LD46 — Keep it alive

Leafy Hero by Guilb 2020-04-22T17:48:18Z

I really like the style of the game, the graphics, sound, and animations are all good and work well together and the tutorial is cute! The hitboxes were a bit small for my liking and I often missed the little blobs by a few pixels when trying to move them. Overall I think it's a good, well polished game. (Though I do have one _bug_ report, you can both lose and win at the same time if you win during the losing animation)

Tunnel Vision by Avi 2020-04-30T22:21:07Z

I like the graphical style and the audio fits it well. The tunnel generation is cool, I've been wanting to implement 3D perlin noise for ages but still haven't gotten around to it. Once I found a big enough space outside of the starting area I could go around in circles forever, perhaps increasing the ship's speed over time could stop that and add some progression to the game.

Terraform Mars by TK07 2020-05-11T22:44:08Z

Great game! I really like the graphics and audio and the gameplay isn't bad either, though it got repetitive after a while. The description is nicely formatted and is supplemented by an informative but unobtrusive in-game tutorial both of which I like but are often missed in jam games.

S for Squad by Asue 2020-04-26T20:38:32Z

Nice game, with great graphics and audio. In situations where I just wanted to shoot someone it was annoying having to use up all of my movement first so an end turn button would be nice. Other than that the gameplay was decent, if shallow, and the game seems more polished than others in some aspects which is nice.

Feed It Grapes, Keep It Alive by Mike Burns 2020-04-23T22:34:07Z

Nice simple game. It works well. b**L**ue for **L**eft and **R**ed for **R**ight would have felt more intuitive for me.

Convaser by DecrementedPalindrome 2020-04-24T23:56:31Z

Thank you to everyone for the useful feedback!

I agree that it should be more obvious when the player is hit, I'll add a sound when I develop it further, somehow that never occurred to me during the jam. I might also make the screen flash as well but there's already a lot going on visually so I'd want to be careful with adding more visual cues.

I'm not sure how to make the hitboxes more obvious while keeping the glowing look of the orbs, I've been a little lenient with them for that reason so hopefully there should be more cases where you thought you should have lost a life but didn't than cases where you thought you shouldn't have lost a life but did.

The motion sickness seems to affect some people more than others. I think adding a decreased motion option where the conveyors don't move forwards and only point in the direction they are pushing would be a good idea, I'll have to get some other people to test that if I implement it since it doesn't affect me personally.

A curl noise field would be interesting! I haven't seen that before. Sadly it wouldn't work with the way I'm doing the conveyors at the moment. It could be an interesting opportunity to learn some new things further down the road, but I doubt I'll get the time to look at that any time soon.

A few people have mentioned that they really like the music and I would like to clarify that I did not make the music in this game - The song is Straw Fields by Rolemusic which is licenced under a Creative Commons BY license and is available here: https://www.freemusicarchive.org/music/Rolemusic/Straw_Fields/03_rolemusic_-_straw_fields. I'm glad I picked a good song though :). I put credits in the bottom right corner of the menu screen, but maybe I should make it a bit more obvious with how much the music adds to the game.

LD48 — Deeper and deeper

Descending by khofez 2021-04-28T13:13:05Z

Nice game! I liked the atmospheric graphics, especially the sparks when attacking, though it was a bit dark at times as other people have said. There seemed to be some slight input lag on the web version but everything was fine in the download.

Space?Space!SPACE by Meta-link 2021-05-14T13:47:28Z

Nice game! I got about 26,000ly before running out of fuel. The controls feel great (with a gamepad) and I like how the fuel doesn't go down when I'm not moving. Some sound would have improved the game, even just some simple explosion and powerup sound effects generated with sfxr.

DeepSea by Chensu 2021-05-15T20:15:35Z

I have mostly the same feedback as other people :). I really liked the graphics and general ambiance of the game but the controls were unintuitive - I expect the mouse to control yaw instead of roll. One thing that I haven't seen anyone else mention is that I found it difficult to visually tell where the surface was.

