amazing! I specifically like the animation of the goblin/orc enemy when he is rolling. :)

There are some gaps in the mechanics right now. For one, there is no limit on the number of shots you can take, so its pretty easy to make a ton of tiny shots just to line yourself up perfectly to sink an enemy into the lava. I feel like the game should encourage more challenging shots. Secondly, the physics are wonky. I can never predict how i'm going to bounce off walls. Once, my player bounced off a wall at about 45 degree angle, and bound dircetly back to where he was shot from. Hitting enemies at an angle doesn't make them bounce how you would expect in real life.

I still like this game though. Its addictive! Well done. <3

Caribbean Trains by Aviland 2018-04-25T03:22:15Z

Simple and fun! The graphics are super neat too. The reflections off the water are a nice touch. I do have some criticisms though. First off, the physics can interfere with the controls. If you are hauling a large number of cars and you try to turn, the physics will try to resist you turning. Second, The gameplay is just a tad slow. I realize ship games are normally slow, but the slow pace made me lose interest quickly. Lastly, STICKY KEYS. This is not a real complaint, but I found myself tapping shift a lot, and it kept trying to turn on sticky keys. ghaliroughaelighueg Still, well done! :)

Delve by riordan 2018-04-27T02:02:44Z

Well done of this game! The graphics were clean and the controls felt perfect. It was quite fun! I wish there were sound effects, specifically notifying you of a stat about to cause a problem. Otherwise, this game was great!

ELLIPTRICS by Amman 2018-04-24T03:13:08Z

Right now, I don't understand what the goal of this game is... Not sure how to judge it.

Quick Down by Hugimugi7 2018-04-24T14:05:41Z

Great game! The graphics are simple but elegant, as is the gameplay. It would be nice if you zoomed the camera out a bit, though. Still, fantastic job!

Maze Ship by GeroX 2018-04-24T04:11:48Z

There are a lot of things that can be improved in this game. For example, The controls are glitchy and unresponsive sometimes. They don't even recognize diagonal movement.

Ultimately, the game didn't really keep my attention. Walking around and reading text with no choices or challenges isn't really compelling to me. Maybe i'm just weird.

I hope you keep working on this though. I would love to see it improved!

Starbreak by Balduvian Dead 2018-04-25T05:48:06Z

Super addicting! Very well made and polished.

For some reason, holding the W key makes my game lag... not sure why.

What did you use to make this?

Fish Fighter by GiovanniBarrottu 2018-04-24T04:19:41Z

I can see some really cool ideas, but small issues and glitches are holding this game back. With a little polish and hotfixes, I could see myself playing this for a while.

Z for Zentipede by Rubber Duck Coder 2018-04-27T01:49:06Z

Very well done! Everything was polished and felt complete. The graphics were amazing! Apparently I am really bad at centipede. :P

PORTABOY by Lumpy 2018-04-26T18:59:39Z

Holy shit I am bad at these minigames. I love this game! The graphics are really detailed, the music and sound effects are perfect, and the gameplay is frantic. My only complaint is that the game feels like it is going at quadruple speed. Some of these minigames require reaction times of a ninja.

From the Breach by erebus 2018-04-26T04:24:25Z

Very well done! I had fun playing this one.

Positives: - The car physics were the best car physics I have seen so far. - I like the enemies a lot. Their animations are impressive, and the screenshake/booms of their footsteps are a nice touch. - The intro effects are really damn cool. - The voice lines are really high quality and pretty decent. :)

Negatives: - My main complaint is that the enemies move too fast. If they pass you, there is almost nothing you can do. You just have to hope that the turrets you set previously are enough. - Having to stop to activate/upgrade a turret breaks the flow of the game. It would be cool if there was a mechanic where you could drive through a turret to upgrade it without stopping. - The music wasn't too bad, but it did get repetitive. - The rails on all the platforms felt limiting. There were times where I wanted to drive off or turn around, and the inhibited me. It felt un-needed.

Over all, I really liked this game! You guys did a great job!

