I think you saved the page as a draft instead of public. I couldn't access your game.

purplealien 2021-04-26 10:48

Same thing as @fabighindaru D:

ville 2021-04-26 10:49

Same thing for me, the game link gives me a 404, can't access.

the-g 2021-04-26 13:40

Same for me too, can't access it

khofez 2021-04-26 16:25

Sorry guys I marked the game as Jam before it was finished. I'm still finishing it!

Edit: The game is done now!

khofez 2021-04-26 23:27

@fabighindaru @purplealien @ville @the-g Sorry about that, now the game is live! You guys can try it!

kirby 2021-04-27 02:34

Great game. YOUR ARTWORK IS SO AMAZING AAAAAAAAA.

wisedawn 2021-04-27 02:37

Great atmosphere!

therdre 2021-04-27 02:40

This is pretty good. Art is great and gameplay is very polished. The only thing was that sometimes the game would be too dark at places, but it also felt that was somehow intentional?

cireneikual222464 2021-04-27 02:42

Great graphics, the controls feel a bit strange though. I can also spam the attack button as fast as my finger will let me. The art is incredible though!

gonzalo-antuna 2021-04-27 02:49

Awesome art, but the gameplay gets a little bit boring too fast, you can spam the attack button as much as you want. Aside from that, I really liked the theme overall ^^.

khill 2021-04-27 02:52

The mood of the game was really good. Which made it look super appealing most of the time. At times it would get in the way of the gameplay because I couldn't see where I was or the enemies. The gameplay was super easy because I could spam the attack button and it would beat people easily. But the boss fight is where it got pretty fun. With the boss it felt like I had to actively dodge his attacks which was pretty fun. Super impressive for 72 hours

abigailcorfman 2021-04-27 02:54

Absolutely beautiful graphics. Also the idea of following an angel falling into hell is deeply poetic. I like it a lot.

The gameplay was satisfying, but the enemies took so many hits to kill that it got kind of tiresome to hack at them. And some of your utterly gorgeous foreground set-pieces blocked my ability to see what was going on. Maybe move them to a back layer so that the player and enemies are always visible?

Also liked the ambient music.

neowhoru 2021-04-27 12:36

The mood and artstyle are REALLY impressive. good work.

iluvatar 2021-04-27 12:37

I have very mixed feelings about this game. I totally loved it, but I experienced some technical issues. Unfortunately the game ran like 10-15 fps for me, so sometimes it was almost unplayable and resulted in uneccessary deaths. But other than that. BOY! The artstyle is straight from heaven (get it?). It is just unbelievable you guys managed to make something like this in 72 hours. The animations and overall atmosphere feels just as if I played fully flashed video game. If I saw this game outside of Ludum Dare event, I would think it is a full game. Just incredible.

bidentworks 2021-04-27 12:49

Same as Abigail above, graphics are beautiful and impressive for a jam. Initial angel animation and use of lighting really set up the mood! Music is also good (volume was quite high for me though).

Jumps and attacks had smooth animations and polished, but as mentioned above, too many hits to kill enemies gets tiresome. Also most of them having the same pattern (going directly to you) makes it a tad repetitive.

But again, impressive piece of work for a jam! Congrats for the submission!

landerack 2021-04-27 12:56

looks great first of all! you guys did kinda overdo it with the shadows, meaning the player may rely a little too much on waiting for the thunder to get awareness of their surrounding for the platforming parts. Other than that the gameplay has a few issues, its a little unclear what to do and the attack spamming sadly also leaves something to be desired (naturally this isn't a dealbreaker, it's a gamejam, and it looks great). The one thing that did make me quit was that at some point the darkness left me without seeing there was a small drop, which then became a big drop, and I tough, oooh I'm going after the angel maybe? and then I died, which was also the first time falling damage was introduced, I'd likely have halted my speed were I to have known falling damage was a thing. all things said, excellent entry and well done :) love the fibes

peco 2021-04-27 12:56

The graphics and ambiance were next level :D Great job

krebzor 2021-04-27 12:57

I love the idea of the fallen angel!! I love it.