Viper Mission One by Majadroid 2021-04-28T13:55:03Z

I liked the sounds and models. I found it difficult to tell what I was aiming at though, maybe some sort of laser sight on the ship would help?

Quantum Genesis Hyperspeed Space Redux by Tim Leach 2021-04-29T23:41:53Z

I like the art style and voices. The controls actually worked exactly how I would expect them to work in a game like this, although the camera focusing on the rings instead of the ship when I got close made it feel like they weren't working properly even though I think they were.

We Must Go Deeper by Vederant 2021-04-28T14:47:19Z

The 3d graphics were beautiful and the and the gameplay was really different to anything I've seen before. There didn't seem to be a way to quit after I won though?

In Too Deep by RefraX295 2021-04-28T14:22:37Z

That was fun! I got 4105. the large differences in scores that people are reporting suggests that there's some strategy involved in getting the higher scores which often isn't the case with games put together in 48 hours, so well done there. Building out a large base makes it feel like I've accomplished something and I like the visual style of the game - it's very clean. As others have said some it would be nice to have some audio and more variety in the units/buildings. I'd also like some way of differentiating between the score and credit deposits after I've built a miner on them.

Rootss by antonishig 2021-05-15T19:43:22Z

This is a cool idea. I didn't find the controls too difficult after I realized that I can't continue from the end of an existing root, but it took a while to figure that out.

Positives: * The graphics were nice, especially the detail of the roots getting thicker. * The audio, while perhaps not to everyone's tastes, is much better than the silence that a lot of games have. * The balance of the game felt right.

Negatives/possible improvements: * The controls were a bit awkward. If the arrows that are in the help section showed up in game when dragging I think that would help. * Using numbers for the stats makes it hard to see them at a glance. Having a more visual representation of the water reserves/consumption and depth would be nice. * The scroll speed seems to be linked to the refresh rate of the monitor. On a standard 60Hz monitor it's fine but on a high refresh rate 144Hz monitor it scrolls too fast to be easily controlled.

Belly O' The Worm by fyslexicduck 2021-05-08T16:46:47Z

I like the graphics and the game is a nice length for a jam. I agree with some of the previous comments that it would be nice to have more feedback when being hit/hitting something.

LD49 — Unstable

SIRTET by Aggrathon 2021-10-20T23:44:54Z

Great game! The graphics are good, the sounds are decent, and the gameplay is engaging. The tower seems to pop out of the grid after a while which makes things more difficult, it doesn't really make it less fun but it seems unintentional. Multiple levels is more content than I expect from a compo game :)

Stabilized by dylanilvento 2021-10-17T20:31:07Z

I like the game, it's a nice simple concept that's been executed well, I especially like the graphical style. It feels like it can be quite dependant on luck sometimes though - I always want the higher valued items to drop. My highest score was 490!

Meltdown by Roka Josh 2021-10-20T22:26:41Z

Great game! If this was released as a web game I wouldn't guess that it was made in only 72 hours. The voices were good and I liked the overall look and feel of the game. The main menu could perhaps do with some sprucing up, it's a bit bland at the moment.

Topplecrown by caeonosphere 2021-10-14T17:34:03Z

Very well presented game! The AI was challenging enough to be fun but not frustrating, the graphics and audio work well, and there is quite a bit of content for a jam game. I like it!

Floemobile by DecrementedPalindrome 2021-10-04T21:36:06Z

I would have loved to add a leaderboard, alas there was not enough time. My best time so far is 44.12 BestTime.png

Floemobile by DecrementedPalindrome 2021-10-20T22:04:30Z

Thanks for the feedback everyone! @skleembof (and everyone else who found the handling difficult) I definitely agree that driving experience isn't as good as it could be. The reason for that bug that you encountered where the vehicle seems to randomly stick to the ice is that the ice is actually a shader which means it has no collision. There is an invisible collider under the snowmobile that uses the same equations as the shader to work out its height and angle. I was surprised that that worked at all to be honest, but I think that it's pretty cool that it does! It does have a couple of flaws though, the main one being that the floor is _moving with the vehicle_ which messes with the friction of everything and makes it harder to make things feel right on both the ice floe and dry land (which has normal collision). The other problem - the one that causes the stickiness bug - is that when you are trying to drive uphill in the same direction as the waves the ground is constantly moving away from you, which means that the snowmobile can't get any traction and seems to be stuck. I tried to design the map so that you are usually on dry land when going in that direction but there are still some sections where it happens.

