LD48 — Deeper and deeper

The Greed of the Dwarves by CocaPasteque 2021-04-26T19:33:06Z

First of all : linking the depth of greed with the depth of the earth was a great idea. This works really well with the theme, the concept and the atmosphere. The art is gorgeous and the music pleasant (did not grow tired of it).

Didn't find the second ending, I suppose it's to reach a certain amount of gems dug ? On my second playthrough I tried to max motivation but that didn't lead to any ending. I was expecting the dwarves to just be happy drinking and living together on the surface (Hahaha!)

Placing the structures is painful process since there is no feedback to indicate whether or not you can put something. I had to try again and again... Every time. Maybe automatically place them for the player (since the placing doesn't matter) or add a subtle animation to indicate when/where to click (opacity for ex).

Also, it would be nice if digging diminishes motivation so you HAVE to build taverns.

Either way, I did 3 playthrough and had fun. A "replay button" would be nice at the end ;)

Descending by khofez 2021-04-27T12:49:18Z

Same as Abigail above, graphics are beautiful and impressive for a jam. Initial angel animation and use of lighting really set up the mood! Music is also good (volume was quite high for me though).

Jumps and attacks had smooth animations and polished, but as mentioned above, too many hits to kill enemies gets tiresome. Also most of them having the same pattern (going directly to you) makes it a tad repetitive.

But again, impressive piece of work for a jam! Congrats for the submission!

Deepest Sword by Strega 2021-04-27T13:37:19Z

Graphics are awesome, super original idea, nice music. Really impressive for a jam! Great work!

LD Double Feature: D'pur & Deepir by John Chapman 2021-04-27T12:13:23Z

Very fun and original concept! Gets tricky on higher speeds!

Reached 1,000ft, almost could not control the characters anymore :D

Pagemage by OrbitalBlueprint 2021-04-27T13:22:38Z

Super cool concept! Graphics work well with it and it feels great to go forward page by page. Nice enemy variety too.

As mentioned above, basic mob enemies were the hardest. Probably a bit too fast, especially when 3 of them gang up on you :D. Difficulty curve could probably be tweaked a bit.

Good game though, feels like a concept powerful enough you could potentially expand on a bigger scale game!

Upset Crab by 43sam 2021-04-30T11:25:04Z

Cool visuals and very innovative main character! Gameplay is simple but works well. Found it a bit too easy maybe, and a background music would have been nice.

Just Call Your Mom by willjardine 2021-04-27T14:10:58Z

Nice visuals, loved the little details in the background. Also refreshing to see a beat-them all!

Dumb Ways To Dive by Jonas Michael 2021-04-27T15:41:55Z

Cute art, relaxing music. Runs well too. Congrats on delivering :)

Bad Day to be a Bunny by joonamo 2021-04-26T18:17:53Z

Top notch artisitc direction ! The song is amazing, the cutscene hilarious, the good ending so darn cute, the art to die for. The gameplay is not very innovative but it is fun to play ! I love how it drag to represent the resistance of water. The randomizer of level allows for multiple playthroughs. Overall really fun gameplay.

I would advise removing the cutscene upon replaying. Seeing it once when launching the game is perfect. Having to skip it when replaying is a hindrance.

Once of the most polished games from this jam when it comes to looks and sounds. Nice job !

Lost In Couch by srknvrnbskrt 2021-04-26T18:44:16Z

Love to see the ragdoll physics applied in such a fun way. The concept is straight to the point and funny. The gameplay works well even with the mouse (played on desktop). Plenty of games I've played had you fall down in 2D. It's interesting to see that in 3D and it feels really nice and kinda poetic. The music was really chill and complemented it very well.

It was fun while it lasted but very short. It doesn't overstay its welcome. I wonder how you would have designed more levels to add new challenges. Would like to see that.

Deeper-Geddon by heidelbert 2021-04-30T12:19:05Z

Solid game! Mechanics are satisfying and clear, artwork and music are good. Thanks for making it!

DISPOSAL by EvilSock 2021-04-30T12:34:05Z

Mechanics are clear and artworks + music work great!

A bit too hard, and I felt like the main character missed an option to get out of the maze he made himself. Ability to add a block in front of him maybe? I wanted to guide the liquid but cooked myself every time in the process.

Still had quite a few tries at it, and it was pretty fun and challenging. Thanks for making this game!

Mine Flower by Denzil Gomes 2021-04-27T15:51:57Z

Got the flower! Basic mechanics are pretty good and work as intended. I can really see it expanded in a bigger game. Loved the rolling attack, and climbing with your axe feels good as well. Game teaches you the mechanics gradually pretty well and runs great!

L1-S0N by Beardmage 2021-04-27T14:59:57Z

Impressive art and mood. Controls felt great and worked well, gliding also worked perfectly. Great job!

6 Feet Under by theStoff 2021-04-28T14:15:52Z

Really good game. Basic mechanic is interesting & satisfying and leaves for fresh level design. Art looks good and fits well.

Have to admit it was too difficult for me to finish. Drilling speed too high, walking speed too low and too limited air control could use some tweaking I think. Also a few checkpoints could be welcome? But maybe I should just git gud :D.