The gameplay the art and the music are very blasphemous and I love it, however I agreed that some enemies take more time to kill so it gets a little bit boring. And maybe I have to play it more so i can get used to the map because i really lost at some point.

But other than that very nice, i love the dark effect in the castle.

phanelly 2021-04-27 13:19

The game is simply marvelous. Everyone can see it. Amazing graphics, music, character design and mood. Some noticed that the combat system was lacking, but I think it's still pretty good for jam. Kinda lacking also the level design, but still impressive for a 72h span.

Just to be clear, I really loved the mood. If you were to develop and improve this game, I would certainly buy it.

binaryprinciple 2021-04-27 13:19

I lost the track fo time playing it, reminded me of Blasphemous. The gameplay is tight, the artstyle a looker and the atmosphere spot on. I honestly cannot think of anything negative, except drop frames but that's understandable with the lighting and enemy AI (and quantity) on view. Excellent game!

khofez 2021-04-27 13:41

Thank you all for the nice comments! We did overdo with the darkness a little more than we should, and also the art of the game is a composition made out of free assets from itch.io and the asset store, the only thing that was drawn was the character. But I'm really it ended up well!

batuoz 2021-04-27 13:52

wooow great entrance, and the lights are great. I loved the feel of darknes. When you are in the shadows it fells unsafe. Maybe the enemies healths can be lower. Great job . Please check my game too :)

tentaclemax 2021-04-27 20:25

Great job, awesome game!

aaranos 2021-04-27 23:33

Amazing job for a weekend project. The game gave me Castlevania vibes from the appearance. The combat mechanics all work, some enemies seemed to be a bit more difficult than others to kill. The nightmare horse looked like a magic doorway since it wasn't moving so walked right into it.

decrementedpalindrome 2021-04-28 13:13

Nice game! I liked the atmospheric graphics, especially the sparks when attacking, though it was a bit dark at times as other people have said. There seemed to be some slight input lag on the web version but everything was fine in the download.

wolderado 2021-04-28 13:42

Really impressive atmosphere! Graphics are really nice but gameplay-wise I think it needs a little bit more mechanics other than just spamming hit. I kinda had a hard time seeing if I killed the monster I fought or not. A little light during the hit animation could help. The particle effects are really nice too!

todward 2021-04-28 13:51

Dark and bloody gameplay supported by sacral music. Whats missing? Having a guitar for fighting the devil by playing "Tenacious D" :-D

tom-robson 2021-04-28 13:58

The art and atmosphere in this are incredible - for one person in <72 hours, that's impressive!

Though, it does come at the cost of the gameplay feeling a little weak. The movement is floaty, which is my main complaint; but the combat also feels a little weak at times - you've got a good foundation on that, but I think maybe some more bass-heavy hit sound effects might help sell it?

Overall though, I'm nit-picking, this is a stellar entry and you should be proud!

Just an ending note: I saw you say that most of the art was sourced rather than created, with an exception being the character. The character turned out awesome, and was by far my favourite art piece! If you develop this further, I'd love to see what you could do with a whole game.

sawtan 2021-04-28 20:02

This game is absolutely stunning when it comes to the graphics, I feel that it could have become a super great game if it got a bit more time and love (don't we all have that problem at these events ey?).

I do think other people have pointed this out, the game mechanics could have needed some attention, being blocked by health potions because you are at full health is a bit of a bugger for instance :D And maybe the lightning effects are a bit to high on contrast, a lighter dark with some details always shining through might have fixed that perhaps?

And maybe a bit more linear level design, right now it feels like I can go pretty much anywhere to reach the bottom, and you end up dodging most of the enemies on the way down, without having any punishment for doing so.