I think if I were to expand the game I would make it so that there is different physics on the ice vs on dry land so that I can tune them better and I'd use less of the ice, perhaps with smaller waves as well. If anyone knows how to efficiently make a real collider with a changing shape like this then please let me know! Here's a gif of an early development version where you can still see the collider :) FloemobilePrototype.gif

This Is A Stable Game by crotonyl_alcohol 2021-10-14T18:07:27Z

I wasn't expecting much based on the graphics but it's actually quite a good game! The mechanic is interesting and I think the difficulty scaled well after the confusion of the first few levels (the first level could definitely do with a "press space to continue" prompt). The graphics work well on their own but there isn't a consistent style - the character and portal are line drawings, the platforms are block colours and the background is a gradient - which tends to be the case with Asset Store assets.

Unstable flowers by Adroman 2021-10-21T00:06:50Z

Nice game! I agree with most of the feedback that you've got so far. I didn't realise that I could upgrade towers until I read marbles' comment :). I liked the graphics of the game, especially the fact that towers change when they are upgraded. The UI graphics don't really match the game but they still look clean. The fact that the enemies have to take the flowers back reminds me of Cursed Treasure.

UNSTABLE GROUNDS by Voodoo51 2021-10-17T21:09:29Z

I really like the graphics, the sounds effects are nice but the game could do with some music. The gameplay was simple but worked well enough. If I click on a tile towards the bottom of the screen it would be nice if the menu appeared above the mouse instead of below, sometimes it's completely off the screen and I wonder why nothing happened :).

LD50 — Delay the inevitable

Shotgun King: the Final Checkmate by benjamin 2022-04-09T18:32:43Z

Great mechanics, very fitting art and sound, a bit of backstory, and lots of polish make this one of my favourite Ludum Dare games so far. I haven't gotten as far as some other people have so there's clearly stuff left for me to learn.

My main criticism would be that it's only available on Windows, but it seems to work well in wine on Linux.

Terrasite by superjai 2022-04-19T19:26:07Z

This is a nicely polished game. The audio and graphics work well together. I didn't realise that the resources were finite at first so my strategy of filling all of the sites with factories at the start may have been ill advised. At least they kept their upgrade levels when I turned them into weapons (not sure if that's intentional though?) Screenshot from 2022-04-19 20-22-16.png

Fur Steam Ahead! by Kyrio 2022-04-09T15:31:08Z

I like the art style and the mechanic isn't something that I've seen before. It was a bit unclear what the best strategy was but I guess it would be boring if I knew exactly what to do.

My high score was 25.17km :)

You Will Fall by Yaen 2022-04-09T17:40:25Z

I think this is the game that I've replayed the most so far this jam. I found that I got better each time which is what you want for a game like this. The style of the game works well and each obstacle is different enough that they don't get boring. My highest score so far is 58m

Escaping Precedent by DecrementedPalindrome 2022-04-05T00:50:40Z

> give the player an animation

I wanted to do some inverse kinematics on the stick figure but there wasn't enough time in the jam sadly, perhaps in the future.

> you can simply run off the screen to the left and gain infinite points

Yeah I noticed that just before submitting, definitely something to fix when I next get a chance to work on it. Thanks for the feedback!

Escaping Precedent by DecrementedPalindrome 2022-04-09T11:43:06Z

> How did you do the collisions working on the trail renderer?

I used some code from an open source drawing tool called Lorien for the line drawing and collision. The open source community around Godot is great :) https://github.com/mbrlabs/Lorien/blob/player/lorien/BrushStroke/BrushStroke.gd

Pixel-Panic by IdeasPerSecond 2022-04-09T15:48:17Z

That was really fun! Simple, but well made. I always want to try to beat my previous score, online leaderboards would be great as others have suggested. It works well using a pen tablet as well which isn't true for most games.