Hopscotch by jcgamedev 2018-04-24T05:27:48Z

Amazing game! My roommate and I had a blast with this. The mechanics are simple and easy to pick up, but have enough depth so that it is fairly competitive.

Some negatives: -The controls for selecting a gun were a bit wonky. Sometimes a gun would be on your right, but the button you would need to press select it would be the up button. Whyyy? -In many of the levels, its easy to fall as soon as your turn starts. This wouldn't be as much of a problem if the camera didn't move. If you had a static camera showing the entire level, the player would always know exactly where they are and where the platforms are before it switches to their turn.

These are only minor complaints though. I love it!

Hopscotch by jcgamedev 2018-04-25T04:51:12Z

@jcgamedev I really do think that this could turn into a really cool party game. This is easily one of the best games I have played so far. If you continue working on it, I would love to hear more from you!

Also, what is the possibility that controller support could be added? :)

Motorhell by Shelvid 2018-04-24T04:14:17Z

Shuffle Climber by miroky 2018-04-27T02:18:13Z

On one end, the pixel art and music is fantasic. I just adore it. On the other end, the gameplay is a nightmare. Way too RNG based, and the delay after picking a card is massive. There are even moments where it simply doesn't give you the card you need to progress.

Tower Rancher by PaperbackGorilla 2018-04-24T03:34:44Z

Fantastic job! I honestly think this is an improvement to tower defense as a genre. ;)

Super Soccer by comenoha 2018-04-27T03:27:48Z

Fantastic game. I played this one for quite a while!

I think it would be cool to have more advanced AI. Right now, they all clump up and go for the ball, which is a bit annoying.

Ultimate Hero Simulator by antvelm 2018-04-27T02:26:28Z

really well done! This game was engaging and creative. The artwork was fantastic too!

The only thing I would fix is the problem with standing ontop of food pickups.

Cosmic Cadence by Bodaciouslycrazy 2018-04-24T04:25:21Z

@leonard Thank you for the feedback! I hope you liked it.

As for the rhythm, there was not much I could do. I didn't make the music myself, I don't know music theory. I was limited in my choice of songs, and this was one of the best choices I had. For me, its really easy to find the beat in the music, but that is only because I am a percussionist: I am used to finding the beat in a lot of songs. In the future, I will make sure the song has a heavy kick drum on the downbeat to make it obvious.

Cosmic Cadence by Bodaciouslycrazy 2018-04-25T13:58:50Z

@GiovanniBarrottu thank you for the feedback! I definitely think that the rhythm could use some improvement too. I think adding a calibration screen might help. Thank you for playing!

Cosmic Cadence by Bodaciouslycrazy 2018-04-25T22:42:38Z

@Moski Thank you so much for the feedback! Believe it or not, Crypt of the Necrodancer was one of the inspirations I had for making this.

As for the boss, I feel that his mechanic was unclear to players. In order to damage him once you need to hit 3 shots consecutively. Since he changes color every time you shoot him, you have have really good reactions to shoot the right color on the next beat. If you shoot the wrong color, or you miss the beat, your combo is broken and you will not deal damage to him. Looking back on this, I felt like there wasn't enough feedback to let the player know whether they are fighting him correctly. I have actually modified him in my current version to fix this. Now, hitting him will deal one damage as normal, but if you miss a consecutive shot, his health will immediately reset back to full health. This means that each shot, you can actually see his health going down, and when you miss a shot, you can see it go back up. This also means that you only need one "combo" to kill him, apart from three in the original version. I'm not sure if I should upload these changes, would that be against the rules of LD?

Again, thank you so so much. Btw, that twitter link in your message doesn't work. :( I would love to keep in touch with you guys! <3

@jcgamedev Thank you so much for the feedback! I'll keep that in mind. I might change the color of the small bullets to stand out more. :)

Pretty good! I agree with @superpokeunicorn though that the controls were a bit weird. Having to take a thumb off the right stick to jump was annoying. Otherwise, smart game.

Pretty solid game. I like the art particularly. I wish there was a description of the differences of each room type. I filled up the entire screen pretty quick. Apparently you can even build rooms above the screen, but you can't see them. :P