Feels like I'm putting down a lot of criticism here, but it's only because I think this could become great if it gets a couple of days more on it's neck! So great entry all in all! Good job mate! Cheerz!

zimny11 2021-04-28 20:45

This is just amazing! Great work. Everything: music, pixel art, sounds, animation, controls... It really needs to go on and get turn into a full Triple-A indie game! :)

tarcisiotm 2021-04-29 03:39

What a solid entry! Really polished, liked the atmosphere, controls well. Good job!

obrunomarques 2021-04-29 06:52

Great game ! Loved the OST and art , one of the best entries I've seen

narom42 2021-04-29 19:23

Good entry, I won't repeat what everyone told before me. Really nice graphics and mood, theme idea is really nice, a bit repetitive, being blocked by potions could have been avoided. But it's a pretty solid entry and a good job !!

azakharov 2021-04-30 08:29

Oh, that was a really big job. It looks like the metroidvania I want to play. Pixel art is great. But the game needs to work on the light. Most of the level is too dark.

cameron-paxton 2021-04-30 17:27

Excellent atmosphere, and a surprising variety of enemy types! Felt it was a bit to dark in places, though maybe that was intentional. Sometimes it was difficult to figure out what was causing me damage, or how to get out of some of the dead end rooms (the little ledges are just low enough to catch you every time unless you do a super tiny jump). But overall a really great result for the amount of time!

marcionix 2021-04-30 17:50

A lot of work here! Specially in graphics and sounds! An atmospheric dark adventure! I just miss something to illuminate the protagonist and his immediate surroundings

timo-gass 2021-05-03 18:21

Great looking game. I really love the mood of it. I think some kind of tutorial would be great. On my first run I made it half way through to the boss without even knowing how to attack :D

I got lost on my way down, too. Maybe the leveldesign could be improved a little bit.

shakedimus 2021-05-04 07:20

The music and graphics were really epic, the intro with the angel falling was also really cool but for me the darkness made it almost unplayable. I couldn't see the platforms and could barely see the enemies. The attack was cool but a bit repetitive some kind of combo or variation would be cool. I wanted to see the ending but I didn't making because I kept falling to my death because I couldn't see where I was going. The jumping and attack mechanics were also really smooth. Well done on a really solid entry but I would really ease of on the darkness or have a slider in settings because I guess it also depends a lot on your monitor and lighting conditions. Also I think there's a bug if you keep attacking an enemy it keeps looking bloody so you think it's still alive but they are actually already dead.

super-hadoken 2021-05-04 10:36

Awesome visuals and audio creating a very atmospheric game, perhaps a bit too dark. Really impressive entry.

garys 2021-05-11 23:27

Awesome graphics and setting, but like some others I found it way too dark to really see what was going on. The enemy sprites are lovely, but so dark against the background I usually couldn't see them until I'd run headlong into them! Movement feels nice, fast paced and fun. I think you could probably expand on this with some bigger levels and a story line. In terms of the level construction, I really had no idea where I was going, other than that I wanted to go _down_. Often I found myself just falling into the unknown abyss, with a view to randomly double jump a bit further down in the hopes I'd hit a platform. It seemed to work, but didn't feel intuitive. Perhaps a mini-map would be helpful? I found the boss way too easy - though I was glad of it, since I didn't much fancy having to start again at the very top! I don't know if the boss marked a continue point, but that would have been a good touch. All in all, a great entry and worthy of spending some more time on.

asdehielo 2021-05-11 23:56

This game has the most insane visuals I've seen so far. The gameplay is very satisfying. The music is cool and helps build the mood. The sound effects were high quality, but they were very repetitive, specially the hit and jump voice lines.

Some suggestions: - The potions shouldn't block the character, otherwise you risk getting stuck on the more narrow passages. - The enemy health seemed a bit off: the "fat" enemies were dying in 3 hits while the "skinny" enemies were dying in 4. Usually you want the weaker-seeming enemies to die faster. - I defeated the boss but nothing happened, it just brought me back to the beginning. I'm assuming there's no ending because of the lack of time, but maybe an end screen would have been enough.