My highscore was 42.7

LD51 — Every 10 seconds

Space Savier by ThiefViolinist 2022-10-13T22:52:02Z

I like the main mechanic of needing to figure out and remember where things are, I haven't seen a game that does that in this way before. Sometimes I got teleported into some spiders after firing which led to me losing, it would be nice if there was a guaranteed safe radius around the player after each teleportation.

Tiny Jukebox by bobo_oh 2022-10-06T22:41:43Z

A great length of game for a jam. Everything was well polished and the music was enjoyable, consistent in theme but varied enough to not get boring. Quite something!

Village Defender by UkuleleFury 2022-10-15T21:28:38Z

I liked the audio and especially the graphics, the transitions and UI were very well done. The game got quite laggy towards the end though as other people have mentioned and there seemed to be some features missing, I assume you originally intended for more buildings to be buildable for example. The game could definitely benefit from having more features as there's not much to the gameplay right now, but it's a very solid base to work on and the pathfinding is better than a lot of paid-for games that I've played.

Regular Railway by Istaera 2022-10-12T22:21:50Z

This is a really nice and well rounded game! I got to the narrow pass level before it felt like I couldn't build the track quick enough. The art style and music are consistent and work well together and the gameplay is fun and challenging, I had to have a couple of goes at the first level before I figured out some basic strategies that were enough to get me further. I also liked the personality in the instructions. The main things that I think could be improved (and they are minor) are that it wasn't immediately obvious that the tutorial didn't have a new train spawning every 10 seconds to I was trying to speedily read the text and build before I lost, and there is a small hitch when the music reaches the end and loops (I was playing v1.1). Other than that I can really fault it, so well done!

R-Corn by Yskuma 2022-10-12T21:18:24Z

The transition between the two types of gameplay was good, but the hitbox was larger than the sprite of the unicorn which got me a couple of times.

Elemental Shrine by Correia de Brito 2022-10-14T22:32:13Z

I liked the music and art and the gameplay worked. It would be nice to know how much health the enemies have which would solve some of the problem of not knowing if I've hit them as other people have pointed out. The game also seemed quite buggy, sometimes enemies would spawn on top of me and I would die instantly, other times I would win the round after only killing 1 enemy. The sniper rifle was my favourite weapon, I found it to be much more effective than the pistol.

In Season by Ha-kuro 2022-10-14T22:14:31Z

The art and the music set the feel of the game really well. The gameplay fits well with the theme, it feels like a natural part of the game. The tutorial at the start of the game is great at explaining everything, I never felt lost while playing, but the scores are difficult to compare because of how the money from the greenhouse isn't reset when the game starts for real. I found that if I moved and clicked at the right frequency I could skip the animations and get a lot more planted and harvested in less time, not sure if that's intended or not. Overall the game was fun and well polished, you did a great job! Screenshot (161).png

LD53 — Delivery

Merlin's Warehouse by MKnooihuisen 2023-05-17T01:48:02Z

I like the theme and models and the base of the game is there, but it felt difficult in a way that relies more on luck than skill. I don't know if there are more mechanics introduced after you reach 500₳ because the third day seemed impossible unless I got really lucky with the items in the orders. I wasn't able to complete it even after a few tries and memorising the item locations, though I was less than a second away on one run. It also wasn't immediately clear where to place the items at first, though it wasn't too hard to work out by trying a few different things.

Pollygone by Papaver 2023-05-17T02:57:07Z

I like this game! The graphics, music, and gameplay all fit together well, it manages to use the delivery theme without being about sorting or delivering parcels like so many other games, and most importantly it was fun! The new mechanics were introduced with the right pacing to not overwhelm or let the game get stale. A star rating system would be nice to allow people who don't want to spend the time to work out the optimal solution to proceed to the next levels, though I realise you can press the number keys to go to future levels.