Doesn't change anything to the quality of the game though, very well done and thanks for making it! Will try the post-game jam version when contest is over!

Way of the Lights by Becher 2021-04-28T14:54:05Z

Looks good, cool concept and interesting usages of the lightbulb!

A few things I found frustrating that could be easy fixes: - ladders being usable or not is not super clear looks-wise - I found a few shortcuts... that I could use only once due to the state of the game not changing - you die right away when you set a lightbulb? I see the logic but it kills your run.

Cool base and concept though, would like to see where it can expand!

20.000 LIGHT YEARS deep in THE SKY by Arivenzys 2021-04-28T13:33:40Z

As a French, absolutely loved the voice of the narrator! Planet art was gorgeous, overall mood was great and funny. Loved the background music. Thank you for making it!

Nav's Endless Nightmare by Zizhen96 2021-04-30T11:49:59Z

Art looks great, sound is good too!

It felt like one more trick to the main character's arsenal would have added a lot more depth. A more controllable jump, air dash or double jump maybe? Some generated were levels were impossible for me because of stalagmites in a row (can't jump over)

Blackout by Frasse 2021-04-30T11:12:45Z

Solid game. Well written, perfect pacing, music & art both impressive for a jam. Thank you for the enjoyable experience!

Just Photo Cat by RenatoL 2021-04-27T14:32:28Z

Models and environment look very well done. Impressive for a jam! Managed to take photos, tried to give it to the pigeon but no reaction, so gameplay-wise not clear as stated above. Still movement was smooth, art and music were great and I enjoyed the experience. Great work!

Deep Way To Basement by Usenrame 2021-04-26T18:55:40Z

Simple and fun ! Really nice ! Love to see people fall down the stairs ! Ragdoll animations are always a riot !

You also had the time to make 3D models and that's cool ! Why a dog and a wizard though ? XD

Maybe add the keyboard arrows as an option for controls. In my country, WASD is placed differently and it's a bit tricky to play.

Apart from that, I had lots of fun ! Thanks ;)

GOBLIN HAMBURGER LASER ARENA by youthfulIdealism 2021-04-26T18:33:30Z

Hey there ! Couldn't really play the game all that well because I do not have the same keyboard as you do. So pushing WASD feels really unatural to me. As a rule, I think you should always add the arrows as an option. A shame because I'd really like to play it seriously...

Avoiding goblins while looking at my keyboard is hard...

Btw, the laser is super fun. The knockback is a fantastic feedback. And the way it burns the arena is a really nice touch !

GOBLIN HAMBURGER LASER ARENA by youthfulIdealism 2021-04-27T13:54:06Z

@youthfulidealism thanks for arrow key support!

Replayed it, and again lasers are super satisfying. Had a blast!

Vulcan's Tomb by Simul 2021-04-27T15:01:52Z

Art looks very nice, and clearly differentiated environments are great. Also different attack patterns makes it fun to try and avoid them.

Overall I felt it was quite difficult though, especially from the lava level. Couldn't keep up with enemy patterns from then.

Am I only dreaming? by DerGamer 2021-04-26T16:02:41Z

Good atmosphere, piano tune is great! The flat design also has its charm.

As mentioned above, difficult to hear the voices under the sound.

Deep Sleep - The Sandman by VeryGenuineCraze 2021-04-27T14:03:10Z

SFX were hilarious, really sounded like you had fun making them!

Thanks to that the game was surprisingly addictive and run smoothly. Nice work!

Dive! Dive! by John Harper 2021-04-27T13:07:57Z

Nice and simple. Controls work well in tandem with the submarine, right amount of gravity to feel in the water. I like the look of the submarine too.

Congrats on the submission!

Gemfall by TAIGHA 2021-04-27T11:59:40Z

Art and music are great, and music goes well with the theme!

However I played on PC, and accuracy with a mouse was not very good. A bit unprecise, while speed goes up quite fast. Also difficult to click on the buttons with effects (glider / shield effects) while controlling the character. I might have missed instructions though, couldn't find where to switch languages and can't read Russian.

I still think you got a nice foundation here and with some polish it can become a very nice game! Congrats on the submission!

Deep into the vibe by Ariorick 2021-04-27T14:20:05Z

Music is really nice, looks good and runs great! Rotation is fresh too.

Dungeon Painter by IanTheBee 2021-04-28T13:22:39Z

Very nice concept, works well and entertaining to the end! New mechanics come at the right pacing. Found the difficulty just right.

If I had to make (minor) comments: SFX volume is a bit high compared to the calm music (dying one). Also found it a teeny bit tedious to re-paint the level every time I died, though I can understand the choice. Paint disappearing gradually with a timer might work?

Anyways great game, had fun! Thanks for making it!

Caves of the Forgotten by CorbenG 2021-04-27T11:45:11Z

Enjoyed the ride! Art looks great, animations are beautiful and the zelda-like climbing is satisfying. The skeletons added a very nice touch on the mood.

I believe a background music, even a very simple one, would have complemented your art nicely!