Very cool game, I can appreciate the amount of work that went into this. Keep it up!

legavroche 2021-05-12 04:12

This game is so incredibly polished. Everything from the sprites, animation, audio, etc just ooze quality. The attack sounds were a bit too loud imo and became a bit grating over time. I also felt the movement was too floaty. The acceleration from sideways movements was difficult to judge and I found myself hitting into enemies often.

sublustris 2021-05-12 06:07

Чумовая игра. Графика просто огонь! 5/5 Поставил бы и 6, но нет такой оценки к сожалению :)

gamescodedogs 2021-05-12 06:09

I really loved the visuals, that’s an eye candy.

ddrkirbyisq 2021-05-12 06:41

Pretty "cool" visuals, but not very readable. Please consider gameplay first when you are thinking about your visual design! Your game should be easily playable even with a grayscale filter applied.

Glad I tried the downloadable version, it performs way better and nicer than the html5 version!

chrissx2 2021-05-12 08:39

Really stunning visual tho i hope you'll add some rim lights to the enemies in future updates :p. Glady the game wasn't really punishing when it comes to enemy dmg. The whole thing gives me Diablo 3 vibe with Tyrael falling through the catedral :)

some other things i would like to see being improved :

- you can ignore 90% of the mobs and go straight to the bottom of the map - many rooms had this small ledge that blocked the player and when you tried to jump over it, you hit the frame of the door (small thing, but when it happens often, can be quite annoying :p) - it would be nice if the attack range was slighly larger than its visual representation - right now i feel like it's other way around - in few places i feelt like i had to guess if i should jump or not.

Overall the sound and art created fantastic atmosphere. I would play more of it in the future. GJ guys.

yword 2021-05-12 09:15

Wow, this game is really stylish, the pixel arts and lighting are very good too!

digital-bacon 2021-05-12 11:47

Very dark and moody game, with some gorgeous graphics. Sound was a little off-putting, but I guess it was supposed to be

Only a couple of possible bugs: * when on full health, you can't pick up the health bottles and they become almost obstacles. In one part of the level (the first time I encountered one of the horses), I had full health so I couldn't collect the potion. Unfortunately, it was in a low corridor, which meant I couldn't jump over it; the only way to make progress was to slowly push it until I got into the next room, and then I could jump over it. * game got stuck in a loop after defeating the final boss, running towards the right-hand side of the screen into one of the wall pieces; no response to any keypresses except Escape  I was looking forward to what came next!

Apart from these two annoyances, I thoroughly enjoyed your game. Well done!

prof-suarez 2021-05-12 13:35

I had to download, my html5 wasn't loading. Aside from that, very good aesthetic. I thought the audio was nice, with the lightning effect helping to pace the game. Everything works great. Adding boss music to prompt him being nearby is one suggestion I could come up with.

fishmasterino 2021-05-12 13:38

Very nice graphics, and smooth animations. The diversity in enemies is nice visually, but I felt it didn't really matter gameplay wise. The lighting looks great, and I think I get what you were going for with the occasional thunder, but it still felt frustrating not seeing where I was going the majority of the time.

someone 2021-05-12 18:02

Exceptional artwork, and solid gameplay. I really enjoyed playing through this a couple of times. The lack of an ending sequence was a bit jarring considering the high quality of the rest. The small rooms with trellises over the entrances could be a bit awkward to get out of as you have to jump and often end up standing on a block over the entrance.

cyriaque 2021-05-14 07:30

Wow the artstyle is truly amazing, this gave me some castlevania/ dead-cells feels

gord10ahmet 2021-05-14 19:17

Amazing visuals and audio, it's polished enough to be a Steam game!