The Infinite Delivery Machine by Steve Sparkes 2023-05-17T23:12:48Z

I like the clean graphical style of the game and I think the procedural level generation paid off, it's nice having an infinite amount of content and this game has perhaps the best main menu that I've seen in this jam! It would be nice if the parts were only allowed to be placed in valid positions inside the level, I kept clicking the parts instead of dragging them which caused them to get stuck behind the parts window with no way to get them back without resetting everything (or moving the screen as I've just realised while typing this...). I'd like to see what has changed between the original jam release and the most recent version.

Skate or Die by Don Fouts 2023-05-17T23:57:19Z

I like the art style and the in game tutorial at the start worked really well for introducing the game. These were my scores after my first complete run. I'm sure I could do better if I practised but as others have said the retry button often doesn't work which makes that difficult. I also managed to both win and lose at the same time on my first run. Other than those bugs the game was well polished though, I especially liked the camera animation to reveal the secret mechanic. SkateOrDieScreenshot.png

Carnage Courier by DecrementedPalindrome 2023-05-06T15:27:05Z

I was initially going to have a key to enter build mode instead of doing it automatically whenever you picked up a part, but that would mean that you can have the game paused for ages to rebuild in the middle of a fight which would make it less frantic. Maybe I can get the best of both worlds by having the game continue while in the build mode but in slow motion. Thanks for the feedback!

Carnage Courier by DecrementedPalindrome 2023-05-17T23:38:56Z

It's interesting to see that some people find it easy and others find it hard. I think that means I got the difficulty right for these first levels :). I'd have liked to have added more levels that ramp up the difficulty a lot at the end and require some upgrades, but there wasn't the time. There's definitely a tactic to make defeating the first large enemy easier (hit the batteries on the sides first then it struggles to charge up for each shot) but other than that it is mostly pick up all of the pieces and dodge the bullets at the moment. I'm pretty sure the stutters are due to the shaders on the parts that provide power (those two batteries on the side of the moving enemies are especially noticeable because they come in during the middle of the level). If I continue developing the game in the future I'll remove the desaturation effect that uses a shader from the individual parts and have a power bar at the bottom of the screen instead which should make the amount of energy you have left more apparent as well.

SatisfAction - The Ultimate Marble Machine by MarkAis 2023-05-14T16:45:42Z

This is a nice game. It's fun to play and the graphics are all nice and well themed. The sound effects provide a nice indication of what is happening off screen. My main complaint was that the point where the claw picks up a marble is underneath the Satisfaction meter on the screen because of the camera angle, but it looks like you've already fixed that in the post jam version!

Wasteland Water Warriors by sezdev 2023-05-14T22:22:52Z

I liked the graphical style of the game, the lines for the wind and the particle effects add a lot of atmosphere to the otherwise minimal environment which I think works well in a jam. As other people have pointed out it would be nice to have sound and the game didn't seem to get any more difficult as time went on. I think it would also be better to use a monospace font for the timer so that it doesn't shake as the digits change, or just remove the sub-second part.

Pier Boat Delivery by Vinicius Meireles 2023-05-17T22:57:23Z

The game mechanics all work well and come together to make a solid foundation that could easily be expanded upon with more levels. A couple of places for potential improvement that I haven't seen other people mention: It would be nice if the boat sped to the next level if the player loses early on so that there's no downtime and I didn't realise that I needed to pick up the package on the boat at first which left me wondering what to do once I reached the mailbox.

LD56 — Tiny Creatures

Badabees by tanis 2024-10-09T21:23:42Z

That was fun! I manages to get over 13 minutes on my second run (though with just a space for a name). I like the sound effects and the tweening on everything, very smooth. It's a simple concept with not much replayability, but the leaderboard improves that.

Fish Thingy by Steffo 2024-10-09T20:39:23Z

It was an enjoyable few minutes playing with this 🙂 There's not a lot to it but it's more complete than most game jam games. It has a consistent theme and everything fits together.

Farmer Friendly Ladybug by Tharinda Kodikara 2024-10-09T21:02:55Z

A nice simple concept. There's not much challenge with the spider's path being predictable, perhaps adding a timer would encourage the player to take more risks.