When I defeated the demon, nothing happened, the game froze. Then the game restarted Was it normal or did I miss something?

andreas-roschal 2021-05-14 22:50

The artwork, visual effects and audio are really superb, and the game has a great atmosphere. It definitely shows that most of your efforts went into those aspects. The combat gameplay could use a little more depth. Having only one attack action and no combos or anything feels a bit repetitive very quickly, but it's also understandable considering the time constraint of the jam. All in all very impressive entry and it's definitely among the visually best looking ones I've played so far.

kenlee 2021-05-17 05:15

I love this type of artwork And Gameplay

joe40001 2021-05-17 06:42

You got right what many LD games struggle with art/mood/gamefeel. The controls, mood, and visuals are basically perfect. When it comes to the game itself it's simple but effect, my only bummer was that after beating the final boss nothing much happens, just a little light from above and nothing else that I could see.

Still very impressive. I'd be curious how you managed to get such effective art/controls in such a short time. Well done!

2021-05-17 07:53

Where can i play the original jam version? I can only find a version from 29th, a few days after the submission deadline. And did you really create all the audio yourself? Usually it should be opted out if you used pre made audio form someone else.

devmerlin 2021-05-17 09:44

VERY nice work! The atmosphere heavily reminds me of Blackthorne... combat was a little easy until getting to the demon, and then it suddenly felt like Dark Souls 2D.

juan-matias 2021-05-17 10:10

Hey looks awesome!. I can only play the HTML5 version (no windows). When I tried to leave the first platform, it fell all the way through to the ground and game over.

kotzi 2021-05-17 13:00

Amazing game! I felt some Blasphemous vibes, really cool mood. The gameplay could be polished a bit more, but you have a nice base. The web version works a bit laggy and sometimes only played the music (this was maybe related to changing it to fullscreen, but I'm not sure).

holyblackcat 2021-05-17 20:00

Insanely ambitious graphics! You've paid for it with a general lack of polish though. :P

guitarbro 2021-05-18 02:25

Definitely getting some Castlevania/Blasphemous vibes. Nice aesthetics and fitting music. The SFX were kinda cheesy but it worked well enough. The impact of the attacks felt great, I just wish there was a little more depth instead of just spamming X on every enemy (at least the boss fight made you jump around a bit).

Overall, pretty solid entry. Well done.

abdul-zakkar 2021-05-18 02:59

The art here is very well put together with some great post-processing! Love the enemy variety and the attack animation/particles as well :)

kram 2021-05-18 04:41

Fun game. Would murder Satan again.

javicoder 2021-05-18 10:04

this artstyle is amazing, very nice and crisp pixel art. Mood and music are great too

aaants 2021-05-18 15:16

Hey, just saw this on the Into Games Discord. It looks and sounds great, really strong mood. Good job!

nekopi 2021-05-18 16:16

Generally a pretty solid game, although I'd add some lighting to the main character so that it's a bit easier to navigate throughout some dark places

cavedens 2021-05-18 16:38

Beautiful game for the amount of time given. I got my butt kicked by Satan

szkocka 2021-05-18 17:11

Standalone soundtrack, please <3

chertkov 2021-05-18 17:57

Very happy to have given this game a go

anuke 2021-05-18 18:25

- As many others have said, the atmosphere & lighting graphics are very well done. However, the inconsistent pixel scaling on some of the sprites (esp. candle brackets) really bothers me for some reason. - The level design is... somewhat confusing. There are too many routes down, and most of them are very similar. - The attack effects are nice, but combat generally devolves into me standing still and spamming attacks while the enemy charges and dies. Would have been nice to see more enemy patterns. - I was able to defeat the boss by walking up to him and mashing the attack key - no dodging required. - Some enemies can be hard to spot against the background.

villanelle 2021-05-18 19:11

This gave me true Castlevania vibes, the graphics and lighting are superb, how did you manage to do it in a weekend? Just can't figure it out hahaha I had some struggle with the level design at the beginning, and thats mostly my only thing to point out as, maybe, an adjustment for the future of this game. The mechanics are simple and fluid, and all the sound effects were great. This game has so much detail in it that I couldn't be more impressed. Truly loved it, congratulations on your work because its amazing.
